My very first campaign I thought that an AI completing the bar was a lose condition, and I ended up sending Mazdamundi on a commando mission all over to Naggarond to stop them. Its was quite epic and a fond memory, but completely useless.
in my first campaign which was high elves i was super scared of the pirate armies that swim around ulthuan because after i found out that high elves dont automatically are allies i trusted no one. they never declared war on me but they were stronger than me for a long time according to the bar

@@ninasten7312 When the AI completes all of the rituals, they have to complete the final battle against you and the other remaining AI. When you win, they are out of the vortex race. It's usually pretty easy to stop them.
@@ninasten7312 you get a final battle to knock them out of the race. It a moderate hard battle depending in army setup and diffculty but if you win they are out of it

I remember the first time I played the vortex. 8 skaven armies attacked me at yvresse when I had the garrison and a full stack. Man that was my hardest battle to date even while it was normal difficulty since I still used balanced builds and did not have a clue on how to maiximize magic.
Similar situation for me, when I was playing my first vortex campaign, my armies were mostly Lothern Sea Guard with shields (didn't have any dlcs back then), sometimes I had two dragons and/or two units of cav. My only hero was a noble, who I put in my capital to increase trade and the only spellcaster I had was Teclis :P
I played and started a vortex ritual before I had any idea what I was doing. My army was smashed and almost entirely driven from the field, with the exception of 4 Ellyrian Reaver archer cavalry battalions that were kiting marauders all along the edge of the map. They did this twice before my reinforcing army made it to the city and the ritual was completed.

Best part about Vortex campaign is that you don't need to do those rituals, just annihilate factions that are doing vortex and boom, end game :D

True, but you get pretty big bonuses for doing them, so you should do them anyway.
I’ve only been playing the game for about a year, only beaten 3 campaigns on very hard, 1 on legendary and still have never bothered to complete the ritual 😂
When I first started playing the game and was a noob, trying to do the vortex is what has ruined campaigns for me lol

The vortex is impossible to lose, I don't know if you've even been in a position where the AI completes the last ritual, and you get a free shot to 3v1 that faction in the last battle, and it's kind of impossible to lose that fight. When an AI loses that fight, they're blocked from doing the ritual ever again. There's no reason not to wait a million years to do your rituals 🙂

And this is after they made those fights harder. It used to be even easier at launch. The AI used to have 1/3 less units before they "improved" the Vortex.
Thank God we also have the option to go for a Domination victory in the Vortex campaign.

I actually finished the Vortex just the very first time I've played Warhammer 2, since then I always went for domination victory.. doing rituals is just a pain in the ass
It’s so unrewarding to. After I bought Warhammer 1 I went over to mortal empires and stopped vortex almost entirely. Now the only times I do vortex are for the dlc factions who don’t do the race for the vortex since their quests are a nice change of pace.

12:30 I think just standing very close works as well. there was a patch that added projectiles ignoring trees for like 0.5 seconds or something after beeing shot
The vortex is especially difficult in Ulthuan. The invasions happen really close to the settlements, the land being so narrow. Otherwise, they tend to spawn near the borders of the realm, further away (usually) to the main major settlements.

Funny to see it after your total HE domination in the recent ME campaign.
The best way to win the Vortex campaign is to go for the domination victory instead. I've only played one campaign with a proper Vortex race. I played for about 130 turns and was ready for the last 2 rituals but the armies that spawned were such a bullsh!t (it was one of my first campaigns 1,5 year ago, so I wasn't very good at the game back then). I abandoned the campaign and returned to it later... when Legend uploaded the video with the backspace exploit. Yup, the way I completed the last two rituals was by blocking all the chaos/skaven armies and picking them slowly one by one :P And the only reason I bothered with it at all was to get an achievement.
A "fair" way to manage the invasion armies is with the mod that changes your capital (especially if playin as oder of the loremasters). That allows, with a bit of softresetting, to force the chaotic hosts to spawn far away from Ulthuan.
Chaos invasions and late game skaven used to scare me as HEs until I saw lightning strike. Now, in my Alarielle VH/N campaign, Eltharion cut down 3 in one turn and 3 in another. Elven healing+handmaidens replenishment+lightning strike+Eltharion and balanced army = auto resolve, heal over end turn, and more auto resolve. I brought some lords from the pool just to come along and snag the easiest 6 levels ever.
Gotta love when all that legend has taught me comes together so magically!

But yeah in my campaign, about 15, maybe 20 moves back I was in this situation. (Just about) And I'm still losing the war.. 😂 So I'm loading up the old save and trying this blokes method. 🙂👍🏼

You really shouldn't load the battles to learn something here.
It is more important to learn how to avoid situations like that. In order to do so, you'll have to learn how the game mechanics as well as the units you're using work.
Legend pretty much mentioned all of it already, but here are some tips for you anyways:
You're using an army based on ranged units, so you have to support them. First of all, you need some tanks. Melee heroes and lords with a rather small hitbox are always a good fit for this job, since your archers have a lower chance of dealing friendly fire as soon as the enemy engages them. Note that it's not important how much damage your tanks are capable of dealing, the only thing they need to be is hard to kill. Another good method of supporting your archers is to use a light wizard, if your faction can recruit them. Their Net of Amyntok spell forces all units in an area of effect to stand still for a couple of seconds, therefore your archers can shred them easily. You could also use a life wizard instead to further increase the survivability of your tanks or a fire wizard for just plain mass damge, but I wouldn't recommend the latter for a Sisters of Avelorn army. Put casters on an eagle mount, if possible, since those are fairly fast and have a small hitbox, so you can waste the ammo of enemy ranged units in a safe way, if you ever need to.
Secondly, Lightning Strike is a must-have skill for all lords of almost all factions. In fact, it's so good that going for it before any other thing is a reasonable thing to do most of the time. The only exception to this CAN be factions like Beastmen and Skaven, who are capable of ambush-attacks, which serve the same purpose and maybe some caster lords, who's magic is too overpowered to wait any longer than neccessary for it. If you can choose, you always want to be the attacking force of each battle. With Lightning Strike, you probably could've wiped out all five armies in one turn by just autoresolving the battles in this situation right here. It also debuffs enemy armies with a leadership penalty of -4, that's 40% of the difficulty modifier of Very Hard, so you should even use it when you're fighting single armies.
Another thing to bear in mind is the "Control Large Army" checkbox in the pre-battle screen. If you tick that off, this will allow only 20 units (plus summoned ones) on the field per faction at any given time during the battle, which can be a real life saver sometimes. In your case, it would've been great, since the most dangerous thing that threatened your army was to get swarmed and overrun. If the enemy has not enough units on the field for that, you have a much easier time and can kill them one by one as more reinforcements arrive. The thing is: In order to be able to tick that checkbox off, you need at least two of your armies taking part in the engagement, so if you had recruited just a single lord the turn before you've started the ritual and moved him out alongside Tyrion's army, you could've solved this situation way easier.
Lastly, always take a look at what different lords and heroes bring to the table in terms of their skill trees. Sometimes they buff the units you're using so disgustingly hard that 10 of those units plus said hero are in fact better than 20 of those units without the hero. In your case, a Handmaiden would've been a great addition for that matter.
Get those few things straight and you won't need to deal with cheese-intensive situations like this one. If you've done everything right and still end up knee deep in the shit, only then the right time has come to learn the art of abusing the AI. :D

i've never played Vortex...is Ulthuan bigger? i know there are different islands and settlements etc but the outer ring seems...wider?
He sent this too early. This campaign still wouldn't be over if he lost Tor Yvresse, he could have just recruited another army in Lothern and gotten back to recapture it before 10 turns were over. I had to do that practically every ritual on my Skaven campaign.
Yeah it was just interesting to see the tactics to deal with this kind of situation, but even if you lost the city, there'd be plenty of time to take it back. Then, even if you fail to take back the city in time, you're so far ahead of the race that you can just restart it with better preparation.
Unlike Skaven who can just rebuild tier 5 settlement given enough food, Tor Yvresse would be razed and you have to rebuild it from ruin. Which would take at least 30 turns to grow(for the city).
@@harrytan5579 It's not about having a strong Tor Yvresse, he just needed to have it occupied for the ritual to complete. After that he would have some time to build it up before the next ritual.

Oh so here's where the chaos invasion is.
I always do the rituals as soon as possible, the bonuses you get help so much with expansion and getting an extra army early, and if you know where the chaos spawns they are piss easy to deal with, mainly in Lustria they are almost always north of Itza, but Ulthuan is the worst and super random so just don't play Tyrion on vortex unless you save scum the spawns. I also hate being behind in rituals, it feels like I'm loosing so I never let them get the fourth one done. I usually win at around turn 120 on any difficulty. Conclusion: Play in Lustria and be very aggressive for easy achievements.

Hey, I have a question. Legend showed that tech that boosts sisters of Avelorn and handmaidens. What does it do if someone doesn't have the DLC? What was there before the DLC was released?
When a DLC adds a tech that boost a DLC unit and you don't own the DLC it changes nothing. The tech is there, you can research it but it does nothing for you since you cannot have the units it boost. Except if you confedarate an army that already recruited said units, in this case you can have the units without owning the DLC. But you cannot recruit more.
i think this is a core mechanic update that came with the dlc, so you still get it regardless if you have the dlc or not

I have to admit, I think the Vortex campaign just feels better in general when you play without the invasion forces on rituals.
There's still a double edged sword mechanic in terms of the Diplomatic penalties you face Vs the Gold, Upkeep, Public order etc you gain for doing them, but in my experience, the AI -Sucks- at responding to the Chaos armies in the first place and end up just crippling themselves with each ritual they do. Having all the core factions just thrive makes for a much more explosive and interesting end game Imho.
What about recruiting a new lord and getting lightning strike? Was his lord recruit level too low for that?
He was recruiting lords at level 1. He had a few other lords who had seen combat in the pool but they were all to underleveled to even possibly have lightning strike.

Tyrion's fighting prowess is such, that the very spirit of Aenarion himself manifests to smite his enemies!
Possibly misscast spell, funnily enough there was a recent video where a chaos wizard killed himself with a misscast spell in one of his videos
The Vortex campaign had some good ideas, but the biggest problem is how enemies just pop randomly out of nowhere, leaving you with almost no way to prepare for them. I think the later DLCs did a better job with this kind of thing, giving you a bit of warning, or making things into quest battles. Hopefully, WH3 will improve upon things further.

The scary thing about this is that it reminds me that the coding is in the game to have homing missles, how long before CA decides to create a DLC faction with homing missles on their non artillery units.

For the love of god people PLZZ take Lightning Strike especially on your main LL. The only exception to this is maybe Aranessa cuz she got lightning strike fully covered already and maybe Skaven armies cuz they ambush always anyways.
For everyone else especially settled races like Empire, High Elves, Dark Elves and Dawi imho Lightning Strike is a MUCH. Not taking Lightning Strike is just asking for trouble imo and it's not like he got some insane doomstack like Pompus Skink Chief or Wood Elves' Treeman spam who can just deal with 4 full stacks at the same time... if he DID got those or sth equal to that (namely KoTG doomstack) then I completely understand BUT come on Sister spam is one of the worst doomstacks in the game. They can barely deal with 2 full stacks let alone 4 !

As for the Sisters, you're really gonna need a Handmaiden. And just maybe a damn wizard? :v

One reason why I hate vortex campaign if u play high elves on the ulthuan . I rather played teclis because most of the time is very predictable where chaos will spawn . I just going to do ambush stand .

I have a friend who only wants to play campaign. I will do it because he's new at the game and I want him to get into it, but I just get so bored playing it. I'd rather play battles. How can I convince my friend that playing battles (with me of course) will help him improve in campaign? Things like unit control, matchups, experience with spells, etc.
We recently talked about your units getting their value back, how that's easier or harder for elite Melee infantry, monstrous infantry, archers, and the like

If I do end up playing vortex I have more fun with factions that don't deal with the toilet bowl swirly.

Legend keeps saying to recruit Handmaiden with resistant but the resistant trait says "Lord's army" so the buff doesn't actually work when on a Handmaiden...
"Net of Amintoc and Banishment are really useful" - literally ANYTHING is really useful if you do not use your goddamn winds of magic at all. I really don't know how you can be aware of Legend's existence and do not put any wizard in your armies at the same time, not mentioning just simple use of common sense. When I was a novice player I never ignored heroes - just because they are awesome and have great stats for their respective tiers, so dunno what this guy was thinking. RUclips just helped to understand their perks and uses better.
If you click on the army that you want to monitor in the army list it will zoom the camera there during over the AI spin. Good video
