    I know the fix ended up being simple, but that's some great troubleshooting right there

    You could usually put a smoke machine where the purge valve goes and either cap the vent valve or use scan tool and close it . And smoke should pressurize in the system and be visible. But this works too shows all the possible components. Love it 👍

    I was actually glad that you went through the entire system, so that we could see the entire system!👍🏾

    This was a through explanation of the system. However you did not include a check of the fuel pump gaskets or O rings. Also funny you saw the gas cap early with the crack in the seal and in the end you found that to be the problem. Great video!!!

    Great to show the complete system, Chris. 90% of this code is related to the tank cap. The big rubber o-ring will decay over time and starts leaking. My 2009 e93 had that problem too. Thanks for sharing this procedure. Have a great weekend. Dutch regards, Nico.

    Dude, you really did a fantastic job breaking the system down. I especially liked the way you drew it out. Definitely helped me understand. I know it turned out to be the gas cap, but you were very thorough and explained it well. Two Thumbs up and another subscriber!!!!

    Nice video, very thorough. New to BMWs and now have my first DMTL fault code. During forum research i found step 1 was to check/replace gas cap. Did this, code remained. Confirmed via stealership the DMTL pump was reportedly the issue. Replaced with OEM part myself and "saved" 700.00 in service fees (850 for BMW to do job), fault code remained. Took it off and rechecked hoses, connectors, wires, and pump. All appeared fine, altough i did not open wire harness, looked too clean. After further research found the car needed to be driven awhile to clear DMTL code after pump swap and should clear after the car is turned off and the DMTL cycle is completed, did this and code lingers. Then, found this to be a common issue from other frustrated owners whom struggle with clearing the code. Apparently will need software/BMW scan tool to clear code and try again. Your video was informative for my next go-round. Although, i love the Bimmer, shes making me think of selling her and buying something less complex and pricey to maintain. I love her, but geeez is it silly to dish out so much cash and time for seemingly simple maintenance issues. Plus, seems the maint. schedule prompts for service far too often for a high-end, supposedly well-built, 7 series. Car in great shape, 60K miles, yet do not feel confident in her. Also found out no OEM jack or spare provided, by design?? WTF.. so.. now i too get to stress on getting a flat and being stuck in a fancy, heavy paperweight 🤦‍♂️ Maybe oh maybe i made a mistake seeking The Ultimate Driving Experience. Hoping not.

      telling you this now. most cars now are this complicated if not more. if you like bmws stick with them, learn their systems. alot of procedures are the same on a billion different bimmer models. hell what this guy is doing on his x5 is the exact same as what i'm doing on my 5 series that's 3 years newer. just location of the canister is a little different. don't rip your hair out now buddy because cars are NOT getting simpler AT ALL

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  Год назад +1

      This is a common issue when the charcoal canister has failed. It acts as a filter for outgoing air, so if it's "clogged up" or old, it will not let the air out of the fuel tank fast enough for the gas to come in, so it backs up the filler neck and trips the safety circuit on the gas pump. Hope that makes sense!

My mechanics baffled, I'm baffled even the place in Germany that helped flash the ECM is scratching his head. Can I clone it, repair it, or is there anything else you know of??

      Have you checked the wiring? Does the pump make noise when running the test procedure in INPA? Did you replace the seal on the pump to the canister? Maybe there's a hole or crack in the dmtl pipes that go to your gas tank. Hope that points you in the right direction, good luck and update us when you figure it out!

    • @rcao99
      @rcao99 Год назад +1

      @@TheBimmerBarn FInally I got my inpa cable and inpa installed, it reads 140 error and 142 error, something about DMTL reed-valve not closed... I also ran the dmtl test and valve test, no sounds coming from the rear-left wheel well, sounds like a wiring issue (because I just replaced the DMTL pump and I tested it with 9v batter and it seems worked), but I have carefully checked all the wires coming to the pump nothing seems broken, is there a fuse somewhere? or any idea locating a faulty wire. Thanks

    I got a 2A18 code, it says DMTL Diagnosis Module Tank Leakage, Heating: Input Signal. Does the DMTL pump have a heating element? I was wondering if this was a connection issue although what do you think? Anyone had this code before?

      turns out it was disconnected the whole time, i reconnected it and now i am getting P2419, P2401, and P240A codes lol, I tried testing the pump using INPA and the heater turns on and off fine although when I go to activate the pump or the valve it flashes on and immediately turns off again. Not sure if that means it activated successfully or it failed to stay "on/open". Any suggestion? 07 335i@@TheBimmerBarn

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  Год назад

      Just a quick google tells me that's possible an Air/Fuel ratior problem, or bad oxygen sensor. The description might be more accurate if you scanned it with something for BMW's, and then I would go from there! Hope that helps :)

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  Год назад

      2A12 is a DMTL solenoid valve code, probably the first component (the purge valve) we looked at. The only other valve in the system is built into the dmtl pump itself, so I'd look at those two places!
