Wow! I literally just finished doing this and YES, all it took was removing the little black ring. Fantastic water flow now! I used my wife’s dental pick. Shhh…
Just bought a 2 showerhead Kohler and was about to take it back to the store. I didn't realize it was a low flow 1.75 Gpm until I tried it out. Putting low flow on a dual unit is stupid. When both heads were on there wasn't enough water pressure to drive the handheld. I tried your hack and the unit is fixed! Now both showerheads feel fantastic. Thank you so much for posting this! For those interested I purchased the Kohler Viron 3-in-1 at Home Depot. The part you need to hack is where the main unit screws into the water pipe, in other words don't mess with handheld. Another cool feature is that the handheld is Magnetic, so the handheld will stay attached to wherever I place it on the bathtub.
This video is amazing! I waiting 5 months to move back into my renovated apartment and try out the very expensive Delta shower faucet I bought and was so disappointed in the weak flow I was getting from the shower. I followed these steps and within five minutes total I was back to a normal satisfying shower flow. Thanks!!
THANK YOU for this!! I have been in misery since this abusive government water restriction crap. I felt like I could no longer enjoy my a shower or shower efficiently. Soap doesn’t clean you, RINSING IT OFF does. So I’ve been spending over an hour miserable in the shower trying to rinse off, water ice cold by the end of my shower and still needing to rinse. 3rd new shower head I bought thinking it was the shower head that was the problem then learned about new government interference with shower heads since 2020. Figured life just sucks now. SO grateful there is a solution!! THSNK YOU again for providing this with multiple examples and really walking us through this.
I was about to return my new shower head thinking it was a not a good one. Removed the o ring and it was a game changer! Thank you so much. Took all of 3 minutes.
THANK you!! You showed me exactly where to look on my handheld Delta shower head and I was able to remove the flow restrictor in less than 2 minutes. Perfect our brand new house is approaching perfection. Thank you! So very glad I found your video!
I watched about 8 videos before I found yours. Instead of breaking the plastic part I took out the gasket like you said and that was enough of an increase in the pressure for me. Thanks. You saved me some work.
Thank you for this video! I've been chasing a water pressure issue in our new shower in a home addition the last 6 to 7 months. 2 minutes and a free fix. Thank you again.
You are a life saver! We just had a new shower/tub combo installed along with new hardware (including a new shower head) which looks beautiful but gave out the crappiest water spray imaginable. We were mourning the loss of our old shower head and wondering if we were going to have to buy a different showerhead because this one just SUCKED. But no more! 2 minutes of effort and the water is flowing again! Thanks so much for this quick and easy solution. :)
Holy guacamole … i think. I love you!!! I watched utube after utube after utube downright determined to get the flow restrictor out of my Delta rain shower head. And even bought a different showerhead when no success. Pull out the blue thingie, said the other guy, so I tried and tried and broke off all four tabs. Just pry it out, he said, and that was impossible. Turn it counterclockwise, he said, but nothing would turn. Then I finally found you, my hero, who said just remove the black rubber gasket and OMG I used a dental pick and it popped out and the rest is sheer joy … thank you thank you thank you.
Great video! You can also use shelf liner as a scratch guard. It has a little more grip to it than certain fabrics. Thank you so much for sharing some really useful content!
After watching your video, I did removed the rubber gasket. It works great! Thank you for showing the proper way how to and thank you for doing the video. I appreciated you.
Had to change the shower head, and the pressure significantly decreased... 10 seconds to google your video, and another 30 to skip through the Glacier Bay portion and get my water pressure back! Thank YOU!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I totally thought my shower head wasn't compatible with my water pressure in my apartment so I'm so relieved I found your vid! You've saved me!
Thank you for sharing this video! I was about to follow other people's video and remove the whole flow restrictor instead of only the washer you mentionned! Have a great day!
Thank you!!!! Was about to return it in defeat. The littler inner o-ring on the kohler is protected by a metal piece now but I was able to get a metal pick in it and pull it through enough to snip with scissors and pull out.
Thank you for the tip! Removing that little black washer made it so we could use both shower heads of our dual shower head at once! (Moen dual shower head renewal model). We needed to install a separate metal adjustable flow valve to reduce the pressure when it was too much.
I looked at the back of my shower head and it was covered in gunk! I cleaned out the debris in the kitchen sink (and left the rings in place) and the water pressure is excellent!
With high water pressure (my house is over 60psi) opening it fully is a bit much, but you can just cut the o-ring to expose 1 or 2 of those hopes and you’ll have twice the flow. Doesn’t take much. Thanks for the life hack!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! A friend replaced my shower head but the water pressure is very weak. When my husband was still alive he used to do all these things around the house and it’s a drag not being able to do the little things like this.
That video had a nice flow to it. We probably have the flow restrictor but our pressure is fine for goodness sake. I'm sure there are many folks who will be loving their shower if they had low pressure and follow your intstrucciones. Happy New Year to you and yours!
I believe you have to remove the actual plastic restrictor piece the blue part I tried this removing the o ring only and it did nothing so I looked at some more videos and it was recommended to remove the plastic piece which did work hope this helps
thanks. I found my problem was the friggin black gasket that the screen mesh is mounted to started disintigrating. That was probably clogging up the flow restrictor AND little black bits of rubber probably made it past so some of the shower head holes are probably partially plugged now too. Removed both the restrictor and the mesh, brushed clean as much of the disintigrating black rubber from the threads as I could and screwed it back in. Works perfectly for now.
This fix sure will increase the pressure for the water flow in the shower head and also... the monthly water bills with teenagers in the house 😅😅😅 Now, please make a new video on how to decrease the water pressure to make the kids leave the shower room faster🤣🤣🤣 Well done👍
Hey Andrew, thanks for this. 2:49 your Delta flow restrictor appears to have a dozen notches covered by the interior o-ring. When I took mine apart, it looked similar but was a white color with nine notches, and only 3 notches opened in the plastic, one at 12 o'clock and one more each at about 5 o'clock & 7 o'clock. There were only three holes and the rest is solid plastic. Not sure if it's a manufacturing defect or if it's intentional because I'm not able to find another flow regulator online that looks like the one I've just removed. Definitely helps explain why my flow has been dismal. Thanks again.
In the past, I was known merely as "Tim". Now they call me, "Tim, Vanquisher of Shower Flow Restrictors". Thank you for enabling me to earn my new crown!
Flow restriction INCREASES my water bill because I have to spend SO much extra time in the shower! Literally leaving your shower run double the usual amount of time, that substantially increases water bill and water use. Not rinsing off soap doesn’t save money unless you don’t mind not getting clean. And what a miserable experience.
Do I need to increase the pressure of the tub filler as well if the pressure is low there? Or can I just do the shower head without touching the bottom part?
We bought new heads and do not have any restrictor, the water comes out so hard we can hear the water flow through the walls, Concerned about high water use. How can we dial in lower pressure but not too low?
Thank you so much, my head shower water pressure was depressing until I did this. Water pressure on my shower it’s great now. Just a question would you recommend to place back the gasket filter or just leave it out? I put it back and the water pressure was full working. Just don’t know if the gasket is needed for something else?
I just paid a lot of money for a master bathroom reno and haven't used the shower all winter because it's freezing standing in the huge shower with my low-flow Delta shower head. I'm so excited to go try this out so I can enjoy my new bathroom. Dumb question, but do you put the filter/gasket and everything else back into the shower head? The only part I need to remove permanently is that black rubber circle, right? Thanks!
Couldn't figure out why my shower su ked after buying 3 different shower kits..3rd one thought it was the flow valve hidden somewhere in the wall. Nope, the POS is in my handheld. Thanks for the vid. Now I can power wash my ballsack!!
That’s what they told us but I reality the government wants to control every aspect of our lives including how we shower. They simply use the guise of “were here to help lower your water bill!”

Do I need to replace the small mesh guard before putting shower head back on the wall?
I have the same question. I will reinstall for right now.
Nice, I never realized that it was just the rubber washer causing the underflow. Fixed mine right up, thank you.

The result was fantastic water pressure thank you :)
Don't you have to take out the actual flow restrictor, not just the o-ring?
I agree! I removed the small black washer and it did not change the flow at all.
Pulling out the rubber O ring made a big difference for me (Glacier Bay).
Exactly right sir! Remove the flow restrictor. Hence the word restrictor. Nice to know that someone else other than myself has common sense. TY.

These were put in place to help consumers lower their water bill. However if you have awful pressure it might be worth it to remove them.
True - for my teenagers who like 1/2 long showers, I would keep them in. For me I want a quick powerful shower.

What if your residential pressure is so high its over 200psi? Will any shower heads reduce that?
