Being a fixer is a serious problem, because when we help, we expect people , to show appreciation by improving.
very true! i'm a fixer and now that you mention it, i get upset when people i try to fix dont change, i find it disrespectful almost. i will be accepting people for who they are this year and not expect anyone to change for me or for what i think they should be even tho my intentions are good
but improving is the least they can do. Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t see why that’s a problem.

I am Kathy. I literally just told a friend yesterday, "I am sorry, I've done all I can for you". And it still eats me alive how she doesn't use all the tools I've given her to get herself out of the bad situation.

As we come off last weeks topic about the Maya Angelou coin.. one of my fav sayings by her is “ when someone shows you who they are, believe them “ & I think for many of us whether relationships or friendships… we feel the need to somewhat look at people as projects and not human… we can’t make people conform to fit our bubble of perfection so they can only meet our needs and make us happy ! That’s why communication and empathy is important in any relationship in life… sometimes we’re not always gonna see the best in people even if we want to see the good and ignore the bad ! Doesn’t make you a bad person for being around them or it doesn’t make them a bad person just cuz they might have certain energy… just don’t make it a habit to always ask , seek or be eager to want to see change cuz then when u don’t get what u want you’ll end in up in disappointment! That’s why like Garcelle I made the mental note ( years ago ) to be low maintenance within my life and not put pressure on myself or others when to comes to that so I meet them where they’re at !

I'm like Adrienne and it's not because you don't care it's because you are always working to make yourself a better human and also you shouldn't be meddling in everyone's business because then it becomes draining.You're not Jehovah and we can't fix everything. I don't see anything wrong with a confidant, but it is not our personal responsibility to fix someone else. I've learned this in the past three years the hard way because as an older sibling you do try and fix things or make sure everyone is happy or try and encourage,but bad things happen to your health when you don't take the time to fill your cup and fix YOUR things. Im definitely a people fixer, but that's mainly bc ive watched so many people around me go through some of the worst hardships, that would also affect my life, so the fear of bad things happening makes me have that mentality. But the older i got, the more i learned that people have to want to help themselves first. The other part would be just genuinely wanting people to be their best selves bc they have the potential.

I'm more like Ade. .tending to my life is a full plate...no way I have time to meddle in others. I will lend an ear if need be and I offer advice if they ask for it.. outside of that it's none of my business.

I’m a fixer but not for the same reasons everyone else has. I’m really empathetic so other peoples problems I tend to absorb myself so if I don’t help I start to feel it for myself, and if I let them go without trying I get an intense feeling of guilt and shame.
Yeah.. that's my uncle-in-law and it stems from him trying to control everyone. He is old school and the patriarch of the family. Sure, he's very helpful, dependable, and dutiful but he is also manipulative. His way is the right way and only way. He make suggestions that benefits him. He controls almost every life aspect of the people in his household. No exaggeration. It's creepy.
I have a family member who is a fixer and it can be annoying sometimes because they're always in my business. They get mad and don't listen when I tell them I don't need help. It can be frustrating when ppl don't respect boundaries.

This is actually textbook co-dependency. Co-dependent people find their own self worth in feeling and being needed. So they’re more likely to seek out a project. And this makes makes them susceptible to narcissistic people.
It’s clear that Adrienne is more of an introvert then the other ladies… and that’s ok!

Sometimes you should give up
There are also fixer that have a lot of ego for thinking that THEY will sove the situation nobody was able to; and those that fix with the hope of being appreciated and feel worthy of other's attention
I feel like people who always want to fix others, are people who look for issues they have in others, for the sake of fixing it. Instead of working on themselves, they find people who mirror their issues.
I really like Kathy. I think she would make a good addition to the show
MA has always been one of my favorite poets and such wisdom within not just context, substance. Can not deny truth of those words when pattern follows behavior reality of people's actions. People will show u how to treat them whether good or bad however I believe control would allow a person to participate or not

I understand you Kathy. For me if I am ASKED for help I feel obligated to. But it’s frustrating when it’s clear the effort is one sided. I’m taking away time from myself to help you and you are not taking any steps. When ever I stop though I’m told I’m selfish, a bad friend, or the blame is put on me for the problem they put themselves in!!! I’m trying to work on what Garcelle said. Match energy.
I believe if you take control it's just giving a helping hand if you can handle it

People who don’t know how to help or to treat someone who is going through addiction should not attempt to do so. You are not equipped for the task. Addicts need PROFESSIONAL help and if your help is anything other than encouraging them to seek professional help, you will fail.

Im a fixer.. but not to medel in ppl's business or control them. If i see someone doing something unknowingly that might hurt them .. when i could just say something to help.. i would speak up.. whether they listen to me or not. One time i heard my co worker say something to a customer which was completely wrong (turns out she did it purposely to get the person out of her face) but i honestly thought she didnt know.. and i thought.."well lemme give her this helpful tip" .. she reported my ass to the supervisor to say i was medelling and out of my place. I was shocked, but i never did that again.. To me, not saying something when I could be helpful is the most selfish thing i could do.

Dating someone intending to marry them if you married I think people should grow together and I'm talking about integrity and character and I think you should share your readings of what you're reading with them because if not someone's going to get left behind and most people blame it on money but money is a small percentage of why marriages in it's usually because people going in different directions spiritually mentally and psychologically let's just say when you were younger you could drink and got high some people no longer wish to do that foolishness you said yourself we come on with 35 almost 40 it's time to change your life
