Great content. I really enjoy that you care about these game systems, and take the time to make these videos. I've taken your preferences and am going to do my sp mod. Yeah yeah, sp. Thanks man.
when placing the screen onto the guide i used some double sided tape to hold the screen in place it worked out well as the guide allows the screen to slide around and the same with the small pcb on the backside of the guide
I'm surprised how simple the soldering work seems to be! Last time I ever soldered anything was in jewelry making class for high school and that was kind of scary but fun LOL. I could try this...
I appreciate the metric conversion! I thought retromodding had the option to get them pretrimmed? It's an extra $5 or something like that. Maybe it's only for the SPs
You are a bit wrong there, it actually wasn't the games being good that gave it the heads up from the competition... the competition had good games too. The real reason was 3 fold (and in no particular order) 1st, the battery life. Less power means it lasts longer. 2nd was the price. At the time, parents were the ones buying the systems so they'd obviously buy the cheaper system. Especially since, back then, our parents viewed video games as toys... 3rd, Nintendo was just a bigger more trusted name than the competition...
Maybe this was the joke he was making but in the UK you hear people saying the phrase "a metric butt tonne" quite a lot except butt is usually substituted for one of the more explicit four letter words lol. I wasn't sure if he knew that or was just saying it because people in Europe in general use metric but I thought it was funny that he said that phrase because it's something I assumed was only said over here lol
I did indeed watch the video. Like 3 times over. Is it the RIPS V5 motherboard that lets you be able to do it? I know it has the 36 different colors, but just didn’t know it could produce full color. Unless I’m missing something?
Your videos are really awesome. I installed an IPS screen and everything is perfect until I have to put the screws back, closing the shell. I think things are really tight because screen goes blank. Don't know if ribbon cable is bending too much... When I take out the screws everything works great again... Any hint? Thanx for your time!
So I was rehousing my gba sp and I noticed that the volume switch cover does not come of like the others. Is there a way to change that or would I have to get a new volume switch that allows me to do so since my ocd does not let me have the console one color and the volume another.

How long does the battery last with this mod?
Tack!
Got a busted GB with a busted up screen coming in as my first project for something exactly like this!
It feels thick but it will fit !!! that's what she said 😅
14:55 - that’s what she said
Your attention to detail and descriptive method is bullet proof. Very good, engaging delivery for a mod process that is easy to follow.
Thank you so much!
The „unknown“ board is the dc regulator board 💪🏼
Thank you! Makes sense haha
@@JakeSimmons you‘re welcome

Alright maybe I will mod a DMG.
I know a guy that can teach you
@@JakeSimmons The man on the RUclipss taught me to snip the speakers off because soldering is hard 😩
Instead of my mom’s, can I use my mother-in-law’s toothbrush … asking for a friend

Great video mate. I'll have to give it a try

This is perfect. Inspired to do this myself. Thanks so much
Ive been doing this for the past 3 years.
Show us any proof you’ve been doing this? Picture? Video? Anything? Didn’t think so
@@LavaCakes-g1g Bro took it personally💀💀💀
@@LavaCakes-g1gwhy you so mad lol
Watching videos?
Did they ever end up making pre trimmed shells?
Any tips for sorting out dpad problems with aftermarket shells? feel like i have to press way too hard to get contact
Hey Jake, I’m wanting to do this. But I’m wanting to keep the original shell. Is it possible. Does this mod make the screen larger?
That little daughter board is the power board!
Just got my first soldering iron a couple days ago, fixed up a xbox controller and Im riding high off that success 😂 time for gameboy modding >:D
Excelent video! Just in time for my own DMG IPS upgrade 🥳🥳🥳🥳

This is just a gameboy color with extra steps and I like it!
Thank you for this’ planning on making an SDR radio receiver with a pic 3A*
Can anyone explain how he gave this thing full color? List of parts ETC. I’ve been trying to figure it out, but don’t quite get it.
Did you watch the video?

@@dominicschollmeyer1090 it’s not full color. One of the palettes is multicolored
I see. Thank you. Much appreciated.

Goddamn, that Dixie Cup look on the DMG-01 is sick
What screen do you get to make it a Colored screen
If I close my eyes, I hear pauly shore guiding me through this lol
Does it have a motion blur effect?
Is there a battery pack with type c charger like I saw for GBA?! I wanna mod my gameboy but I don't wanna use AA batteries still dammit! hahaha
Yes
I did a rgb baclight on mine with a 4 point dip switch and that was fun
That sounds awesome!
What size of trywing does one need?
I use a Y0 bit

You would need a new switch. Some SPs you can swap them, some you can’t.
@@JakeSimmons thank you appreciate your time
If you close your eyes Jake sounds a little bit like Pauly Shore weasel buddy!
why was the colour?
Some carts have color maybe because of the release of a game was close to the release of GBC
Is it possible to do this with a GBC? I don’t own a DMG and I can’t find one for cheap.
ruclips.net/video/Ad9jOahL-Ok/видео.html
Super Duper Duper dumb question will it play the clear GBC carts know
Does not play GBC games
@@JakeSimmons thanks for the reply. Really enjoyed the video
Will this mod work with using the original shell?
Yes but you’ll have to trim it like I did
Nice. That's a lot of hard work.
You prefer retromodding over retrogamerrpairshop?
No. The opposite
The ammount of likes being so little is criminal, this is extremely underrated.
Now I wanna mod a DMG lmao, too bad I haven't bought one yet, I only have a GBC and og GBA
I think it’s worth it but GBC and GBA are awesome too and cover all the bases!
You made a paper wax cup gameboy.
Unpopular opinion but backlight original screen is much better, no lag, smooth frame rate and better consumption
The gba was ez
Pizza planet!
Cool
No. You dont. It kills the value of the console.
Flush cutter and xacto knife machine go brrr
Mine gb classic screen is broken or pixel death on the sides...i cant find a new screen original for it?@@odd-jm6wd
