The only way I survived this fight was climbing onto the vines jutting out of the walls. Most of Maleficent's attacks can't reach you there, and you can safely heal yourself or your partners.

Of course i had to face her in the end but i was flipping scared as heck! If i were in the game i would've NopeNope'd out of there.

They supposedly "fixed" the horrendous camera issues form the original ps2 version. But not enough to, as you put it, to be a formidable adversary its own
I like how you actually bother to keep your partners alive. I don't see that very often.
Chaos inc. lol I just let them faint until they revive again on their own. I usually heal myself only
in my head, even if they die quickly, as long as they can use one of their support abilities to give me back some mp or hp it's worth it. Plus in late game, donald usually has at least half of his mp before dying. If I'm gonna use one mp to revive one of the party members. I'll consider giving the cure to the one who has his mp bar ready to revive the other member and/or place aero on one of us. The second wind ability should work sooner in my opinion. The fights are at a fast enough pace to warrant a slightly faster revive timer for the ai partners.
I also try to revive them. At least they provide some physical distraction while I attack Maleficent.

Man, I really love Leaf Bracer. Honestly can't imagine a world without it, really. OG KH1 must have been a pain and a half without it.

@@BroerenGames Disney is a big part of the Kingdom Hearts series. Maleficent is arguably the greatest Disney villain especially when she turns into a Dragon. So fighting and defeating her twice and in her dragon form makes it iconic. After the Hollow Bastion Riku battle, this is one of the actual final bosses of the game, not Ansem. After playing every Kingdom Hearts Game, its still more iconic than any boss battle.

The fact that she STILL dismisses him as an inconsequential nuisance is really annoying but unfortunately very in character for Maleficent. She just can't comprehend the idea of someone actually beating her.
The unlocking of the heart of Maleficent- and her going from terrified, to concerned, to curious, to excited- is one of the scariest (and most interesting) things in video games, all time

This was such a bad ass fight. Replaying it reminded me of my mom (she died in 2016 after barely really living from a stroke in ‘07) she was really obsessed with dragons (she is German), and I just remember that anytime I see dragons. She also happened to have the stuffed huge malificent that was pretty bad ass. I miss my mom... 😔

Don’t forget Xemnas.
She was hard alright but compared to the secret heartless bosses, Sephiroth and Xemmas she's a piece of cake.
Did you know: if you bring beast and goofy into the fight, give them a ton of eithers, set beast’s ai to solely prioritize using mp items, do the same with goofy but also have him prioritize support abilities (make sure the only support ability equipped on goofy is mp gift though), then while making sure everyone is at full mp before entering the fight you spam stopra then two graviras (make sure to jump cancel your magic though) until you run out of mp, and finally assuming your mp is high enough Dragon Maleficent will go from full health to dead.
There really should be a drinking game every time someone says "Darkness" You take a shot
One could also take a shot everytime someone says "Light" with similar results.
..heck, why not make THAT a contest. See who gets hammered first.
@@MetroXLR99 Take a sip every time they say Darkness, Light, Friend, Heart or Key/Keblade, and you will have emptied a full bottle and may need to see the doctor next morning
And the word hearts.
The possibilty for Alcohol Poisoning would increase exponentially.
During the end game confrontation with Ansem you would die of alcohol poisoning.
And to think that stab into Maleficent would prove pivotal to the timeline.
Sometimes I wonder if this boss would be more thrilling if they added the same sound effects when Maleficent snaps her jaws like in the movie. That would be a nice touch for a callback.

My favorite line from a Disney villain.
I always summon Tinker Bell in this fight. Makes it somewhat easier. That and I also heal both Donald and Goofy if I have the MP to spare.
She wields all the powers of hell
There’s a way to beat her with 1 combo, you have the beast and Donald in your party and then go on top of the thorns, it takes about 20 minutes and you just heal them when you need to, beast gets her down to 1 hit and the rest is smooth sailing
I remember looking at this dragon for the first time thinking "Aww fuck man....FUUUU--" / sees the health bar / "FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU--!!!!!!!!"

This is the hardest boss battle in the game, other than the secret battle with Sephiroth at the Colosseum. So much so that almost 20 years later I remember the dialog word for word.
Nah, for me it was Giant Ursula, Maleficent was a breeze for me

The amount of times I saw this fucking cutscene as a kid............
So i just picked up this game to play before KH3, and this boss was giving me a lot of trouble. Idk if im under lvled (43 ) and i was using the keyblade from beating Neverland. But what i did to cheese this boss was put Beast into my party, took a few ethers and just climbed up onto the vines and hid back there and just let Beast kill the boss. All i did was heal him and used ether to restore my mp. Took a lil, but it worked! I had get the last hit though, it wasn't letting Beast do it.
thats how i made it 15 years ago on my ps2 :D hiding into the vines :D

Revisiting this after seeing the new kh union cross cutscene. That long pause mustve bern her thinking of time traveling and i believe once she is losing is when she travels hence why her cloak is the only thing left behind

You can heal yourself while stay in the midair. Not worry about the shockwave that a dragon stomp her feet.

It was eventually a battle of attrition where I was just waiting for Beast and Donald to get back up and then a few cheeky hits before using Fira

I remember being stuck on this fight for a long time lol back when I played them on the ps3
I played the entire game up to this point before realizing you could change keyblades.
First time kingdom Hearts player here. Was a tough battle but I used tinker bell summon, aero, stopga (two times) and whacked the crap out of her relentlessly in the beginning while dodging the fire and snaps. Won within a few minutes. Whew. And I only had to re-do it about 3 or 4 times to win it.
Now you must face me oh Sora, and all the powers of HELL!

summon tinker bell, cast aero, and equip the metal chaboco (i think thats what its called”, equip mp and hp potions but give them to donald, he’ll use them when u need them and maybe use a megalixir (although u dont have to) in case your group needs it, give the party charms that reduce dark and fire attacks and raise defense. just beat her in under a minute or two uwu
I'll never forget my first time playing this fight. I was on easy mode and she kept kicking my ass! It was a couple dozen tries and Tinker Bell healing me I was able to beat her.

Considering the more FF visual style of attacks the Disney villains had in the first game, I’m glad they nailed Maleficent’s transformation into the dragon with the green eruption and her outline rising just like in the film

I was 15 when I played this on PS2 I was like ohhhh shit when this happened badass boss.
Am I the only one who didnt struggle on this boss? I didnt even need to summon tinker bell and I was playing on the ps2 at around level 41 yet I find this boss epic but fair... all you need is gravity or gravira and goofy to use his mp gift and I got through this battle without summoning... at all... this fight is awesome and the camera I could deal with too!

I did the fight that came before this one,this fight, and the one that came afterwards all today in one try although I’m playing on normal mode on final mix but still and as an added bonus I didn’t check my items in between so i fought the fight after this with a regular potion as one of my items funny 😄 enough.

I actually got this my first try by summoning tinkerbell, I didn't even use Aero once. When your team dies just jump up on the vines until they're back up. Rinse and repeat.
This and the Riku fight after this. I have mental scars from being a kid😳😳

Summon Tinkerbell, climb on to her back - watch for fire and spin attack tells and you're golden.
And the Maleficent comes… in the NIGHT!
This Boss was a Massive Chokehold for me when I first played the game.
Here's what I did on the original ps2 version: first equip the party with nothing but ethers and climb into maleficents back, spam thunder and your team should hopefully use the ethers to recover your mp (or use the ones you have equipped yourself) rinse and repeat battl e=won
On the original PS2 version you had to watch this cutscene before you fought phase 2. Every. Damn. Time.
I think maleficent is the only one that had a darkness transformation that was canon to her story. The only one that i can remember anyway

@@joey8062 I mean, her boss theme could easily be a combination of Squirming Evil and The Deep End. Kinda like what Shimomura did with The Fight for My Friends and Struggle Away from CoM, creating an amazing boss theme based on them. Squirming Evil in particular should be retooled into a stronger composition, and tying it into a boss theme specifically for Maleficent, be she evil fairy or dragon, seems like the best place to do it.
Also she deserves her own cutscene theme too; she's not just any Disney Villain to have Villains of A Sort still after all this time. Maybe something based on her theme from the movie, which is from the Sleeping Beauty ballet, with elements of Villains of A Sort?
This is basically her theme, though. The only other story battle where this theme plays is Giant Ursula. Both are very hard bosses, so it fits well.
She turned into a dragon 🐉🐲 again.
This boss was so tough for me. like legiti had to use Tinkerbell to keep me alive. Kh1 was truly a difficult game near the end.
I had to fill everyone's inventory up with Mega Potions, so that everyone was constantly getting healed at all times.
