I figured it was the pressure balancing unit! Your video helped. Thanks a bunch. By the way, I’m not sure if you mentioned it in your video but one way to test the pressure is rotating the unit 180° and putting it back in, and if the pressure is reversed from hot to cold or vice versa, then it’s definitely the problem.
Nice job. Non existent BS is always appreciated. Ordered the parts, disassembled only to discover that the hot water side of the main supply was jammed up with some debris from??? Cleaned, reassembled using parts that were already in place and! Hot Showers!! Thanks!
Thanks for a great video. I installed the new valve parts (both of them) and the water is mixing properly now. Only now there is an ever so slight drip coming from the shower head where before with the old parts there was no drip at all. Any ideas?
I had a issue where the hot water pressure dropped. Replaced the Balancing Cartridge/Regulator twice. Flushed the pipes also, with no restriction. But... when everything is reassembled, the hot water still had no pressure. I also tried to fine tune the supply valves to the hot and cold. No change. It's very frustrating.
The Kohler shower valve in our bathroom is quite different and so far not covered here on youtube. It is a "shower only" type valve similar to Kohler part # K-8304-KS. There is no tub/bath faucet. It is only 5 years old and leaking through the shower head.
Yes it’s likely essentially the same cartridge with a different back side if you go to your local plumbing supply and ask for the newer Kohler cartridge they’ll hand you one, it’s the same concept for install and removal
The disassembly of the K-8304 valve is quite different. There are 2 check valves (part #1229168) on the left and right which obstruct the removal of the cartridge (part #GP800881). @@PlumbingExplained
A link to where to buy replacement parts would be helpful. Also, I'd get rid of the background music. It adds nothing to the technical discussion and makes it harder to hear what you're saying. Otherwise, fine video.
I rea did my master bathroom everything brand new in the shower gets hot but after seven minutes it gets cold immediately after I got out and went into the hallway bathroom put it on and it was hot and stayed hot for 30 minutes and when I shut it off it was still hot a plumber said I was just running out of hot water but if that’s the case I would run out of hot water everywhere I don’t know what the problem is just spent $20,000 in the bathroom
I can’t seem to get the white retainer off of the valve stem. It looks similar to the one in the video but the space to squeeze over the stem is almost nonexistent. Any idea how to get this white retainer off?
@@PlumbingExplained i had a tankless and have switched to a tank heater and am going to install kholers new part now. Kholer has a new mixer cartridge part now to retrofit the old ones that always fail.
The back portion is the temperature balance half, pull the cartridge flush the valve by turning the water on to the house and then reinstall the cartridge see if that helps, if it doesn’t then you either got a defective cartridge or debris got pushed into the temperature balance portion of the cartridge and you’ll need a new one.
Thank you. What i noticed is that there’s no knob to adjust the temperature. Only the handle itself. The costumer told me that since the beginning they had this issue. I couldn’t tell if the rough valve was upside down. Hopefully not
Three years later and this is super helpful thank you
Thank you so hard to find a plumber these days. Hope I get this right.
Very helpful video with great graphics! And excellent commentary explaining plumbing issues. Thank you!

This video was very helpful. Thanks for posting it

Glad I was able to help! Thanks for dropping a comment! Really appreciate it!
Any explanation that includes the term sketchy is good in my book
Thanks Chris. Video came through in the clutch!
question my kohler shower valve water pressure INCREASED just to that mixer valve the hand held and tiles are the same why??
How do you remove the threaded sleeve from the valve
Great video and tips I really appreciate the good help and info. Stay handy and blessed.💯
Thank you brother I do my best to explain the plumbings :-) you stay blessed as well! Happy Holidays!
Great video. It helped out a lot. Thanks
Thank you !! Very useful video
Does the cartridge turns all the way or only half way?
Thank you very much for making this man. 🙂
Also that little plastic adjustment piece to make it hotter my plumber totally removed it I’m wondering if maybe that is the problem
Great video and tip
Do you recommend removing the screen inside the shower head
Just clean them every now and then, remove the restrictor behind that if you’re have pressure issues
Thanks for the tips!
Your welcome brother thanks for dropping a comment!
Any body have the problem where the valve doesn't shut the water off. This is happening with the new parts
Did you find a solution? I am currently having this problem
@@elizabethdumlao5040 I had to return the new one cause it was bad
@@keithforce1166 did you find a solution eventually?
Yes I bought a new valve on Amazon for half the price of Lowe's and it worked great.
@@keithforce1166 Thanks, I bought a valve but it was actually the inner second plastic piece that was bad on mine!
What if the water stays on after u do this
Probably put it in upside down. Flip it over and try again.

When you flush the valve with the cartridge out is the pressure the same from both hot and cold ports? The hot side would be on the left.
@@PlumbingExplained ... It appears the same, but I don't have a way to measure the actual pressure.
Thank you so much for thus great video 📹
the best vd out in Utube land, ths for sharing...
I did all but now the hot and cold is good now but it doesn't shut off
Thanks 🙏 very helpful!
Water gets cold only after pulling the diverter. Water is fine at the spout. Why?

Do we need to wear the mask while we do this?
Ours is new. After adjusting for temperature, low flow, low temp.
How new is new?
