I'm listening to music since 58 I truly believe Steve Perry is the greatest singer ever. Of course there's many great singers but Steve is in a league of his own, sings difficult songs effortlessly, tremendous range, tone. The best of the best!
he's up there fer sure
That's why he was known as The Voice.... years ago before it was a TV show
The Voice... I believe that Jon Bonjovi named him that. First song I ever heard of Journey! Love it!!!
Different singer's for different music. No one best for all
Frank Sinatra on line 1 youngen.
You can never go wrong with Steve Perry's voice. Great song.
I recently found out something interesting, Steve Perry provided the singing voice for King Arthur in the movie Quest for Camelot!
Steve Perry has the voice of Sam Cooke
This is from "Infinity", Journey's fourth album, and the first with Steve Perry as lead vocalist. In essence, it's about longing to get back home, and reunite with a loved one.
Steve's voice propelled Journey to superstardom. The man was born to sing.
Sometimes I think this is about on the road as a musician!! Never a bad song from Journey! Steve Perry is the voice!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
The wheel in the sky is the earth that keeps turning...time passing by.
It is about being on the road as a musician
Steve Perry is the VOICE!!! This is one of my many favorites by Journey!!!
❤️❤️❤️
Asia, I’m with you girl…it’s STEVE PERRY!!!!
Journey I could listen to 24 hours everyday ❤
So many people miss Steve singing during the guitar solo. Listen again and hear him
Yup
This.....that's my favorite part of the song
Yes my favorite part
Asia & BJ, you’ll love their "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' and "Anyway You Want It"!!!
Y’all should watch their live Midnight Special performance of this song. When he hits that high note during the first guitar solo is AMAZING!!!!
Holy Crap, you ain't kiddin' ... he sounds better than the studio cut.
Every Reactor misses the notes that Perry sings while Neil is doing his solo... TOTALLY AMAZING
This entire 'Infinity' album is an incredible rock album. No filler.
Winds Of March is my favorite. The bridge that leads into the organ solo is fantastic. One of the best Steve Perry songs ever. And best Journey album with Steve Perry.
Seems like yesterday this song came out, it never gets old, I will, but this won't. 😂
Why? Because the wheel in the sky does, indeed, keep on turning.
Being on the road touring is how this song came about. The grind of it all!!!
The Wheel in the Sky - Time keeps going forward.
The wheel in the sky is referring to the signs of the Zodiac; the calendar keeps turning over. Six months go by in the song -- it starts out in the winter & later he mentions a long summer day. He's lamenting being on the road, feeling like he'll never make back home to his woman. He says he hopes she can hold on a little longer. I love the almost haunting tone of the guitar playing under the vocals towards the end of the song.
Watching a time elapse video of the sky makes the metaphor of the wheel very apparent.
Always love a song by Journey, the songs Mother Father & Lovin touchin squeezin live performances are both awesome too, Steve's voice is always a wow.😎❤️🎶🎸👌
It's music like this that sends me back to my teen years listening to the FM radio.
What an incredible voice steve Perry has. So free and expressive
The Voice is by far the best vocalist in modern music!! Mother Father live performance at 1981 Houston concert is AMAZING!!
One of the best...Geoff Tate, Ronnie James Dio, Rik Emmett, Robin Zander, Brad Delp are every bit as good as Steve! Emmett is also a virtuoso guitarist and could hit ANY note Steve could...of course neither could hit the same notes today. Steve once asked Rik how he hit those high notes so effortlessly when Triumph opened for Journey at the Rose Bowl. Of course, Rik said he asked the same of Steve. I am not taking anything away from Perry...simply virtuoso...but there are others on his level.
My favorite band and singer. Love Steve Perry. No other voice like his. They have so many great songs. Did you notice Steve Perry's high note during the guitar solo. When Journey 1st got together Steve used to harmonize to Neil's guitar solos. I'm with you Asia. I always get excited to hear Journey
This whole album is fire!
Dang I missed the debut.. . I first heard this song I was 14 or 15. In concert is beyond words. Stage shows were the thing back in the day. The shows were way past AWESOME!!!!
He's talking about the Days passing by " The wheel ( The sun) keeps on turn'n...* Revolving around the sky in succession....Life on the road ( endless days)...Touring Rock band Life.....I lived it ! Raised on Radio is their Best album....several #1 Hits on that one !
What??? This song is AMAZING❣
The “wheel in the sky” is a reference to the sun.
The wheel in the sky is simply the earth revolving around the sun. The lyrics talk about the passage of time away from home and the changing seasons. To me, it’s that simple, but others look for more of a spiritual or philosophical meaning.
Still mu all time favorite Journey song. I have been fortunate to see them live three times in the early 80's . Steve Perry is phenomenal. The Voice.
Thanks for reacting to this one -- it's my all time favorite Journey song! Heard it for the first time on the radio at work. I was 19. They played it in a block of songs, no announcement of the name or artist. I called the station --- "Please tell me the name of that song....'I don't know where I'll be tomorrow'." I was so jazzed when they told me. Stopped at the record store and bought the album on the way home that day. This brought back some great memories.
Journey had other albums before the "Infinity" album but, this is Steve Perry's debut with the band and as far as I'm concerned, it's the best album that they'd put out. I wish people would give the other songs on the album a chance, they might be surprised at how good this album really is.
Journey's second album "Look Into The Future " is a great album ...
Well, I thought I'd come back and say, if you like those high notes that Perry makes then, on this same album there's a song "Something To Hide", believe me, the whole album really does showcase Steve Perry's vocal range.
Please react to "Send Her My Love" and "Only the Young" by Journey
Send her my love is beautiful !! Love all Journey !!
This song was played in every Bar on Okinawa when I was stationed there in the late 70’s and early 80’s, hearing this song always takes me back there !
Thank you for finally getting to this one ...one of my favorite Journey songs°! Perry's voice is really outstanding in this one !
When is it not outstanding? 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
ONE OF MY FAVORITE 😉👍
One of my favorite journey songs. Steve had some range in his voice.. I had the album this was on. I believe it's infinity. Check out Hopelessly In Love/party's over, and Feeling that way/anytime. These are two in one songs where the first rolls over into the second. Mother father is a good song too. And I love Walks like a Lady. It's an early bluesy song. Lovin' touchin squeezin is another early one. These songs are back when Greg Rollie sang in the group too all but maybe Mother Father.🤔 Journey is the best. Would love to see Steve back with them. This is their 50 TH anniversary tour and rumours we're going around Steve may make some appearances but I don't think so. I know Greg Rollie might. Greg did lead vocals when Neil Schon was in Santana with him.
Y'all are so cute together and so much fun to watch. Love your comments and insights on all the music.
Oh yeah I’ve found it!!! I’ve been looking for this reaction. Wheel in the Sky is my favorite Journey song. Thank you so much for doing all these wonderful songs by so many artists.
Thanks for reacting to Journey. I have two favorite bands and Journey Is one of them. In case you want to know the B other it’s the amazing Bee Gees! Two of the best!
Love me some Journey! Stone In Love and Separate Ways are my favorites. hese guys are amazing live. There are several song performances on RUclips from a Houston show (of their best IMO) in 1980 or 81. If you like Journey, you should check them out.
Was very privileged to have seen them on this tour. Ahh, the 70s....
I've been biten by the Steve Perry bug, for over 40 years!!! And still loving him!!
Steve Perry nearly has a whistle note 😃 at the end of the guitar solo! 🤯 Easily 1 of the best performances in the Steve Perry era of Journey. 👌

From Songfacts:
According to the liner notes of Journey's Time3 compilation, this started out as a poem called "Wheels In My Mind" by Diane Valory, the wife of Journey bassist Ross Valory. Robert Fleischman, the band's first vocalist, wrote new lyrics, and guitarist Neal Schon wrote the melody on acoustic guitar in the back seat of a station wagon while the band was driving between shows. It's one of the more philosophical Journey songs, telling the story of man trying desperately to return to his home. The verse lyrics are rather opaque, but the chorus offers an accessible metaphor for how life goes on no matter our personal struggles.
This was the first Journey single with new lead vocalist Steve Perry, and not coincidentally, also their first single to chart.
The group released three album before Perry came on board. They sold modestly, but the group was not a singles band - they had more of a progressive rock sound with the vocals and lyrics secondary to the music. Perry brought them concise songs with big hooks, but he also delivered a signature vocal sound, first heard on "Wheel In The Sky." The song reached just #57 US, but this was long before Journey was established on pop radio. The next two Infinity singles, "Anytime" and the Perry co-write "Lights," also reached the lower half of the Hot 100. The group built on this success to become stadium rock superstars in the '80s.
This is one of Journey's most popular live songs, played at nearly every show in every iteration of the band (Steve Perry left in 1999).
My fav Journey song! Saw them three times in the 80’s. Amazing! Journey with the new guy is actually in concert right now about five miles down the street from me. 😊
I wore this cassette tape out in high school in 86 ! 🔥😎
From Steve Perry's first album with Journey. Compare this to the version on 'Captured', a live album. When Perry got back into the studio, he had so much more confidence after touring.
One of my favorite Journey songs ever. Many memories growing up with Journey. To me; Steve Perry (Journey), Freddy Mercury (Queen), and Brad Delp (Boston) had voices that we will never hear again - EVER!!! The 1970's and 1980's simply had the best music EVER!!!
The Wheel in the Sky is the Wheel of the Zodiac...Non stop. Great tune!
No it's the earth turning time passing by
Lol
Sweet and Simple is another great song
Journey was on the Midnight Special back in the day! They sang this song. Journey is awesome rock!
wheel in the sky is a metaphor for the sun and the moon, so the wheel in the sky turning refers to the days and nights going by despite everything else going on in life
Journey's Greatest hits CD is amazing!
Early stuff by journey is the best! I saw them 79-80 at the Academy of Music on E.14th street in NYC in August heat that place was so hot everyone was soaked by the end of the show but they rocked that place! Good ole days!❤
One of the songs written prior to Steve Perry joining Journey. Wheel in the Sky was derived from a poem written at the time by bassist Ross Valory's wife. The sing was originally sung by Journeys original vocalist Robert Fleishman. When Herbie Herbert invited Perry to meet the band and consider joining the group the first sing written by Perry abd schon was Patiently but Steve recorded When in the Sky as the first debut single released by Journey with Steve on vocals that charted as their first radio charting single in the Top 100.
4:15 in.... is that his voice ? wow !
That note at the 4-minute mark is Steve. You can see it on the live tapes.
Love this tune! If you get a chance, The Journey song, “Lovin Touchin Sqeezin” is worth a listen😉👍
I remember hearing this song on a bus while being transported back a few decades ago, when I was young and stupid. I hollered turn it up, and the guy did.
It seemed appropriate seeing I was going away for a while, for something I didn't do............I didn't run fast enough! LOL
Can’t help but sing along. One of my favs. 🎉😊
Was on guard duty in the motor pool in germany at night with snow falling and this song played in my mind....1978
When Asia turned her chair, I felt that. 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼❤️
Their live concert in 83' I believe in Houston Texas is a must watch!
Another great song to react to from Journey is. "Send Her My Love". A great song to listen to.
Saw them in concert twice..his voice is better live!!
If you want to hear Steve Perry at his best, "Why Can't This Night Go on Forever" is, IMHO, his absolute finest vocals.
That one is off the charts.
Journey NEVER fails! ❤
One of the guys that composed this, Robert Fleischman, stressed out my car speakers once while I was driving him to the airport. Something came on the radio he really liked & he pegged the volume. I dialed it back immediately & was like wo dude. Sorry he said, got carried away. no harm no foul. ;o)
This is a great song. It was written by Robert Fleischman who was the vocalist of the band right before Steve Perry joined. Neal Schon wrote the melody. Diane Valory, the wife of Journey's original bass player, Ross Valory, wrote a poem called Wheels in my Mind. Fleischman re-wrote the poem and changed the title. Fleischman left the band after being with them for only 4 to 5 months. The band didn't release the song until Steve Perry joined and it became his song.
I love your breakdowns and interpretations. Very well thought out and love Asia’s genuine and beautiful reaction! Steve Perry has probably the most controlled voice I’ve ever heard! Thanks guys!
Journey is a great band. Please listen to "Only The Young" and "Can't Tame The Lion" from them. Thanks yall.
If Journey was before your time it still surprises me reactors will miss his vocal solo along with Neal's guitar solo. It's so other worldly, I guess you have to see video of him singing it, but It's so worth seeing. Evidence of seeing, and hearing Steve's incredible vocal range is that now you feel it down to your soul ❤🎤🎶🔥🤩❤️
I'm so glad I found you channel you've made unbelievable choices! When this song came out I was like "okay this isn't going to be a bad band " but nah it was over after this .
It was Steve who said, the song is about touring and the "Wheel in the Sky" is the planes that take them to different cities and countries! He would not always know what city or country he was in!
My favorite of Journeys ,love from Virginia
BJ said it right. It Steve Perry and Journey. Steve Perry made journey successful, now they are struggling without him.
Asia's face says it all listening to Mr. Perry. Singers get it. Were a great band. Steve...peerless.
Feeling That Way with Anytime live Midnight Special. Journey
Please watch all live performances Steve knocks every performance out of the park
I'm with you, Asia .... Steve Perry all the way 😄 ❤
Did you catch Steve singing with the guitar? His voice went up with the high notes!!!
In the video you hear and see his extremely high range in tune with the guitar. He always said he felt one with Schon’s guitar. It’s true.
Ezekiel described God's presence as a wheel within a wheel within a wheel. As long as the wheel is spinning, God's still up there, looking for faith to bless
First song by Journey I remember hearing on the air waves as a kid. 👍
“Be Good to Yourself “is one of the best feel good songs!
Listen to Light's off of the same Album it is a beautiful Song TOO 😁
Steve Perry voice is Top Ten Up there with Elvis Freddy and so on The Great one's That voice just gives you goosebumps..First time I heard it was on. Record or 45 1986
I had kinda forgotten about this song until it was played in The Sopranos
Incredible song end lead singer!
One band I never got to see live. Regret it? YES!!! Thanks you guy's!!!😃🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I saw a music video recently that shocked me by how unique and incredible it was. The artist is Ren Gill and the song is Hi Ren. In his late teens and early 20s he was too sick both physically and emotionally from undiagnosed Lyme disease to leave his bedroom. He suffered for years until finally the cause of his illness was discovered.
The lyrics to Hi Ren are insanely good and convey an inner dialog with himself. He sings as two different characters, his positive side and his negative side, and the performance is brilliant. He writes and does all his music videos independently. He’s not signed to any record label which makes what he does even more impressive. Please watch the video for yourself….you’ll be blown away!
Ren - Hi Ren
It's about being on the road, different city every day on and on and on
Did you hear Steve’s vocals with the guitar solo? You need to watch the video.
Awesome guitar riff from the first note!
My favorite Journey song
The earth is the wheel in the sky and it will keep on turning.
Journey has a song called, " Chain Reaction" great song, Steve Perry let's his voice go on that song
Next get to Lovin, Touchin, Sqeezin ....by Journey! Great song, another favorite of mine !!
I had the eight track back then
This is such a great song 💚
The wheel in the shy is a term for the passage of 1 year.
