    The Rest:
    1 - engine “options”
Sure you get three different power outputs
But no more V6 and no more diesel
The 2.7T is the only engine and all the way boosted up to 310hp and 430 lbft means real high compression and with all the knocking and shaking off-road I’d start to worry about durability
2 - trail boss looks cool but is really basic
    Cloth interior
    Hard plastic dash
    No rear seat center cupholder
    No LED headlights
So if you want the A/T tires and off-road kit you have to have a crap interior or fork up ZR2 money
    3 - no rock rails
I believe the ZR2 will come with them but neither the trailboss nor the Z71 come with rock sliders under the fenders
Of course you can option them as an accessory and you do get skids on the trail boss
    4 - the rear
There’s not a huge amount of room
    No charging ports
Some trims don’t even get a center armrest or cupholder
    No map pockets
    Under seat storage is there…kinda
    5 - the dash
We touched on this with the Trail boss thing but the WT and Trail boss literally just have a scratchy plastic dash
Maybe it’s for durability, maybe it’s easier to clean - but I’ve been off-roading enough times to know that a canvas wrapped dash or synthetic leather one would hold up fine enough
Also the steering wheel is plastic/rubber not leather
It just makes the whole interior feels cheap when the dash is this material - which is a shame because the rest of the interior is pretty nice…and speaking of which lets talk about the best things about this new Colorado
    -
    The Best:
    1 - the screens
Donning your dash behind your steering wheel is a segment exclusive 8 inch completely digital gauge cluster
The graphics are bright and crisp and you get some nice customizablity
    But it doesn’t stop there
You also get a 11.3 inch screen for your center infotainment
Again, you’re not getting that anywhere else in this segment.
I really like the system here as well the animations are quick and fluid and it feels like working your phone
And since it’s so good they’ve brought things like the headlight controls into the center screen
Which I’m not sure how I feel about quite yet
    But the screen is great
    2 - The look
These midsize trucks are getting more muscular and rugged looking and the Colorado builds on that
It’s angular and agressive and muscular
The track is wider (esp in trailboss and zr2)
Th wheelbase is 3.1 inches longer
    Trailboss has 2 inch lift
    ZR2 has 3 inch lift
    3 - the tailgate
GM and their tailgates man I swear…
HOWEVER, their multi pro tailgate in the Sierra was really nice
AND they’ve brought a nice little feature here too
The tailgate has a hidden compartment
    48 inches long
    4 inches deep
It doesn’t exactly lock so I wouldn’t put valuables in there, but it’s nice to have and makes use of space that would otherwise be wasted…reminds me of ram boxes but doesn’t eat into your bed space
    4 - towing
The Colorado in its base power output has a max towing capacity of 3500 lbs
BUT in the middle and top output your towing increases to 7700 lbs which isn’t too shabby!
There’s also several cameras and assists for hitching and trailering
    5 - Cameras
Not only are the cameras nice and bright and high resolution, but you get a lot of them!
You get 10 cameras for the 360 system
    They’re great resolution
And the Z71 and ZR2 get an extra camera underneath to help you pick your line in trail
    6 - ZR2 & Desert Boss
The incomignZR2 and Desert Boss are interesting additions to the segment
Of course the Colorado has offered and ZR2 for years and even a diesel ZR2 Bison
but now with the additional power, additional finesse and refinement it’s more compelling than ever
Will the Tacoma still sell more TRD Pros?
Probably. But that’s not because it’s a better truck…granted we haven’t been able to drive the ZR2 yet but based on this platform I expect some Toyota engineers to lose sleep…especially if the Taco is 2.4T only…
    7 - Price
We’re going to make another reference to the Tacoma as it’s the segment sales leader
The Colorado starts in WT trim at $30,650
And if you go on the Toyota website that’s about what you’ll pay for a base SR5
The difference being the Colorado is a more modern and better equipped truck…especially at that price

I can't believe how they messed up the back seat not folding down... some people actually use the shelf that used to be there on the older colorados... now you have to put your beer from the store on the seats... come on.. there isn't any storage room in the colorado at all... and some are saying the build is bad... as in the fender flairs are starting to fall off... maybe the 2024 will have things fixed.. if not might be looking at the Toyota

There should be a new rule when reviewing cars on RUclips…you can either complain about hard plastics, “cheap cloth,” etc, or you can complain about price. You can’t complain about both. You can’t expect to get both a plush vehicle and a good price.

@@vr4787 😂 Absolutely! But I think it’s the exception, rather than the rule, for hard plastics to outfit higher trims. That’s my assumption, anyways, when voicing my frustration. I really don’t even like the pricing of the “baser” trims, and have barely adapted to the notion that I could spend $40,000 and not get leather, etc. But, simply, it is what it is. The manufacturers got us all on a leash it seems, and there’s not much we can do about it…except stop buying at their costs. But, that ain’t gunna happen, clearly, because too many people insist on giving them what they want.

    1) There is no way to manually turn on or off the headlights or the door locks.
So if the battery dies, the hood is locked, how do you open the door locks, so you can open the hood, so you can charge the battery?
2)The V-6 and the Duramax Diesel that were available in the previous Colorado are no longer offered in 2023.
Which engine is more likely to run over 250,000 miles the 4-cylinder or the Duramax Diesel?

    • @diver165
      @diver165 6 месяцев назад

Sure you can turn off the headlights manually. There just isn't a physical headlight switch. Hit the headlight icon on the infotainment screen and turn the headlights off. I haven't turned the headlights on with a physical switch in probably 10yrs. Most cars and trucks have auto headlights anyways. It's nothing new. And you can unlock the doors if the battery is dead. The key fob has a emergency key that can be detached. There is a slot on the underside of the drivers door. Put that key in the slot and it will allow you to pop off the cover and expose the keyed lock on the door. Insert the emergency key into that lock to open the door.

We also had a 2020 Chevy suburban that it's AC went out and had the rear differential start making noises, we had major issues with three out of seven Chevy trucks. I just ordered a Trailboss for 2 reasons. I wont be able to order a ZR2 for possibly 5-6 months, and a well optioned ZR2 will hit $60K for a MID-SIZE pickup.... thats nuts man! My Trailboss ended up at $43K before tax, tags, destination, and dealer add-ons.

"it's tight, but I can fit back here..." Yeah, well, how big a boy are ya? I, for the life of me, can not understand why these car reviewers won't say how big they are so we can make a judgement about whether or not a vehicle would be big enough. I am 6'2" and almost 300 lbs. It is hard enough to find a vehicle that fits. You smaller guys and girls can all fit in my Silverado, but I can not fit in your Miata. Vehicle passenger size becomes more important when you are larger, that is what is important to us. Not whether or not the dash is "soft touch".

Another issue that you hinted to but didn't make the final connection with is due to forced induction and higher compression ratios this engine requires 91-93 octane. The 2023 Frontier has the same 310hp from a naturally aspirated V6, runs on regular unleaded, and because it doesn't have forced induction, is likely more reliable in the long term. With nearly a 55 cent/gal difference between regular and higher octane, the difference in fuel types means you'll spend about $10-11 more per fill-up with the Colorado.

    • @CWFL5
      @CWFL5 Год назад +2

It can run just fine on 87 and your v6 frontier doesn’t have 400+ torque.

    • @jeffissimo1221
      @jeffissimo1221 Год назад +1

@@CWFL5I don't own a Frontier, just pointing out the differences. However if you are running 87 in a turbo engine, you'll never reach that torque and hp value. Using lower octane fuel will require ignition retarding to prevent preignition thus reducing power and torque. In addition, the 4 cyl. needs to operate a higher total percentage of it's total work capacity. Another problem in modern turbo 4 cylinders is blow by. The use of thinner, lower viscosity engine oil in a high compression engine with loose fitting oil control rings means oil burn, dirty valves, carbon build-up, hot-spots, plug fouling, and eventually catalytic converter failure. Chevy has already had to deal with head gasket failures on this engine in the Silverado application.

    • @jrhackman7414
      @jrhackman7414 Год назад +1

That’s not correct, the GM engineer that helped build it said it was designed to run on regular unleaded. He said you can put higher octane in it but you’re wasting your money.

Oh, in 2026 all cars will be linked to the government via on board computers which means your insurance company will be spying on you and the police can remotely shut down your engine and the federal government will have no drive days to save the planet to where you need permission to start your car.
