    Steve Perry was one of those rare cats who could replicate his studio vocals in concert every damn time. Even greats like Robert Plant often couldn't manage to hit their studio notes on stage, so the live versions of their songs frequently sounded quite different than what you heard on their albums. Not the case with Journey.

They preferred their former harder rock style and felt Steve was running the band. There was something to the effect that he said he never really felt like one of the band and the rest of the band felt like he was running the show. As I recall. They reached an un precedented success level with Perry at vocals.

    • @ZoeyPaigeLunaPhD
      @ZoeyPaigeLunaPhD 3 года назад +1

      @@brianmorton4270 I’m just saying it wasn’t “all him”. They were more of a prog rock instrumental band before Perry. They made the conscious decision to go to a more commercial format with shorter songs and to get a front man. Yes they hit the lottery in getting a star in waiting like Perry but it wasn’t “all him”. Wheel in the sky was written before he was even in the band. Their Demo version with Robert Fleishman on vocals, while harder rock than the Perry version, was still clearly gonna be a hit.

    1978. I still have this vinyl LP. I saw Journey in 1975 before Steve Perry was in the band. This performance was at the very beginning of Steve Perry with Journey. You can tell by Neil Schon's afro. As I've said before. Steve Perry is from my part of the country back in the day. Perry is from Hanford, CA. He visited the local FM radio station KBOS in Tulare, CA a few times to get his name out there. He sang in several central California valley night clubs before getting connected to Journey. A DJ buddy from KBOS took a couple of pictures of himself, a few other DJs and Steve Perry at the radio station, which he sent me copies of via the internet.

    Journey was one of my mom's favourite bands when I was younger in all because of Steve Perry, Years later when I went to med school I ended up in Grand Forks North Dakota and later on live in South Dakota for a spell, In those 2 States journey is just as big as they ever were and they have journey cover bands and every person in the area knows their music and I breaks out into singing it when they hear their songs, You can listen to any radio station in those 2 States it doesn't matter what type of music on that station they will still put a journey song on that station every once in a while during the day because they are that popular.

    Please react to Journey's song "Feeling that Way" which showcases both Perry"s & Rollie's vocal talent. It's like a friendly back & forth competition of their voices in that song.💕😍

    4:20 I couldn't imagine how they were laying this track in the studio and Steve Perry would do this and say "did you like that one"? Wanna do it another way?? Crazy talent

    Jamel,
    I agree with you! I love these old shows! Greg Rollie is over there on the keys, but he lost being Journey’s voice when Perry came in! Rollie was also one of singers of Santana, so he’s got chops as well!! And, of course, Rollie and Schon left Santana and formed Journey!
    One of my favorite bands!

    Hello and happy Canada day to my fellow Journey fans north and south. Journey is a once in a few generations band that i was blessed enough too see live. I had seen a few bands but not quite as good. True professionals who also had an amazing stage setup with a wide open 100 foot wide with only a drum kit and piano/ keys
    .I had never seen anything like it. From this line up Journey was still with Greg Rollie keyboards who started Journey with guitarist Neal Schon from Santana fame where they first played together.Also fun fact Neal Schon was very young when he played with Santana. Ainsley Dunbar was the original drummer for them but left the band and joined up with Ozzy's solo venture with the late great guitarist Randy Rhoades. Love Steve Perry's vocals( I always wanted to be Steve Perry lol). Amazing time in music history. Those days you had to pull it off Live with very little special digital affixs.I would put Steve Perry up their with Robert Plant and Freddy Mercury.Again Happy Canada day and Happy Inpendence day to Jamal keep up the great work. Love your be humble tshirt. Those are biblical princibles the greatest being Love(love they neighbor as yourself and love The LORD your God with all your mind heart and spirit is the whole of the law. Ten commandments where we get the magna cater and Us constitution. Play safe and Stay free.
