@@bernadettebanner Thanks for the great videos! Do you think you would ever do a video about your fountain pen(s)? Have you ever tried the blackwing pencils?
Stop! One minute! - I'm always happy to watch your movies and admire your projects, but I have to refer to what you showed in the last part of this movie, how you planned the cuts of the fabric - the latter in stripes :) This is wool as far as I remember. all materials, except those with a plain weave - they cannot be used to cut parts of one garment in two different directions. On fabrics such as velvet, it is obvious, but in the case of cloth or fabrics made of worsted wool, the hair always runs in one direction. If you ignore this rule, it may be that the two different parts of the skirt or jacket will have a different shade depending on the lighting. To check this, place or hang the material so that you can see it in natural light "both ways", next to you. It would be a pity such high-quality fabric. Best regards, I am second to all your projects

"Starting 7 projects at once is probably not a wise decision but here we are." Me, looking at my WIP pile of plushies and other such things: "Ah, so this isn't just a thing that knit and crochet artists think. Good to know." Also, the added in animal clips always make me smile! The bonus chicken content was great! Thank you for that.
Bernadette: "Starting 7 projects at once is probably not a wise decision" Me: *both laughing and crying under my pile of crochet projects, embroidery and cross-stitch, and sewing projects* I bought 13 skeins of yarn yesterday. Some of it was mulberry silk and expensive. Is this what insanity feels like? Because I keep looking at Ravelry patterns.
I start projects one at a time, but because I'm terrible about finishing them, I have many projects languishing in the "I got bored/frustrated" basket.
I feel like we may be kindred spirits. I've bought over $700 in fabric since February, and thats been added to my collection of three totes of yarn, cross-stitch supplies, painting supplies, and numerous other projects. I'm trying to get as much done while this wave of interest is still strong, just so I can say I finished things for once!
Ravelry is an amazing resource, a real example of the best uses for the Internet. But goodness, it's sooo easy to get lost in the possibilities...my ravelry favourites list of things I'd like to try making is at least a mile long! Glad to hear I'm not the only one.
@@PonderingStudent It IS an amazing resource. I always get so excited looking through all of the vintage patterns. The fact that they are still accessible and useable. The oldest pattern that I've used so far was from 1915, and I've been eyeballing a ladies' yoke cape from 1904 for a long while.
I don't know a thing about sewing, but I find this the most relaxing and interesting channel to listen to, a world away from my own life. I really really love learning about other people's lives, how they live, what they do. This is one of my new favorite channels to watch. xx

I love this kind of ‘workshop goings on’ video! It’s inspiring to see what you’re working on, and it encourages me to keep my own ten thousand half-done projects going as well! It’s like checking in and getting an update, and especially with Bernadette it’s always super beautifully shot and edited, and is a little masterpiece in itself!
Definitely here for the behind-the-scenes vibes. Your cinematography is killing it, and it's great to see you living your best life in the UK with Cesario.

I really enjoy workroom vlogs like this for many reasons: 1. Fabric/project/pattern porn. All of the hearteyes. 2. You! Your cute, quirky, whimsical witchy self is always a delight to behold. 3. Not only do I love watching how the people that inspire me work/think/plan, but it is incredibly helpful to me! So thank you!

"In the workroom" Sounds like a series. You can sporadically upload for it, and generally just post anything under the label as long as it resembles something of a vlog
I love how Bernadette hesitated when considering 18th century dress ‘all the time’! I had to laugh with her on that one! A true historical clothing enthusiast! We have all considered could I….? Buying patterns on a binge moment, I do know that exhilarating feeling. Just did it with Lady Marlowe Patterns (1920’s-1959’s). I love your process in planning and organizing, Bernadette! Cheers xoxox
"laying my pattern pieces on top of the yardage" Sometimes that is the only way to figure out what will work. In my checkered past, I constructed quite a few garments as an SCA seamstress where the patterns were created by looking at artwork from the desired period. The laying out of the pattern pieces was always the process. I absolutely LOVE the in the workroom VLOGS!
Indeed it is. Just because the area is large enough doesn’t guarantee that it will work out geometrically. The only way to find out _that_ is to try it.
I love how youtubers are always like "oh no, this video is already so looong" Na, na, gie me aw o' yer content. I do absolutely want to hear you go on tangents about literally anything
As someone with a 2 page, double column, projects-to-make-this-winter list video seems so minimalist and reasonable 😍 Also now I want to go through those two pages of projects and draw them up like this because A E S T H E T I C
Yes I'm working on some crafty thing while watching this, thanks for asking. I'm actually handsewing knickers from a free pattern because I need new knickers and I don't have a sewing machine (yet). And store bought knickers are lame and uncomfortable. Not quite as fancy as a three piece Victorian lady suit, but I'm pretty proud of myself nonetheless.
Can I just say...your videography skills are through the roof. The amount of work that goes into a video like this.. that to some, may seem simple ...it's so impressive! I love watching your content for so many reasons, but especially for the way in which you format, you know a thing or two about transportation of the visual eye! And I'm here for it.
Your filming and editing skills have evolved in a new direction in this vlog - I love it! Also, could you please not tell my monkey brain to start all the projects I desperately try to keep for later because there is so much to do right now? Thank you XD PS: I got my patterns of fashion 5 book yesterday - possibly the only one in Germany on sale - and was so thrilled to see the detailed documentation of garments.
there's "visual" asmr and then there's watching Bernadette mess with fabrics which makes me want to lay down on a hoard of wool and just sleep contentedly. Also the chicken clip made me shriek
Watching Bernadette doin' some Bernadetting is just so soothing. Like..people being themselfes, doing their thing, not giving a fluff. Bernadette you are going places! Bestbest, Angelika

I think maybe costume youtubers feel a presure to always relase a fully completed project video, but we often just here for you, pretty clothes are just a bonus! I love this vlogish format of fabric shoping/designing/brainstorming videos.
Idk if you’ll see this comment Bernadette, but I just wanted to thank you for reigniting my love for sewing and beginning my love for historical fashion! I now have some lovely handmade clothes including a brand new dress because of you!
I wonder what kind of pencils and sharpener those are. I wonder if Bernadette has the same problem as I do of pencils breaking when trying to write with them.
"Shouldn't do 7 projects at once " Me: whistles innocently will avoiding eye contact with any of my projects. P.s. your comment about what eras you want to do hit WAAAAYYY to close to home. I keep getting asked what my favorite era is and I end up listing things I like from each era. From early Egyptian to Dior's New Look.
You talking about hands getting wrecked making stays reminded me how I'm so curious how crafters and artisans who work with their hands avoid repetitive stress injuries. Like methods/modifications and tips as well as braces/sleeves/protective or supportive items. It's deff not talked about enough!
I do a LOT of stretches. Finger/wrist/arm/shoulder. I'm also a dancer and aerialist so I rely on my grip strength a lot; wiggling my fingers/rolling my wrists whenever I have a minute is a habit by now.
Idk stretch? I still have double carpal tunnel and it’s pretty much the worse thing that can happen or an artist, I just can’t sew as much as I used to.
There is a good book out there written by a physiotherapist who knits. And his name escapes me. I was planning to go and listen to him speak at the big knitting conference when the world stopped. I did shiatsu at one point in my life. Don't stop with just your hands, the tension travels up your arms into your shoulders and neck. As your fine control muscles tire the bigger ones try to take over and they are not designed for that. So set a timer and when it goes off stretch your entire upper body, loosen everything up.
When I was still doing jewelry I got chiropractic adjustments because I had a bad habit of resting on one foot and throwing my whole body out of alignment. I would also get trigger point injections for myofascial pain syndrome every 3 mos. Body couldn't keep up though...disabled now. I recommend regular breaks, stretching, if it's hurting you need to stop and ice or heat depending on if it's arthritis or an injury.
You know, just watching you visualize and organize your projects on paper gave me a little boost for my own works. The hardest part of any project for me is getting my thoughts together and keeping track of everything.
Me: Never touched a sewing machine and having no interest in any kind of couture whatsoever Also me being a sub of this channel : ✍️ yeah good old robe à la française
I have approximately 7 projects on the go at the moment and I've accidentally ended up hand-stitching an entire 'prairie' style dress out of sheer laziness for not getting my sewing machine out this week 😅 so glad this is a problem other people have too!
I have the sense that flat was found - or found you - specifically for this project just so you could lay out that magnificent length of pinstripe and put down all the pattern pieces. The three-piece suit was in the stars before you even got there.
Me, owning a kilt as part of my school uniform: kilts are the most detestable item in the history of clothing, burn all kilts in the pit of Tartarus Sees Bernadette swooshing dramatically in a kilt and cape: kilts are the best; where's my school kilt so I can swoosh about in it!
@Rebecca E. Webber I live in Ireland, and a lot of girls' schools wear kilts, or plaid skirts. I don't know if it's a proper kilt so to speak, but it fastens with buckles and safety pins, so it might be? My school did recently switch to skirts in the same fabric, but a lot of people still wear the kilt.
You absolutely can! I admired Bernadette for a long time and I recently bit the bullet and acquired an antique sewing machine (absolutely not necessary) and decided on a project for myself. I have never sewn anything in my life besides non-medical face masks. I’m currently in the process of stitching some lace on my Victorian chemise by hand. Do the thing! I believe I’m your abilities!
I have a clock just like your red one, but it has a hood. It was part of the school uniform (years past, but I was able to get a leftover one and still wear it) at the boarding school I went to briefly in St Andrews. In the hoods of them were our house colours. I love it.
Bernadette has talked about her cloak before. She got it at a second-hand store in Scotland. AND a viewer said I think that was mine. I gave/sold it to a second hand store because it was too difficult to wear with a backpack at about the time BB bought it We were all" OMG just wear backpack UNDER the cape"
@@gingerdean1521 Haha! Yeah, it was really hard to wear with a backpack and so I didn't wear it much while I was at school. We'd wear them under the clock but it was just stupid looking and drafty.
It's 2am. I'm sipping coffee and watching Bernadette be her incredible self as I'm getting ready for work. I'm so in awe of her personal aesthetic, and here I am in my own aesthetic: little boy toddler/cozy, eccentric grandma. 🤷♀️

Me: *both laughing and crying under my pile of crochet projects, embroidery and cross-stitch, and sewing projects* I bought 13 skeins of yarn yesterday. Some of it was mulberry silk and expensive. Is this what insanity feels like? Because I keep looking at Ravelry patterns.
Ravelry is a black hole. Just like Pinterest. I need to stay away from them or they suck my soul 😂
This is one of my new favorite channels to watch. xx

"laying my pattern pieces on top of the yardage" Sometimes that is the only way to figure out what will work. The laying out of the pattern pieces was always the process. I absolutely LOVE the in the workroom VLOGS!
Indeed it is. Just because the area is large enough doesn’t guarantee that it will work out geometrically. The only way to find out _that_ is to try it.
