Thanks a heap for doing this one bro, I tried a heap of different ways, my mistake was putting the artillery on the cliff. Also I hadn’t thought to use my skirmish units to draw units in early. Good watch, have learn a few things :)

The weirder thing is when autoresolve predicts a Heroic Victory. The autoresolver thinks it's likely you will have an unlikely victory.

@@wilma_balls Probably yes, I dont use sfo and I have seen that before, I play with other mods tho so might be another one changing it.
@@wilma_balls yes is does. It is just rare. I think it is more common when you have a small but overpowered army. Like a 5 hero army. I've had it happen to me at least twice.
Thoreks Quarreller doomstack and a tree men doomstack deliver heroic victories quite regularly when autoresolving.

Yep, that's a Wulfhart campaign.
I don't think it's normal. When Legends loads the savefile it says normal campaign difficulty. When I played as Wulfhart on normal, I got Vortex victory condition somewhere between turn 70-80.

I love the idea of an imperial campaign in lustria, although lizards are a tough enemy for them, but that mechanic is not only annoying but sometimes disrupting
The saddest thing, CA can easily fix the major issues with the mechanic if they wanted:
1. Make hostility only rise from battles in Lustria and make armies spawn only in Lustria.
2. Make hostility go DOWN from fighting Lizardmen's enemies in Lustria: Skaven and Vampire Coast.
3. Stop spawning enemy armies after winning the campaign (Vortex) or defeating Nakai and Itza factions (ME).

All jokes aside, squares are objectively better. The deeper formation has better stopping power against enemy cavalry and monsters, and the narrow formation leaves gaps on either side for ranged units to do their work.
The one time it's worse is if you're going up against an artillery-heavy comp

squares also adjust and maneuver much faster than lines.

I've never seen auto resolve fail, except my current campaign as the huntsmarshel on the vortex (Trying to quickly get the Very Hard campaign achievement for empire) where it feels like every auto-resolve against that popup faction is wrong. I suspect it is because the 25% bonus weapon damage isn't being taken into consideration for the projection, but does change the battle outcome?
You're probably right, to avoid messing with AI vs AI autoresolves
I suspect there are a number of things that auto resolve doesn't take into account. I'm playing hard Ikit Claw and every auto resolve that says decisive victory/low casualties is still taking 2 or 3 of my heroes... So frustrating I'm having to fight so many damn battles manually that I simply shouldn't have to fight because of this.
I've seen the new autoresolve fail as Clan Angrund vs. Eshin
Yeah I thought it never did until I was fighting wood elves. Pyrrhic Victory ass. Two full stacked armies completely wiped like bruh.

You control skill is amazing! It takes me several attempts to win such battles( And playing VH gets me addicted to slow speed. I just don't get it how to win some battles (with fliers &casters, & enemy cav) without slow speed. I'm good at strategies & its 250+ hours on this game. 1 legendary Karaz-a-Karak & then I understood that savegames are better then restarts- like alladin vs warcraft back in 95 ))
I've had a similar thing happen in my campaigns.
Autoresolve says I won't be losing any units in the autoresolve. My artilery be like: *Imma head out.*
Whether CA changes the autoresolve or not, it will never be fully reliable it would seem..

@@Skaitania Oh I yell at my archers for being fucking idiots all the time.For some reason today my default for archers was melee? Idk why it made me toggle back to ranged every time and it made me so mad, and I was calling my archers all sorts of things.
Side note: Eltharion's campaign, is it supposed to be a nonstop wave of greenskins annoying the shit out of you?
200 hours in, in my legendary reikland campaign 2 units of greatswords got wiped out against a stack of chaos when autoresolve claimed low casualties and no losses.
Its not like I mind though, they were confederated and I could recruit warrior priests at Praag, and halberdiers in 1 turn globally.
I also got this bug with the Hunstmarshal's Expedition, but I get it more often and more consistently with the Warriors of Chaos - specifically when I use their chariots, and never without them.
I've only ever seen auto resolve fail when dealing with the lizardmen, as markus wulfheart, whilst auto resolving in Lustria
That was Hard, at least they aren't all unbreakable like before.
Ooh, I hate Hexoatl and their stupid unbreakable rite. Such a pain early on as Pestilens.
I think it's stilly that the auto-resolve lied and said it would give you a victory and instead gave a valiant defeat. I mean I'd rather the auto-resolve involve some RNG (so you can sometimes win if the balance of power is like 7 to 8 in their favor) and not tell you the result, but if they're going to tell the result it should be truthful.

I think this is a glitch i played ghost of pahuax had a decicive victory against a settlement defence against 5 units with chamelon skink doomstack and it got whiped in autoresolve
There are definitely glitches, which is why I save the game each turn. People can call it "save scum" but when you're hundreds of turns in and find a bug its horrible if you don't have an uncorrupted file to revert to
@@jonathaneastman3d Absolutely. Resetting a total defeat when it said it should be a decisive victory definitely doesn't count as save scumming, in my eyes. I've had way too many games screw me over by just breaking, so I personally avoid modes that prevent saving. Fallout 4 Survival mode especially comes to mind.

Wulfhart campaign is one of the easier Legendary campaigns IF you abandon your starting province and rush to south west province and build from there.

I had a similar situation against a Skaven army in a Wood Elf campaign i played, Auto Resolve said it'd be a close victory and id lose 3 units, i got a decisive defeat from it...
This happened to me recently. It was just a garrison so I figured fuck it. Hit auto and lost my capital....
Penetrating war machines are horrible against monsters and monstrous units. They aren't accurate enough at long range, and they depend on model penetration to do most of their damage. Also cannons don't do enough damage to kill trolls and such with a single hit. They need to be shooting at elite infantry or any kind of cav, or any melee blob where you won't hit your own melee too much.
Cannons are seriously good at anti-infantry, but because they say they're anti-large, they get used wrong all the time. Especially for dwarfs, cannons>grudge throwers at anti-infantry roll. (Same tier, but grudge throwers are supposed to be anti-infantry). The one serious downside of cannons is the same as with all gunpowder units- LOS can be a pain.
(hell storm rocket batteries are still by far the better artillery though, but then- they are on the short list of 'contenders for best arty in game')
@@EagleScoutmano @EagleScoutmano Eh, I think to be better than grudge throwers the cannons need enfilade fire on a flank or a melee blob and/or be firing on something elite enough that has more than 75-80 HP so thrower explosive damage won't ohko models (which is maybe half the infantry in the game?). The Empire comparison between mortars and cannons is much more favorable to cannons than the Dwarves' grudge thrower/cannon choice since mortars lack AP. Although they are amazing in sieges and laser accurate for close in support after 5 or so ranks.
The only thing cannons beat rockets on is close-in fire support (if positioned right) and maybe, maybe shooting monsters & monstrous units if you are desperate. I keep a mortar unit around sometimes and replace any cannons with rockets for sure.
Meanwhile helblasters feel like they are hardly an upgrade over handgunners most of the time.
Strangely, I have a similar bug whenever I'm fighting against Sigvald's army. Auto-resolve always tells me that Sigvald has as much of a chance as a snowball in hell to survive this, yet he wipes out my army everytime. This happened even when he went against my full max lvl pompous skink priest army with nothing more but two marauder units.
I don't know what's wrong there, this never happens with anyone except for Sigvald. Couldn't find any reports of the same bug from other players, though.

Honestly I think this is just as hilarious as the one time I sent Thorgrim to save Karak Izor by reclaiming it, I planned to siege it out with just Thorgrim, alone, (I was playing Belegar and confederated Thorgrim since he was losing), and the garrison marched and somehow the autoresolve said Heroic victory, so I hit autoresolve and somehow Thorgrim on his own can defeat a tier 4 Karak Izor garrison completely and only lose half hp. Yeah I don't understand it either. He was only level 17.

lol makes me almost wonder if this is a "Hunt's Marshal"-only issue (due to the special buff ALL enemies get when the hostility gets too high?)?

happens with all factions randomly though I am unable to find a cause, check some of your "decisive victories" with no losses in auto resolve I often find after you auto resolve it a unit dies that it didn't tell you about, for me it's nearly always a single entity like a tomb scorpion.
I just bought this game today but without all the dlc wayn too expensive but I understand now why this game is such an hype, and why people stop playing historical games after this

I was on the different side of this. Snikch attacked my T3 garrison with a full stack and auto resolve said it would be a valiant defeat. I auto-resolved and got a win without losing a singly unit. Weird shit.
But Legend, garrison troops have families!
That will be brought out to replace them.

i get it all the time have my army wiped on a good auto so i always save then come back and the auto works like it said but i also get basic armies attacking me with harf stacks with trash units and the auto telling me ill get wiped and im like what get in to the battle and i walk over them it all when ass up after the last patch i fine if the army has a bit of cav then they get ridiculous BOP
Strange, normally auto-resolve is correct on the outcome 100% of the time for me. At least ever since they changed it to show it as a definite outcome rather than that bar it used to be.

Ok I'm probably stupid I admit it! But I can't understand at all how to make the card with the statistics on the life points, kills, etc etc of the units appear during the battle! How the hell can I do?

None of the saurus units are in a tight formation, nor could they be. Basically only skink base-units are.
