Excellent advice. I was having a UTI every three weeks or so. After talking to my doctor who told me about incomplete bladder emptying, I became conscious of it. Gently pressing the bladder worked for me. It’s been five years since my last UTI. Urgency and “accidents” no more. From waking up to “go” four or five times a night, now one or none. I can enjoy a movie or a party or go to a restaurant without having to visit the bathroom. I’m 78 years old and feeling great. And it didn’t cost a dime! Thank you for sharing this great advice!

I’m 64. I was told this years and years ago by a specialist after I had a year of on off kidney infections. The bacteria that can form from not emptying the bladder fully can go back up to the kidneys. He said when you think you’ve finished, just sit and wait a few minutes longer. Give the bladder a chance to double void. I’ve done this ever since.

i feel scammed that i didn’t learn that when i was potty trained. i think we all could benefit from learning the „basics“ professionally. that’s eating, peeing, walking, running, posture, sleeping, etc. somehow we are expected to know how things work, but we just manage somehow.

To stand up and suddenly need to sit back down and pee again is so embaraasing in public restrooms when folks are waiting for a stall, and at work when coworkers are right next to me! And those horrible automated flush toilets always manage to flush right when I am sitting back down. Aaack! 🥺

I will try all of these immediately. I have great trouble emptying my bladder, and this is the first video I've found on the topic. For a year or so I actually had no control over my bladder and couldn't hold my urine. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and my doctors told me unfortunately the two weren't related so removing the tumor would not relieve the urinary incontinence. Well, they were wrong! They saved my life AND improved it greatly -- I haven't peed in my pants since surgery 2-1/2 years ago. Thank you so much for these ideas!

I literally go to the bathroom at least twice an hour and if I have to hold it longer I feel like I’m going to burst! I’m always saying I have to “pee the rest of my pee” because it’s always there and never fully feels like it’s all coming out. Also I recently got checked and no UTI. I don’t want to go on medication. Most of these things I’ve already tried, but just tried the hula hoop movement and felt like it helped get more urine out! I will be continuing to try to things! Thank you so much!!!

I learned that pouring water (normal temperature) over the pubic area helps the surrounding nerves to contract the bladder too. Wait for the leftover pee to come out. It works. And don't hurry. It's healthy. Prevents bladder stone formation. So as not to miss out doing this, I mindfully carry a small bottle of water for this purpose. Luckily, I live in a country where even public toilets may have one cubicle, at least, with a bide. Very thankful for more explanations and techniques given here to take care of this very important function. These help a lot.

Thank you for this information-I've had UTIs for 65 years on and off. My last c section did a number on my bladder where it won't empty completely. I had the dilations over a period of time culminating in a urethrotomy-that made things way worse with more infections. I was told by one nurse to sit on the toilet backwards to aid in emptying-it is helpful but not always feasible. Thanks for these tips-I will definitely try them!

Hmmm.....I had the same issue (not emptying my bladder completely). I recently found d out that there are nerves in your lower back area that can get caught in between the spinal discs that can cause a variety of issues, one being bladder incontinence. I've noticed that being true in my case. Whenever I go through lower backaches, I get this incontinence and once I resolve my backache the incontinence goes away. Maybe your back surgery is causing your bladder issue.

The best way to empty your bladder and also number 2 is to use a Turkish toilet, for people that don't know it's just a hole made out of ceramic and you sit over it in the squatting position, much much better than a conventional western toilet to empty your self, and it's more hygienic as well because when men stand up to empty their bladder you can't see it completely but spray goes everywhere not only into the toilet, we did a test and we couldn't smell urine after sitting down to urinate as men after a week. Great video some great suggestions Thankyou.

Very useful information indeed. Most of us are in a hurry to empty our bladder which is the root cause of major urinary tract problems. Our own Ayurveda suggests to sit , meaning to use Orissa pan commode instead of European seat. Avoid drinking any liquid while standing and never drink water immediately after urination. Last but very important pass urine just before taking a bath.

Thanks so much for your video. I have one more thing to add. After a number of UTIs, my urologist told me to place both hands on my lower abdomen, lock my fingers together and gently press down. Also not to lean over, as a woman that has had a number of children, may have a forward tilted badder. of course not completely emptying the badder can cause UTIs, which I was unaware can actually kill you. Had a holististic Dr to place a small plastic squeezable ball right at the end of your knees, at the bend of the legs, while seated on commode as you indicated, then squeeze the knees toether as tightly possible, hard as you can (no using hands to help) for 45 seconds to a minute; then remove ball and resume forward relaxed position again, and wait. The bladder will shortly release every last drop that is there. The squeeze ball size is relative to the length of the legs. Shorter legs will use a small sport ball, while basketball players may just use that. Its the pressure of the right angle/width; and the stretching of the hips, that allows some how the bladder to let go of the rest . But it does work. And what wonderful feeling. Hope this helps. gal

I have some retention anyway due to the uti so I will follow your tips so I don't do more harm than good, thanks again

What's interesting is that I did not know I wasn't emptying completely until I had to have an ultrasound. They had me drink a brunch of water and wait. They did their ultrasound and then had me go to the bathroom so they could continue the next part of the ultrasound. They had me come back and said my bladder was still pretty full although they knew I went to the bathroom right off the room from their testing area. I can move around and still leak out after going to the bathroom and yet, I wake up every 2 hours every night, all night long and never get to sleep more than that at a time. It's quite frustrating and no one ever gave me an option other than taking medication for it. I'm so tired and never sleep well because of it... Medication is not the answer and I won't do that! I will try and do the things you suggest. Thank you.

I was told 2 years ago that I would have to self-catheterize myself, but decided to look further into a healthier method. I realized that squatting to the floor such as in a bathtub made the experience less painful and I didn’t have to void more than 2 times per session. So I bought a bedpan on Amazon and used that to squat to the floor and pee over it and then I dump the waste into the toilet. I sometimes have to use the tap over bladder method even when squatting but this position prevents me from straining causing more inflammation. Sure my knees and ankles had to get use to it and it was uncomfortable at first but I persevered. I had to get used to being in that position, but it saved me so much money from not having to depend on urethral dilation procedures and catheters and even more evasive procedures. I am so thankful I discovered this method because when you’re told there isn’t any other option besides medication and procedures and you’re told to just relax when it’s too painful to simply relax can be triggering, or you don’t have the money to see a pelvic therapist, this does wonders for anymore who needs more than the methods in this video. I am not dissing the video because it is informative, but I noticed the comments below and wanted to share my experience because I have suffered from urethral stricture for over 20 years as well as bladder inflammation (interstitial cystitis) and chronic urethral inflammation. I managed to improve over time by self-advocating for myself than masking my issues. I hope this helps anyone who isn’t getting answers and feels hopeless. Sure I still void 2-3 times depending if I triggered my bladder spasms through stress and diet, but knowing I can use a bedpan bc I don’t have access to an Indian toilet definitely helps relieve symptoms.

The feeling of peeing just doesn’t go away… every time I get up, there is little more that I have to push out. I knew I was hurting my urethra by pushing so much. Recently got an ultrasound and everything looks fine. Urine test looks ok too. I’ll try your method.

I get so many UTI’s in this last year. I’ve been recently diagnosed with neurogenic bladder and had an episode where I couldn’t pee at all and needed a catheter because I was about to burst quite literally they drained almost 2 litres immediately. I have never experienced so much pain from not being able to pee so now I’m really conscious of trying to pee but often times I really have to push hard almost like what I imagine it’s like to push in labour to have a baby! Then I also get bladder pain that’s worsened after peeing along with higher urgency to pee which then settles after a while then the whole cycle repeats itself. A permanent catheter is likely in my future and that terrifies me😩

Thanks for this, years ago when I was on diuretics and I was so constantly going to the bathroom that I ended up not being able to leave the house, I mentioned this to the doctor who instructed me to leave going as long as possible to stretch my bladder. I quit the diuretics instead as I also believed they were doing me harm in other ways. Incidentally, I did have to be catheterized a couple of times way before this, both times after surgery. In view of the current situation I am doing everything I can to stay away from the hospital and the rest. Thanks for the advice.
