He was lucky he had Stockton and Malone who bought into his system and allowed him to coach them in his tough old school style.....after they were gone there was a young punk star player on the Jazz that caused Sloan to quit due to him not liking Sloan's style of coaching....

As a Lakers & Bulls fan, I grew up cheering against Jerry Sloan. But life is bigger than sports. And this just breaks my heart because even though I spent years cheering against him, now I’m cheering FOR HIM. Much love & respect Coach Sloan. ✌🏾💜

I live in SLC and remember 10 years ago going into an Italian restaurant that is now closed at the gateway. Myself and a date were sat down. Jerry was in a booth right next to us wearing glasses and studying a book alone. I’m not a basketball player by any means, but I just didn’t want to let him down at any cost, even just sitting at a table next to him. So we didn’t say anything to him, and we didn’t say anything to each other. We sat there quietly so we wouldn’t distract him. Rest In Peace coach.

I get kind of emotional from seing this as my dad, who is the same age af Jerry Sloan, also has parkinsons and dementia. Like Jerry, he devoted his life to his sport, which was golf. My dad has coached some of the greatest talents in danish golf history and was honored 5 star PGA golf trainer of the year in Europe in 1995. First person in Denmark to ever win that. Golf is still fresh in his memory eventhough his diseases have weakened him a great deal. He however is still as amazing, positive, unselfish and kind as he always was. As time now may have caught up to him, I will forever be greateful of how wonderful of a dad and person he was. My heart goes out to Jerry and his loved ones as well. Keep respecting, love and admire the man and show him gratitude while you still can.

You are the best Jerry Sloan, I would watch you play with the bulls,as I was a hawks fan. Pistol Pete said he hated playing against you, cause you were so darn tough. I hope you know I enjoyed every game you played and coached.
I loved watching your intensity; Tough as Nails. Please keep fighting, you are my hero Coach Sloan; so darn tough!!!

Always knew how great a coach he was. Frank Layden who proceeded Jerry in Utah was also a great coach and a terrific interview. The Jazz never seem to get over the hump but they usually have a very competitive team. They had a real shot to beat the Bulls.
