I’ve said it on other vids but I’ll say it again here: this man has carried me through my modding journey, and has never steered me wrong. 8 GBC/GBA/SPs later, just want to say thanks!
Good job Jake. I really enjoyed your his video. I’ve done 3 so far and now I’m starting to understand the shell issues.😂 I’ve sold one so far and plan on making more. I do this as a hobby and also cause I enjoy games/gaming. Keep up the good work.
I’ve modded 4 GBA’s, 2 successes, 2 failures 😅 my dream GBA is a wide AGB model with a SP 101 screen but I don’t trust myself to do the mod and I can barely find anyone talking about how to do that online 😢
Man, if you can get an ips screen, I highly recommend it even if you have to trim a bit. But if you're going for that look, I got a knock off Halo Light back in the day that was better the original Halo Light, and my screen looked pretty close to my cousins SP screen. Maybe you can order one of those and use some parts from it for a screen brightness slider, and fits it all in the battery compartment! Then you would just need wires from the dial to the screen. Just an idea I thought of.
Been looking forward to this video! Very in-depth, well done! I've had the parts for my GBA mod for a while now, but haven't gotten a chance to put it together yet. This video will definitely come in handy when I do have time to do the mod!
I modded two gba’s back in 2019, added ags 101 screens to them. Just recently I took one of those and added a funny playing ips 3.0 and a usb c battery pack. Your previous videos helped Jake, thanks! Wish I had more reasons to mod more cuz it’s a lot of fun.
I actually just posted a video yesterday on a GBA and I linked your channel because you are so knowledgeable when it comes to gameboy modding. Unfortunately when I ordered my shell and screen kit I didn’t do enough research beforehand and had to trim the shell and it was a nightmare! 😅 but I hope others will learn from my mistake that I pointed out and hopefully people will consult your videos before they make an order lol
Honestly I was kinda hoping for a new gba video even tho your most recent one isn't even that old, I just found my old original gba I had when I was a kid and i wanna restore it properly, this will help alot man 🙏 Edit: the ips kit doesn't show the 3 red wires yours comes with, is the listing just not updated or are you using a different kit? still have one ordered but wasn't sure if id need to source my own wires from my own stash lol
I have a gba that i got at a garage sale that wasn’t working because of the power switch so i took it apart and cleaned it with 99% alcohol and gave it a gentle but good cleaning and it powered on. My guess is that it just got buildup of dirt and grime that made the contacts stop working
My IPS modded gba worked fine for a week! Until the pixels started bleeding... i asked funnyplaying for a solution but ordered a new screen anyways so i have a spare one in case this would happen again... still have no clue how it happened 😅 i always take care of my stuff
Can you make a tutorial on the 2ds lite? It's an unhinged DS lite made by someone named bozmodz that you can 3d print the parts for and I don't know how to mod consoles
I don't know if you could answer this since you don't have a magic 8 ball but is there a way to make an educated guess on when/if oled displays for the GBA will be available?
I want to mod my old GBA not just to have a new shell and screen but to also make it USB-C chargeable and run ROMS as well as game cartridges. Any tips where to start?
Hey people, hopefully someone can help me. Iam new at GBA modding and I have the same problems again and again: When I added a new case and new buttons, first, the shoulder buttons are not so "clicky" anymore (its stressful to click on them, it doesn't feel well) and the D-pad is also harder to click as the original buttons. You need more power to get a result. That leads to strained fingers. As a solution, I always switch to the original buttons again but they aren't really good looking in a golden or transparent case. Do you have some ideas to prevent this issues? Also I bought many sets of buttons and shoulder buttons from ebay. Its always the same, I dont know why. :(
@JakeSimmons Thank you I guess for my second mod, I'll go with Hispeedo V2, no clean juice battery, just straight regular batteries 👌🏻 Awesome video btw
hey bro do i have to ground myself when i'm working on gameboys or psps, i'm getting into this for the first time and I just want to make sure i don’t mess up my psp
I’ve never once grounded myself for any of this and do it on thick carpet but never once had a problem. I don’t think it would be an issue but if it makes you nervous it’s not gonna hurt anything to ground yourself
I tried to mod my gba a while ago. First i couldn’t fix the speaker, i even installed a new one and it didn’t work. I think it was the headphone jack. The i replaced the screen and now it won’t turn on
Did you install a ips screen? (Might be possible that you have a 40 pin model and have to desolder C54 in order for it to work) or it might Just be the ribbon cable that is not inserted correctly
@@basboerlage4766 i just tried it again and it actually does turn on but it freezes when it gets to the game. Some games will show a glitchy screen some don’t show anything
I know the mods always come with wires to connect the components to the ribbon cable but I lost one so would you be able to let me know the size or kind of wire I need connect the components ?
Unrelated to the great video, but: my 101 gba sp has a very low soublnd volume. I've read on the net that it might be a capacitor (cp1) gone bad. How can I make sure that's the case? Also, how to properly clean the power switch and volume wheel?
Most likely a cap replacement would fix your sound issue. Unless your volume slider is visibly rusty or something, it’s gonna be the capacitor. There is a link in this description for my short on how to clean your power switch. For volume wheels just put alcohol on it and scroll back and forth very fast for like 30 seconds and finish by blowing it with canned air to knock out any dust or debris

Whats the difference in the "wide agb" model?
@@rudolphgreen2641 Wide and AGB both describe the game boy advance model I’m talking about, which is the first one Nintendo released.

This is really awesome! I might eventually just buy one of the modded gbas you are selling on the website since I don't have a gba laying around.

you got the same blue soldering mat that i got yesterday in the mail, what a coincidence
I've never gotten the chance to own a gameboy advance. Maybe some day I will be able to afford one and enjoy what so many people say is so much fun.
I got mine in 2004. Back then they were still new and not ridiculously overpriced.
Are those non laminated shells useable with the battery mod from funny playing ? Without needing to remove some plastic part in the back I mean

Those printed shells that came bundled with boxes seem to have disappeared from AliExpress. Any idea where I can get them?
Hey I just got a GBA SP Pikachu Edition AGS-001 with cherry red buttons and triggers. Is this a real GBA or did get scammed?

Hello, what screen mod replicates the LCD grid the best? That’s literally the only thing I’d like on a GBA modern screen. Thank you
