I just want to mentioned that In Germany there was a huge study with the topic "mouth health" one Part of it was a test of Manual floss vs airfloss(with water) and airfloss with mouthwash. All Participants got an introduction how to use floss and air floss as well. After one month they compared the papilae bleeding index. Before the study the Patients had a papilae Bleeding index of 1,6. One Group used Manual Toothbrush+ Manual Floss. The PBI was 0,6. The final result of the study(2017) was Manual floss and airfloss are both equal effective. I personaly can't use Manual floss. I use the airfloss+mouthwash since 25 days now.. I do not bleed anymore when I'm brushing teeth. And yesterday I met a friend, which I did not see for 2 Weeks. She mentioned that my gums look very healthy.

Hi Tobias, yes oral hygeine advice has to be personalised to the individual to be effective, taking into account their lifestyle, manual dexterity etc. Some people cannot get the hang of manual flossing and most people use it in the wrong way! The airfloss makes it dummy proof way to clean in between the teeth, you can't really do it a wrong way!

@@YourSmileClinic Years ago, I really tried to floss but gave up since I coudn't get the hang of it either. The Air-flosser is a better alternative for me, since I'm just like Tobias as well. My local dentist told me I have to floss in conjunction with brushing with an electric toothbrush or my enamel fillings won't last.

    • @YourSmileClinic
      @YourSmileClinic  4 года назад +2

@@isabelledeprins9299 hi I'm not sure qualified to answer this! The pressure might be too strong for them, and I think it might be difficult to use it on them properly. Would probably be easier to brush their teeth with a toothbrush. I think dogs teeth aren't as close together as human teeth so brushing alone should suffice. Don't use toothpaste, just a dry toothbrush - the mechanical action will physically disrupt any plaque biofilm.

I have one and love it. Use is as an adjunct to regular manual flossing. I noticed it is tricky to work between teeth with no gaps but it works in most of my mouth. I love it to be done flossing with it in 30 seconds as a precursor to flossing manually or just to freshen up. Well worth it overall.

There is a specific purpose you didn't mention that these would be good for and that I am going to try one for - I have some jagged area between my 2 molars where I've had a filling - that had to be redone cos the horrible amalgam fell out. This has left a extremely awkward shaped tooth edges, which a Tepe cannot get through from the outside in and floss risks pulling out the replacement filling. I'm sure I'm not the only person in the UK with such an issue, so this will be great for that...I hope.

Which electric toothbrush did you use in the video to brush your teeth?
I own the original AirFloss since 2015. (a little over 2 years now). I haven''t had any problems with it at all!
However, I do think the newer model AirFloss Ultra is much better. It has a bigger reservoir, does 1, 2 or 3 bursts per press and the nozzle has been redesigned. So I''m considering to get the AirFloss Ultra eventually.
Regarding my experience with the AirFloss: It's great!
I use it in combination with the Philips Sonycare Diamond.
Going to the dentist once a year for a full check-up and during that appointment some light scraping on the teeth around the gums area is enough to remove any plaque built up during one year since the previous check-up.
My and my dentist's conclusion is that it really helps remove and prent plaque. Not 100% and definitely not as well as a floss wire, but still highly recommended!!
The clogging up issue either with water or mouth wash, it is not uncommon. Water can have a high hardness in some regions, leading to lime deposits inside the device. (if you have lime building up on your sink and tap, it will do the same inside the AirFloss). Using it with mouth wash it basically has the same effect, as mouthwash contains different ingredients which stick to the inner canals of the AirFloss and slowly turn into a light powder after the moisture has evaporated, over and over. After a while, it't not strange if the AirFloss clogs up and stops working.
I live in The Netherlands and the tapwater in my are is not very hard, so I haven''t had any issues with my AirFloss within the last 2 years.

Nice review and can you tell me if it's okay to mix your regular mouthwash with the water? I do it with mine and it is really refreshing and doubly hygienic.
The only problem with this type of air flosser is that the water runs out in a few seconds. I read in the instructions that the unit will turn off after 2 minutes but the water will never last more than 20 seconds if you're lucky.
Anyway thank you for a lovely review and a demonstration. When I first used mine the water squirted everywhere so best to keep your mouth shut. 🤐

I have one and am just about to swap the battery out as they last between 3-5 years. They can be repaired. You can add mouthwash. I use Corsodyl in the chamber and have not had any leaks or problems with the pump. I alternate by using the pump and then using Elugel in an around problem teeth as historically I had suffered from bacterial infection. For those of you who have bacterial infection leading to gingivitis, I would recommend a Reishi, Maitake, Shitake capsules. Once you have had a bacterial infection and bleeding gums, the bacteria gets into your bloodstream and infections are always a problem. One hint of sugar and your mouth comes alive and bleeding soon follows. The mushrooms attack the bacteria in the blood and your system and then you’ll find as I have, you can start enjoying sweet stuffs again without the pain and bleeding afterwards. This is from someone who has habitually had a sweet tooth and abused his gums over the years. I can now eat any sweet stuff and always eat an apple directly after, which helps neutralise the plaque acid. The pump is great, but dental hygiene is a careful balance of mind what you eat and take care not to have too many sugar hits in one day. I don’t use interdental brushes anymore as I can tackle most of the plaque with my Phillips Sonicare brush. The Sonicare is outstanding and hammers away at the plaque like no other brush I have found. Just make sure to rinse the head, dry it with a towel and put the cap back on. The cap helps keep the bristles aligned and you’ll then find you can get upwards if six months from one head, provided you don’t put too much pressure on the head when cleaning and let the hammer action do it’s work. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Could you perhaps make a video about mouthwash, and whether it is necessary? I have read a few articles on the fact that the mouthwash doesn't actually stay in contact with teeth long enough to be effective at all? (since you spit it out after 20 seconds).

6:09 - The Airfloss "IS" better than nothing.
    You forgot the "is".
With such a distinctive English accent I am surprised at the typo.
The AIrfloss seems to be so slow in its bursts ... and with something like 30 spaces between teeth it seems like it could take a long time to cover all of one's teeth? Some of the advertisements on the flossers / waterpicks seem to claim they are better than flossing. Any comment on that?
    Thanks for the review.

Can you post a peer reviewed study that shows that Dental Floss string does what you say it does? I can not find any, dental floss has been around in one form or another for almost 200 years and I can't find a study that show it does anything except remove food from in between teeth, just like a toothpick. On the other hand I can easily find peer reviewed studies that show the Water Pik does what it says it does. The AHA has removed it from best practices in America.

Panasonic water flosser seems to be better than that air floss. Although you need to be careful you don't overdo it. Gengigel is very good for repairing your gums too

A HydroFloss video. It is said to have added benefits due to a patented method of magnetizing the flowing water.

This will sound creepy.... but I could listen to Dr. Ly all day! I love her accent and voice. If only I could find a dentist like her near me, I might have more teeth (joke). Seriously, thank you Dr. Ly for a very informative video. Now I understand what the Airflosser is and how it works.

I’ve been using floss forks like Plackers™️ or silky type floss forks. Cheap ones cut my gums.

Thank you for the video, it is very informative. Do you think this is better than the water pik; a single stream of water type of system? Thank you ....and you are lovely by the way....:-)

Distractingly gorgeous, whatever. I have a few questions.
How long is this process supposed to take?
If you brush twice a day, do you do this each time? Just daily? Weekly? Monthly? It seems impractical to brush, airfloss, and floss each time.
I noticed you used it only on the outside of your teeth.. When I brush, I brush the horizontal surface of my teeth and both interior and exterior vertical surfaces. Any reason not to do a full round from the interior pointing out?
How's this compare to the Waterfloss?
    Thanks for the good demo.

Another question: are there any age restrictions for Airfloss? From what age children can use it?

Does it matter, wether you floss before or after? I have begun using this and flosses first, but I see you do it after brushing. Does it matter?
