@@c0mpu73rguy I think it's moreso the story implications of this fight than the actual gameplay of it- the final boss of the second game just shows up out of nowhere to curb stomp you, and after a grueling battle, you don't even destroy him- he just shrugs it off and leaves you to stew on it.
So this is what Xemnas meant when he said to Roxas "I have been to see him. He looks a lot like you."
Xion was created from Roxas by Vexen, or thru Vexen's experiments. I can't remember that variation. Roxas and Xion naturally absorbed Sora's unchained memories. This is shown after Roxas beats Xion, and proceeds through his summer vacation. The memories just flow into him without any influence.
Xion was a strange case, since she absorbed memories and was seen by others based on what the memories meant to them. Roxas saw a variation of Kairi, Xigbar saw ventus, Siax just saw a puppet, ect. I don't think they were sampled directly, just naturally.

I think a really neat element to this boss fight is that Xemnas isn't really fighting all that different than how he does in Kingdom Hearts II. The reason he is so difficult here is because the combat design isn't as streamlined yet.
Kind of a way to imply that Sora in II is able to contend with Xemnas easier because he's had more time with the Keyblade.

Holy shit dude I thought I was the only one who recognized this. It was basically a fight Sora had no business winning. But when the rematch happened he had more experience and Riku to help. Really shows the progression.
Sora also rejoins with Roxas by the time he fights Xemnas again.
I like the idea that Xemnas acts like a true Nobody when he puts the hood on. He doesn’t talk or make a single sound. You only mentally hear a faint whisper coming from him.
the idea of a final boss (someone you’re expected to beat to win the game) being the superboss (someone that feels almost impossible to beat) of the previous game where you have to fight him as the same character but less experienced is so cool to me
The only thing enigmatic about this man is how his hood stays on during the battle

It’s fun to think about how Xemnas was the first organization member Sora ever met, as this meeting is canon. It’s also fun to think about how Xemnas is fought in this game, in Kh2, in DDD AND in kh3. Amazing.

If we're going off fights then Ansem also counts with Riku's fights. KH1, CoM, DDD and KH3. Terranort could count as an Ansem fight in his beginning stage in the final episode.

This fight... the secrecy behind it. This fight is why i love Easter eggs, hidden bosses or levels and hidden lore. The music and intense difficulty made me realize how much deeper a game could be. Thank you KH for being my first game. (Old ps2 Japanese version BTW)

And that kids is how Xion was made. Xemnas only fought kid Sora to get data.
It's also why he passed through Sora and all those lines flashed through. He took Sora's memories of Kairi by that so that they could make Xion.

The moment when most realized that Kingdom Hearts had something more deep beneath the surface with it's story than just the Disney Worlds themselves.
Love that my mans the Beast was here to fight against Xemnas with us. He’s the only Disney guest character to fight against two Organization members.
I like the fact that this fight is much, much harder than Sora’s second try toward the end of KH2; like they considered the fact that Sora in KH1 was not as strong as in 2 when the rematch happens.
I mean he’s like 186 levels stronger in kh2

@@3DSDF I always think it was more of an experience thing, Sora wasn't as powerful as he was in Kingdom hearts 2 but the experience he gained never went away, just the power that came with it. Here in Kingdom Hearts 1 sora is just starting out, where as in 3 he's been doing this for a long time and probably knows the routine by now.

Dee15gon To be fair, Sora and the gang are not as strong in this game as they are in KH2. Xemnas isn't really any stronger in the first game than he is in the second game.
I feel like it's also because we see him actually use some of Terra's abilities in this fight. The orbs of light and the lasers are just like his Lingering Will's attacks. And those are quite the annoying attacks with the KH1 Sora's abilities.

This is an optional boss (even though is canon), in KH2 (if you don't count the data fight) is a story boss. KH is known for having optional bosses stronger than story bosses.

You learn to love the expression a lot less when they use pictures of KH1 Sora for the Instagram loading screens.
I actually like that they added this. It shows where Xemnas got the information to give to Vexen in order to make Xion(which was something that was only referenced in 358/2 days). And the fact that Beat was displayed upon defeat, gives further reference for Xaldin to show up in KH2 in the Beauty and the Beast world.
I always wondered why Xaldin, whom has the second highest throne and arguably the strongest in the organization(not including Xemnas), was after the Beast. It's because Xemnas considered Beast highly worthy, because of this fight, so he appointed his strongest member to get him.

thats a lot of crap nomura made up postdays anyways. xion was meant to be an empty doll copying roxas powers. but she was never perfected,so she instead began to absorb roxas powers. because marluxia forced namine to scatter most of soras memorys in his act of betrayal(the original goal was to just alter his memorys a bit to make him a more effective tool for the org),xion absorbed those too with them going through roxas first because he technicly owns them in the first place(since he is soras nobody). the entire thing was just a chain of events that accidently created that outcome. later games tho treat it as the reason xion was created because of the master xehanort planned everything-retcon

The build up to this fight is some of the best stuff in KH.
When Xemnas touched Sora, you see various quotes involving Kairi swarm the page. This was the moment Xemnas took a piece of Sora’s memories of Kairi that would be used by Vexen to form Xion, who is a walking, talking personification of Sora’s memories of Kairi.
Pretty shameful that they added this moment in the Final Mix version, showing they do not plan for sequels. I just hope we don’t get a Kingdom Hearts III Final Mix ++ where we get yet another wild goosechase teaser.
I forget where I read it but wasn't the story for kh2 already all drawn out during KH1?
The final mix versions were made later on because the international releases got added content(Kurt zista, phantom, not sure if sephiroth was only international too but the others were) and they got a lot of flack in the Japanese market for that so they did final mix adding the international content and then adding this fight solely for Japan. At this point chain of memories. was either out or about to be but regradless it was well into production so I'm GUESSING they added this fight specifically just because they were like "well why don't we just show the first interaction"
Unfortunately Nomura said he wont be doing a Final Mix 3 for KH3 :( , but he did say he wants to do one BIG DLC.
So who knows what it will be or how long we will have to wait , Knowing Nomura the DLC will become too big and he will have to turn into a brand new game lol.
They always add them into the Final Mixes. And KH1 Final Mix came out years before Days. So yes, they still planned for sequels.

Honestly? I can only imagine how creepy and cool seeing this for the first time really was.
Here comes a mysterious figure. He emits ominous wind-like noises whenever he "talks". We see him phasing through Sora like a ghost. Goofy's reaction implies that he's somehow related to the main villain of this game. We don't get to see his face. Everything about him is remarkably different from everything we've seen up to this point from his appearance, his abilities, and his bone-chilling music.
Sure we're used to Xemnas by now and that cloak has become such a tired trope in this series that it feels less like a deliberate design element and more like a way for Nomura to save on ink for character designs.
But here? It's all novel.
Wears a hood, has dual red lightsabers, and uses force lightning? Is that you Darth Sidious???

Judging by your HP and MP gauges, as well as gaining Max HP and AP in your two level ups, you were either Level 63 or 69. However, Ultimate Weapon grants +2 MP (you have 9 MP), and unless you are using MP-increasing accessories, but at those levels you should've reached your max MP gain at Level 60, unless you chose the Rod, sitting you most likely at 57. Considering you kept Goofy and Donald alive at that level, and if this was in Proud Mode, this fight was goddamn fucking impressive.

I played Kh 1 and 2 before the Final mix. When you replay the game and especially this boss, everything said makes so much more sense. I just love how they recreated the story to fit in with the games that followed it.
Really looking forward to KH 2.8 and KH 3!

Actually, they reference this fight in KH2 and it's even shown in the opening (even on the original KH2, not the Final Mix version). Which makes this scene canon. This is why in KH2, Xemnas says Roxas "I've been to see him, you know. He looks a lot like you."

I love how he's just casually strolling around the battle field with lighting shooting from his finger tips with this awesome track playing.
I love the parallel to Ansem at the start of the game with the "You understand so little" and "One who knows nothing can understand nothing" lines and the "It is beyond your comprehension, for now." line. It's not the same thing being discussed, but it does show a pretty similar mentality between Ansem and Xemnas.
Never ran into Xemnas in KH1 so only remember fighting him in KH2. That said I like how the scenario comes off like a horror movie when he shows up.
And here we see Xemnas predicting Star Wars being bought by Disney years before it happened.

The Ansem line from goofy was taken from when he and Donald was talking to Aerith.

I think it's actually Vexen in Castle Oblivion who collected Sora's memories there to create Xion.

And her face was revealed after Vexen and the others set off to Castle Oblivion. Vexen created the puppet before leaving, and her face revealed to look like Kairi's afterwards cause Vexen stole Sora's memories afterwards. Xion didn't really have a "stable" face before.

Damn, Xemnas's move-set is wicked in this game. He fights like some sort of Sith Lord. Light sabers, lasers, force barriers and lightning all over the place. His KH2 move-set looks dull by comparison.

Xemnas ain’t dumb he knew about Ansem and ansem knew about xemnas they definitely had to have crossed paths at least once
Because they are separate versions of Xehanort. His Heart becoming his Heartless, who would command a massive army of Heartless, while manipulating the Disney villains to find 7 pure hearts. While his body becoming his Nobody, would gather 12 empty husks, while collecting a massive amount of hearts so they can exist completely.
Before they along 10 more would gather to form their original self. Leading to a climatic finale between 7 lights & 13 darknesses.

What i loved about this fight, it's how it gets contrast with the game scenario, the gothic feel of Hollow Bastion, and also Xemnas being like that mysterious man that, makes you think that probably a big event will happen in further games between him and Sora, and even the way that Sora sees him (and we know what happened in Kingdom Hearts 2), the way it's constructed it's so cool.
Wow...looking back on this fight after beating KH3 you realize just how much Xemnas was holding back.
Meanwhile kh2 donald saves everyone the trouble and just kills himself at the start of any boss
My working theory is that Goofy kills him for you because he's secretly a Heartless.

Imagine being 14-year old me, seeing this guy for the first time in a cutscene in KH2, and then spending hours exploring Hollow Bastion when I played KH1 only to later on realize he’s an exclusive boss to KH1 Final Mix. Which wouldn’t be released internationally until the 1.5 Remix.

yeah I imagined back when KH2 came out and people saw xemnas in the cutscene in the prologue thinking "wait when did this happen in KH1?"

@MattsFTR - What MATTers So pretty much what happens is, Sora deletes himself with the Keyblade to.save kairi,, this creates roxas. Xemnas finds Roxas during the time between Sora returning to Hollow Bastion the 2nd time.
Then he goes to find Sora after recruiting Roxas forn a while.
Roxas was org 13 already since you see the members leave for Castle Oblivion in KH 358/2 Days
The first kingdom Hearts was definitely the most challenging, I hope the third one brings back that level of difficulty. Highly doubt it though.

I recommend you to stop gaining exp to get a challenge. There is no secret boss like xenmas here too. Anyway it makes a lot fun! I enjoyed it so much.
No items and accesoire and no armor makes it diffucultier too

LuigiaTV kh 1 story was not really good, way to simple and too much focus on the disney villians.
Master Xehanort Its a disney/square enix mashup how is focusing on the disney villains too much a complaint? They all added to the plot as well instead of being filler/comic relief tat just show up because hey its their disney world(cough kh2 andd onward cough). Like idk why ppl would plan on playing a game with disney worlds without having disney characters being vital to the plot...Now we have a villain who gets defeated over and over again because it was all part of the 'plan'....and keeps making long drawn out speeches tat go over how they managed to live on no matter how stupid it sounds. Like at least disney villains have variety in their personality. Plus the majority of great stories are really simple but well executed.
Fun fact, all of Sora's dialogue here is just reused voice lines from the rest of the game.
"What's that supposed to mean" for example is before fighting Leon and "Who're you" I believe is before Leon also.
Dunno about the "Wait, what're you" but it's probably a mishmash of two different voice lines. Obviously since Final Mix came out several years later in the west, 'ol Haley Joel Osment couldn't replicate KH1 Sora anymore.
Even Goofy's line is reused from their conversation with Aerith, they really wanted to save those resources. Though, this was not dubbed over for 1.5, the lines were already placed there in the original PS2-release.(Yeah, that's actually a thing. The PS2-releases for 1FM and 2FM actually used the english voiceacting instead of the japanese one. No idea about the non-FM versions tho.)
All I can think about is the fighting style Darth Sidious used against Maul and Savage Opress in The Clone Wars series.

Possibly. But also possibly Ansem, Seeker of Darkness. At this point in the story, Sora is a heartless that has taken human form. Only one other heartless has been able to keep his human shape as a heartless. Ansem. And just the flow of dialogue suggests it too. "Ansem?" "That name is familiar. You remind me of him."
So yeah, he probably is referring to Roxas. But not necessarily.
I recall at least one other time when the conceptual similarity between them was mentioned. I don't remember where or when tho.
I actually beat this on my first try. And on critical. Max level, Ultima weapon for Sora. I just spammed Ars Arcanum since you won't stagger, With Donald healing me (no, seriously) and Goofy's MP Gift. Make sure you equip some Elixirs on them.
I had a harder time with Sephiroth since you're on your own.
This power of friendship thing sure helps in this game, huh?

DragonKing 57 Impossible though since haley's voice wouldn't be as high as it was and exactly the same from back 2002, I seriously doubt they used any software to edit his voice either. They must've just recorded the lines all those years ago I suppos I don't really know
All of Sora's lines come from the cutscene before he fights Leon. Goofy's "Ansem" line comes from the cutscene in Aerith's room.
