- Learn about common problems on the 2007-2013 Chevy Silverado / GMC Sierra. This is a complete buyer's guide on the GMT900 trucks, introduced for the 2007 model year.
These trucks were equipped with a new frame, wider track, Gen IV small block LS based engines with AFM, and brand new exterior and interior designs. There were two dashboards offered, the pure truck version and the luxury inspired dashboard found on the Silverado LTZ, Sierra SLT and Sierra Denali.
These Trucks represented a milestone for GM, as they were made to exacting standards that saw exterior and interior panel gaps greatly shrink. Additionally, GM offered buyers many different configurations, from a fully loaded luxury truck to basic "Work Truck" package pickup.
There were three beds available - short at 5' 8", standard at 6' 6" and long at 8'. There were three cabin configurations - regular cab, extended cab with 4 doors and rear 170 degree opening doors, and a crew cab with four full-size forward opening doors.
The entry level engine was the 4.3L Vortec 4300 series V6 engine. The Gen IV small blocks included the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, and 6.2L engines. Note that most 5.3L, 6.0L and 6.2L engines had AFM. AFM was GM's active fuel management system, that would shut down 4 cylinders when the engine was under light load. This system caused oil consumption issues, tapping noises and sometimes even full engine failure.
The were no manual transmissions offered on the 1500 Series trucks, with a 4 speed 4L60-E available in 2007-2008. Starting in 2009 it was replaced by the 6L80 automatic 6 speed transmission. There were 2WD and 4WD variants offered.

i guess I'm pretty randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to watch new tv shows online ?
I just got a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 with 26k miles. Its like brand new it was kept in a garage and its crazy how nice it is inside and out. No signs of rust or anything. Engine seems great as well.
Nice I got a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 and almost hitting 300k miles all original.
make sure to change all the fluids. the fluids have a mile life but they also have a shelf live
what engine does it have? I'm assuming a Vortec 5300? As that's the most popular and common engine in the them
Im looking at a 07 gmc slt 2wd now. Only 84k miles!! 19k
My 2011 Sierra has 247k miles. Bought it new with the 5.3 engine and 3:42 rear end. No AFM delete ever. Live in the south (no snow). No issues. Haven’t even changed the alternator yet. Just maintain them-they’re great trucks.
I am looking at a 2010 Sierra with 5.3 and concerned about the AFM. It has 209,000 miles on it, no lifter tick. Could the lifters still fail due to the AFM, or would they have already by now?
@@ministrydrummerno lifter tick is a good sign. It still COULD fail, but sounds like the previous owner did regular oil changes. Get a range tech AFM disabler to go along with it.
I have a 2013 GMC sierra 1500, 208k miles. All original, with afm still active, with zero issues and no oil consumption. 💯 💯
08 Sierra. 210k no problems, except for dent in fender
You must drive somewhere warm
Without snow and salt . If you drive somewhere where salt on the roads these trucks have a factory flaw on the back wheel wells were they rust all up and start bubbling your paint . It was a factory flaw and GM doesn’t want to step up to the plate and fix
Question, I bought a 2013 Sierra. I really like the truck but seems like the transmission does better if I leave it in manual mode especially helps it from shifting into 6th back to 5th constantly.
My question is will it cause damage to leave it manual full time and just keep it at 5th until I possibly get on the interstate then I’d just up it to 6th
@@trc9459I drive in M5 around town most of the time. No issues. But a range tech AFM delete would help.
Every single mechanic I’ve ever heard speak on these say afm is a huge problem , very common and destroys engines or cost 4K to address
I purchased a 2009 Silverado yesterday. My first Chevy in 20 years. I hadn't actually planned on buying a truck, much less a Chevy, lol. This truck was one of the cleanest used vehicles I've ever seen. It looks brand new inside, outside and underneath. Drives out like a new one too. 100,000 miles on a 4.3-6. I just could not pass it up. Praying I have as good an experience with this truck as I've had with my '97 F-150.
Chevy engines hold up well if you take care of them. But that's most engines these days.
Basic maintenance is all you'll probably need with that configuration. Maybe fluid film or woolwax the undercarriage if you're around road salt or salt water.
I would delet that afm it's a big job but worth it
@@DustinKeating-yk3vqafm ain’t on the v6 lol
I bought a 2007 Silverado yesterday with the 4.8, 4X4 and 134,000 miles. The improved ride, steering, noise and over all comfort compared to my 83 pickup, 88 4X4 Blazer and 90 4X4 Suburban is amazing.
The 2011 to 2013s are the best bulletproof years, all the updates where done by then. Just change your oil every 5k and plug in a Range Technology dongle to keep it in V8 mode. Boom done, it will last forever. :)
I have a 2013 GMC Sierra Denali. They are bulletproof your right. Got my AFM Range plug in and I can tell you no more transmission clunks when trying to do that V4 bs. No loss of power might lower your gas mileage a tad but come on we don’t buy trucks for gas mileage. Plus anyone knowing get a AFM plug in from Range. It will save the lifters
Dylan Bruno Exactly, the damage occurs when it changes in and out of V4 mode, especially if your oil is dirty.
Glad to hear that just bought a 11 with 124k on it
So u recommend to keep it in V8 mode? Or do the add-ons for upgrade?
Lawr3nc3 Mann I’d keep it in V8 mode. Changing the internals along with the needed tune will cause it to fail a smog test. The Range Technology can be unplugged before smog inspection.
I have a 2012 Silverado 1500 4WD Crew Cab LT Z71 that I purchased used in 2019 with 52,000 miles on it. It's been a great truck, and I have had the oil and transmission cooler lines replaced under extended warranty. I've also disabled the AFM and firmed the 6L80 transmission shifts with a Hypertech tuner.
How much did replacing the lines run you? Also who did you take it to for the AFM delete
I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 (gmt900) w/ 4.8L, no AFM. Bought it fall 2019 with 304000 km on it for $2500 CAD, now has 315000 km and going strong! Love this truck despite the rust starting to come through.
How do you know If your truck has AFM or not? I just bought an 07 Silverado with the 4.3 V6
@@manasseh7 only the 5.3's had it. The 4.3, 4.8, and 6.2 did not
@@manasseh7 that was probably the best engine of all. Less power but smooth and legendary longevity.
@@narwhal7642 yes sir still kicking only at 165k miles
I just got one of these last month, 08 4.8 it needed an alt and new battery to run. It’s only got 176k miles! I was initially bummed about the 4.8 instead of 5.3 but the more I read the more I’m glad it’s got it
Bought a new 2008 Sierra 1500 SLT crew cab w/5.3/4L60. Good truck. Yeah, the dash cracked and all four door lock actuators were replaced under warranty. Towed cars with it with the only issue being the original front brakes were weak. Aftermarket pads and rotors helped. I disabled the AFM and fuel mileage actually improved. No oil consumption issues. Got t-boned and the truck was totaled. Bought a 2013 Denali 1500 crew cab w/6.2/6L80 in 2019. My favorite body style. Love this truck. Will put an aftermarket torque converter in it to avoid that weak link. Yeah the dash is cracked, but fixable and the front brakes are still undersized.
Last week i picked up a 13 with a 4.8 and 100k. No rust at all (in new england too) and im glad to see it seems i made a good choice. Needed something to start my plumbing business and it definitely seems i made the right choice
Love my 2008 GMC Canyon with 213000 miles starts every time I turn the key and runs and drives like a dream in excellent condition with cold AC, Hot heater still works I take of my vehicle doing maintenance on time and my dashboard isn’t cracked have it for 3 years and more to come best vehicle I own so far
Good to hear. I can't imagine GM being that bad in the last few years, but they really done it in the 2014-2017 models. I love the looks of those models, but now I see that they are nothing but problems.
I have a 2012 GMC from new it has never let me down regular maintenance is the key.
Incredibly informative! I can't imagine anything you didn't covery. Thank you for putting this together.
Bought one new in 2007 I highly recommend these vehicles especially if you take care of your vehicles and keep up to date with preventive maintenance you know just generally take care of your crap it will be the best ride you've ever owned.
Thats why I picked up a 2013 with the 4.8l and a manual 4x4 shifter, and the 4 speed trans, 77k miles, just breaking in. Last year it was offered with those options. I don't have to worry about any of those major issues the 5.3 and 6.0 have. I also use fluid film heavily in all the areas where rust is an issue as a result the truck has no rust. The few other small issues mentioned are easy enough to deal with if they arise. My truck also has the basic work truck trim, so none of the buttons are worn out either. Last year of the 2nd generation which shares almost the same platform as the first generation as well as the same drivetrain. So its the more modern version with the more reliable 1st gen. With that, on that specific model, I give it a 9.5 out of 10. If you have the 5.3 or 6.0 disable it and you should be okay. Great trucks otherwise.
2010 4.8 crew cab she runs so nice I do have to step on it when we are getting on the freeway but atleast ik it's all v8 power
@@JayJay94_214 The long box gets up and goes. They sell a tool that allows you to shut off the speed cut off and change the pickup timing along with other handy features.
@@Mr_Tecumseh mine is automatic transmission
@@JayJay94_214 They all are. They haven't had a manual in nearly 20 years.
I have a 2008 Silverado Bought new with a 5.3, now has 255309 , one oil leak problem was passenger side valve cover vent tube was clogged once cleared no more leaks ,when it is time will be buying a new engine, body is rust free, interior is in great shape, no dash crack ,has a cover since day one to protect from sun UV in the Sunshine State
If you take care of them and change synthetic oil regularly they run great! I have a 2011 5.3l ext cab 107k miles. Just replaced the rear brakes and have never serviced the front brakes. Outside of oil pressure sensor it’s good. I have never drained or flushed the transmission, my mechanic looked at it and said it looked close to stock and still shifted very smooth. Mechanic recommended a coolant flush soon, heater hose replace, and oil coolant lines (preventative maintenance). I do have to say the dash cracked at probably 90k but you don’t really notice it. The buttons on climate control have gotten rubbed off. Other than that it’s a great truck!
Also at 35k I did replace the intake with a volant CAI. True dual exhaust after the cats with magnaflow and x pipe flow throughs. Replaced the spark plugs and wires at 90k.
I didn’t change brakes on mine until 180k lol. And they still had life left!
Great video!
I owned a 2011 Sierra 5.3. Great looking truck, but the one thing that had me worried most of the time, was the very low oil pressure.
I learned later that GM really screwed up with those engines.
I'm glad you mentioned it well.
i own a 2011 sierra currently with almost 200k on it everything original. just changed the oil and oil pressure is fine until the truck gets hot and then it drops to around 25-30lbs or pressure when idling hot. any idea what could be my issue?
have a 2012 1500 4wd ext. cab wt and this thing never let me down, no rust and only 89000 miles, has the 4.8 with no afm, so will see how it goes, love my CHEVY
I’m looking into a 2009 Silverado 1500 single cab work truck rn with a v6 and after watching this I’m very tempted ngl
I have a 2008 GMC Sierra that I just purchased what's 80000 Mi on it truck was well taken care of it looks brand new love my GMC pickup
I have a 07 Silverado and it’s in great shape. The only thing wrong with it is the clear coat is chipping on the hood. Interior is perfect.
I'm having my 07 painted because the clear coat has been coming off for last 2 yrs. I have 2 cracks in dash.doing the whole thing with line-x.
@@robleekay6271 I would like to repaint my truck to original color but it already has 176k miles that I don’t think it’s worth to spend 3 grand on it lol. My dash is perfect I’ve had one of those carpet dash covers on it for two years
My 2007 Sierra is still running strong. One issue that you seemed to overlook is the lousy attachment of the side rear view mirrors. Mine became loose many years ago. Many automatic car washes refuse to allow these trucks in because they have broken off so many. Even the auto train from DC to Fl won’t allow these trucks on because the mirrors have to be folded in which is tricky to do without completely breaking them off the truck
Wow. Interesting
This is a great video! just bought a base model 2008 silverado with 4.8 so no afm. I love it so far.
How has it treated you so far?
@@kevinm3273 I had it for a year and flipped it for double. Truck was awesome! Had it lifted with 33s so fuel sucked and not a lot of power. Work for a dealership so ended up in a new silverado.
Have a 2008 sierra 1500 had the doors taken off a few years back and sandblasted to stop the rust and it’s like a brand new truck with 275 000 Kmart and 0 real engine issues. This is a special truck to me obviously and I have many more years I am sure!

My 2011 GMC Sierra went 169,000 miles NO trans problems
Lost truck in a crash
2012 with the 6 speed. 281k miles and no issues with trans
AFM makes for erratic oil consumption, but it does get 20 MPG fully loaded. Converter has been acting up for 30,000+ miles but hasn't gotten any worse. For 261,000 miles it doesn't seem that problematic.
Picked up one last October. LS crew cab with the 4.8 with 237k miles on it, no idea if motor or trans are original but there was an extensive carfax history so I think they may be since it wasn't noted on there. Put just over 11k miles on it now and only done plugs, wires, and threw some Bilsteins on it and for some reason it loves 91+ octane gas more than regular.
I have a 09 gmc sierra and it has been a great truck up until recently. Its has 208k on it and now I believe it has a lifter out
Has it gave you any problems in the last year?
Gr8t job dude ! very thorough, you mentioned the F’ed up AFM problem and the better performance of the rack and pinion steering. Me: 09 gmc, 4.8 NO AFM $ 4 speed trans , shifts perfectly, no excessive oil consumption…. Good truck. Do research before buying !!

Had a 2012 i bought at 80k miles and put another 100k on it as my dd over 5 years. Only light i ever got on the dash was a MAF. Never had the infamous lifter faliure these trucks are known for but the torque converter ended up comming apart and tore up the transmission. To be fair i beat on that thing like it owed me money.
Wonderful presentation on this great vehicle ! It seems that its merits and good are much more than its bads !! let alone the very nice classic design ..
I just bought a 07 Silverado lt but i knew nothing about afm but come to find out the previous owner had did the delet job on it with the spring lifters taken out flat valley plate new cam shaft so i got extremely lucky and dodged a bullet
Bro these trucks are masterpieces
Great video. Only problem I didn't see it 5 years ago when I bought a GM product.
2008 gmc sierra is a great truck if you know how to fix your problems fast before they cause any problems but all in all its a nice truck to have
I have an “07.5” ( came out half way through the year 07-13) NBS Silverado 1500 4.8 z71 . I bought it used with 100k. Paint and body were in great shape, brakes were shot all around, Has Rear Drums which I dont really mind but some people do. Immediately replaced spark plugs looking to fix a rough idle and poor performance (which it did). Only thing I would change is the TERRIBLE 4l60e . Had to rebuild at 119k (bought it at 106k). If you have the means to put a 4l80e in that’d be the way to go! Besides that I had leveled, nitto grappler on 18” wheel, TB ported, Installed S&B CAI, Corsa performance 3” exhaust and “blacked out” mostly all of the truck(still working on some of that). I recommend the truck for sure, If you have AFM, you can get it tuned out as long as the damage is not already done. For the little 4.8 with a street tune it moves and is very responsive. If your on the fence about buying a Silverado I say go for it, Just Be careful with those 4L60e or plan to get a solid stage 1 rebuild right away. Take care of it and it will take care of you. See my truck @tacticalchef on instagram.
I've rebuilt or replaced on my 2010 Silverado Extended Cab Texas LT.
-rear drums brakes
-front brakes
-rebuilt transmission
-starter
-has cracked dash
-motor mounts
-broken inside and outside door handles
-remote start stopped working
- just rebuilt the rear end with upgraded Locker differential
-Evap valve is open causing check engine light
-It bucks when putting in Drive or hard acceleration or quick slow down.
-bad gas mileage
- Tire pressure sensors all been replaced
- bad weather stripping
- faded black seats
-Only thing it does is look good
Own 5 gms in the last 5 years . 3 GMT800s 03, 04, 06 and a one 2007 and this 2010 . This is the only one with problems, and I take care of it Probably going with a Ford with a 5.0 Coyote next.

use Fluid Film undercoating on your truck..best out there I used it on my own Silverado, follow up every year with touch ups
Just bought a 2010 crew cab that was a trade in from an old man with 20,289 miles on it
What did you pay?
Interior is nicer quality on gmt800, I like the couch like seats in them. But has more wind noise due to door design. Il still take a gmt800 over the 900
I have a 2008 slt model with a 5.3. The dash is cracked. But runs strong with 202500 mile.
I’m buying a 08 Sierra tomorrow with 198k what issues have you had?
With 207800 today it still runs strong. I haven’t had to replace a thing beside the drums on the back brakes. But that’s normal for the miles.
@@ryanstang6340 how much did you buy it for ?
Nice, no tranny issues? How about the AFM, did you disable? Heard the 4 speed is a little weak. But usually will do +200k if not abused and the fluid is changed a time or two.
I shoot the underneath with used oil every fall,no rust issues so far, Gm has had a issue with the dashboards cracking since the early 70s

Zero rust in northeast, but have seen on other Silverados
Im sure the one at my work is a 2008. I wish we had a better mechanic because he only fixes the problem on why it won't run and not the other problems. Pretty much all the lights are lit up on the dash 😂 it has a loud clicking that sounds like it's in the front driver side wheel area. It misfires like crazy and when you floor it, I'm pretty sure i saw a snail pass me leaving me in the dust 😂. Emergency brake doesn't work either. Its also throwing code for knock sensor and the IAC valve or throttle body position sensor. Im sure the voltage regulator or alternator is bad because you can watch the volt gauge from all day go from between 14 to like 12.5 volts. The headlights you can see slightly pulsating when you pull up to a building. If the hazards are on, the inside lights fade really heavy when the hazards light up. Theres been times I've floored it to get up to speed when pulling out onto a highway, it'll tach at almost 6k RPM before finally shifting. I told my coworker that I'm waiting for one of these days for a head to lift, valve get bent or for a piston to shoot out the sidewall.
The interior door handles are a problem. They have a kit now ( ADS7183 R or L) that comes with everything needed to replace. Also- both my 5.3 engines had oil pressure sending unit problems---so once replaced the gauge doesn't bounce. Last my Silverado is the 6 speed---for some reason the linkage cable has went south twice---easy fix.
Had the shifter cable problem on a 98 silverado. If you park on a hill set the parking brake before putting it in park. Saves all the weight of the vehicle on the cable when you put it in drive.
Just replaced my dash stickers last week.
Hi this is Mike I have a question I have a 4.8 Vortec motor and a 4-speed Transmission in my 2013 GMC Sierra two-by-four is this a good truck is it a good motor does it a good transmission please let me know I've only got 46,000 miles on my girl
Sounds like a great truck with low miles! Enjoy it!
Gm is literally getting sued as we speak for the previous 2 gens of this truck. The oil consuption issue is not only a problem on this truck but many other gm models of that era. There is also a "chevy shake" problem on the 14 and later models because of a garbage aluminum drive shaft. I love when people tell me they only buy chevys because there reliable. My sister thought that too, right up until she had to replace a blown engine in her 09 silverado with less than 60k on the odometer. Every manufacturer has a golden turd so im not hating gm specifically, but brand loyalty if for suckers.
Do you know how the engine blew?
Afm sucks on 5.3 have to bypass it asap gm sucks for this on 5.3 if gm stuck with wht works and quit mess the motors and transmission if it works leave it alone toyota does something write do not mess with it

GM ruined the great LS engine by putting that stupid AFM on them. I bought a 2011 crew cab Silverado 2-wheel drive LT brand new so. It only has sixty-six thousand miles on it now 10 years later my dashboard is cracked horribly. I've gone through three sets of door switches. And I currently keep a range device plugged in so it stays in V8 mode now the rear end is starting to get noisy and I'd have to swap out for a locker. But it's still cheaper than buying a new Silverado. My daily driver is a 2006 V6 regular cab short bed Silverado there's only a hundred 26000 miles on it. I only use the crew cab if I need to pull a trailer
How do you know if you have an AFM engine?
Look under the intake manifold there will be the valley cover. If the surface of the cover is flat no afm.If the cover looks like it has veins then you have afm.Keep clean oil in your engine and it will run good plenty of miles afm or not.
A GM with no rust is like seeing water that's not wet.
Facts
I swore off anything from GM decades ago. Had better luck with Dodge trucks, before President Teleprompter Head gave Chrysler to Fiat, Peugeot, and Citroen. My 2018 F-150 is not perfect, but it does what Ford says it will do and does get good MPG (23-24 city and 25-27 on the highway). Plus, no rust worries.
Just put a AFM deactivated range under the dash problem solved
Not necessarily. Full disable is the only way to fully get rid of it. That shit costs 200 and has to be plugged in all the time. you can just put it in m5 and it won't activate and you can save for a delete kit. If they are useing oil before the range they will probably still use it after.
Hope this is ok. I have a 2009 chevy silverado what can I get for it. Will send pics to interested buyers.
I have a 2011 sierra, the afm is useless and offers no fuel efficiency gains, and it also burns oil. Love the 6 speed transmission, and the seats are very comfortable, but interior is cheaply made.
The f150 it replaced was a better overall truck.
I just got a custom 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 with only 36,000 Mi on it
I. Love. My. 2010 Chevy. Silverado Crew Cab 2500. HD. 4*4.
Good information on the AFM, if I purchased a vehicle with the 5.3l, that would be the first thing I would address, or I would just buy the 4.8l which doesn't have it.
Although they are hard to find with the 6.2, mine did not have the afm
What is afm
@@waltgullett1889 "AFM" Is Active Fuel Management, it shuts down 4 of the 8 cylinders to conserve on fuel (at a price).
I watched another person who reviewed this truck claiming the 2010 and newer they supposedly fixed the AFM issue. Can you confirm? Also, I was not aware frame rust was such a big issue on these. I wonder if this was mostly first and second year models or this was common for all of the models from 07-13.
That is correct GM added baffles to the oil galley to prevent the oil burning situation in 2010
Cab I drive my 09 hybrid and bypass the hybrid battery???
I love my truck. It is a 2010 1500 2wd extended cab and it has the 6.2. It is a lt model with leather and a full console. I’ve put a little over 40k miles on it since I got it 2 years ago and haven’t had any major problems yet. If anyone reading this could possibly give me info on how rare mine may be I would love to know because I have never seen another one that was 2wd with the 6.2. Ps it has the max trailering package with the 6 speed transmission and factory trailer break
Who tf gets a 2wd truck??
@@Gigachadly would’ve got 4x4 if there was one. Back when I got it they had a z71 sierra same body style but it was a 5.3 with cloth interior, I chose the 2wd mainly because of the 6.2 and the leather interior, nobody realistically uses 4x4 constantly unless it’s a work truck
@@6.2_vortec well Idk where you live or nothing but I live in alberta Canada and we get so much snow here that you could end up stuck in your own driveway without 4x4. Lots of city commuters leave there truck in 4x4 over winter. It's just nice to have that ability to use all 4 if you need them, plus I guaranteed you paid alot for that truck so it just surprised me when you said 2wd that's all. It's still a sick truck don't get me wrong.
@@Gigachadly I live in west Tennessee we don’t get much snow, I could see how it’s definitely needed that far north for snow. And I was lucky enough to get it before prices went crazy. I gave 13k and it had 130k miles on it
@@6.2_vortec fair enough man I'm sure it's more then enough for whatcha need, I checked out your channel too and I really like your hummer I've been debating getting a H2 for around my farm for along time but don't know if I could afford the gas lol
As owner for 2012 Silverado, this guy is absolutely corret. Also remember remember that it is very important to have Synthetic Oil Change very often and check it every other week. I also installed oil catch can, That AFM must go though and it will cost about 3500$ with parts and labor.
They make a device that plugs right into your OBD2 port that disables that feature for $200
a catch can is only beneficial for GDI engines. this generation is port injected since they were still vortec. the next generation when they changed to ecotec is where a catch can may be beneficial
Can you make a new video of the newest models.
I have a 2007 (not Classic) Sierra SLE
This truck was apparently designed by jokers.
Some annoying things for me:
- Control buttons painted black but cast in green plastic. WTF? Why not cast in black plastic?
- Seat back pivots only about 3". WTF? How is anyone supposed to reach behind the seat? You need to slide the seat forward to get access.
- Jack/spare tire tool package located in the middle behind the center console. WTF? Unless you are skinny, you will have a hard time removing and (especially) re-stowing the tool set.
- Pressing the air recirculate button automatically turns on the AC (even in winter with the heater active). WTF? There is already a button in the center of the fan speed control to control the AC. Also, I live in Florida, so I always run it on recirculate because (1) it is humid as hell here and I don't want to get blasted by 100% humid hot air and (2) I don't like sucking in exhaust fumes from other vehicles.
- Accessing the spare tire requires assembling and inserting a crank tool to lower the wheel by cable. This means no struggling to remove and lift the wheel manually. It also means if you have a camper in the bed that you will need to jack up and remove the camper (by driving the truck 15 feet with a flat tire) to access the hole for the wheel hoist.
- No covers for the cigarette lighter/power jacks. WTF? Dust and debris, not to mention fingers, can easily enter the holes -- I bought a pair from China for $4.
Also, the clear coat has significantly de-laminated, especially in the tail gate.
The best way to fix cracked dash plastic requires removing the entire plastic dash cover (not a quick or easy job). Join the top with tape and flip it over. Then use metal staples or wire mesh and melt it into the plastic. Why didn't GM do this when manufacturing this part? (Because they are cheap bastards?) The engineers had to have known when the stress points would be. It would probably add $50 to the part. Now the consumer, must pay $300 or more to have this done.
Every time I order parts, I must confirm that the parts are not for the 2007 Classic model. So now when I search for parts, I search for 2008 model parts to avoid the confusion.
This truck makes me miss my 1989 Ford F150 -- even though it was a clunker.
How is rust still a problem after all these years?
GMC uses the lowest grade of recycled materials for their vehicles which is why they are so prone to rust and believe it or not, they are aware of the low quality of many of their components which have plaqued their vehicles for years. They operate on the buyer's loyalty and belief that no matter how bad the GMC gets, the others must be worse, philosophy. Until their loyal followers start leaving their ranks due to poor quality issues, they will keep making them the same.
I want a seria 3500hd 2008
My 2011 sierra has 125,000 on it. No problems
2010 sierra mint interior 👌 no Afm smooth
I have a 2013 Z71 SLE extended with AFM and It kinda annoys me when I accelerate.
I am trying to find a Sierra/Silverado Crew Cab with a 6.5' bed. Why are they so hard to find?? Now, with all the problems GM is having with their trucks, especially transmissions and engines, I am now searching for much earlier models, 1990 to 2005. But finding the truck with that configuration is even harder to find in those models. Why a 6.5 bed? Have you seen people trying to move a large couch on a 5' bed? Looks ridiculous! Even worse on those Cadillac trucks with even shorter beds! Why bother? I need the bed to haul real stuff, like lumber! Why crew cab? Because sometimes my wife drives and my daughter wants to sit in the front. So I don't mind crawling into the back seat and getting some shut eye. I am 6.2 and room is premium. Right sized trucks makes a huge difference in long distance driving.
AFM is not going to cause gumming up around the rings. That's improper maintenance.
2013 50000 miles . In the shop for a misfire.
My 2009 GMC 2500HD does not have AFM Engine
