Had a former co worker who told me he was a felon after going out to eat after work. I appreciate the humility and transparency as friends. Today we have been married almost 5 years and we are open about any and everything.

I agree with Loni. By the time we arrange for our first in person date, trust and believe I will have had a lot of in depth phone conversations. If I only text back and forth with a guy, he's in the friend zone. But phone calls....that means I want to get to know him deeper.

Someone revealed that to me on the first date, that and that he has multiple children. He even went as far as to explaining what the felony was for. I figured his thought process was, "let's get the hard part out of the way first and see how she responds". It did take me by major surprise, but I respected him for that and we are still together. He is a terrific man!

I’d definitely want to know asap! But I agreed with Munchkin, I wouldn’t judge u. And it also depends what the felony is for fr because I’m a firm believer in people changing. I’ve been convicted for petty theft years ago, I don’t steal now, I actually wouldn’t dare, and I’ve changed my life around & gave it to god❤️

I am glad a gentleman I met many years ago revealed to me his felony history on our first date. I believe he told me why and I was able to make an informed decision for our future. I don’t remember the charges but it let me know that our lifestyles weren’t compatible. We amicably parted ways. It made me run background checks on every man I dated thereafter.

LADIES! Always do a Google search and background check before you go on any date. I found out someone was a sex offender (found out before the date). You do NOT want to be raped, killed or put in a bad position on a date

I'm married but I tell all my single friends to ask " can you vote?" And "did you vote?".. I agree on the first date is a bit much on the first date.
That doesn't apply for every state. Felons can indeed vote where I am from so this question wouldn't necessarily work for everyone.

@@thecurator2626 Ohio is another. There are too many to name. Only about 9 states do not allow felons to vote.

Definitely wait until the second date but yes just like I’ll like to know their std status, I really want to know if and the reasoning behind it. Also, what Loni said before you date make sure you’re conversing through texts and phone calls. A good month or so. Get to know each other. Once you secure that second date prepare to tell the truth. The truth will set you free.
I want to know and would actually prefer knowing BEFORE we have a first date. You're a convicted felon, you're out, you've paid your debt to society so to speak. But I dated a man who was the head of prisons and he was frank about what happens inside amongst the inmates. I cannot handle being with a man who has faced that brutality, which includes forced sexual situations. There are also the realities of how ex-convicts are treated with employment. This means, he would most likely never be able to provide near or at the same level as I would need. His credit wouldn't be as helpful in us building something together.

To that I say, "First, just call me Braxy. 😁" And, second, I am in my 50's now so NOTHING is "JUST" a date. The purpose of every date is to enjoy the company, get to know that person, with the intention of seeing if there is a possible foundation for the future. If you were a felon, for all the reasons I've mentioned, we won't have a future together. So why bother?"
I understand why some women deny having kids. There’s a lot of sick people out here and there are men who prey on single mothers to get access to small children. So yeah continue to lie and then break it to him. Better safe than sorry.

I'm on the fence with that. I would like to know, but I understand why he didn't disclose right away. I dated a violent felon I knew from day one. We dated for two years and then he moved out of state, so we broke up. Cathy got the 🍵

Maybe I'm naive but I'd assume somebody will come up with this information even prior to the date, on phone calls for example but if it's a definitely a bad look and you waited more days to pass, let say more than 4/5 dates and including phone calls and you haven't drop the news, after that for me it's a wrap because you had the opportunity and about mistake I need someone to own up to them
maybe second date but I understand if someone doesn’t want to disclose that on the first date bc that’s personal & they might never see your ass again. now if you ask & they lie, that’s different. honesty goes a long way!

True story. Guy takes girl on a 1st date. Girl is telling a story about college days and says "i spent two years in Princeton, i can survive anything." Dude hears "i spent two years in prison, i can survive anything." He just rolled with it, no raised brow, nothing! When they discovered the mistake, she's horrified that he thought that of her. He was just like "hey, it takes all sorts to make the world go round!🤷♂️" 🤣🤣

I personally feel that unless it was something crazy, one's past is no one's business. Get to know who the person is NOW. You get the benefits of someone who has rehabilitated their lives. Unless they're still doing illegal things that's no one's business. Also can we stop referring to people who have made a mistake, done their time, and paid their dues as felons? They are human beings, the only difference is they made a bad decision which led them to a sentence at a court.

I agree with Lonis point but let’s say for example it was like a blind date arranged by a friend. Unpopular opinion, I don’t think you are entitled to reveal that on the first date and here’s why I feel like going on a date is me figuring out if I like you if I even wanna go on a second one first dates to me I just want to see what the vibe is and to see if I even care to go on a second one. So I feel like if after the first date you go home and you say to yourself I really like that person I would love to see them again and go on a second date I feel like the next phone conversation should reveal that because you don’t want to just go around telling every person that you’re convicted felon and then it goes nowhere you don’t even see them after the first date and now the whole damn city know your business.

Yeah not on the first date, I want transparency in a relationship but I also wanna enjoy myself and have fun and not be paranoid that much. I think the 2nd date is the right time. Like Adrienne I would probably jokingly bring it up like "thats okay its not like youre a convicted felon" but i would say that on the 2nd date lmao.
