In 2016, I was looking at the Canyon and wanted heated mirrors and 18-inch rims but didn't want all the technology that came with the "SLT" trim package. I wanted to be able to pick options one at a time instead of being bundled with junk I don't want or need. If I am paying for something, then I should get 100% of what I want, not 90% or 99% and I hate paying extra for features I don't want. It took me 7 years to find a Base Canyon at a decent price. One of the first things I did was go to a salvage yard and buy 4 SLT rims. They didn't tell me I couldn't put SLT rims on a Base Canyon. They sold me what I wanted without any problems, and I went back for some Denali dash panels.

Agreed. Some of the options like seat map pockets, visor extenders, rear folding arm rest, etc should all be standard (1 option). You would think this would save them engineering and manufacturing resources for little to no cost to the customers. The aux switch easily connects to accessories under the hood. Lights on the radio don't bother me but I agree the fog lights should be with the other lights.

With the amount of scale in their manufacturing, they aren't cutting these features to be cheap (because it's not cheap), they're doing it to force people into higher trim levels and to make those who spend an extra $30k not feel like they wasted their money.

I'm in the mid size market. It really is just a shame how Chevy decided to nickel and dime you to death with these packages and options on the new Colorado.
It really is disappointing to have to give up options entirely for the trim you want. LT? No 2 speed tcase. Trail Boss? Shit interior and no LED anything.
Z71? Lame stance and no lift.
Want everything? Bend over to the tune of 60K for (let's not forget) just a Colorado.
The highs are really high for this truck but the lows are exceptionally low.
GM, shame on you for ignoring the middle ground.

Packages are gimmicks. It is a way of gouging consumers into buying shit they don't want. It is also a way of manufactures to save $. Because if you wanted cruise control and no heated steering wheel and or no radio controls on the wheel, they would have to alter their production plants to accommodate individual requests. Which is too much $ for production costs. A friends mom is so fussy she argues and fights with sales people over these issues. As if they can control the corporation they work for. She wants heated seats but does not want to pay for the heated steering wheel in the package deal.(as an example) So she says, I don't care about that convenience and therefore I should not have to pay for it. In an ideal situation, I agree. I want an integrated garage door opener, but don't want the whole interior upgrade package with leather seats. But that just is not how the mass produced plants operate. I still maintain if one is that fussy, don't buy a mass produced vehicle and go find someone to build what you want to your specifications. Chances are, it will not cost as much or more than what one pays for what they don't want anyhow. 😉

I take my dog with me and he stays in the back, with this truck there would be no room for him with the seat up. That plastic thing under the seat is worthless. My current F150 has a wide open floor with the seat folded up.

Both nice trucks. The major thing I'm not sold on is the lack of operation switches and forced use of the screen to turn on fog lights and other items? The extra dealer markups is a deal breaker for me! Glad we have a good relationship with our GMC and Toyota dealers. We still even get a few thousand dollars off the sticker. Greed is killing the auto/truck industry! PS, I live in northern Ohio.

@@2011buddylee That's fine for trade in. As for buying used not so much. I was at a dealership that I had bought my 2018 base truck. It was the same year, bed size and even just rear wheel drive, basically the same year as mine, the only difference was it had stickers on the bed that said Z71 off-road, I found it funny that it had those off-road stickers on a non four wheel drive. It had 37,000 miles on it and they were asking 27,000 dollars. I bought my truck in 2020 with 15,100 miles and paid a little over 19,000 and still had a year of Factor warrantee on it.

Just seems like they cheaped out big-time on some things.

I have the 2023 Chevy Colorado LT, and that tailgate storage and under the rear seat storage is very limited. I have jumper cables stored in the tailgate. Under the rear seat, I wish I had more height to store a canvas tool bag, but no it doesn't fit. So, I'm seriously thinking of a truck cap. I had one on my Ford Ranger, and you have a wide height range of storage that's out of the weather. The problem with the cap, is the reduced gas mileage plus all that weight of stuff you continuously haul in a cap. And another disadvantage is keeping the front cap window clean and the rear cab window clean. And, if you can't keep the front of the bed exterior clean between the cab and the bed, that's the area where my old truck rusted, because you can't clean off that road salt in that area properly. I wish they could come out with a cleaning tool to clean this area, that will help in the long term in maintaining your truck from rusting in the rust belt states. I'm glad my LT doesn't have those wheel moldings, that's where the road salt accumulates too. I had exterior roof sunvisor on my ranger with the running lights, and I really loved the look, but people complained the roof began to leak ruining the roof liner. I had my Ranger for 21 years since new, I never had that problem, but I kept it resealed. The LEDs in the reverse tail lights were really great backing in or out of my 100' driveway near the woods at night. I drive strictly in town and the fist time I fueled up my 2023 Colorado LT, I only got 14.1 MPG. 14.1 MPG was a severe disappointment, but figured the engine needed broken in yet..

The trims and packages on these trucks just seems weird to me. Off road trail boss. No Led headlights. No fog lights period. No cruise control standard?. Lt with a tow mode but no hitch or trailer plug. I didn't know you could even buy trucks with no hitch or plugs. They don't want to have inventory on dealer lots anymore, But they want to make every little feature a box you have to check. Seems like a recipe for lots of unhappy owners. Seems almost impossible people won't end up overlooking features they wanted. Andre missed several options he would have liked to have including cruise control He has probably ordered and looked at more truck build sheets than 98% of truck buyers. You can tell he wants to like his truck, But he constantly says I wish it had this, maybe I can add that or I'd rather this be like that.
