I just bought a 2022 Colorado Z71. I’ll have to wait at least a couple years for Chevy to work out the issues that may come from it being a brand new vehicle. But I really do like it. And your story on it helps me see that it really might be a good truck. Thank you and Jake.
Tachometer design inspired by... stop signs??
Haha I wish I asked!
By the UFC
luckily there are 4 or so layouts to choose from. The hexagon is not for me.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@TedwardDrives hi Ted ward I have small question what the price tag for this beauty pickup
No heated seat option for the Trail Boss would be a deal breaker in cold climates.
That Trailboss looks really good in beige. I am scared of that 8 speed transmission though.
Nice review. I think you captured a few things that most others missed, such as the wind dam ease of removal and suspension compliance. I have a Trail Boss on order that's already built, but with no MPG numbers yet, I'm a bit on the edge of my seat. Did you do any short runs of "normal" driving to see what the computer was saying your MPG was? I can't imagine the overall MPG was great considering the enthusiastic driving you mainly showed in the video lol.. Thanks!
I think their is a report out avg is about 19 to 21
Thank you for showing the driver info center (behind the steering wheel). My Jeep GC (2014), also shows what trans gear you are in…which I find useful. Also shows ongoing mpg as you are driving…also is useful to help stretch mpg if you are so inclined. Come on man! I hope someone can show the 11” info center on the ZR2 and Denali. Nice job here!
Excited to see this truck get this bigger engine. The previous options were lacking in power for me but this 2.7 seems very Goldilocks. I definitely want the ZR2! Can’t wait to see you drive one.
one huge thing standing out to me is how QUIET it is in the cab while jostling over the rocks in the trail boss
I went with the Canyon version. Even the Low trim Elevation 2wd has the 2 inches of extra height and the 310/430 lbs. of torque engine. Also the styling suits me better along with the options available with the Truck.
Bet that canyon is gonna be sweet. Love seeing those on the road
I really like the GMC & starting to lean in that direction in either an Elevation trim or AT4. 👍🏻
Do you have low range?
They’re really nice trucks. I’d love a ZR2.
Hey 0 to 60 in 6.55 seconds is pretty good!
Lot slower than previous V6 which I thought was amazing 🥲
@@thelifeoffullerMy 2017 V6 Colorado was much quicker than that!!
Since the corona hit, and van life booming and then truck camper, earth roamer, i start to love pick up truck more than a sport car.
Van or Pick Up Truck and we can have a house on the road and better than my studio apartment.
I love that you're doing midsize truck reviews as I'm actively searching for midsize trucks. (I'm the fellow that bought your Z back in the day)
No way! What ever happened to that car?
i was watching the gt4 celica video before and I cant believe there's a youtuber in rhode island. feels so surreal to see the landscape I pass through almost every day
The new canyon looks amazing as well
Off road mode in these trucks is the equivalent of sport mode in cars - changes the transmission parameters for the most part. Previously owned a ZR2. Great review, loved it. Can't wait for the AT4X.
Really looking forward to the ZR2 trim on this new Colorado. I saw it there but we couldn’t drive it yet
@@TedwardDrives any details you can share?
Seems like a pretty legit truck, especially the Trail Boss. No frills, with off-road ability is what I look for in a truck.
100%, except in 2023 If feel cruise and heated seats aren't "frills" anymore.
@@ryanlavallee3239 ya it’s alot better to get the z71 with all the modern options and you can buy aftermarket 1” lift kit and 1” wheel spacers and have the same width and height as the tail boss for less than $500
And as far as my choices are about the Colorado truck is concerned, my lottery dream is to buy both, the z71 and the trail boss , I'll be happy with both, turbo high output
Looks good other than the Colorado being so high up on the drivers door. Looks funny to me
I love my 2019 Colorado Z71 with the longer box. I really like the new Colorado also but disappointed with no long box. Maybe it's on the way later??
I thought I heard they gave a lot the same (example: engine, trans, radio) to streamline production. So I can't see a different cab or box coming.
@Ryan Lavallee your exactly right on this one. They automated a lot of the jobs for better quality and streamlining . they discounted the extended cab because people weren't buying them and they where making more crew cabs with short beds then extended and long bed configurations
This is the benchmark mid-size truck in today’s market. The forthcoming Toyota & Ford don’t touch this truck on options, value, & overall segment offering. Anyone telling you otherwise is biased.
I’m a Ford guy and this is the truck that most people actually need if a truck is even part of your household dynamic. Plenty of power, all the options for off pavement traction, creature comforts, & competitive pricing.
Gas mileage is still horrid, but that can be said for the whole segment. Have to move over to a Ford Maverick if MPG is a fixation.
I've been torn between the Trailboss and Z71, I know the Z71 is "nicer" with more features and options, though the Trailboss is more rugged and offroad ready, though I'd mostly use it as a daily driver, having the option to hit the trails, though the Z71 can also do mild stuff, that being said, as a daily driver, which drives better on paved roads?
Seen a couple of this video’s on the new Colorado, but have too say this is the best by far, great info 🤙🏾
Thanks Daniel!
Test them mud ,ruts, deep snow and water. That's why we buy them. Most of these dry dirt trails can be done by a two wheel drive
That sort a candy red looks nice
Yeah that Z71 was really nice to look at inside and out
It seems like they have video people around all the time, and their going for a passing grade as much as possible, it seems like the testing never stops
There is supposed to be a washer feature on the underbody camera.
To be fair. I didn’t use the wiper washers to test it
Yeah, on the left side there is a button when looking at the underbody view, the lone button. To spray the cameras off.
I enjoyed your video. Many of these reviews seem bias but not yours. I have a 2019 All Terrain. Steering is sloppy. the interior is cheap and the backseat legroom sucks. Im not sure they fixed all these issues. The interior is an improvement but....Id love to see a Ford Ranger Raptor comparison.
I would want a Z71 with the TrailBoss suspension.
Same
Thanks for the review!
My girlfriend and I will miss the terrible manual and the six foot bed in our 2019 WT. I think this new model might be worth the sacrifices when the time comes. We will just have to test drive one and see.
On this test drive...WHAT IF the brakes failed, maybe a brake fluid line ruptured, how would you use the emergency brake to slow you down to a stop on the side of the road??? Explain that one on a Chevy Colorado. I like to know because I ordered a 2023 Colorado LT.
I’ve had some pretty big brake failures. Even with a ruptured line there’s enough fluid for a couple hard pumps before there’s nothing left
Like it but worry about the electric water pump how long will it last someone hopefully will give me a little insight on this issue
I heard somewhere that some cameras, on German cars maybe, have nozzles that spray water and then compressed air to clean the camera lens.
Love to see a GMC Syclone again
For everything that I have been able to figure out about this truck flagship model, it perty much seems to sale itself
The intro, and off we go
Very nice mid-size truck, except for the exhaust note. I would like it to have a exhaust valve, Soft/Loud.
Im currently doing my driving test and I've learned quite a bit from these videos. Keep it up👍
Damn bro you're watching a RUclips video while doing your test, you're skilled as fuck
@@caliqm2199 Haha no lol, before driving
zr2 '11-inch Diagonal Color Driver Info Center'
The rest of the trim is only an '8-inch diagonal multicolor driver information center'
Anything to say about this?
how is the lane keep assist on this thing? on my honda it works pretty well at keeping me center on the lane like a level 1 autonomous driving. does it center in the lane or does it ping pong when you get near the edge of the lane
Can you stick an SD card someplace on this truck and record the camera footage?
Went to a dealer last night and the salesman told me nope. :( Come on GM you have all those cameras let us record them!
I found a Shelby Cobra 427 Backdraft for sale, and I knew I had to see if you've reviewed one... AND YOU HAVEN'T!! I challenge you to find and POV drive a Shelby Cobra 427.
Being from EU I do not have much interest in trucks and daily economic SUVs but I always love watching your offroad reviews. Maybe I do like offroading and just refuse to acknowledge that. (: Looks like a fun offroading car, I like the paint on the Trail Boss. Also seems like not only a better, but also more reasonable choice assuming it's gonna serve it's purpose.
Where in EU? You still have borders and nations, right?
They tow 7700 lbs If you buy the upgraded towing option. Otherwise????
You keep saying you’re driving the high output engine. Was the Z71 reflashed for the HO tune or was it really the mid level turbo plus that comes in the Z71?
The Z71 I was driving had the Turbo High-Output so it had the 430lb-ft option. The Trail Boss had the Turbo+ so it was the 391lb-ft option.
@@TedwardDrives how much of a difference did that make? Could you tell or would you be hard pressed to tell the difference?
@@TedwardDrives I have a new Z71 ordered and was curious if that reflash was gonna be a noticeable upgrade. Sounds like you could really tell the difference between the Z71 (430lbft) and the trail boss (391lbft). Is that right?
Where is the clip of the exterior and interior driving of the ZR1? Seems like it was only Trailboss
all red hood is Z71
Tedward, do you have a top 3 fun daily drivers around 30k? Im looking to get around around that
I've seen the video's on about the 4 cylinder motor with the turbo, but I haven't really seen anyone give a good explanation of details on how the turbo is actually working with the intake breather
This looks surprisingly great from Chevy. Two questions are 1 )MPG? (87 or 91?) And 2) does the rear window roll down? (Toyota style)
Manual slide rear window
does it overheat in NYC traffic? because that's honestly a reason i don't buy a new GM.. the old ones all overheated..
Yay for Julian! I hope they got you some pie while you were in the area. :)
definitely ate pie with coffee!
@@TedwardDrives Ha! Nice. :) The whole place is covered in snow right now. Would have made for a different experience I bet. Julian is awesome though, was just hiking about 5 miles south a couple of weekends ago.
How's the turning radius on it? Seems like most midsize trucks need a lot of room to make a U turn.
For all these Naturally aspirated fan boys. What do you do if you are in High Altitude ?? Your truck will be reduced to a sniveling Weakling without a turbo. Also this new engine gives you over a 100Lbs more torque with almost identical gas mileage. I will take losing 2 to 3 miles highway for all that extra torque all day long !
Problem with trail boss is its too stripped and to get a few common features added to the lifted wide body means you have to pay over 10K more for a AT4. There ain't much in between for price points for the lifted wide body which is probably what everyone wants. Its all or nothing as far as how GM bundled it. That's the real deal killer for me.
100%. I was very interested in the TB till I saw that heated seats weren't an option, cruise control is a package option, both imo should be standard equipment.
The deal killer for me is the discontinued CCLB. No way I’ll ever own this new generation
@@robertglover1296 Ford has been testing a CCLB mule in their next gen which will come out later this year. GM trying to stream line everything down. Almost too much IMO.
I watched a video of when GM announced the new Gen and the lead engineer went on about how GM Listened to their Customers. Yeah Right! Lol
When can we buy these
Does anyone know when the zr2 will be available since they delayed its production??
I heard it hits the production line April 24th. It was initially set for May production but was moved up
That 4 cylinder may deliver the figures but the engine sound is a far cry from glorious V6/V8 Americana
The old engines that came in the previous generation colorado sounded worse tbh
1st world problems when the sound is what people take issue with.
@BW if you're buying a truck for how it sounds, rather than what it does.... you should pay 100k for your pavement princess. Deck it out with all the barbie accessories for validation.
LHT Performance put a V8 from a 2020 Silverado in a 2020 Colorado. After the swap, the Colorado with the V8 got better fuel mileage than with the original V6 because the V8 didn't have to work very hard to move the 1/4 ton truck. I have seen a couple of videos from TFL Truck where half ton Ford and Chev trucks overheated pulling trailers up hills in the summer heat but GM wants people to believe that the smaller trucks with twin turbos, that bleed heat to the intake air, are reliable for towing. ruclips.net/video/DI_jU7-Ts78/видео.html
@@elche1976 😂
Just put a deposit down on a TB but kinda sad it still comes with halogen lights 😂. Oh well nothing led bulbs won't fix good luck everybody else.
Cool video 🤘. Do you know if the HO motor tune needs premium fuel? I know the turbo + only needs 87.
Oh wow, you film this at Santiago Canyon?
test drove a previous gen Canyon with the V6, and wanted to try one with the 4cyl diesel... but i think my feelings are the same as yours... the truck is overall great, but is deserves a V8... doesn't even need to be the big 6.2... give us the baby 5.3 and that truck would be perfect. No matter how good the 2.7 turbo is, the transient response and 'meh' sounds will never truly replace a v8, even if peak numbers are on par or higher.
Watch the videos by LHT Performance of a V8 swap into a Colorado. ruclips.net/video/DI_jU7-Ts78/видео.html
Gm made a ss colorado just never brought it to market
@Larry Simth I saw pictures of it but wasn't sure if it was a one-of-a-kind prototype or a home engine swap. I am not interested in a V8 because I prefer the port injected 4.3L V6, but I like engine swaps where people share their experience and the parts used. I want to see a future where trucks can have any engine the owner wants, even a 6 cylinder diesel from a Volkswagen Amarok. I hate that car manufacturers like GM will not let you have the rim size or interior that you want in any truck you are buying. If my money is not good enough to get exactly what I want, then I will build the truck I want.
The turbo is pretty big for a stock motor. 57mm
The tack is the shape of a stop sign... lol
Body lines are taken from the hummer EV
Occupants are baffled they can’t find “sport” mode, it’s a midsized truck with a economy sized 4 cylinder engine
Every time I hear a 4-banger accelerate so much weight, it makes me cringe thinking it'll explode.
Grab a Snickers. It'll be a while.
Watch TFL's interview with the chief engineer on the 2.7T. This motor is build like a diesel and is designed from the top down for reliability. The torture tested motor is broken apart to show little wear. ruclips.net/video/JLxeBzrhOHQ/видео.html
It's been in heavier Silverado for 4 years now with no issues, have another donut
@@gordmonteath6090 actually the new Colorado is heavier then the silverados that have the 2.7 in them.
This truck will top out at $70k CDN, asking that much for a 4 cylinder is insane
7:55 this guy obviously hasn’t seen any WhistlinDiesel “testing” videos 😂 jokes aside, best review of this truck so far! Keep up the great content. :)
Thanks! I don't think they'd invite me back if I did what he does!
Would hope that color looks better in real life
It does
MPG?
If anyone in PNW is looking for a new Colorado LMK!

Ear buds coming out, an Indication of lateral g force taking those corners at 35? Maybe your ears just got bigger. 🤭 Jkjk my guy. Great video
9:40 "The Fart Evacuauator Feature"
I want this truck
Can you turn off the auto~start~stop in any of these trims?
Yes theres a button to the left of the hazards I believe
@@TedwardDrives THANK GOD! 😬
I understand not having certain tech and other creature comforts in the TB, but not having a telescoping wheel is just plain ridiculous..how stupid.
Steering feel ? Isn't it a truck
What do the cameras see if you put full coverage skid plates on?
what does a camera see with a lens cap on? but all the skid plates that come with it (mid, and transfer case) don't block it.
@@matth3wc The postage stamp size oem skds are not what I had in mind. A set of full coverage skids that actually protect the undercarriage. Did they incorporate any way to clean the lens?
@@madcratebuilder yeah, i bet aftermarket skid plates would block the camera unless they especially design a cutout for them.
They do have a built in wash nozzle. If you look at the video where he shows the under camera view. You'll see a button on the left side all by itself. That spays them with window washer fluid.
Agreed on the telescoping wheel Tedward!
Two things all vehicles should have - a leather wrapped wheel and a tilt/telescoping wheel.
It’s on the trail boss model. Sucks that you have to buy the top tier model just to get a leather wheel steering wheel.
Chevy has blown the ranger out of the water since the old ranger we all remember, and they’re gonna keep doing it until Ford dealers cut the up charge bs
It would be nice if they came with an analog tach and speedo. A manual transmission would also be a nice option
Interesting. Your the first to pick the TB as your pick.
No, no he's not. You need to find me videos. Those who like truck features hace liked it. Those who need confort and luxury to somehow manage to survive like the z71 which feels more like a car/suv. Go figure.
And apparently he can drive
Not sure why Chevy chose that cheap looking gloss black plastic for the center console.
I saw a TB review that showed you had to turn lights off on the touch screen and the 4wd system was also controlled by the touch screen.. any truth to that?
That is true unfortunately. Its always one push away so you dont need to dig through menus, but in a pinch I wish it were a physical switch.
ilove this car ❤
The only problem I see right now is the tailgate coming down really slow and people on a lot of videos have to push it down by hand.
Doesn't the TG have a storage area? Add weight, it well come down faster.
Should’ve left the v6 in it
They need to make ss versions of random cars again lol
They made a ss version with a v8 of the sec gen model of the colorado but never saw the light of day they also made a few other special models that didn't make the cut but I heard the ss colorado was bad ass 😭
Needs an extended cab option. Fail!
I don’t like it doesn’t have a rotary headlight switch (buried in the touchscreen) And the long term reliability worries me
Would be awesome is GM decided to put a V8 in this monster……ohhh a person can dream…4 cyl sounds blah. America doing everything it can to be Europe.
I can't stand when people are on their phones all the time.
The interior doesn't look like shit, that's odd for a Chevy...
The brand has been taking a trashing of late as far as interior design. At the very least they needed to best the new frontier. Competition has its way of forcing oems off their butts.
@@HiPlains1 Agreed, good on Nissan for stepping up their game lately too.
You get the full 12” cluster in the ZR2
Why no 10 speed?
Probably because it has enough torque to get the job done efficiently with 8
@@TedwardDrives I’m just thinking of the problems the 8L90 had…assuming this is the 8L90 transmission. And given the fact that the rest of the GM RWD lineup has moved to the 10 speed it is weird to me.
@@lttsr 10speeds are more common in cars that need closer gear ratios either for better fuel economy or more torque when towing. The 8speed probably is the sweetspot for this truck.
@@lttsr They fixed those issues for the most part back in 2019. This one is even better with newer mapping, fluid, and some HW changes. Its been holding up well on the Silverado that uses the same 2.7T 8 speed setup. But I'd avoid 2015-2018 model years like the plague unless you find a duramax model that uses the 6 speed which is a good one.
@@lttsr this 8 speed is a different trans then the ones that had shudder issues.
I like it but I like my Ford Ranger more!
Doesn’t look like the steering is as good as the last Gen. doesn’t matter because they no longer are offering a Crew Cab Long Box. Not interested
✨❤️❤️❤️❤️
Electric water pump? That's a hard pass for me. I don't trust to not have that electric motor fail at any given time.
0-60
6.92 Seconds
A whole sec 0-60 slower than the 3.6L V6 😢
