THANK YOU! I've tried a couple different shower heads trying to find one that has good pressure. I probably use more water because I have to shower longer when the water barely comes out. Especially for those of us with long hair.
It's my first time to see a hack that works on RUclips , almost called a plumber but decided to check RUclips first then BOOM I saw your video and I did the first step you did , my shower pressure now is normal...thanks you saved me a few bucks .I'm subscribing immediately
thanks So very much Bill, for almost 6 months I was putting water to Bucket and taking bath .. but from today . I can say .. I took a shower :-) at last :-)
I watched a few of your videos before I tackle a shower head replacement. As always you provide great tips and especially about the restrictor. Thanks again.
Hurrah! I now know how to remove the shower head as this is exactly the same as mine. I can now clean it sad whilst I’m at it, I will remove the water restrictor which I didn’t know existed. My water comes out of the head at the same speed as how it does in the first film.
Bill you are a bloody life saver mate! My shower is similar and weak as p***! I didn't even know manufactures put these things in. I'll try this. Cheers and thanks.
Was in a caravan park that had an instantaneous hot water system that would cut out mid shower due to low water flow rate resulting in freezing water in the shower. Removed the the restrictor and perfect hot showers for the rest of the stay.
Ok, thanks mate. Very helpful. This was my problem. I shower I half the time using the same amount of water but less electricity running the fan and light.
If you have a pick tool you can also pop out the o-ring rather than removing the entire flow regulator and try the shower again. In my case it was enough for me to finally get the flow rate required for Satinjet technology to work its magic.
Fantastic video, very informative. I don't suppose this restrictor tech is also fitted to Bath shower mixer taps??? Our landlord had to replace the bath shower mixer tap a couple of years ago, and since the shower pressure has been rubbish.
On the restrictor usually you gone a find a little rubber O ring inside , try first with out the O ring and put back the restrictor and try, because sometime take out all the restrictor can be to much
Something no one talks about is taking the restricters off of the faucets and shower heads to see if there is debris built up. I live in a sandy area and I have to clean sand out of mine twice a year.
@@Ohkeh640yeah I lived in a rental and the plumber said the flow was crap and he removed the restrictor and showed me how. He said it's crap because we were really high up and there was lower than normal water pressure compared to ground floor apartments.
So glad I've found your videos. Keep up the great work. New subscriber here!! Would love to see how to level a backyard that already has grass but don't want to dig up the grass (because it's great, thick grass) just need to know how to level it out please. If this is possible without having to dig up my lawn. Cheers Bill. 🍻
Use washed river sand. If it’s not washed, it can be full of weed seeds. Spread it on and make sure you leave some of the grass showing. Just repeat it over a few weeks/months until you are happy.
I know right... Hardly see any Aussie RUclipsrs posting things. Probably afraid they'll lose money by teaching others or give their competition a leg up but if anything, this would make you want to hire Bill even more because you know he knows what he's doing.
I tried this and found a rubber seal in the shower head with a mesh centre.. i assume this is the restrictor. I removed it and didnt see any noticeable pressure difference, but saw water weeping out the shower head thread so i stuck a screw driver through the mesh and removed this part keeping the rubber seal which i put back in. Pressure difference certainly not as noticeable as this but might be a slightly better. My shower head is 400mm square so that may make a difference. Pleased it's out though regardless. Thanks
Nice one Bill. Wondering if you can suggest something please. I was changing a shower head and dropped the wrench. It took a chip out of the acrylic shower base. Do u recommend something I can patch it with, it's probably a qtr size of a one cent piece, so it's pretty small. So looking for something waterproof but also in a similar creamy colour to the base. Was thinking some maxisil coloured silicone seslant from bunnings. Thanks in advance.
@Billshowto - how were you so sure the restrictor was not in the shower head itself ? maybe the shower restrictor was the black piece seen at @2.19 to @2.20
So when my showerhead is on the shower, it’s all low pressure and stuff but when I turn it on massage, it throws me down because it’s so strong. Why is the massage regular but the shower is not.
Hey mate, Is this the reason why my rain shower head is making loud noises when I turn the pressure up? Im forced to have no pressure just so I dont get i industrial deafness.
The reason you have that filter is not to reduce water flow or save water. It’s there to prevent debris from getting to the shower head 🚿 and block the holes. It’s more difficult to unclog the actual shower head if blocked. If the filter is dirty, just clean it. Don’t damage it or put a hole in it. If you do that you reduce the lifespan of the whole shower head because sooner or later the debris will clog the shower head and you will need replacement
That's not a filter though. The O ring changes shape according to the flow of water blocking or opening holes in the flow regulator to maintain the same flow rate whether you have not enough flow or too much. My shower had a mesh filter in the rain head and hand shower and a flow regulator in the part that connects to the wall.
My shower head I honestly don't think is my issue. Because we have taken off the shower head and without anything placed on. It's still not as we would like it to be. What else can it be?
Hey bud, I just bought a shower-head and it has a brass nut that screws into the wall, but it doesn't have any kind of 'stopper' so it keeps screwing deep into the tiles, so I can't work out how to tighten it as the shower head just wants to spin. Is there a simple fix to this or should I return the shower head?
Do what I've done for years, remove it before you install it in the first place, don't even bother waiting for the head to lose pressure. These things may work fine on some hot water systems, but on instantaneous, they are useless. You need pressure to keep the gas system delivering hot water.

I saw a cut there at 5:29

Great video. I always lay a rag over the drain (or close the drain, if it's a sink.) I only had to lose one screw down the drain to learn that trick.

Extremely helpful Bill. Highly professional vid containing all the info needed.
Reducing the amount of water...means I stay in the shower longer..... Thanks Bill. Weekend project coming up.

Thanks mate, we've got that exact shower head, so I'll take the restricter out, thanks for letting me know where it is Bill.

Top notch stuff, Bill.

I'm going to try this solutions today. I'll be updating . Video is great.
Thank you so much! Will definitely do this to my shower.
👍👍👍
Thanks for the tips! Great video. Im going to try this on my shower right now
Thanks Bill. I will now check my kitchen tap, it's horrid. Super low pressure.
Kitchen tap will most likely be the aerator. I have a video on that also 👍👍👍
Could also try the water shutoff knob underneath the kitchen sink.

There's a special place in hell for whoever invented water restrictors.
Something no one talks about is taking the restricters off of the faucets and shower heads to see if there is debris built up. I live in a sandy area and I have to clean sand out of mine twice a year.
Shower heads will have a restrictor whilst taps/faucets generally have an aerator. I have a video on the aerator as well 👍👍👍
BTW...Do I need to shut the water off at the main before I start ?

Your videos are the best mate . Keep it up
No loctite or ptfe tape? It might leak now behind the tiles!
Also it's always good to add some silicone grease to the o-rings/washers/seals
Do plumbers remove these restrictors?

Great video but never mentioned, do you have to turn off the water at the mains supply before doing this?
No, as long as your taps are off no water will come out the shower head👍
Where are you located?? Do plumbers deal with removing restrictors and twisting taking apart all the shower parts? Thx
Love that shower head too..
I see on some mixers it says some cartridges are 35mm and some are 40mm why is this on the boxes? What is the difference? TIA
Flow restrictors reduce water volume rather than pressure.
What if the wall fixture won’t come off ?
Thank goodness an Australian How to ...

The mesh filter is to stop crud getting into shower head and blocking the jets. You've probably got a restrictor upstream of that. HTH
Brilliant!🤩 Thank U for sharing🙏🙌🙌

Hi Bill, are there restrictors also in the hand shower heads?

Surgu is great. I fixed the rubber gasked on my washing mashine (next to the door) , it's lasted 8 years.
@Billshowto - how were you so sure the restrictor was not in the shower head itself ? maybe the shower restrictor was the black piece seen at @2.19 to @2.20
No that's the rubber seal. That's why you don't have to use PTFE tape when you screw the shower head back on.
Excellent , well done
👍

My shower looks like this only thing everything is in one so I will check it to see if it has a restrictor

Great Video, are restrictors mostly colored red?
I have come across a variety of colors 👍
Brilliant! Subscripted
Increased the flow only pressure went down as flow increased ......pressure is created as flow is decreased.
My shower head I honestly don't think is my issue. Because we have taken off the shower head and without anything placed on. It's still not as we would like it to be. What else can it be?
Amazing all the work that goes into that shower design only to be ruined by that red piece of (planet saving) plastic.
Thank u. I'll leave another comment later once I try this on a callback I've just had😂😂
Can you just buy a higher pressure head, that does not have the little restrictor gizmo in there?
Unfortunately, Most have them. It’s for water efficiency 👍
Shower head manufacturers are required by law to put them in every shower head in the US. 😤
What brand is the shower head
What brand is this shower head?
... this is applicable to like....10% of showers tops? This configuration is nothing like my own showerhead setup. No hate just putting it out there.
Thank you!
Surely it's in to make it 'feel' like being in the rain and not supposed to come out so quick? Fair enough cleaning the gunk out.
No, all new shower heads have them 👍

I’ve done this 1 million times I just use a drywall screw and screw it into the plastic and then pull it out with a pair of pliers
Good idea 👍
1/4 inch drill bit works well also.

Yeah, come to my house and fix everything
Ty
Hi you never tightened up the Allen key fitting
Legend has it, the grub screw is still not tightened.....
Just remove flow restrictor.
You cannot increase water pressure by this method. Removing a restrictor will only increase flow rate or water volume, not pressure.
I removed mines but it's still the same
Low flow...... I don't like the sound of that. 👍
Dont understand why they need restrictor to save water. Just pinch the valve.
