I tried so damn hard to pull this off. Weeks of work. Hundreds of dollars. All for absolutely no reason. Soldering 34 wires to 64 pads which aren’t meant to have wires soldered to them is bloody hard work. I’m also not an expert at soldering, or shell modification, or spray painting. I hope you see the fun in this. I tried so hard.
The Retro Future I would say it was worth a shot, but it wasn’t. If you plan on trying this again (which you probably won’t) maybe try using tape instead of soldering.

Most people don't realize that the GBA SP actually was the bridge Nintendo used to make the DS, alot of what they built for the DS hardware wise was seen as upgrades they already made in the GBA SP or planned for it. There's was also long ago images they made showing a GBA SP shell to house two screens before making the original clamshell prototype we all know as concept art. Before they even scrapped the Gameboy line they were testing development of a touchscreen for the GBA SP with integrated almost PDA style features.

I like the idea could build a custom case with a screen on the front and one on back so when you play games for your channel The camera can see one and you can see the other keep up the good work mate.
@@tredI9100 I don't think he thought like that. DS stands for Dual Screen und QS would stand for Quadro Screen. FS would stand for Four Screens and that's not how it works.
Reminds me of the classic arcade cabinets that had a second screen on top of them, so that if you were in the crowd and couldn't get close enough to see the main screen, you could watch the gameplay on the second screen.
@@aidancommenting Handheld and console are both systems. A handheld system is meant to be held in your hands. A console system is meant to be an at home system, set down and plugged into the tv, not to be picked up while I'm use.
This is the worst, most useless project, and i LOVE it. Consider getting a PCB factory to make you some of those printed ribbon cables, or get some FFC cable off the shelf with the right pitch. If you have a dead DVD drive, maybe you have the right one right there, connecting the pickup. You can probably cut it at an angle, strip a bit, and then bridge drag solder it to the display cable at the connector.
Thank you for your honesty with the build and equally covering your failures (aka learning experiences) as much as your successes. These are the kind of projects that can leave you disappointed, but you actually walk away with a lot of knowledge that will only lead to better things going forward.

Fun fact: I bet u didn’t know that back when Nintendo was creating the Gameboy advance sp in 2003, the president of Nintendo at the time was considering making it have a double screen before the ds and adding 3D functionality

Just an idea, for the cable soldering, I'd have used kapton tape, it really helps isolating zones from heat.
