41k for Hard plastic, no LED headlight or taillights no telescoping steering wheel, no seatbelt height adjustment. These truck companies are robbing the customer blind. Problem is we are letting them.
Tacoma at that price would have all of that, and would hold it’s value way more. This is what is so funny about all the reviewers praising other mid size trucks and it never holds true.
@@dpl2617 even if you spent over 40k on a truck? It's perfectly fine if you dont want leds but you can still recognize that Chevy is overcharging us for what this truck is.
It seems like the manufacturers are "forcing" you to pick higher trim levels just to get a few items that should be a relatively inexpensive option. I really like the look of the "floating roof".
I think that you forgot one thing on the negative side... the first issue you had with the truck. No Cruise Control. That still blows me away. I'd have thought that these days it was pretty much standard on all but the most stripped down trim levels.
He just missed checking one of the convenience packages. With Cruise you also get HD Surround (fender cameras), rear pedestrian alert/braking and the adaptive cruise. It's $950. I actually don't even care about the cruise control, but the surround camera's are pretty cool.
With the dimensions of full sized trucks getting so large, a “mid sized” truck with all this capability is a nice option. Thanks Andre, I love the content you created with this truck and I love the color.
@@walkworthy My son has the GMC version of Andre’s truck, I fit comfortably in the drivers seat at 6’4”, the people sitting in the second row though-RIP.
I've owned my 2023 Canyon AT 4 since June 4 and I'm absolutely loving it! No major issues so far either. Taking the truck on its first road trip from CA to Utah in a couple days.
over 10k (update, now 20k ) miles on my 23 trail boss, towing, off-roading, payload every weekend. Coming from 100k miles on the previous gen z71, the overall driving quality is vastly improved on the new Colorado. With the exception of some software bugs, it’s really a great truck.
@@TheKevinGee nothing that has been a huge issue. Mostly entertainment related. Data and xm radio, also since this comment I have over 20k on it now and not experiencing software bugs anymore. Chevy issued a software update that I think took care of the silly little things that were going on with the radio.
This is not an upper-trim level truck, like Andre stated, but dang are these manufacturers just cutting corners to save costs like crazy! Sometimes it's the small things that make the ownership experience a pleasant one.
Well yeah, it's essentially a work truck trim with some off-road stuff added on. Base model vehicles often have lots of cost cutting, if only to get people to pony up for higher end models where profit margins are much higher.
To get the small things, spend the big money and get them with the zr2. That way, those who don't need the fluff can't stick with less expensive trucks with the hardware only.
The sun visor thing is stupid. Wouldn't it just be easier to have all of them the same through the lineup? Manufacturers been doing this for years. Some don't have a mirror built in and some do lol.
@thomaswright3763 there is certainly nothing wrong with that. As long as you make your vehicles lay by taking care of them (regular maintenance and being a good driver) cars can last a long time. New cars can too. It's just that the majority of people abuse their cars and then complain they don't last. Driver is the reason more often than not.
13:14 The "part" is actually instructions and an authorization code that GM prints out and mails to the dealer, the dealer then has to talk the GM Tech Line with the auth code in order to download the tune to their scan tool so they can flash your computer. It's a bit convoluted, but that's how GM is doing it. Also, the instructions with the auth code say multiple times that the customer IS NOT TO BE CHARGED LABOR to install the tune. If your dealer tries to charge you labor to install the tune then ask to see the instructions with the auth code so you can point out to them where it says not to charge the customer and instead use a specific labor op code so GM will reimburse the dealer for the labor.
Maybe it's a GM thing? At least on their half-tons, new V8s can suddenly die at low mileage, AC compressors can suddenly die at low mileage. Maybe with a GM truck you need to check in at 6000 miles as "longterm"? It's a nice looking truck, at any rate.
The mid size trucks are basically like a full size truck from 20 plus years ago. I towed a 5800lb trailer 1500 miles in a 2011 RAM Dakota 3.7 V6. I got 11.21 mpg. I believe these small turbo 4 cylinder engines work really hard . The low mpg shows that.
I've been saying this for a while: turbo 4s in trucks are probably not going to have very good reliability or longevity, especially if you tow regularly. But hey, makes for a cute grocery-getter!
This turbo 4 was overbuilt from the ground up much like a diesel engine and shares some similar design concepts, I think you folks concern over the engine's longevity is overblown. If this was a off the shelf engine GM was throwing a turbo on it, yeah I might share your concerns. Bottom line, the key to longevity of any engine is proper maintenance, with turbo engines, this is even more important.
I test drove a 23 Colorado Z71 over the weekend, it's a nice Mid-size truck with a lot to offer, although i didn't like the seating position (similar to the Tacoma) even after making adjustments legs are too flat, seats are also too narrow not that comfortable, no grab handle on drivers side, back seating is too compact and no flat level floor, power seemed pretty good although i wasn't that impressed for being a turbo you have to go deep into the throttle to get it moving (my wife's CX-5 non turbo has better throttle response) Also the sound of the 4 Cylinder engine on start-up was enough for me to walk away initially!
It has great style, the only thing that would make it better was an EV option. A Colorado or Canyon EV would be the best truck in terms of reasonable size while still looking aggressive.
This is one of the best format of TFL videos out there because it shows the trials and tribulations we go through with these trucks/vehicles. When a manufacture provides a press vehicle I am sure they are double and triple checking it to make sure it doesn't trip up and do goofy things - however when you buy off the lot i am sure its not going through the same scrutiny as those press vehicles. Thanks TFL & Andre - keep it up. 👍
Probably would be a good show idea to search out an aftermarket solution to add cruise control. I'm sure you're not the only one who assumed that a truck that cost $41k would have it as standard equipment. My 2010 Tundra was a W/T edition that didn't have it but it was a very cheap and simple plug and play addition.
I mean, I can see if he thought it came with a rear locker, or something specialized. But for the love of Pete, cruise control? Cars have pretty much come standard with cruise control since the late 90's. Pretty much a crap move by G.M.@@cormaro13
Sort of like the first-year model Maverick XL. No cruise is even available from the factory, but you can buy the steering wheel switches from an Escape, and flip some bits in the ECM and you have factory cruise control. $70 all-in. Of course, the XL now comes with cruise, but the first year people have an easy path to it.
@@cormaro13 Short of an absolute base model stripped of even power windows what the hell doesn't come with cruise control now? No additional parts as everything down to the throttle is electric and all you need are a couple of extra buttons on the wheel, the rest is software.
Sounds and looks like a great truck, but I'd probably wait for the mid-cycle refresh in a couple of years, as the bugs will be worked out by then and you'll get a couple of extra features, along with a few design updates as well. Plus, they'll negotiate more on the price once the vehicle has been around for a few years. If you own that 1st couple of years of production, you are opening yourself up to a lot of headaches. Let others deal with the migraines I say. Vehicles are meant to be used and enjoyed, not cursed.
I got my F150 STOLEN from DIA in early June and unfortunately had to start looking for a new truck in this horribly expensive market. I ended up buying a '23 Trailboss much like yours based on some of your earlier videos and have loved it. I appreciate all the feedback and testing you have done and look forward to seeing more.
Put 43k miles on my '21 Ranger so far.. ONLY problem ive had is the Sync 3 is a little buggy. Ford Performance Tune since new, 3.5 lift, 285/70R17 AT tires. Runs/tows great.
My dad has same year Ranger with 50k no problems at all. I'm planning on buying it if he ever gets rid of it. How is the tune BTW? I hate the one I have on my Coyote Mustang and probably going to remove it.
@@302Mustang13 It's a very mild factory tune, 45 HP/65TQ. Not a race tune by any means, but the tuner let me recalibrate the speedo for my bigger tires and lets me read/clear any codes. I'm happy with it, truck has plenty of power.
@@Someonehad2sayit I meant do you notice a difference in the butt dyno? I don't notice much difference with mine on my Coyote Mustang unless I'm about half throttle and more. I have driven a 7.3 Powerstroke diesel with a mild tune and it made a huge difference. Tunes in my opinion are better on boosted vehicles.
@@302Mustang13 I noticed a small improvement, it's just not a race tune.. the Ford Performance tune is actually warranty safe tune, so it's not radical. I hear Livernois makes a really good one tho.
Maybe you should give the truck a really deep clean and apply some ceramic coating to it like you did with the ZR2 . That might make it easier to get the mud off.
Roof looks nice it gives it a different profile, I know it’s a sore topic but you forgot about no cruise control, at this price you should get this feature as standard equipment
He firebug about it but as you can see with all the tests, it's something he doesn't miss and he can do everything he needs without it. I would want it but again, creature comfort. It's amazing to see the soft men can't let it drop.
@@elche1976 it’s an ongoing joke with Andrey about the feature that’s all, it’s not about being soft, it’s just unheard of on a vehicle that’s 41k when you can get this feature in an econo box these days

@@elche1976 it’s not that I’m nagging on Andrey it’s just a comment on how prices of these vehicles have skyrocketed and manufactures are taking away some of the features that have become standard equipment for the past years, I’m all about having a truck with just the lockers and off road stuff and they can take away all the screens and creature comfort’s but reflect it on the price, if people want to pay top dollar for a vehicle that lacks what we would consider standard now a days, go ahead, I’m just having my point of view, not to make Andrey feel bad, it’s for the manufacturer to see since TFL is important enough for Car company’s to see and they can address it.
I have the 2023 Chevy Colorado LT with the 2.7 Turbo Plus and its loaded down with Options. It cost me $41K, plus I had the bed sprayed with a lifetime coating, had the GM mud flaps and weather mats installed, wide chrome side steps installed, and the truck rust-proofed for Pennsylvania driving. I have only 1,159 miles on the truck and I owned it 8 months. The truck doesn't have the fender moldings, but I had them on previous vehicles and dislike them because of the upkeep and in our region rust generates beneath them. You have a nice off road truck and yes you got your moneys worth. The color of my truck is Radiant Red, and I never expected getting so many compliments on it as I am. I really enjoy my truck I'm glad to have picked a Colorado over a Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma. On occasions one of these trucks park along side me at the market where I can made a visual comparison. Yeah, I feel I made the right choice.
Like the black. I believe it makes the color pop. 11,174 miles on my trail boss with zero issues. Apple car play is a little wonky at times but seems as it has been working the past month with zero issues. I drive about 110 miles round trip to work so time will tell more. Keep truckin!
I'm about to have 13k on my Colorado Trailboss. So far, it's been a gem! The only thing that occasionally has hiccups is that it doesn't connect to my phone, so I'll have to turn the truck on and off a couple of times. Now, let's get to the crazy part. I have been getting crazy good gas mileage, and I also have to MT tires! Long distance trips I have achieved 24.5 mpg with 420 miles on the tank and 80 left in the tank. But if you step into it a lot, you'll do 15-20, which again isn't bad. Peace! ✌️
I was a diehard Chevy guy until 2013 when a Chevy dealership screwed me on a repair of my 2006 Silverado. The next weekend, I traded it for a RAM 1500 and never looked back. But Chevy did a really good job on this the new Colorado. Once my RAM 1500 finally dies, I may actually buy the new Colorado. But I'll never trade my Cummins for the Duramax.
Hello Andre’ once again my friend a fantastic video. I own a 2019 Colorado CCSB 4x4 WT, I had added Bilstein 5100’s all around and leveled out with 2” front lift. I used to own a Grey Wolf 24 JS, that weighted about 5,600 lbs, certified at 10,250 lbs. CGVW on a Cat Scale. The lifetime average for the truck now at 44,000 miles is 18 mpg average. That’s mostly around central Florida with my 240 lbs scooter in the bed. The average I used to get with that trailer was 10.6 mpg, while easily maintaining the speed limits on all grades. All along the east coast inland to Pigeon Forge, TN in The Smokey Mountains.
Mechanically I love my 23 Colorado. Did the online build and ordered it with more options than yours as well as the engine upgrade to 430 ftlb of torque. After 2K miles had a software glitch and the radio screen went out, and almost everything is controlled through that screen. Took it to dealer and 3-1/2 weeks later still no part available. Chevy actually offered to do a buy back because they had no idea when the part would be available. The tech dept. at GM finally sent software to fix the glitch so I got it back but it still has small glitches now and then. Other than that and the serious lack of storage inside it is fun to drive and runs great.
My 2016 Colorado doesn’t have much inside storage either. I traded a 2005 Ram 1500 with a standard cab. Had more storage in that than my Colorado with the extended cab.
Your continual reviews & relaying real life conditions & info on the Colorado’s quirks for this truck are extremely helpful as I’m in market for the Colorado or the upcoming Tacoma. The concern/pain point Issue in my decision is that we tow a travel trailer 4800 lbs empty, probably 6.000 lbs loaded, (currently with my 17 Colorado Duramax, up hill a little week, exhaust brake capability downhill is superb) I like a midsize over full size for everyday use although full size more sense for the towing. The Trail Boss fits for the most part but the things missing that GM did not offer as options is absurd, as you point out it seems for $1000 or so more they could offer features not available . I love the ZR- in many ways but towing is reduced. I have a bit more confidence in the Tacoma (had a 13 never has ANY issue other than weak towing). My Colorado had some issues specifically with engine totally shutting down while driving a scary experience within first 5,000 miles that after 3 trips to dealer resolved & has not occurred since with my current mileage of 51K but was frustrating as hell. The new Tacoma rated at 6500 towing thus my concern a bit close to max on what I tow. As strong & reliable as Toyota’s tend to be perhaps I would be ok? Seems unclear when the Tacoma will be available, a dealer advised me the still had over 125 incoming current models arriving. I’m in Colorado as well so our towing is much at high elevation that effects towing capabilities. Tough decision.
The floating roof look seems incomplete without the front two windows being tinted to match the back windows. Get them done and the floating roof look will be awesome and really stand out.
I have the LT with all three convince packages, advanced trailering, advanced technology etc. I loved my 19 and love this one more. My complaints are the rear seat no longer folds down and the fog light control is way too hard to get to while driving.
I have the 271 in nitro yellow and I absolutely love my truck. I went from a silverado the the Colorado and size hasn't bothered me. I ordered the truck with everything except for under body cameras. I don't go off road or haul alot but it is fun to drive.
Its a nice truck Andre! Love the wrap. Its a big improvement from the basic spec 2011 that I drove a while back. It was a very solid and capable truck but unfortunately yours seems to have two of the same issue that I had with the 2011. The backup camera, and the display would fritz out occasionally, sometimes the backup camera would just stay on while driving - that was always fun. I had to pull the fuse every once in a while and reset them. Hopefully GM fixed the other annoying issue I had with the EBCM that you fortunately havent experienced yet. The EBCM had a design flaw, it was mounted to the side of the frame rail on the driver side with the brake lines bent in such a way that they drained water down into the EBCM every time it rained resulting in the dash lighting up like a Christmas tree. Dealer said the solution was to pack it with dielectric grease, frequently. I tried to file a request with GM as it was really a safety issue as it disabled the ABS and traction control (when you need it most) but they just ignored me. I spent many days under my truck with the wife's hairdryer, drying it out. I finally got so fed up with the electrical gremlins that I wrapped the EBCM in a trash bag and electrical tape and traded it in at 45k miles. I am hoping they fixed it on the new model. Just a heads-up... don't go to deep when you launch your boat! Good Luck - keep up the great videos!
Why didn't you talk about the differences between your F150. You went from a full side pickup to a midsize pickup, do you miss the space. What is the difference in gas mileage between the two? Which truck tows your boat better? What costs saving with the Trail Boss?
The black-out on the pillars looks really good, especially with that Nitro Yellow. I have the ZR2 now for about 3 weeks. Had two issues so far: 1st, the child safety switch on one of the doors was jammed in "lock" position so you couldn't get out if you were a passenger (currently fixed by dealership). 2nd, the volume control for radio stopped working. Restarting truck corrected it. Notified dealership, and there was an update for the system, and so far, it hasn't happened again. One nit pick I have with truck is that the fuel door doesn't lock. And since it is cap-less, anyone can easily siphon fuel out. Loving the truck tho.
Do you have any concerns about the turbo going out and the cost of replacement? We also have a 2019 Starcraft 20' deck boat that we trailer about 80 miles to the lake. Currently we have a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport that does the job but it would be nice to have a little more towing power. I do like the Chevy brand but concerned about turbo 4 cylinders.
I found runs in the paint on my new Colorado. Ended up having the bed side repainted. It’s been in the shop over two weeks now. Needless to say I’m not very happy about it.
@avalanche3084 I don't own anything American 😂 I got tired of the low quality and got Japanese, I'm just letting people know low quality awaits them lol
@@cormaro13 I've never had any issues worth mentioning with Ford vehicles. That one Mitsubishi vehicle I bought though was a piece of garbage. Threw that thing away after only 1 year.
I really thought you were going to say you wish you had bought the colorado zr2. I really wish chevy would redesign the rear seats so they fold completely down with a table top. Also wish more rear wall and floor storage.
This is very interesting to me Andre. Have been wondering how this Colorado would perform. This summer I towed my 25' travel trailer in and around the Mountains with my 2022 full size ZR2 with the 6.2 engine and got similar MPG to your Colorado when you are towing. My trailer is an older 2007 model and far from aerodynamic in the front. I use a Reese equalizer hitch with 1,000 lbs tow bars. I scaled the truck and trailer at a scale near us just after departing and it weighed 14,890 lbs combined. After filling it up with gas it would be very close to the max 15,000 lbs GCWR of the truck. Here in Southern Alberta Canada we drive in similar terrain and elevations that you do in Colorado. Part of the drive on that camping trip involved slow going off road trail towing in low range using the lockers at times and the truck didn't disappoint. The DSSV shocks in the truck are fantastic on and off road and the truck has plenty of power to do the job. The full size Silverado ZR2 videos you did back when TFL owned one influenced me to buy the truck. Mine is also sand dune metallic in color and it always looks clean even when I don't wash it for a month. Have almost 20,000 kms on it now and am very happy with it so far. Did a recent 2500 km trip with it not towing and it got great fuel economy. I often see fuel economy in the 11-12 litres per 100 km range (19.5 to 21.5 MPG) on the highway and the best on that trip was 9.8 over a 40 km stretch which translates to around 24 MPG. I have been considering getting the Colorado or maybe a diesel version of the ZR2 but after watching a few videos I think for now I will keep what I have. Best part about my 2022 Silverado ZR2 has to be the excellent ride quality the Multimatic DSSV shocks provide along with the performance of the 6.2 engine and 10 speed transmission. Roman's comment when he said "this truck goes wherever you point it" resonates in my mind at times when I am driving it. You and TFL have come a long way Andre keep up the great work!
Suggest getting the front windows tinted as dark as possibly to help complete the floating roof look. I may have to do that to mine. I don't have anywhere near as many miles as you do being that I've only had mine for a month. Great review btw
Great review. Im looking to get one next year when my current lease is up. Everyone complaining about $40k. $40k is the new $20k. Everything is up. 5 years ago yea $40k would be absurd but it's the times we're in. Hopefully things get better soon. Make car prices great again! 🇺🇸
Love how dealerships say “bring it on in!” When they know they can’t do anything with the issue at the time. Have that with a recall on my Xterra. Twice they said bring it in for recall service when Nissan has announced there is not a solution yet.
I've had my '23 Colorado LT for a little over two months and have about 2400 miles on the odometer. My highest mpg is currently 26.7 and I've hovered in the 25s quite a bit....not driving like an old person either.
Didn’t notice the blackout treatment. Using premium fuel in your truck which only requires 87 is just a waste of money. It’s been proven for years. Enjoy your truck.
My Malibu with 1.5T engine that literally melted a piston at 80k miles, most likely with this being a contributing factor, would like to beg to differ with this statement.
@@a2xd94 Just Google It. Consumer Reports stated it was a myth. Your car would have used it. Turbos usually use Premium, but not in the Colorado / Canyon.
Most manufactures list in the owners manual the added performance that can be obtained running premium fuel especially while towing a heavy trailer, HD trucks are built with heavy cast iron blocks & components for durability because they know most folks will be burning the cheaper gasoline!
@@martyi398 HD trucks are usually naturally aspirated gasoline engines or generally heavy-duty diesel engines. Neither of which have issues with pre-detonation, which is definitely not the case with turbocharged engines. Even with advanced ECUs of today, crappy gas can eventually rear its ugly head. Even if the ECU lets a small amount of pre-detonation occur, it could be enough to ruin the engine.
Andre, please address how you intend to add cruise control to your truck. Dealer? After market? Addresses the question: how do you add options that were forgotten without having to buy another truck.
You'll probably have to get the dealer to install it or a really good aftermarket place cause they have to wire in a few things to make it work with the car
I have a 2023 Z71 and it is great so far. I do have a couple of issues that are related to software. One is I get a very loud "Pop" the first time I use the turn signal after an engine start. It is coming through the infotainment speakers. The second is that sometimes my Sirius radio will say "Loading" forever unless I stop and restart the truck. I also had the loose fuse issue that is easily corrected and the right side windshield trim piece that doesn't fit properly. I believe everyone has that trim issue and it looks like it is a manufacturing error. I like the pep and ease of driving this over my old GMC Sierra. BTW, this truck is so much easier to park than my old truck.
I bought a Silverado HD (diesel) in spring for my landscape business. Lots of heavy towing ans hauling. Juat reached 20000K. Not a single issue. I get its not long term but so far so good. Really happy with it and has been making me some good $$ since i can tow more than my half ton work trucks of course.
To see the 3 year old kid playing with his 2 month old puppy behind the rear bumper. Or do you have X-ray eyes and see through the tailgate? The “truck that size” is actually a full size truck size from ten years ago.

I had a 2016 Chevy Colardo 4x4 LT 3.6 Auto. Had issues with both rear axle leaking before 10k miles. Fixed under warranty. Then the stereo/navigation started blinking on and off randomly. Again, fixed under warranty. Transmission shuddering. Dealer could not fix it after several TSB updates. Finally bought a programmer. The programmer was able to completely eliminate the shifting issue. At 35k miles rear axle leaking again, got it fixed and sold it 35,900 miles. Went back to a Tacoma. Bought a 2019 Tacoma TRD Offroad. Just turned 60k miles 9/7/23. Zero issues, no leaks, nothing but basic maintenance.
I like the C pillar wrap Mr. Truck makes you stand out from the crowd! I plan on purchasing a ZR2 Colorado your video's and ownership have helped me tons thank you and keep up the great work you should body color match the fender flares!
As an owner of the new Canyon. The carplay delays on the infotainment really only seems to happen when the phone is on low power mode. I have a feeling that may be the case for you as well because in the video it's working smoothly and your phone is fully charged. I think that might be what your experiencing as well. I've also had issues with my digital gauge cluster freezing completely while driving. GM is aware of these issues with these models and it's still something they clearly struggle with as it's been reprogrammed 3 separate times now. So far so good now and absolutely love the truck; however, it is discouraging to run into continuous programming issues so early in it's lifecycle. Nice truck and appreciate your insights into your ownership experience
I would say 22 mpg is an amazing result out of the 4cyl... But my 2019 v6 got 22 mpg this past summer on a 400 mile round trip. At the end of the day, how it's driven is much more important than mechanical efficiency it seems.
@svpracer My ‘18 f150 TT v6 got between 24 and 26 mpg, with an avg speed of 73-80mph, on a 3000 mi trip last spring, hand calculated. I am extremely satisfied with those numbers
My 2016 Colorado Z71 has 89k miles and is going strong. After almost 8 years of ownership, I’m happy overall with it. It’s been a reliable daily driver and the v6 on the highway is efficient getting me well over 400 miles per tank.
My main hang up on this is the G80. If you can spec a real electronic locker in a Ford for a couple hundred bucks, GM should be including one in their off road trucks.
I had a 2002 Sonoma with a factory rear locker. I was driving 70 KPH in the winter on a straight road and it suddenly went into a spin. I spun around 2 or 3 times before the truck hit a snowbank and stopped. The problem with an automatic locker is that you can't turn it off and when one tire is on ice or you are going around a corner in the rain the ass end kicks out and you are sideways or spinning before you realize what's happening.
Mid-size towing will always sacrifice range, unfortunately, which is why full size is more appropriate for more frequent towing as you mention. What I’m surprised by is the terrible mixed mileage at 20mpg, especially if you’re chucking 91 octane premium into that “affordable” truck! I have a similar mix of driving/towing/light off-roading in an old, worn out Gen 1 V6 Honda Ridgeline and get pretty much that same mileage. What’s the advantage to these turbo’d 4’s if they aren’t giving better fuel economy at the end of the day?
I have a 22 Silverado HD high country and my only real complaints are also software related. Screen randomly blacked out a few times. Power steps not deploying. Small but annoying little things. Gm needs to pick up their quality control on software.
I'm a Ford guy myself but I love your truck. And in today's prices I think you did pretty good at 41G's. Thanks for the update. But what's funny is in 1978 a full size Dodge was rated by the EPA at 23-25 mpg.
My 2008 F150XL with the 4.2 V6 doesn't get that, anywhere close to that. And my truck is about as bare bones as anyone could get. The only 2 options it has are A/C & a radio. 4.2 V6 with a 5 speed manual is on average 17.5 mpg.
I have a 2018 Colorado ZR2 with 50K miles. It has the 3.6 V6 engine and 8 speed. I have not had any issues with the power train. The transmission was flushed and refilled under warranty and has worked fine for me. I find the gas mileage differences between your 2.7 turbo 4 and my V6 interesting. I get 18.5 mpg combined city, highway, whatever. The best mpg I have seen for highway trips that are mostly flat is 21 to 22. So, the two engines have the same peak horsepower output, the 2.7 turbo makes roughly 100 lb. ft. more torque. It would be interesting to see how the two engines feel under various conditions, for example passing on two lane roads when you need more top end pull and responsiveness when low speed off roading. Thanks for sharing your experiences with your new Colorado.
I have a 2022 updated SIERRA. happy with the truck but compared to my 2014 sierra its missing a few things: no 12v plug, no coin storage on the bottom dash, no light up vanity mirrors, no oh shit handles but does have the ones on the pillars, no trailer brake. Mind you, my old one was a SLE and this one an elevation that had an MSRP of 58k but only paid 54k.
GM made a mistake by getting rid of the baby diesel for those trucks I would not buy one of those trucks I would stay with a full size so you are saying not to buy it that the tech in the truck is junk
Great honest review Andre. Really enjoyed it. I am hoping Ford's 2025 Ranger might be available with 2.7 in a crew cab with 6 foot bed. Having said that we have ford half tons with 3.5 and v8 and leased a ford with 2.7 and a newer cvevy with 5.3 and all of those trucks get better mpgs than your mid-size. For towing range and mpgs and rear passenger comfort half tons are better right? . Especially ford with 36 gallon tank option and HDPP. NOTHING cones close to it for hauling a load. But i miss my mid size truck for every day use. Just waiting for ford and Chevy to offer more bed options.
I have a 2019 Colorado Z71 crew 4x4 V6 with the short box. In my daily flat Michigan driving on summer fuel, I typically average about 19.5 mpg with a 90/10 city/highway mix. I just returned from a 5,400-mile trip to the West Coast where, according to the truck computer, I averaged a hair over 22 mpg for the entire trip. The best segment was 29.9 mpg. My truck has Bose, the trailer brake controller and a couple of other minor options. It's also the only model year, IIRC, where GM included dual power front seats with power lumbar and heat. The sun visors slide to shield my eyes from the sun, too. It stickered for a bit over $38k. It's been a great truck and I would not part with it for the latest gen Colorado.
Just out of curiosity, Andre , do the sun visors slide outward on the bows? Pop the visor free from the keeper and try sliding it away from the mount. Hope it works that way for you. It would be ridiculous that a higher trim level would be required to access a simple safety and convenience feature.
I just got my 2024 271 colorado for just over a wk now, this review help me:. My only wish is the reverse camera will get fix too and more storage.. the backseat wont even go down.
Great update, thanks. And I too really like the floating roof. I'm curious on your thoughts on halogens instead of LEDs. I had halogens on my 20 Tacoma TRD Off-Road and hated them--just not bright enough (compared to, say, my VW GTI or even my wife's Honda CR-V). That could be a deal breaker for me (well, that and all the software glitches, which I hate about my GTI too). Thoughts?
You added black vertical covers to your doors, by the side windows. I know because I have the same color truck and I want to add those too. I also just got my truck tuned this week to the HO calibration, and it does make a difference in drive ability. Order it from Chevy accessories directly and ship it to your dealer. The dealer will get a packet that will allow them to do the calibration. I was also not charged for instal and it was included in there $395 price. I want to see how it handles a 12’ hay trailer with 3k lbs of hay.
With the performance upgrade accessory it is just programming. Your dealer needs to call technical assistance and they will add the update to the Vin then the dealer needs to reprogram the engine control module. I work at a chevy store and I've had to do it.
In 2022, my 2016 GMC Canyon oil pump failed at less than 65,000 miles. I bought it new. It has the four cylinder. I couldn’t get a straight answer what made it fail. I changed the oil every 5,000 miles, but it did. I pull a small trailer with a zero turn. The cost was over $7,000 to get it repaired. It’s worked well since. I drove it to South Florida this fall from Kentucky and it got 25 mpg. I am not sure I would buy another one today.
Hey Andre, does your passenger sun visor have a light? All my Silverados have had a light for when my wife does her make up. The LT silverados does not come with any lights in the sun visors.
i appreciate going over some these details because over time after the “honeymoon phase” of a new truck / car problems pop up that we only think of in nightmares. until it happens to us. i wanted a chevy colorado but comparing prices with the canyon and certain features im dead set on the 2023 Canyon Elev. or AT4 but idk if the canyon has the same issues like this chevy does? i currently own a GMC terrain AT4 and i’ve only had wiresless apple connection issues where the phone is mirrored on the infotainment but the audio is coming from the phone speaker :/ once in a blue moon it happens
My 2022 Colorado Z71 Diesel has been flawless so far, but I only have 9k miles on it. AND I have CC/heated seats/Nav/hd tow pkg/ and it's still bone stock and will remain so unless the next owner wants to lift it etc. Mpg's are awesome - high 30's on the hwy, low 20's around town/stop and go stuff. My wife and I ordered a new 2024 Ford Explorer Timberline this past november. Just waiting on delivery which should be sometime this week ;}>
I have a 2016 Z71 with a 3.6 litre v6. It has 78,000 and the only issue I had was a new purge valve which I replaced myself. I can't justify trading up. I think I'll keep what I have.
May I asked what the exact setup of this Truck is? I am deeply looking to buy one and struggle a bit with the packages I should get and which one are not.
41k for Hard plastic, no LED headlight or taillights no telescoping steering wheel, no seatbelt height adjustment. These truck companies are robbing the customer blind. Problem is we are letting them.
Don't forget about no cruise control.
Tacoma at that price would have all of that, and would hold it’s value way more. This is what is so funny about all the reviewers praising other mid size trucks and it never holds true.
The last thing I would want are those ridiculously expensive LED headlights & taillights.
@@dpl2617 even if you spent over 40k on a truck? It's perfectly fine if you dont want leds but you can still recognize that Chevy is overcharging us for what this truck is.
@@LordWinter That is an accurate statement for every new truck on the market...
The biggest slap in the face with this truck and price paid is no cruise control 😂
It has cruise
@@tommyrich4156 um... Andre states that his truck does not have it. Maybe watch more of FTL and find out for yourself.
I think it should be standard on every vehicle to have cruise control shouldn’t be an option
It has to have cruise. I bet he means it doesn't have adaptive cruise.
I agree...have not seen one without. BTW I think ACC sucks anyway. Good way to get in a wreck!
It seems like the manufacturers are "forcing" you to pick higher trim levels just to get a few items that should be a relatively inexpensive option. I really like the look of the "floating roof".
If you’re patient you can order whatever. And the stock also depends on what the dealer orders, they can add most options to any trim
They are doing exactly that, advertising great deals on the basic model and after adding a few options it's not worth it.
I think that you forgot one thing on the negative side... the first issue you had with the truck. No Cruise Control. That still blows me away. I'd have thought that these days it was pretty much standard on all but the most stripped down trim levels.
you serious, Clark? That's ridiculous. Would be a total deal breaker if I was in the market. I use cruise daily.
Cruise control is awfully nice if your right knee gets jacked up too, let me tell ya.
He just missed checking one of the convenience packages. With Cruise you also get HD Surround (fender cameras), rear pedestrian alert/braking and the adaptive cruise. It's $950. I actually don't even care about the cruise control, but the surround camera's are pretty cool.
Cruise control is all electronic these days. It costs the manufacturer almost nothing to have a button to tell the computer “hold this speed”
@@Reparo96 It's adaptive. It doesn't just hold speed, it monitors lane position and gives a warning on windshield, then auto brakes if necessary.
With the dimensions of full sized trucks getting so large, a “mid sized” truck with all this capability is a nice option. Thanks Andre, I love the content you created with this truck and I love the color.

What software bugs are you referring to? I’m currently in the market and was leaning towards a 24 z71.
Some don't have a mirror built in and some do lol.
cars since 2022. prices up , quality control down , more corners cut. i will not buy this new garbage that is coming out
@thomaswright3763 there is certainly nothing wrong with that.
Good luck keeping dealers honest. Even GM knows most they can’t be trusted.
6000 miles isnt even remotely long term
Maybe it's a GM thing? At least on their half-tons, new V8s can suddenly die at low mileage, AC compressors can suddenly die at low mileage. Maybe with a GM truck you need to check in at 6000 miles as "longterm"? It's a nice looking truck, at any rate.
Most people like Doug only test vehicles for like 1 hour so 6000 miles is much longer than that
I totally agree!
Come test my 2015 RAM 2500 6.4 with 130,000 miles on the clock. That is long term.
@liamrobinson2084 how about the heavy duty V8? The 6.6L. I belive its a better engine with less issues than the 1/2 tons
It’s all about thermodynamic efficiency not so much mpg. That’s why a lot of manufacturers are doing turbo 4’s
This 4 cylinder is pretty overbuilt from what ive read
This turbo 4 was overbuilt from the ground up much like a diesel engine and shares some similar design concepts, I think you folks concern over the engine's longevity is overblown. If this was a off the shelf engine GM was throwing a turbo on it, yeah I might share your concerns. Bottom line, the key to longevity of any engine is proper maintenance, with turbo engines, this is even more important.
@@vashstampede5933 some folks will always complain saying something won’t last-even tho they don’t own one
The floating roof is a very slick look. It's not flashy but it adds some nice subtle style. 👍
It has great style, the only thing that would make it better was an EV option. A Colorado or Canyon EV would be the best truck in terms of reasonable size while still looking aggressive.

This is one of the best format of TFL videos out there because it shows the trials and tribulations we go through with these trucks/vehicles.
If u can't read the paper with all the features then that's on u lol

Doesn't mean you can't get an aftermarket upgrade. Some Maverick XL owners where able to install cruise control. @@cormaro13
I agree, it will also help with the sun in your face issue.

The wrap makes your truck look MORE Aggressive!! Looks Awesome!! I noticed it right away!! Great Job!! Cool idea also. 😊
Andre you're a good man. I appreciate you.
Do you have any concerns about the turbo going out and the cost of replacement? We also have a 2019 Starcraft 20' deck boat that we trailer about 80 miles to the lake.
I’m sorry but for a $41k truck you should get cruise control in 2023. This is absolutely ridiculous.
He ordered it without it lol. Everyone that has been on the lot, Has it cruise control.
Suggest getting the front windows tinted as dark as possibly to help complete the floating roof look. I may have to do that to mine. I don't have anywhere near as many miles as you do being that I've only had mine for a month. Great review btw
the fuel economy is impressive.if its still operating just as well at 200k i'll be very impressed.good luck andre.
Great review. Im looking to get one next year when my current lease is up. Everyone complaining about $40k. $40k is the new $20k. Everything is up. 5 years ago yea $40k would be absurd but it's the times we're in. Hopefully things get better soon. Make car prices great again! 🇺🇸
I think its a nice truck. GM watches your reviews and probably working on the software. Looking fwd to your next review.
Love how dealerships say “bring it on in!” When they know they can’t do anything with the issue at the time. Have that with a recall on my Xterra. Twice they said bring it in for recall service when Nissan has announced there is not a solution yet.
That wrap is awesome. The truck is looking so much better
@@martyi398 Yes that’s true. You may gain a bit of power.
Opted to go for the 23 Ranger Tremor and im EXTREMELY happy. Thanks for the videos Andre
GM Please make a software update to add the fog light control in the lighting shortcut.
The "cost saving" non-sliding sun visors is beyond ridiculous. I consider this a safety issue along with the non-functioning backup/rear camera.
on a truck of that size, why do you need a backup camera?
To see the 3 year old kid playing with his 2 month old puppy behind the rear bumper. Or do you have X-ray eyes and see through the tailgate? The “truck that size” is actually a full size truck size from ten years ago.
Thank you Andre love it your new Colorado I live in Kapuskasing GMC have being Testing Trucks and Cars here over 30 Years very Cold here I saw the New Electric ( Corvette 2 Years in the snow and very cold days - 40 below no cold smoke in the back ( ty Ron )
5 months is a really short time, i hope your truck still healthy in 4 years to start talking about reliability, i love chevy brand, i actually own 3 silverados myself, 11, 13 and 14, i would love to know new ones still well made vehicles. Best vibes
4 years!!! Andre probably already traded it in on something else.
At higher elevations, with the air being less dense, you can use lower octane gas just fine. No need to run 91 octane.
No reason to run high octane at lower els either.
@@Dusdaddywhy’s that?
@@deluxeg Because that 2.7 was specifically designed to run on 87. High octane will only waste money.
I like the C pillar wrap Mr. Truck makes you stand out from the crowd! I plan on purchasing a ZR2 Colorado your video's and ownership have helped me tons thank you and keep up the great work you should body color match the fender flares!
One oil change since new? Definitely not long term.
Getting 22mpg is a minor miracle in my Tacoma v6
@svpracer
My ‘18 f150 TT v6 got between 24 and 26 mpg, with an avg speed of 73-80mph, on a 3000 mi trip last spring, hand calculated.
I don't know. The G80 has a pretty good rep for durability. Why not just stick with what works well?
@@Dusdaddy Because the G80 isn’t smooth and when your actually needing a locker while rock crawling not being smooth can lead to bad things happening.
@@thinde88 Won't argue but the G80 is much smoother than a Detroit locker and I will never remove that from my CJ.
Yeah maybe with a bare bones short bed with a slant 6 engine but definitely not a V8.
Yeah, I can't believe G.M. is ending the 3.6 just when they perfected it and made it a long lasting reliable engine....figures..
Wow your 100mile loop is the same as my avg mpg on my frontier sv 2015 lol
I love this truck and how good it has been for you but no cruise control and visors that don't slide is a non-starter for me. Great video.
There's no way it doesn't have cruise control. It's 2023...
@@arubial1229,
It’s part of an option group not on the vehicle he bought. They talk about it on the channel.
@@slyguyaction That’s asinine, honestly it’s unbelievable.
Maybe the upgrade will add cruse control!
Agree 100%
Just towed 250 miles last weekend with a Kayak and camping gear for a weekend in our 2.8 Duramax. 34.4 mpg.
@@coachvonyo it’s almost like they don’t want good mileage for consumers
Isn't the 3.0L diesel duramax what you're looking for? I think they're making them still
Love the floating roof idea 👍👍 let's see that motor turn about 150k and I might gain interest in it.
Actually, $41,000 is an great deal for a nice pickup truck like this. Chevy is doing a great job with the Colorado
Let's go 2024 Ford ranger
Yes 👍
The Ranger Raptor
16:45 would you buy this same
truck again? Would you save a bit longer to get something else? Was the $41,000 OTD?
In 2022, my 2016 GMC Canyon oil pump failed at less than 65,000 miles. I bought it new. It has the four cylinder. I couldn’t get a straight answer what made it fail. I changed the oil every 5,000 miles, but it did. I pull a small trailer with a zero turn. The cost was over $7,000 to get it repaired. It’s worked well since. I drove it to South Florida this fall from Kentucky and it got 25 mpg. I am not sure I would buy another one today.
Andre, just ordered my Colorado trail boss with same tires. Should be ready in roughly couple months. I ordered a 2023 in dark green.
Hey Andre, does your passenger sun visor have a light? All my Silverados have had a light for when my wife does her make up. The LT silverados does not come with any lights in the sun visors.
Had exact same scrape on the rear bumper of my AT4 on what seemed to be a relatively benign downward slope
i appreciate going over some these details because over time after the “honeymoon phase” of a new truck / car problems pop up that we only think of in nightmares. until it happens to us. i wanted a chevy colorado but comparing prices with the canyon and certain features im dead set on the 2023 Canyon Elev. or AT4 but idk if the canyon has the same issues like this chevy does? i currently own a GMC terrain AT4 and i’ve only had wiresless apple connection issues where the phone is mirrored on the infotainment but the audio is coming from the phone speaker :/ once in a blue moon it happens
Thanks for sharing the 'Every Day Fuel Mileage' that you are getting with your Chevy Colorado, Andre...
Is it decent as a daily driver as well ?
I got the basic 2023 work edition Colorado with 2.7 plus engine. 19k miles in 6 months and runs like a champ and can tow any car without issues.
May I asked what the exact setup of this Truck is? I am deeply looking to buy one and struggle a bit with the packages I should get and which one are not.
$41,000.00 for such an awesome truck!? We can only dream of that in Germany.
