My all time favorite band. I've seen them 5 times and this particular song is one of my favorites and one that I blast when driving in my car. Thanks for some fabulous tunes.
Always like and love hearing Ray Thomas sing this great song, especially about Leary! Legend is a Classic like no other! Ray Thomas was one of the Great Moody Blues last saw him in Concert with the Moody Blues in Greenville, S. C. at their Concert at the then BI-LO Center! Great Performance!
John O'Connell I haven't even though about the high times we enjoyed in the good and mean Good days. All around were people who you knew with a look that I haven't seen in too long. Back to San Francisco and the lab. About the second or third of college we,meaning me me and myself got so high that I had forgotten how life has become. I pray I am not just a silly old man. Peace to all and a Love that keeps revisiting.
We never know who we might bless with our talents. These men did that for me during the hardest times in my life, I grew up with their music. At home and at War. Thank you for taking the time to post their music, You have blessed many for your efforts. Jerbowden
I have loved these guys for years, got turned on to them in '92 when I was 12, PBS ran a "Story Of" feature and I will never forget. More recently I have discovered how innovative their first seven albums were (1967-1972), just brilliant! I only heard this song for the first time last week and I can't get enough of it. I kinda wish I could induldge in a doob or two for this stuff, ha ha! Long live the Moodies.
It'll be a sad day when we lose true musicians and musical geniuses like these guys. They truly are a dying bread and I hate to say it, but they may be the last of their kind. We'll never see another revolution in the music industry like we did 30-40 years ago with bands like MB, Floyd, Hendrix, The Who, Led Zep, The Doors, Skynyrd, Beetles, Stones, ect ect. I could go on and on and on for days and days. Truly one of a kind.
I wonder how many of the younger people today know who Tim Leary was. I do love this song and this band is my favorite legendary group of musicians. The days of Timothy Leary are long passed but the band plays on. :-)
So glad I got to hear them play this when Leary was still alive... Saw them on the 25th anniversary of Days Of... it was at the Gorge in George Washington... it was beautifull...
I love the moody Blues. But isn't this song called Timothy Leary? idk. But the Moody Blues are awesome. I have been playing the flute because of this guy! Thank you. Because I have found my passion through music!
I had the good fortune to talk to Tim Leary one-on-one for a long time back in 1979. He was a very kind, interesting man. I asked him what bands he was listening to, he said Blondie and Devo!
Just seen them March 31st in Salem VA...for the 13th or 14th time...not the same without Ray but still a rockin show. Always a great day when you can listen to the Moody's!
Ray you are the best...I cannot express how heartbroken I am!!!! I know you are in a far better place...but damn it...rock n roll HOF...Ray was gonna be there in April....I hate you for this...dragging you ass, nominating ones that do not even deserve a mention!!!!!! My Love for you Ray will never cease!!! xo
Ray was such a big part of their sound, seems odd with him missing on the road. He gave a certain depth across the spectrum and his flute was a marvelous part too.
I do not think peace is an illusion. It is the illusion that covers peace. Not all the young are completely lost but most of us are to one extent or another. :)
ALmost every word yo uassociated wit this song is NOT seen on American televison.what a shame the level of consciousness has deteriorated to its lowest in centuries.
A lot of Moody Blues songs like this one, I have never heard of before. I'd like to sue my radio station back home for not playing some of their great songs.
This song is actually named "Legend of a Mind". It concerns Timothy O'Leary, and the drug culture, but the song title stands as I mentioned. Sadly, Ray Thomas, lead singer of this song, had to retire from the Moodies about four or five years ago due to being afflicted with Gout. What a fabulous flute player, on a par with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Good on ya, all of the Moodies.
The main body of the song is a little too fast. But, wow, I didn't realize they could almost get funkadelic, as they do in that middle section. Where has their drummer been hiding that funk for 30 years? I could listen to that section go on for another 64 measures.
Someone that plays the flute, please answer this: Doesn't most of the sound that comes out of the flute come out of the end of the instrument and/or the key holes, rather than the part he is blowing in? If so, shouldn't the mic be at that end?

The orchestra was always part of "White Satin". When I was a teenager things were so different. Trying to explain it to the "Hip Hop" generation is a dead end. They are so not even open to listening to real music and anything that is positive. Of course..I don't want to put all into the same category. My daughter is 23 and she managed to bypass the hiphop culture by actually having friends who participated in Dance, art, and anything fun. I think you call it "childhood".
great then&now.mind expansion in 60's .was peace just an illusioni ?guess so.but the young people today are lost.cannot ever post w/out vulgar, hate filled sadness
Rumor has it he has Rheumatoid Arthritis and just cant bang the skins like he used to...couldnt prove that by the show last Saturday tho.... He had just celebrated his 71st B-day.
I'm so glad RUclips gives me the chance to see the wonderful Ray in action again. Rest in peace, Ray Thomas.
I miss Ray!!! but this video is so awesome- his voice is still there and solid!!
My all time favorite band. I've seen them 5 times and this particular song is one of my favorites and one that I blast when driving in my car. Thanks for some fabulous tunes.
Such an incredible and Unique song. The Moody's really knew how to create Great music. Timeless
Nuts!!!
My favorite song from the Moody’s! 😊

I saw them in colorado springs 4 or five years ago. Still AWSOME

this is one of those songs you hear, no matter what kind of a day your having, even a good one, this song will make it better. Jeff
As Ray brings tha roof off with his flute at 2:55, most stunning!
So glad I got to hear them play this when Leary was still alive... Saw them on the 25th anniversary of Days Of... it was at the Gorge in George Washington... it was beautifull...

Did Ray pass away?
Update: I just got my answer. He left the band in 2002 for health reasons, but is coming out with a solo album this year.
Ray shouldn't have retired. He still sounds great.

The Moody Blues and Pink Floyd = timeless!!
Astonishing!

He's not dead , he's outside looking in.
Ray was such a big part of their sound, seems odd with him missing on the road. He gave a certain depth across the spectrum and his flute was a marvelous part too.

this song and english sunset-my two favorite moody blues songs. the moodys rock!
does anybody know where i can get this concert on dvd?
THIS IS CLASSICC ROCK...COULD ANY GROUP COMPARE NOW WITHOUT ALL THE GADEGTS AND SOUND STUDIO MAGIC..I DOUBT IT
Sometimes their stuff is better live than off the alblum.
Ace live performance but the haunting main motif is lost in the faster pace. That motif WAS the MB's in the 70's.
I'm gonna risk sounding repetitive and boring but I Love RAY THOMAS... xx
Read 'Diary Of A Hope Fiend' by timothy Leary......
Yes indeed...He's Dead....
The main body of the song is a little too fast. But, wow, I didn't realize they could almost get funkadelic, as they do in that middle section. Where has their drummer been hiding that funk for 30 years? I could listen to that section go on for another 64 measures.
One of the best songs the group ever did..but I think that this version is abit too fast.
I listened the day he died… it seemed even more profound

Anyone know what DVD this is from?

I love this song, but I tink that it sounds better played a little slower like the record.
@msleyla1000 This may be a repeat as I thought I just responded. What happened? :)
