I watched you as a young boy in your White High top Converse and followed your legendary Coaching Career. Not many people make an impact on me other than my tough late Father, but you certainly did. You did it right Coach Sloan and cannot express the happiness you gave me watching the Utah Jazz thru your entire career. I really enjoyed your no nonsense approach, loved how you protected your players....Thank You, RIP#tough#legend
I live near Jerry Sloan's small Southern Illinois hometown, McLeansboro. It's a tiny quaint Midwestern farm town with a beautiful town square. When you get on the outskirts you see an amazing highschool, something that would be found in a wealthy suburb. It's there thanks to Jerry Sloan and his generosity. Truly a great man!!
I grew up in Utah and it was so much fun growing up with the Jazz as I got to watch them build their team into an almost championship roster, only Michael Jordan stood in their way. The early days when it was Frank Layden coaching and the best guys on the team were Mark Eaton, Darrell Griffith, Ricky Green, Adrian Dantley, Thurl Bailey, Bobby Hansen and Rich Kelley I had a lot of fun watching being a yonngster. Once Sloan took over I was almost driving so I was at that stage of playing a lot of basketball myself in high school so it was such an exciting time to see the development of Stockton and Malone. I wish they would've kept Dantley but I understood why they traded him. But I have some saved old school news clips from when Sloan took over and he was so young and vibrant compared to his older coaching years and that is fun to go back and watch. I always liked how he was so no nonsense and didn't take a lot of crap and never let his teams get out of control. When my family got cable TV around 85 we got WGN in Chicago and TNT in Atlanta so I was so spoiled being able to grow up with Stockton and Malone in my home town and I got to tune into every Bulls & Hawks game to watch Jordan and Wilkins play. It was a different world as far as broadcast sports was concerned back then so to be able to have access to those games in that time was unbelievable. When ever I think of Jerry Sloan and the Jazz all those memories pop up for me. I wish Jerry could've made it a little longer but I am glad he got the time that he did for a lot of us he brought a lot of joy to our lives.
I'll miss his rampages from the sidelines. His tirades were legendary. He must have got thrown from more games than any other coach I've seen lol. He was a great coach. RIP
RIP Jerry Sloan! True legend of the game in all respects. I bet a lot of people don’t know, but he was just as good as a player as he was a coach! His #4 is retired with the Bulls from his playing days. R.I.P to a Utah Jazz and Chicago Bull great

So sad...I was a HUGE Bulls fan in the 1970s...Sloan, Van Lier...hope they are in Paradise playing pick up games and drawing charge fouls.
