    Quilts would be such an easy way to use the small cabbage. Especially when you use such nice wools. And as for sewing content being hard to produce because of the time that is required by each project, we love vlogs and studio organizing videos and shopping hauls and outfit look books. Not every video has to be massively taxing. Be sure to take a break!

    When you aren’t using your dress form, you can dress it up and put it in front of a window to creep out your neighbors. Or try new outfits. Or use her to make an entire outfit out of tiny scraps of cabbage just to make use of it somewhere. Maybe it would be useful somewhere.
    Or you can put a melon on top and call it Melon Lord.
    And i know the feeling, there are only so many times you can watch a cape swoosh on game of thrones or Harry Potter or other without wanting a cape of one’s own. Gotta learn to sew first though, lol.

    • @jennagrace1534
      @jennagrace1534 3 года назад +31

      That sounds fantastic and vaguely as though you have a dress form that you have put in these scenarios already 😅 as for the not sewing, I know that some people who do cosplay or drag often will just use glue (hot glue, fabric glue, etc) instead of sewing the garments. It probably works best on items that don’t need to be washed very often.

    • @mcanta2898
      @mcanta2898 3 года назад +18

      @@jennagrace1534 i do not, in fact, have a dress form, just a cryptid vibe. You see a model with which to shape clothes to put in the corner of the room, I see a way to freak out people passing by when they see a victorian/edwardian figure at a window in the corner of their eye.
      For the cabbage idea I thought instead of having great heaps of cabbage accumulate, little bits that are not shaped right to be useful, or in that awkward size between too small for another use but too big for stuffing could be quickly sown together to form a dress or shirt or something, like a potato sack, not very complex garment, that way you get stuffing cabbage, reusable cabbage, and cabbage dress, for the occasional day you have to look like your fairy godmother was drunk on the job.
      Nah, i wear my clothes to tatters or not at all, so this has to be practical. Hot glue will probably just annoy me. In truth I can sew, and I don’t mind it, I just cant knot the thread, so it unties real easy. Frankly, I havent tried in a while, so I might get some small pieces of fabric and see if my knotting skills have risen from rock bottom. And I can kinda see what Ms. Bernadette does to tie her thread. Just laziness! Story of my life

    Love to see there are more young people enjoying and decorating their homes with antiques. We love hunting for them. My husband and I got married 21 years ago and decorated our home with antiques, adding on and changing out as we went along. That earned us many a joke among friends, but all in good fun. Though we do get a lot of compliments about our unique pieces too. We know we don’t fit the mold. Who wants that anyway right? We are the only ones in our friend-groups that have an antique interior and love vintage clothes. My husband and I always joke that we have old souls. We are drawn to craftsmanship, the fantasizing about the backstories, the amount of details. And that goes for furniture, art, lamps, fashion, carpets etc. Love your videos. Also, Cesario's great pout when you deigned to invade his home and dared to clean it was incredible.

    There are some things in this world, like ironing, that absolutely must be over dramatized! I hope all the projects don’t feel like their piling up and wish you the best on your quest for affordable antiques. Also, all my ‘projects’ are just fabric currently and today might be a nice rainy day to start them….. sidenote: is it just me, or are Bernadette’s videos perfect for rainy mornings

    Wow! I love that you were all over the place on this one. When you admire someone for their organization, project dedication, and poise, then you see their dozen just-started project piles and giddiness about starting new ones; it makes me feel like maybe I'm not as organizationally dishevelled as I thought. Love your enthusiasm and your flat is coming along beautifully! Cheers.

    Can I say, the camera flitting about your workroom while your voice grows ever more frantic listing off the mounting piles of in-progress and looming projects is an absolute wholegrain mood. I myself am sitting on a pile of sewing and embroidery I Need to get working on, plus a bundle of sewing and weaving I would rather be doing. The proverbial tea kettle screech of an overburdened brain is highly relatable.
    Also, endlessly envious of your gorgeous workspace. I'm fairly certain I said the same of your workroom back in jolly old New York, but you create such encompassing, aesthetic spaces which look delightful to exist and work in. It is a pleasure watching this workroom come together piece by piece, and I hope that back piece on the Mary Poppins dress doesn't fight you too much in the effort to sort it.

    I absolutely loved this video. It reminds me of me 35 years ago. My cutting board was a king-size waterbed with cardboard cutting boards on it. I didn't have a sewing room at the time, but the master bedroom had two walk-in closets and a large vanity which was my sewing table, so I made do with what I had. I had 3 to 6 children running around, 2 of which were mine. I also wore Edwardian-style clothing with a corset most of the time. I miss those days terribly.

    Your description of the split skirt reminded me that my grandmother said she had a similar style skirt the she wore when she would ride her pony to school (mid 1900’s). Folkwear Patterns has/had a Big Sky Riding Skirt pattern that would be similar to what you described.

    "fitting just on many levels is a very distressing process" - god this is so relatable 😬 I keep making such beautifully constructed garments that I then lose momentum on the second I have to start making fit adjustments (despite toiles) 😩

    I so enjoy your enthusiasm for your craft! You are not a network or large corporation putting out weekly entertainment. When you have time to put up a video - I'm ready for a cup of tea and anything you want to share. So many youtubers are getting burned out because they are trying to keep ridiculous schedules. Just be true to yourself.

    Maybe it’s me, but since your move to London, you have been all over the place. I’m not criticizing, because if I had moved to London I would still be getting over the panic attacks. I’m anxious to see one of the garments finished and your new dress form. I love the footage of you out and about. The antique shop was luscious❤️ . @@bernadettebanner But I would suggest that that's perfectly normal under the circumstances. You've moved not just to a new town or county, but to a new country. I don't know how long you expect to be here for, but there's so much new that you're going to want to see, plus so much re-arranging that will be needed until your new home is as much like you want it as you can manage given the constraints of renting that it's not actually a surprise that you're a bit butterfly brained at the moment.
      Just don't make yourself ill with self-imposed deadlines - we'll still be here if some of the projects take longer than expected. We're quite happy with workroom vlogs, or even waiting a couple of weeks for the next video if you need some time to yourself.

      i so like the sound of your voice, doesn't matter what the subject, it's calming. i usually sew during your videos. i like you thinking aloud, i do this, or discussing procrastinating, while we're all doing the same with some project...but finishing another...your dialogue resonates with me, best wishes as you work to settle into your new home. I've moved so many times, the move is unsettling even when you're happy for the move,

    I feel so called out right now. currently I have five dresses that just need simple alterations. Just hanging there. I have a list of items that I stopped mid project because my executive function quit on me. Then there is the list of things I want to make. An Edwardian lingerie dress, a Viking apron dress and smock, an 18th century pair of stays boned with reed, shall I go on? Oh, and in the midst of all this I decided to redo my sewing room because it was chaos. (doesn't help that I have to share it with my children's computers.) help.

      It's been years since I was able to use my "sewing and office" for anything that was actually sewing or office-related. I need to reorganize and plan and move things and .... It's not going to happen right now.
      I will be playing with fabric for the rest of the day, or trying to find a new, hopefully reasonably cheap, solution for the poultry and doing housework-type things.
      I also really want to sew some lovely royal blue wool broadcloth I bought specifically for a lightweight cloak, into said lightweight cloak. And maybe a few "chicken aprons" while I have the machine going.
