Every day real time issues that occur in everyone’s lives everywhere in the world. Room 222 was truly a great television program that dealt with these issues. Today’s television doesn’t have what Room 222 had.
Once again great writing and acting. The Mr Dixon character shows such compassion … he really makes a difference. Saw this as a kid on black and white tv.
I watched this when I was around 10 years old with my parents, they were both teachers. Seeing it now from and adult perspective is eye opening. Thanks for sharing.
I was so much like Harvey Butcher -- even wrote for the paper, and related to my peers through my humor rather than my genuine self. It's spooky how much it seems like they wrote this about me.
High school can be a trying time for mostly all of us but one of our best learning experiences to later correct in ourself where we know now we went wrong at. If it's any consolation to you everyone has seen an image of themself in some tv show.
This was a beautiful episode and funny, yes school can hurt so much, but so can having a factory job where i work it feels like high school the way the adults act, ridiculous, the kids in this show seem more adults than adults today. Wish i was a different age when this show was on 😊....going to buy the DVD set of this series as soon as i can 😘🍁🦋🌺🌼⚘🇺🇸
Harvey Butcher was no different than any other student who seemed weird. Most of them had adjustment problems and prevailed in society!Made a lot of money!
@phillydisco I think you're right. Back then all young people were thin. So was I and almost all of my classmates. We ate what we wanted...just smaller portions. What happened? McDonalds? We all ate there but there was no "Supersize" options or "Fat Acceptance".

Nostalgic. I had a crush on the Dixon character and I was in elementary school. I always wished he was my teacher. I can hear the opening music to the show to this day
I was only 4 years old in 1969, but I do remember seeing this show as I got older. Very underrated. It’s interesting that the boy is seen as fat back in 1969, but he would be considered normal now. He also looks a bit like John Hinckly. I always thought Alice and Helen were so sweet and pretty. Thanks for posting these episodes.
I'm not sure I have ever heard the Beatles perform it. I come from a family of jazz musicians, so the only version that I can remember hearing is the version by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
Harvey Butcher made a return appearance in an episode called "The Laughing Majority," which isn't on RUclips yet. He must have made a big impression on viewers -- I remember this "Funny Boy" episode very well.

I'm 35 years old,and been watching this television classic for years and years, and i'm still watching one of the greatest television series of the 70's.great show.
Harvey reminds me of myself at that age, using humor as a shield. The difference is that he at least tried to get a date, I always knew I would fail so why bother.
The girl in the newspaper office was the late Heather Menzies, who was best known as one of the children in the Sound of Music and was married to actor Robert Urich. Also, the guy who played history teacher Mr. Walters played a bum on a Sanford and Son episode.

Shows were really lame in those days , but this show was pretty controversial at the time believe it or not. Black teacher, Mini Skirt wearing teacher, every teenage boy wanted to "make out with" and realistic characters, even if it was sort of sterile corporate dialogue, it was a lot better than Bonanza for sure. Seems like a hundred billion years ago : ( Watch out kids. Time goes like a bolt of lightening, and it sure is relative.

This was decent television. I used to watch this when I was a kid. I would have dated a Harvey, because he aimed to please. He would have treated a girl wonderfully. I think he was cute. It was the football player types that were mean.

Never saw this show when I was growing up in the early 70s. But now that I am an adult in 2018 this show is very relevant nearly 50 years later.
Relevant now, ahead of it's time then
Plus, it’s a great window into the fact that everyone always got along good, and the division was created by other sources.

This show, Room 222, aired from 1969 to 1974, and was very popular, a favorite of much of the population at that time.
I was just a young boy when this showed aired, but I always loved Denise Nicholas. I thought she was and still is very pretty.
Michael Constantine was great in this and continued in great role for years. So good as the father in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” years later!
