you just saved me an unnecessary purchase. I was originally gonna buy a new showerhead considering our current one was no good- living in Texas, especially during the summer, means nothing but a trickle of water comes out of our shower. Instead, I decided to see if there were any alternatives. I came across this video, gave it a shot, and boom. Worked like a charm. Best water pressure I've had in years

  • @celestialchik

Thank you so, so much! I just bought a detachable shower head and was shocked by how terrible the pressure was! It was like a trickling stream, which works for some but DEFINITELY not for me. I removed the plastic restrictor and the pressure is now nice and powerful!

Oh this was EXACTLY what I needed... I've been living in this house for 1.5 years and the water pressure (even after changing head) always bothered me and this was the perfect (and quick) fix
I even went to our kitchen sink which basically dribbled water and applied the same method and now I'm able to fill the kettle without going for a nap
    Thanks again

So guess everything has a restrictive device. Kitchen water sink. Drives me batty. Where is the restriction thing on the sinks. ? Thanks

@@stephanierobinette4425 The very end of the tap where the water comes out is removable. Unscrew it and inside you'll see the restrictor in there. Just pop it out and screw the tap end back on.
After following the instructions in this video for the shower head, I too went around the house and removed the rest. Man, what a difference. No more waiting forever for the hot water to get hot (or the cold to get cold) and rinsing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher now just takes a few seconds, instead of standing there forever. And as the OP pointed out, filling the kettle is now done in a flash!

Very helpful! I texted my new landlord today after my first shower was pitiful and took forever to get shampoo out of my hair. Thankfully they responded to help fix it that day very quickly, but when I got home from work later it was the same. This video thought me how to remove an o ring and clear out some major calcium buildup that was in there. Put it back on and works great! Thanks!

I’m going to check out my shower head tomorrow.
I’m a get in, scrub down and get out bather.
Because of the pathetic water pressure, my time to shower has increased significantly. So has my time to clean my shower. I feel that I’m using more water now compared to other places I’ve lived at.
    Thank you for your advice.

I'll never understand the "save us from ourselves" pundits who seem to think that having to take a 15 minute shower with almost no pressure is better than a 5 minute shower with twice the pressure. The "trickle" shower actually uses MORE water than a full-pressure one. Save us from do-gooders who enact laws to cure non-existent problems & without actually researching to see if it needs fixing...or whether the "fix" is worse than the problem. Anyway, thanks for the video!! I just took apart my shower wand set and eventually found the restrictor, hidden inside the wand hanger section. Despite all my water pressure, the tiny little restrictor hole (less than 1/8" diameter) was forcing a lot of water out the faucet, rather than out the shower head. Not anymore!!

    • @richmellow3315

      Exactly,
I spent more time looking for soap to rinse off than actual bathing. This water restricter removal information should be in the installation instructions, but I'm sure the manufacturers aren't allowed to inform the public even if they wanted to.

Today I followed this great video and it worked, it just required a slight modification to a brand new Moen shower head, really helped to learn that the restrictor valve is in the inlet arm of the unit, no need to mess with the shower head. In my case there was just room to insert a twisted stiff wire with a hooked end under the cross of the plastic restrictor and pull hard, it just popped out in one piece. Done deal, rescrewed the head unit onto its hose and now have a real shower, not a poor excuse of one. The piece that popped out was obviously just pushed in originally, its a circular shaped plastic piece with a cross that seems to be there for the extraction option to perform, just pull hard with that hooked wire under the plastic cross of the restrictor and you win.

OMGOD!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I LITERALLY LOOOOVVVEEE YOU FOR THIS!!!!
I've been having miserable showers for about a year-and-a-half, and I thought it was due to the new one handle faucet the building management had a plumber install in my shower.

Yes! 😊 You clever man. Sometimes it takes so long to take a shower that I probably use the same amount of water with or without the restriction. 🤔 With a low water flow, it takes lots of extra time to rinse shampoo and conditioner from hair, and lots of extra time to get the soap off the body. I've changed out my shower head 3 or 4 times, hoping for improvement. My current shower head has a twist to make available 4 or 5 choices, so I can still switch to low when needed, even if I decide to remove the restriction.

I restrict my water pressure at the line coming into my house so I do conserve water, thereby conserving my money. This video will help allow me to take a shower without having to run around in circles to get wet. Now if you have a video on how to bypass low flow toilets I will be able to conserve more water by not having to flush multiple times to get ride of those pesky "floaters". ;)

    • @FROSTYLIFE
      @FROSTYLIFE  5 лет назад +3

They make some toilets that have a more forceful flush without using too much water. It is all about the design and unfortunately there is no way to open up the rate of flush. You could perhaps adjust how full the tank gets so that there is more water available. That is a pretty easy adjustment to make in the back of the toilet tank.

I loved your video especially since I have a new bathroom. When the plumber finished up we put on the shower. I might be an OF, but I have thick hair.....t]he darn thing trickled. He took the head off and said look, the gasket has such a small hole. I said I had another shower head, it had a larger holed gasket, installed it, and now my shower will almost get my beard wet to the skin..,..almost. This was a great video to come across. I am just lucky that I hadn't dismantled my shower in our outbuilding bathhouse that has an ECCOTEMP propane on demand hot water heater...PS: $125 to the house and has worked great for 7 years, but we finally have "inside" plumbing which has been not up to par, maybe it will NOW thanks to you. Now that I've lauded you, it is time to smack you down just a bit. I do not consider what you called needle nose pliers to be needle nose pliers, more like big clumsy vice grips....doesn't matter that much. The thing though, is those of us with outboards sometimes don't really listen to those with inboards. Your wife showed you how to clean the shower head with vinegar and water and to agitate the shower head by moving around the shower head parts. You then went in and typical outboard fashion, didn't do as she had shown, you said agitate the solution, but you didn't say to move the shower head parts around......yep, those in the outboard section sometimes don't listen well to the inboards.....I'm guilty also at times. Thanks for the video and hoping to have a full bore INDOOR shower later today......and THANKS TONS, next time I see the plumber I will have to tell him about this video.....who knows, maybe by law a licensed plumber can't legally tell a client these things----peace and good day all

The vice grip is all I had. I have no budget for tools and have not had anyone ever teach me the terminology, and I do my best to simply help people. Hahaha, I could learn to listen to my wife, and follow directions better.

Good video. Only thing I would add is, before reassembling, one should put plumbers grease on the O-rings to protect them from drying out in the future. Makes a big difference in O-ring longevity, as well.

what kind of grease? is this a WD-40 situation?

Good information and great rationalizing for doing it. If you use teflon tape, wrap it on in the correct direction.

Thanks very much for the helpful video, just got a Pfister from Home Depot for $20 and after first installing it, the water pressure was awful. Followed your video and took the low flow thing out, in Pfister it was purple not green but the same thing. Also had trouble pulling it out with pliers so was able to unscrew part of it and push it out from the other end with a nail and a hammer, it was really in there. Cheers =)

Instead of buying new red 2.2 GPM flow restrictors I used your tip to remove to O-ring for both my shower faucet and sink faucets and now everything is working great. Sink faucets were producing only 0.5 GPM (after cleaning in white vinegar solution), but after removing the O-ring they are now making 1.25 GPM. That is still slight under the 1.5 GPM they are rated for, but it makes a world of difference in using the faucet and it was fast and free to fix them this way. Thanks for helping me remove one of the most annoying problems in my sinks!

Hello, I could not get needle nose pliers to work, so I drilled a hole with a 3/16 drill into the center of the plastic restrictor just through the plastic surface about 3/8", stop the drill and the plastic restrictor valve will get held in place onto the drill bit, then just pull it out, it worked!

At 3:20 you're actually instructing the viewer to get rid of the sediment filter (the piece with the tab that unscrews) Don't discard the filter! Instead, punch out the piece underneath it from the ball, if it exists, which is the actual restrictor. Then REPLACE the sediment filter.

I have added gaskets to old inefficient nozzle heads to reduce the flow, but it still has a strong enough flow better than new restricted nozzle heads. The video star is spot on: get wet, turn down the flow, soap and scrub, rinse off, and get out of the shower to dry off. Showers are wonderful way to get clean quickly, but using showers as massage therapy is pretty wasteful.
