MP3 players really went the way of the calculator, from being expensive, heavy, dedicated devices to becoming a gimmicks in watches, pens and whatever to just being an app.
I'm 100% in the minority here but I will always defend having an actual calculator on hand, at least if you're the kind of person that regularly needs a graphing calculator. (I'm a student, sue me) Even old calculators are always a better experience than any app like Desmos. Maybe I just have the same passion for being able to punch numbers that Dank has for critical listening

I once had a microphone pen that I had gotten from Thailand. It was pretty much the same, except it was all black, lacked the buttons on the side, and had a bigger power button on the top where the headphone jack on the MP3 pen is. The manual also had the word "elephant" in it.
Tip: if you have a pen that has dried out, try using a lighter and lightly move it along the pen. It’ll free up the ink and make it usable again. Though in some cases it’s not a permanent fix.

Jokes aside, would it really be able to fit a 3.5mm one? It does look like it's mini jack is already against the lipo cell and the 3.5 might go over it. Or, if it fits, be too close in case someone stabs hard the headphone jack, dislodging it and puncturing the cell.
I can imagine this appealing to students: rocking out in class and when teacher comes to take your player away you go: What you mean? It's my pen! How am I supposed to study without a pen?!
This nugget is a perfect example of how crap early 2000s to ~2010 electronics were. Literally manufactured e-waste and so were most of the garbage iPod and phone accessories of the time. I remember whatever cheap-ish gadget I got as a kid not lasting more than 2 weeks in the best case, unless it was something like a Panasonic or Sony caliber brand.

Yup. I just found one on the ground; thought it was pretty neat back then. 2 months later it died. To this day I still can't figure out why it died - even with new batteries and not a sign of liquid damage it never turned on again. No dead caps, no leaky batteries, no corrosion.

I bought one of these long time ago. From a Chinese website! The ones I got had 1GB storage and a FM Radio! Ended up replacing the small socket with a conventional sized one. In the end it was just used as flash card storage after all it was a gigabyte in storage though slow storage. It was great for recording meetings! Other than that total e-waste today! Yea my battery pack still works in the one I have here still total e-waste today!

I guess that recording classes via a pen that is used in the same time to transcribe the notes is a terrible idea. You'll probably end up with shitty quality of recording with a lot sounds of scratches from transciribing.

Ok, so I definitely had one, and it had trouble with the button from time to time, but I absolutely LOVED this thing. I didn't use it for writing, it was more just because it was unique, and incredibly compact.
This is one of the inventions nobody ever asked for… Like the pasta shield, head umbrella, feet lamp, armour plated swimsuit, etc.
