Depends on the nickname. Sometimes, nicknames are cutesy. Sometimes, they’re based on an event/occurrence, which can usually be from a negative experience.
There’s also those people that use nicknames for their friends with “ethic” names. Like, they don’t even try it with your real name and just use a nickname instead. Like, no. That’s not okay.
Well sometimes the friend with the ethnic name is okay with it because it gets annoying when people constantly butcher your name.
Her nickname should be “K Mills” since she’s a millionaire 🤷🏾♂️lol

I was wondering that about her and Jeannie’s nicknames both. Beans or whatever it was. I can’t speak for them and I believe Loni means it affectionately but what if they called her a nickname related to her physical attributes? I think nicknames should steer clear of referencing peoples’ body types - especially with so many people having insecurities about those parts of themselves they cannot change.

I can't speak for her, but as a fellow short person I can't imagine she'd be upset about being reminded of her height. She's reminded of it as she moves through daily life. Muchkin just annoys me as a viewer because it's juvenile.

I do not appreciate nicknames one bit. I let people know up front, but especially if they ask for my permission. A young co-worker asked if she could, and I told her I would have to approve it 1st. She never did it. Family who loves me can, but still depends on what the name is.

Same! If we are not very close don't give me a nickname and don't give my kid a nickname either. For me it's because people tend to want to take a short cut and instead of learning to pronounce your name they want to give you a nickname.

Learning someone's preferred is a sign of respect. Also, the history of slaveowners changing people's names makes me resist nicknames too. Most people who try to give me one do not look like me...
