Staying with one organization for so long is a testament to what kind of person he is and how you just wouldn't want to get rid of him. And you have the audacity telling someone they're not a Lakers fan.
Why, do you have the standard template to be genuine fan?
Phil is the NBA GOAT in coaching championship-wise.
Thankfully, there are other ways to be great.
Why punish Pop for being loyal to one franchise?
Pop is better than Pat Riley, and don't zero in they share the same number of titles.

As a Celtics fan, I wasn't around for Red. Phil Jackson is my second go to.... but Popovich has commanded so much respect, so long. He not only commands respect through discipline and hard work, he strives to make his players & staff better people. You can see it in Becky Hammon's speech, how much Gregg means to her personally.

I think it is totally okay to let people be in the hall of fame during their career. After losing Kobe, life is too short to put a time limit on when people should be honored because of years. Players included, I get there is a line waiting but in real life, the person who is more important to culture gets to cut in line at a club. We never got a Kobe Speech and I think as basketball fans we deserved that. Glad he has been coaching so long he is actually allowed to be active.

I think the restrictions on being able to be in the HOF are not fair to the players or people watching. Kobe had a HOF career by the end of his 07 season averaging 36 points. Others have done the same but life is too fickle. Remember Chris Bosh had to retire early too and we were lucky not to lose him but he deserved the HOF after his last chip with the heat. If you are legendary in a child’s eyes, then you should be able to speak to them on a platform where they see you worked your ass off to get where you were even if still playing.

He was the nucleus of my favorite team of all times growing up. The Spurs were a art form to watch with this big three and Pop.

Playing in san antonio. On wurzbach, was wear i feel in love with basketball. Watching the spurs growing up. Moving out to bulverde in high school and getting to meet the "ice man" while working at HEB before i left for the army. That team and this man has ment so much to some nerd such as myself. Congrats Pop.

I can’t believe he gave seattle a shoutout during his speech. I think that is so damn cool.
I hated those spurs teams growing up but came to really respect coach pop and the constant success of the organization. Well deserved.

Great speech. I'm surprised Pop wasn't the headliner in this Hall of Fame class.

A Great speach. Let it be known that we all have people who WORK on our behalf to achieve success. WE cannot do it on our own, nor do we deserve all the accolades of greatness. As Pop said, "I am blessed." I don't know if he knows what that word means exactly, but nobody can be blessed unless God is the one who does it.

Coaching is not about chasing records, it’s about forging relationships. When you have a team working together and helping each other towards one goal, good results will follow.

    “I’m a division 3 guy, that’s real basketball”
And you can tell with how he coached his guys and the schemes he ran the entire time in the league how he took the different path of winning around a team vs winning around 1-2 stars.

Pop would be a hof coach if he retired 10 years ago even before the 2014 championship. Hes a legend and I hope he gets to lead the new look spurs to playoff success before retiring. Won't be surprised if hes still a coach at 80+

It's true, in life there will always be X's and O's, formula for success. Life is not about those, it's about the relationships you build and friendship you make. 100% true.
