You know the campaign is that bad when the video is 2 and a half hours long and it's starting off when Grimgor having 2 and a half full stacks.

Let me give some explanation to the viewers first. When Legend plays the game and does those battles, it all seems very easy! I am not that good though and my battles against the orcs are always a complete mess because they just wreck my front line, Grimgor yolos my army and I cannot kill him.
Also, I played Warhammer 2 more in the past and came recently to Warhammer 3 and the concept of trading settlements to gain temporary peace with hostile factions wasn't something I am used to, which meant that pretty much from turn 15 I am in a constant war with Grimgor, who controls the entire western rim of Cathay (he rolled the ogres as if they didn't exist) and he blocks all caravan routes, so no caravans income for the past 70 turns.
So that first battle I couldn't win and if I fail that first battle, the entire core provinces get rolled and it's pretty much over. Also with chaos dwarves knocking on the door and my allies being pummeled by both Grimgor and Nurgle, yeah the prospects of this campaign succeeding, for a player on my skill level, were pretty "grimdark!
As to why I used magistrates - the reason was that very early on I had to deal with multi-stack armies - Snitch always travels with 3-4 stacks of rats, orcs always have a wagh and come 2-3 stacks at a time, and the magistrate can get lightning strike on level 5, which is very early on, which helped me in the early game to deal with those blobs one army at a time!
I believe anyone who has ever had a disaster battle sorted by Legend can relate with you, at least with respect to him making it look easy-ish. :P

It's the easiest and fastest way to learn the gist of a faction I haven't played or don't know how to play.

They really should code a cooldown on repeat phrases in this game. Not every order needs a voice line if its the same as the previous one.
The funniest thing is that the Northern Provinces are recommended for new players.
Yeah, definitely campaign when you are going to fight against evil Dawi with funny hats, Villich, Skavens and Greenskins is noob friendly.
But you have Ogre friends if you do it right though honestly i normally play Ogres,Nurgle,or Dawi so can't speak much also have been trying to get into Kislev but until they do something with Kostatlyn and make his campaign more enjoyable its mostly been Mother Ostankya just wish she had lords more themed around her.
@@MultiMoe11 Those Ogres usually get smashed.
Of the base game factions it's probably the most noob friendly. The western provinces are more difficult than the northern provinces, kislev in general is pretty tough, and the demonic factions aren't the easiest either.
The Northern Provinces felt like a steam roll on Hard-Very Hard, maybe my campaign was an outlier.

The lag is definitely a Cathay terrain problem, I've never lagged as bad as fighting on their maps. The only other close contender is the Chaos Dwarves, but I'm pretty sure that's just their hobgoblins
Yeah I ran this game fine for ages then tried a sniktch campaign and couldn't believe how laggy the terrain was. Made me upgrade my GPU instantly lol
I do love these disaster campaign videos every now and then, even if (or maybe because) they're quite long. It's really interesting to see the progress and how you turn things things around.
I can pretty much confirm that it's the Cathay battle maps causing your lag, they're horribly optimised. The rice paddies in particular are infamous for tanking framerates.

Same here and I got like 300 hours of TWW played...
I used this against a friend in a multiplayer campaign recently. I knew he would set-up to nail my reinforcements. He was very disappointed and puzzled when they came in on the far side of the map from where he was expecting :D
Yep you can move them but it will change the time it takes for them to arrive depending on where you place them. I think it automatically chooses the fastest position by default.
I just played a Cathay campaign. For new players a few tips.
Mao Ying is not an easy campaign, and my least favorite cathay to play as.
Mao Ying is bad because of the Great Bastion threat, But also it has Vilitch, Norscan, Dark Dawi to the north, Angry Dark elves to the east, An angry Crocodile to the south east that will fight you as soon as the dark elf is dead, Orks and one of the worst Skaven to your south, The crappiest settlements to your west and your only reward for that is an angsty bro that hates you(try joining wars in exchange for treaties) or orcs, And without fail you will have atleast one beastmen herd spawn into your base around the time Vilitch and the rat decide to declare war on you. You really should play one of the other two cathay factions for a more enjoyable campaign. Also her starting province kind of really sucks.
Peasant units can be recruited for free within 10-20 turns with a 3 City province tier 3 settlement peasant building -60% -10% From a lord trait+ some more from skills -30%~ from harmony unbalancing. The settlements that your Yellow Cathay neighbor start with can reduce almost all recruitement to free if fully leveled. It is super easy to get a confederation with them if handled well. It is probably better if you do not confederate the Bastion Guardians until you are ready to start taking chaos wasteland.
Cathay Calvary is absolute trash, If you need anything of the sort use crowmen, you should never even build the calvary building. I have not seen a worse unit than Peasant calvary. Crowmen are glass cannons though, so really only engage with them as flankers or against Ranged units.
For lords Dragon blooded Shugengan is your best choice 90% of the time, Divine general 10% and Magistrate Never.(There is a lord trait that gives -10% building cost Use at risk of your own treasury.)
Grand cannons are awful, Jump immediately to Rockets. 1 Crane gunner is all you really need in an army, the rest should be Jade Crossbows(or celestial Guard Crossbows).
There is nothing wrong with peasants, But jade warriors will last a lot longer as front linemen.
Definetly use the building combo Legend showed you Yin(Black) Growth and White(Yang) Cash, +resource or building of your choice for the third slot. You will probably never have any problem with cash, and it keeps the settlement in Harmoney for +% cash.
The only faction easier to confederate than Cathay is Brettonia, so waging war on cathayans is generally not needed when playing as cathay. But getting the Yellow provinces earlier might be worth it(Mao Ying only). You can usually join a war against Gelt if he is in an alliance with another Cathayan.
If you need to get a tier 5 Settlement fast Unharmonize it with buildings towards Yin(Black)
It's what happened to me. On turn 12-13 both Snitch, Lokhir and Grimgor (strongest faction in the current match) declared war on me! Snitch always ambushes with additional armies, dark elves have very strong units in general and the orcs come in tides!
Cannon are really good though, they tear through both infantry and large unit.
@@bleizh_le_rat For sure, I would take them any day over certain other artillery *stares with disdain at Reaper bolt throwers* But they way under perform in comparison to the other Cathayan artillery. Even skyjunks are way better.

I think it's Cathay Battle maps causing FPS drop in general, they always did in my case.

@@robertc.5558 I have a much weaker rig 1660super i5 8600. Game usually runs alright for the past 1,5 years but Cathay and darklands campaign and especially battle maps are a slog, it probably tank yours too but you don't notice it due to have a relatively modern hardware

You Teng the Blind versus the Chorf mortars was the real highlight of this one. Legend sniggering like a Skaven every time one of those things landed right on top of the spicy shorts.
What the fuck happened that lead to Settra snowballing to strength ranking 1 with 34 settlements? I don't think I've ever seen TK do that well.

Even with the frames stuttering we all still continue watching, I think that is one of the biggest compliments, once he’s got his new pc as well I’m predicting another subscriber boom
increases in subscribers come from new content, typically a new game, patch or topic being covered. Just having less lag will likely not do it, though he will continue to grow at the rate of at least 2k/month as he has been.

The problem you encountered for the victory at 2:00:00 with the minor settlement battle is one I have encountered a lot in this game. Settlement battles have done this a lot to me and some Cathayan field maps too. Their units will act as if they're unspottable until you are practically dry humping them, even if they are units without stalk. It's complete BS and seems to be some bug, because I don't recall this problem when the game first came out or when Immortal Empires first came out.

Magistrates aren't anemic empire captains anymore and are actually worth having around usually rocking a peasant crap sack
I had them with a logma rider stack. You can boost them pretty hard.
They have best voice acting. So I WILL recruit them and I WILL send them to battle against Grimgore or Vilitch , and THEY WILL win.

hey legend when i'm kiting units with a hero I queue up movements with shift right click so I can forget about it a little longer than just issuing one command, might help there
Wait what?!? Settling a ruin with damaged units makes it more expensive. 2000 hours into the game and still learning new things.
that's because settling ruins costs a portion of your soldiers up to a certain amount based on size and then a flat rate of gold. Lets just say 2000 soldiers and 1000 gold for an example. If you cant make it to 2000 soldiers, then you have to pay extra gold to bring in settlers. Missing out on either makes the other go up.
In short: More soldiers, less gold. Less total soldiers=less soldiers given=more gold required.
Important Lesson in First Few Minutes:
The AI will wait for its reinforcements (even when attacking) if control large armies is enabled.
1:58:45 this reminds me of how grom kept turning invisible on the franz livestream, they did something in ToD that made you more hidden in settlement defense situations I think.

I love playing as miao ying, and fighting grimgor is just horrible. He always attacks and is one of the strongest factions. And if you try to take his land its 30 turns of fighting in the mountains where your guns are unreliable at best and a hindrence at worst.

bit weird they didnt build walls against the ogre mountains or southlands too, would have been nice to have something like the empire forts or the great bastion there aswell so you can really secure your cathay cities
The Great Wall of China didn’t cover the entire Chinese border, so neither would the Cathay Walmart version. 😅
well yeah i didnt expect it to, but it would make sense to protect themselves from the other enemies on their borders aswell wouldnt it? the empire has 2 forts into french territory (should be more tbh) and one into the south region, cathay meanwhile leaves their west and south open to ogres, greenskins, vampires, nurgle and whatever else decides to show up
@@Nightmare_52 Well, the Ogres and the like aren’t exactly enemies. Lore-wise, The Iron Dragon and The Overtyrant has got a bit of a bromance going on which means that Greasus sort of keeps the region safe and, more importantly, the caravans roaming safe.

Google is a good place to start since someone else who has had this problem will have had it explained to them in detail.
Go to "this PC" then C: then type "The Creative Assembly" in the search bar. It will find a folder with that name. Your game folders will be inside with the save data.
