Interesting. You're right about the ZR2. I went to look at one a couple of months ago, thinking if I liked the new Colorado I would order a Trail Boss. When I looked at the ZR2 I realized it was pretty much ready to go off road as is. The lift, tires, lockers, some skid plates, the off road pages, etc. There was nothing I had to do to it, unlike almost any other truck I've bought in the past. I brought it home with me. I kind of consider it the Colorado version of a Raptor, or at least close to it. Loving the truck so far.

I just rented the Nissan Frontier and I liked it. The one thing keeping it off my list though is that it is a direct injection engine with no port injection to keep the intake valves clean. The one I rented had only 14k miles on it and already had a rough idle, which can be a symptom of dirty intake valves. If I were to buy the Nissan, then I would definitely put a catch can on it.
The Tacoma has both direct and port injection which is one of the reasons it's on the top of my list.

So this is a non issue that is being blown way out of proportion. how about the fact that Toyota will sell you a vehicle with the hardware for command start but in order to use it you have to pay a monthly subscription, to use a button on your key fob!

So far, it has been flawless. Lots of power over those two big summits on I-70 in Colorado. And better highway MPG than the EPA rating. Driving from 65 to 75 mpg we are getting 24 to 25 mpg. This is why I have always thought "over the air updates" for vehicles are ridiculous--because they can't possibly account for what you might or might not do to upgrade the vehicle. For a hundred years, we manufactured and drove vehicles without "over the air updates", and everything was fine...why do we suddenly need them now? I don't want the manufacture retaining an ongoing role with the vehicle after I've bought it.

    • @mattlimberg5763

Because there was nothing to update. It's for the computer software to p possibly give you new features, but mainly to keep it secure. I agree it is a bad idea, you should have to accept it and be set to update the next time you park the vehicle and keep the engine on so it can't kill the battery and shut down the engine once complete.

Most new startups (or non-legacy brands) utilize an electrical network architecture powered by a very capable CPU and sophisticated software designed by the best in the world in Silicon Valley. Legacy brands still rely on very old-fashioned architecture that relies on supplier control modules with designs dating back to the 1980s and not necessarily designed for flexibility but cost. Until legacy manufacturers scrap their current way of doing things, they will continue to struggle with their electrical architecture and software on new vehicles, and the technology gap will widen.

Maybe the techs should have ohm the wire to the camera both checking short, short to ground, and short to shielding. Doesn't take a special tool just a multimeter and competence which is very lacking in automotive shops these days. My list of issues with my AT4X
Cruise control the vehicle brakes for no reason, the display switches from miles per hour to kilometers on it's own, blind spot monitoring on passenger indicates something is there that isn't then when I pass a vehicle I doesn't even register, windshield whistles when going highway speeds, cameras sometimes just stop working, sunroof thumps whenever it rains, heat doesn't work unless setting above 78 degrees, and with trips that last more that 20 mins I get a really strong smell of burning motor oil.
Love the ride quality but way to many issues and time to move on. It really like the vehicle but can't live with so many issues on a new vehicle. If GM can't get right systems that have been around for over a decade then I am very worried for the super cruise

Now that I've heard the backstory about when the truck was ordered, it sounds like that the whole cruise control issue can be traced back to a salesperson doing a lousy job of explaining what the different option packages included. That, OR, they did explain it and Andre consciously chose to save the money...but that's not how the story's being told, and I'm sure he'd admit it if he declined it intentionally. I can only imagine how much more positive Andre's experience with this truck would have been if the ordering process was done more competently.

I think the Colorado is better looking than the Tacoma. I love the color too. And the wrap was a good move. What I don't like about any of the mid sized trucks are the small fuel tanks. I tow a small camper. So the mid sized can all handle it. But when towing, the small tanks means limited range. Once you get 10 to 12 MPG towing, the range is unacceptable. I tend to take long camping trips, 6,000 to 12,000 miles (Alaska). Hot March day in Colorado? That fan running is totally unacceptable. Sounds like lemon law on that back up camera. And its ridiculous Chevy doesn't have cruise control standard.

Got a fully loaded ZR2 (minus the Bose stereo - my fault as didn't check the box) for 53K and change. Absolutely love it (have 4K miles on it). Have only had one tech glitch but great otherwise. Did kick around waiting on the new Tacoma but to be equivalent I would have had to wait for a TRD Pro. I'm thinking they will be 65K plus for one of those when you put in the fact most dealers are going to price gouge.

I purchased a GMC 2018 Canyon Denali with 2.8L Diesel engine which now has 45K miles on it. I've had 2 types of problems with mine. I had 4 problems with the DEF system in the first 12K miles and problem was finally resolved after the dealer replaced the entire DEF system. The other problem was the transmission. It developed a shudder and the dealer said the transmission could not be fixed and had to be replaced at $9,000. I opted to flush the transmission and replace the fluid. This fixed the shudder issue and it is now one of the smoothest shifting transmissions I've experienced.

@@jedioutcast888 You wont be so glad when the warranty is out on that Colorado...but when it breaks down you can stay at home and workout as you watch more Mike Glover and Warrior Poet videos.....two of the biggest internet gun clowns on the tube--surprised you passed on their blowhard pal Larry Vickers, the 3 stooges. Have a great day. Been fun.

Not sure why everyone keeps complaining about the engine sound. The turbo whirls at low RPM sound rad.

I have never been a midsize truck myself, However i am highly impressed wit the value of the Trail Boss,Performance, Towing Capability. All this at a price point of under 40k in the current market and some regions, is still a lot of value. I just wish you could order this trim level with heated seats, but it is. a more base work trim level. The whole needing GM TO flash a tune for 650 is insane though.

That clicking when the truck is off I get almost every shut down that I notice, I've felt the break pedal vibrate or move a bit as well when I shut down but stayed in the vehicle. Thought I read someone explain it somewhere but I forget where....

In 2022, when I heard about all the technology GM was adding to the 2023 Canyon/Colorado, I knew I didn't want what they were selling because I don't need that much technology in a truck. I also don't like the trend of car manufacturers to take away options and charge more for technology and make customers pay subscription fees. I found a 2016 Canyon extended cab with a long box and a manual transmission at a decent price. It has a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine that is too quiet, and I couldn't hear the engine when driving. I replaced the muffler with a Cherrybomb Vortex, and now I can hear the engine when shifting gears and fuel economy improved by about 2 MPG. I also need towing mirrors from Boost Autoparts because they are more "boxy" compared to the ClearView towing mirrors.

Same for me. I read the upcoming reviews and decided that I didn't need a restyle or a high-tech simulated gauge cluster. And I wanted the long bed. So I got off my butt and bought a 2022 while I still could. The 2.5L is arguably a touch underpowered, but I didn't buy mine for mud bogging or towing a fifth wheel. I rationalize that good fuel economy is more important than being able to rush from traffic lights anyway.

@Avo7bProject The 4-cylinder is definitely underpowered, and I think that is why the previous owner sold the truck I bought. When I was driving it home, I had to downshift to 3rd or 2nd gear to get up steep hills with cars riding my bumper. But my previous truck was a 2002 Sonoma with a 4.3L V6, and I plan to engine swap the older port injected 4.3L V6 into my 2016 Canyon with a Tremic transmission. If a naturally aspirated small displacement 4-cylinder engine struggles to move a modern mid-sized truck when empty, then the engine is not powerful enough. You can add a turbo to increase horsepower and torque, but I think the engine will be working too hard most of the time. I never had any problems with the 4.3L V6 and I think I can get decent horsepower/torque and still get good fuel economy because the motor doesn't have to work as hard as a smaller displacement engine.

I extensively researched midsized trucks, chose '23 Colorado ZR2. Coming up on 10k miles and ZERO issues. A joy to drive on, off road. Avg 22.5mpg on winters (Blizzaks) interstate 70-80mph. The 2.7LI4T is a BEAST.
