    That macbook battery comparison is unfair, apples battery reduction is not even, it slows down the percentage reduction during the initial drain and reduces battery faster when it reaches lower percentages. So basically they are tricking the user to think that macbooks have better battery life. If you let it completely run out of juice, you can see both drain out almost equally.

    • @MrPtheMan
      @MrPtheMan Месяц назад +1

      Unexcited until they fix compability issues and drivers for external devices.
      The launch price was absurdly stupid. They compared Apple to justify all OEMs the exuberant price. But it doesn't have the encoders or accelerators of the M series.
      Plus, MacOs have always had a premium price, and Apple has Metal. On the GPU side, Apple regarless of what chip configuration, it always has the best software acceleration per silicon. But on Windows, it's Nvidia monopoly CUDA, so you get very bad performance just by that CUDA graphics framework locked to Nvidia.
      Apple is just in another league, that's why you will always hear it's an ecosystem. Talking down CUDA is overdue. Hopefully, in the upcoming years, something happens in that regard.

    • @JustifyJustin
      @JustifyJustin Месяц назад +1

      @@MrPtheManAre you implying that Apple silicon can compete with a dedicated Nvidia GPU laptop?

    • @MrPtheMan
      @MrPtheMan Месяц назад +1

      @JustifyJustin Nope never did, I said clearly, referring to software framework acceleration. Metal is one Apple, and CUDA is another one, Nvidia. Software acceleration is everything, and believe or not, Metal is superb well optimized for M silicon. Hence the comment best software performace per silicon. M3 Max depending on the benchmark, is a 4070 or a 4080 competitor while using less energy.
      But again, consider the form factor of the 4080 or 4090 and energy consumption. You can't fit it in a laptop or a case equivalent to a Mac Studio.
      The number one reason that mostly pro consumers avoid AMD gpus is CUDA, the lack of it. Again, it's a Windows monopoly.
      If you compare the 4090 as in Mount Everest size vs. Qualcomm integrated GPU, the X Elite GPU. it's not even an ant. You need the most powerful microscope to see the X Elite chip to compare it to Nvidia.
      Even if they try to improve their Graphics, CUDA is a roadblock.
      The only way I see this monopoly ending is by MS doing something about it and blocking CUDA. Idk Apple calls it's framework Metal, maybe if they do Wental? 🤣
      But it's never happining, the only ones that can leverage this issue are AMD and Intel, by trying an open standard.
      Qualcomm fanboys, consider the product overpriced, and the big OEMS, including Qualcomm, wanted to push the price as an Apple product. It's not, only the CPU part and it has compability issues, and let's not talk about driver compability for external devices, that s*&t is broken.

      I owned an earlier Surface Pro (5) ended up selling it for an iPad Pro, ended up selling the iPad Pro because it was awful for pro work tasks, ended up back on Surface Pro 11 and I'm loving it. iPad Pro was really good for consumption tasks and drawing, but I had to RDP into my office windows computer to actually get work done on it..

    • @ricarmig
      @ricarmig Месяц назад +5

      There is no comparison, the Surface Pro has a full desktop OS, expandable SSD (and until it was x86 even eGPU support). So, everything is possible. With the iPad Pro everything the opposite and has LOTS of limitations (due to Apple usual limitations, extremely increased with the mobile OS).
      As I said tons of times, full keyboard/mouse/desktop apps compatibility would be needed to make the iPad Pro worth the money and the hardware it has. Until then, unless you really need and have the apps on iPadOS (pencil/touchscreen), I would look elsewhere.
      There reason why the standard iPhone and iPad have 60 Hz it’s just to bother you and make you buy the Pro even if you “just want an iPhone/ iPad”. They know that, if the iPad/iPhone had a 90/120 Hz screen, few would buy the Pro. I did the opposite, I bought a Samsung Tab and now have for the iPad Air’s price a much better overall tablet.

      But that crazy memory price even exists on another area, and you don't even care.. because the SSD also more expensive compare to the HDD.. and just the basic M4 have 120GB/s transfer speed, which not even a dual channel DDR5 laptop have (not to mention not too much proper dual channel DDR5 laptop.. because you need 2 of the same RAM stick for that, to avoid the unefficient work when the different latency and response time just slow down the other memory too..)
      So if you conpare the basic DDR5 speed, with moderate clock speed (so not high end,because those drain too much power and generate too much heat too..) than it's about a 30-40GB/s vs 120GB/s.. (or even 400GB/s in M3 Max laptops..), and that 3-4x speed difference basicaly is the same like the early SSD had, 150MB/s HDD vs 550MB/s (SATA3) SSD.. and even that SSD was more expensive like HDD.. so why do you expect the same price here? • @shrimpgordita
      @shrimpgordita Месяц назад

      I went to Best Buy yesterday and looked closely at both. The SL7 feels much more premium with it's metal design, it but feels significantly heavier. The screen on the S7x is much nicer, but the 16:10 aspect ratio is a big letdown. The SL7's 3:2 aspect ratio makes content feel much less cramped. I thinik all laptops under 15 inches should use 3:2. The SL7's trackpad is much better, but I preferred the S7x's keyboard. it has better travel. Iwould probably buy the $1000 base model SL7, and then upgraded the SSD. My only hesitation is the SL7 has a bit of blurring when scrolling around, and the value is so much worse than the S7x.

I am surprised no one has mentioned this in their reviews...I confirmed it wasn't just my computer by looking at demo models at Best Buy. Anyway, even though its 120Hz the ghosting really takes away from the display feeling sharp and quick. Otherwise it is an incredible machine, even without an OLED.

      No it can not, no drivers, and if you do anything with graphics especially gaming you will be very disappointed. Even Linux x86 currently has better game compatibility then ARM as a whole under Proton right now including vs Apple. ARM support by dev's is slowly gaining traction, but is not their yet. Printer drivers are also surprisingly bad on Windows on ARM right now too for some reason from what I have seen in reviews. If you need to do anything with graphics, your better off getting a ZenBook OLED or something with Thunderbolt with eGPU support. Or one with a dedicated graphic chip. Many laptops have integrated RTX/AMD graphics cards under $1000, though you will not be getting that 10Hr battery life!

    In the UK, the Surface Laptop 15-inch with 32GB of RAM is £2150, without an OLED or miniLED display and a GPU found in sub-£800 laptops, so it is a tough buy. The 13-inch does not have a 32GB option. Hard to recommend. I would wait 3-6 months as this will face AMD, M4 and Intel 2024 releases soon, and that should make these less desirable as they get stomped all over. Could see 50% off for a secondhand one by then. With no takers, I already see £350 off a new Galaxy Book4Edge 14-inch (sealed) on eBay.

    Every Qualcomm is a POS there is no good snapdrago.
    I have some idea why creators are pushing arm, probably to inspire competition, but X elite is a lie.
    it doesn't come close to this year's bottom Apple CPU, it barely beats last year's bottom apple CPU, and even last year's worst Apple CPU beats the GPU on the Qualcomm POS.
    X doesn't beat last year's x86, and this year's x86 is more efficient, beating the best Qualcomm POS when set to draw the same amount of power.
    On top of all of that it's exponentially overpriced, I can buy a far better laptop, better CPU, 40 gigs of RAM, 1 TB SSD, 800 dollars.
    16 gigs of RAM was too little to years ago, this year bass can configuration needs to be 32 gigs unless it's an inexpensive low-end laptop
