I have been a hand quilter for years , but watching Bernadette got me into hand sewing in a way I never expected.... I get so excited when I hand fell a seam or repair a button hole ( I made my eldest daughter a full Edwardian apron and cap from scratch with tiny wee stitches ). Watching Bernadette has also changed the way I hand sew my quilt tops -- if you want to sew, just do it . Even if you make yourself cotton dish towels, doesn’t have to be fancy, but you can look at them with pride
You should give sewing a try. You will be surprised at how simple it can be, especially hand sewing. Even if you don't make anything huge, the satisfaction of just putting a couple of pieces of cloth together might surprise you.
@@patriciaburr4826 do it! And then keep doing it. The only difference between you and Bernadette is that you haven't picked up the needle yet. Every experienced seamstress picked up a needle for the first time at one point. And as long as it gives you a feeling of satisfaction, you should keep sewing. It's a very accessible pastime, and I think having even basic sewing skills is a great benefit.
I learnt patchwork last year in lockdown and made 4 (plus another for a friend’s child) cushions based on Hogwarts Houses. I worked on them when I had insomnia. All done by hand and I even learnt how to put in zippers. This year I made an epic cushion (again in lockdown insomnia) of the Breaking Benjamin emblem with pattern and colours inspired by their Ember album. It was extremely daunting. I’ve never sewn clothes but I find hand sewing very calming. You can’t use a machine in the dead of night. And I’m terrified of sewing my fingers to the machine.

I follow Bernadette which is how I saw this video existed, but I want to say the interviewer was excellent. Very professional, good pacing, good editing, kept the conversation going and was flexible when the topic meandered. Very well done.
I am a guy, I started watching her about 3 years ago. Then when lockdown happened I made a flat cap/paperboy hat and it was terrible. But I kept going and now I can bespoke pattern draft a historical suit and make it. I'm wearing trousers, a shirt and a waistcoat not THAT I MADE - which still blows me away. And it is ALL from her inspiration. Everyone should give it a go. It's just a series of small procedures one after the other - nothing is that hard.
Good for you! Wow. I can't remember his name, but maybe you've seen the channel of the guy in England(?) who dresses in period clothing every day. I think he makes it, too, but I'm not sure.
Good on you, sir. My ex-wife was a textile artist and fashion designer - very talented - and I helped her with all her projects from making the cloth and designing the pattern, pinning it down and cutting it out. learned a lot about fashion, etc., and she taught me how to dress. I supported myself as a carpenter and there is no difference between assembling a home from a plan (pattern) and assembling a garment from a pattern (plan). Just different tools, techniques and materials. I have a top quality sewing machine but an apartment so small I can barely store it, let alone use it. I have accumulated a top quality wardrobe from second-had stores - cashmere jackets, silk shirts, designer shoes in buttery soft leather, fedora hats, antique walking sticks - but the hillbilly paradise I live in leaves me all dressed up and nowhere to go. Literally. This town is so dangerous I have to go out armed and sport more of a "combat classic" both as armour and for concealed carry. The wardrobe standard here is "white trash slovenly" and the obesity rate far exceeds the national average. I'm pretty sure a well-dressed man in my town would be treated like the "pretty boy" in a dark, violent Western and have a violent, humiliating and gruesome end. (By the way, I came here from somewhere else to do a project then got kind of trapped. Yes, I am trying to get out of here to somewhere more civilized but I am old and health and money have been some limitations.) My goal is to find somewhere with a Swing Dance scene and a competent dance partner willing to go or currently going vintage of that era. I just hope our economy and culture remain stable so I can find and relocate to that place ... and dance myself into the Apocalypse. I watch Bernadette, Karolina Zebrowska, Morgan Donner, Rachel Maksey and others to keep my interest alive and to inject some beauty into my life ... a quality missing from this town and from the modern world in general. When I do get a chance to dress well it feels SO GOOD - the clothing is just of such better quality, fit, and design. Keep 'em flying and have fun. Cheers
Bernadette's videos are really addictive. I am a guy who knows precious little about sewing...but I am very interested in history, and the history of costume through re-enactment groups. But the real thing I would put Bernadette's success down to is her true "star" quality....although she is certainly not the personality type to indulge in celebrity status. That is admirable! She is very witty...and the kind of person you would want to spend an "Edwardian" afternoon tea with! Oh! and pet "pig" Cesario is a star too!!
I am a guy, I started watching her about 3 years ago. Then when lockdown happened I made a flat cap/paperboy hat and it was terrible. Great interview, Jon. You didn't interrupt and allowed her to speak until she finished her thoughts, got her on track when she forgot what her point was, and provided great active listening to further the conversation. So rare to find in an interview!
Aww it seems Ms Banner still doesn’t really appreciate how much her success is due to just how charming she really is. I appreciate the need to balance having a public persona versus your personal life and love the CosTube community and always want the creators to take care of their mental health over being a machine in turning our content. I would rather folks skip a week because they were just not on that week.
Yes! Watching videos that people don't want to make sucks. You can always tell something is off. Plus thats the kind of thing that leads to burnout & eventually quitting. Also there are literally billions of videos on youtube with 1000s of popular creators making amazing videos. People trippin.
@@tK-be6ns you can't stay relevant that way. RUclips won't push your content if you aren't constantly rolling it out. Bernadette got lucky when the algorithm picked up one of her videos and recommended to a bunch of people. That's how she grew so fast. She went from pretty small to over 100,000 subs quick and once you do that if you keep the grind up you'll hit a million rather quickly. She didn't just then slowed down so her her growth slowed with it. But, at a certain point you can still make enough money if you can keep those subs watching and of course almost all of her videos are paid sponsers now.
One of the things I appreciate about Bernadette is her desire to be thoughtful and ethical in how she operates. I love the content she provides but her character makes it all the better.
Thank you for presenting this interview. Bernadette is a very private person - you struck gold when she agreed to be interviewed. The discussion was very enlightening . Hopefully, your channel grows by offering such interesting content.
Thanks Denise for watching and listening! And yes, if you enjoyed this conversation - feel free to check out our archive of previous conversations with other creators! :)
Nice to hear a you tuber remember that their audience is "people". Not just subscriber rates, not just "views", but real, living breathing humans. As a living breathing human, I appreciate being "seen" to a degree.
I view Patreon subscriptions as similar to donating to the library. You pay for something you like to have, but instead of keeping it to yourself you share it with the community.
I like her explanation of how people use Patreon. I also find the whole reward system superfluous. I'm paying money to support the work, as she says, and to compensate the creator for what I've already consumed for free.
Yes, exactly how I feel. A couple of times small creators I support have tried to send physical perks in the mail and I have to message them insisting seriously please don't spend the postage I don't want it
Ms Banner's success comes from her very sweet personality, the soothing tone of her videos, and the gorgeous visuals she achieves in her productions. She is elegant, thoughtful, and extremely creative. Those qualities are rightly recognized and admired by so many people who have no desire to stitch a thing.
I found Bernadette by accident on RUclips this year. I’ve always wanted to do more sewing and didn’t know about historical sewing. My granddaughter is fascinated by Victorian times and clothes. We are going to attempt a Victorian ball gown for her prom in a couple of years time. I’ve already got the linen to make the chemise, then the corset, then the ball gown! We are both hooked. So thank you Bernadette. I loved this interview. The reason I believe Bernadette is “successful” on RUclips is because she is a genuinely lovely person and that comes through.
@@fionafiona1146 I’m concentrating on finishing other projects for the next few months. Early next year I am moving house from one side of the country to the other to be nearer to my daughter and family so then we should be able to start. I’m going to attempt a chemise as I have my granddaughter’s measurements and a dress form but will wait until settled to start on the more complex things. So in the meantime lots of research…….😃
@@fionafiona1146 Thank you for noting the ‘American duchess’ cape. Although I’ve come across Bernadette’s beautiful-but-complex, full-length ‘strolling’ coat, I haven’t yet seen her ‘American duchess’ cape. However, I will search /view the episode momentarily! 🫖
I was pleasantly surprised to hear her swear both times. Historical women were not averse to swearing, and neither is she, and sometimes, there's no better way to express something than with a well-placed curse word lol
I’ve been watching Bernadette’s stuff for about 2.5 years now - so not quite from the start but definitely before her work really took off. I thought I was part of a tiny niche interest community who really were a bit weird but whatever - it’s harmless. Who knew there were so many people who love this stuff AND love the way she presents it. I’m so pleased it is really working out for her.
I started watching her when she was in the tens of thousands. When I told my friend about it she was so amazed at how niche the channel was. I was like...really? I just took it for granted there were lots of people interested in history, so why not historical fashion? 😅
@@katyb2793 I started watching her not too long after she started. I never thought of it as 'niche' though - I know a lot of cosplay and historical dressing people (I do historical garments) so always thought of it as regular. lol
Ms. Banner is who inspired me to learn how to sew. My mother sewed my entire life and yet, Bernadette banner was the one who really made me want to learn
The first time I stumbled into Bernadette's channel she was carving a turnip into a Jack-O-Lantern and chatting and decorating her little apartment for fall. She stumbled into my heart that day and I just had to see all that she could be!
Her videos inspire me to not only make things with my hands, but to take time and appreciate the small moments and steps in whatever i do. The cinematography, music, detail shots are beautiful and remind and inspire me to romanticise my own life, and to appreciate the little, grounded things. She got me through hard times and taught me not only sewing and history bits, but to find the magic in everyday life, to find contentment in doing things with intention. She really enriched my life and I'm so grateful for her channel.
She’s very perceptive about the pitfalls of both unleavened praise and vicious negativity. The former overfeeds ego, and the latter is destructive with no value.
I came across Bernadette Banner late one night. I remember commenting that she was such a wonderfully odd person. I loved her so much I subscribed and continued to watch her regularly. I credit her with tuning me into historical costuming and costuming in general. And indirectly costumers of color because she lead me to Costuming Drama who showcased Costumers who were non white.
She is a HUGE inspiration to me and many people I know. Bernadette made me feel like being me and being passionate about fashion history and history in general, is awesome. I don't dress for the Victorian era but I dress for the 1950s and 60s daily and she was the one who inspired me to dress as my fashion passion and it changed my life, mental health and helped me meet so many wonderful people. She also made handsewing look cool, so I taught myself how.
Wow, there are a lot of creators who need to hear Bernadette's views on reading comments on her content. I think she's probably got the healthiest approach out there.
Now you see why so many of us follow Bernadette Banner. She did a you tube video on her schedule and process of editing. I recommend it to many You tube makers, because she is what I concider a consumate you tube video maker. i would like to point out her music selection is spot on. She writes and edits her commentary, instead of blabbing on and on. If you find yourself watching her videos over and over you may realize, "It is her enthusiasm for her subject" that insires you, and makes you want to know more. Photography is amazing. She is really even better than she thinks she is!
She really has some magic, and maybe it really is her enthusiasm. I explicitly hated all fashion (also hated history as a subject in school) and knew nothing about sewing or dressmaking. And I stumbled upon her channel and was captivated while not understanding half of what was going on and now I am starting to grow an appreciation for fashion and history.
The reason why I think she’s amazing is BECAUSE she’s so down to earth and quirky. She’s so real. That makes her relatable. And being relatable AND really good at a handful of things is the winning formula. (I write, so, I have an understanding of what attracts people to characters in books). Thanks for getting Bernadette on your channel. I love listening to her talk. I definitely play her videos when I’m working on a project and trying to push through my anxiety-inducing stalls and/or boredom. The fact that she intended the channel for that exact purpose originally fills me with joy. I’m sad to know she’ll probably never read this, but, I think she’s really balanced as a person to be so intellectual, such a joy, AND humble and happy about where her life’s at. It takes a lot of internal growth and awareness to be able to know your limits and set boundaries for yourself to ensure your own happiness.
Respectfully, you can copy out your thanks and praise & either A) hand write it out & mail it to her, if she has a po box (sic) over in England Or B) attach it to her next video, where she may see it
Maybe I’m different than most RUclips watchers, but I rarely, rarely, click on something because of a title or image. In Bernadette’s case, it was the content of hand sewing at first and afterward, her personality and passion for the subject that made me a subscriber. I’m an artist and appreciate artistry in many forms.
For me the thumbnail is everything. It’s a sneak peak into what your video will reflect, it shows a bit of personality, and the quality of the video itself. In similar ways, it’s also how I choose reading books, I always judge a book by the cover
@@zvezdoblyat I did that once - picked a book by the cover, However that worked out incredibly well and I found a new author that I love. But the cover doesn't dictate if I choose a book or not.
***HUGE*** BERNADETTE FAN. The whole fashion history/historybounding community is amazing, but our dear Miss Banner is a true inspiration. She's been the number one motivator for me getting back into sewing and why I am no longer afraid of small bolt sizes - because as she said, piecing is period!! BLESS.
She’s so unique, smart and additionally so poised and articulate to watch …subscribed years ago and have watched her grow… amazing fun and unique channel…sewing is not in my wheelhouse so I sew vicariously through her…and very well I might add! Lol
I'm so glad I checked my subscription feed. As I scrolled this one came up. Must be because I'm subscribed to Bernadette. I've always wanted to hear a conversation with her and to hear her background history which she alludes to in her videos but never fully feels you in on. We know she's been in school we know she's done theater and now she does video. Thank you for filling in a lot of the blanks by having her as a guest.
Good pointers on sending that fearless email: when I was an undegraduate in Portugal I emailed a few lecturers back in the UK to do my research project with them, one of them said yes, and doing a project with him changed my life. Just send it!
And by the way, this was an excellent interview. I follow Bernardette and admire her professionalism and work ethic in the youtube world, and this interview just increased my respect for her.
I love Bernadette, her videos have encouraged me to repair the historical sewing machine I got from my mom that I learned to sew on like 20 years ago. And now it is going to get used again 😁
12:54. The phrase goes “if you want to make God laugh, make plans”. This was a wonderful interview. Thank you for taking such good care of Ms Bernadette.
More youtubers should edit their videos like Bernadette, or at least script them instead of repeating things over and over. I'd watch a two hour bernadette video without hesitation.
@Kevin Cooper - Ms Banner is not just a clothing historian. She is also very talented at video-making. Her videos are beautiful, soothing, and skillful.
These are the questions I’d ask Bernadette! Bernadette was the first person I thought of when I was asked ‘If you could have coffee with anyone living or dead who would it be?’ I just admire her so much! ❤️
Thank you for this video, in fact it's really pleasant to have this possibility to discover the other side of being a youtuber. I'm following Bernadette Banner since a couple of years and am admiring this talented community of "costubers" as they call themselves. Now, knowing that she had the strengh of just ask and act without the fear of being criticized is really inspiring and intimidating in the same time. Her way of approching life and perspectives is full of simplicity and poetry, and I look forward to see her thrive even more !
Thanks so much for watching and listening. I really enjoyed getting to chat with Bernadette and was taken aback by her humility and vulnerability. It was a fun conversation! - Jon Santiago
Bernadette is very grounded with a realistic outlook and sense about her channel and self. I really enjoy watching her channel, she is so articulate with a good sense of humor. She is an elegant and attractive lady as well. Didn't realize how young she is. Thanks for posting the interview.
I am a Bernadette Banner fan. I enjoy watching the processes that she's willing to share, because she strives to present and accomplish making a garment of quality and beauty as created during times of long long ago. And, I especially love that she uses the appropriate fabrics, trims, sewing machines, and notions that were used during eras of the past. Thanks for presenting more of the background that makes her RUclips channel totally awesome! And, thank you Bernadette for sharing your RUclips experiences. Thank You Bernadette Banner!
Really enjoyed this interview. There is another You Tuber that I watch that has over 1 million subscribers. Her negative comments usually deal with asking her how much she spent to get the tools or equipment or whatever that she uses. And while she never discusses actual costs these people then state, "well I don't have that money". My point is that jealousy and envy play a definite role in those that check the thumbs down button or post negative comments. So sad. I would hope people would be pleased at someone's success.
Cream rises to the top. Offering videos with quality, passion, historically based material with humility and humor pleases viewers- a million of them! Brunette rocks it. Thanks for this episode!
Thank you for this. I watch Bernadette for her manner of being, courteous, elegant, humble, as much as for her sewing. I love that you gave her the space to be herself and kept out of the way for the most part and let her talk. There are television journalists and chat show hosts who could learn from you. 😎🏴
Thank you for the kind words, Rory. That approach you described is exactly what I strive for with each and every conversation I have on this show. So I'm glad you appreciate and recognized it. - Jon Santiago
Super interesting to get more of a back story about how Bernadette got into this. Have watched her videos for years and am always impressed with how thoughtful she is about everything. I recall specifically how sort of uncomfortable she was when launching the Patreon. Yet, who has put more work into making quality content than she has? Bernadette is the best. Amazing knowledge base (try her video about Broadway costuming businesses when COVID had just closed them), beautiful videos with super fun scripts (who else uses "anon" in a sentence these days?) Impeccable.
It must be really freaky being a somewhat private introverted person with a very popular RUclips channel. Everybody wants to get to know you and ask you 1 million questions. I can see how that would be very hard to wrap your brain around, and the necessity of putting up very clear boundaries between your personal life and your channel. Been following Bernadette since the very early days. Have handsewn a few projects because of her. Love her content♥️
This was a really refreshing interview to watch/listen to. I, along with others, I’m sure appreciate the candor in BB’s answers to your questions, thus allowing us an insight into the mindset of a RUclipsr.
“Man proposes, God disposes.” Love Bernadette, loved this interview. I’ve been following her for over two years and find her brilliant, fascinating, knowledgeable, and calming. Visiting her world is always a joy. Thank you!
The craftiest videocraft ever. Bernadette's content is great because it reminds me of a great costume history course I took in college .... like she is providing the continuing education portion!
I have zero interest in sewing and yet I subscribe to Bernadette - Apart from being very charming she's obviously very intelligent and she's such a good storyteller which makes her videos so interesting.
I heard this saying from my late parents, "a man trache v'Got lachte" meaning,"a Man thinks, and God laughs". Bernadette a is very special young lady. Very talented, well educated, ambitious, and truly dedicated to her craft, and to have found her choice in life is a true blessing. I so enjoy her videos as a new subscriber. Best Wishes Bernadette, for great health, happiness, and good fortune.🥰
I love Bernadette Banner's channel. I have been watching it for over 3 years. I live vicariously by watching her and other young costumers. I loved Home ec in high school and wanted to go to college to be a home ec teacher. When I was 17 my mom came to me and said "you're not smart enough to go to college", the guy that I was dating "is going to ask you to marry him and you had better say yes if you know what is good for you". I said "yes". We moved to a college town and I used my Christmas and Birthday money and took classes. It took a little over 18 years but I got my degree. Unfortunately, there isn't a calling for Home ec teachers anymore.
Thank you for the conversation with Bernadette! I appreciate her passion and point of view. The standout tips she shared about content creation was "you have three roles as a creator" talent, film maker and marketer. And lastly, she is earnest in her desire to teach you something wonderful! Your questions were thoughtful and it gave the viewers a structure to follow allowing for unexpected deeper conversation with Bernadette. Best wishes to you both!
Thank goodness we have people like Bernadette Banner who do the work she does, in preserving understanding and knowledge contained within traditions gone by. 🙂
The interviewer did an awesome job interviewing Bernadette. Also, Bernadette is a brilliant woman. I know this is just the beginning of her flourishing career.
My husband is always saying "Smart is relative to the task at hand," which is what I was thinking as you were wrapping up the interview. It is so true!
Love Bernadette, thanks for interviewing her and having serious (yet fun chats). I "knew" her when :) who remembers those videos of "well, I will need to get a job..." I found her while I was looking for hand sewing videos. I appreciate how she puts thought into staging, environment, the music and the tone. The occasional appearance of His Lordship, of course, is everything. Along with pockets.
I found her the same way...needed hand sewing tips and then I fell in love with the little creature. He needs a little playhouse and bed- with everything hand-sewn.
I've been subscribed to Bernadette for a few years now and love her content. She was a springboard to other historical costume video creators and I am truly down the rabbit hole now!
So glad Bernadette agreed to this interview! I'm fascinated by the behind the scenes work and mindset of youtube creators, particularly Bernadette's deliberate and carefully built career! Always excited to see her talk about business. :)
I’m a college senior who is graduating in December and currently applying to my first “adult” jobs, and I credit Bernadette with helping me rediscover my love of history and open my eyes to a career field I had forgotten even existed. When COVID shut everything down and kind of put any sort of performing arts administration job on hold (I’m a dancer first), it forced me to look around and think about what else there is out there that I want to do. I no longer feel locked into having to move to NYC and scrape by for the “experience” because I’m applying to museums and living history programs across the country. Sewing has helped me reconnect with my grandmother (I use her machine), my mother, and my own creativity in a way that I had never known was possible. I’m making my own dress to wear for my graduation and even though it won’t be seen under the gown, that accomplishment of wearing something I can be proud of is everything to me.
There's a lot of opportunity in the world right now. Keep striving to be creative and curious and those traits will take you a long way not only in your career and but in life, too! - Jon Santiago
I really enjoyed this interview - both because I have a lot of respect for Bernadette and her work, and Jon was really great! It really flowed like a really good conversation.
Bernadette Banner could make a video of herself reading the phonebook, in its entirety, and I would sit there like a rapt child watching the unveiling of the recipe for caramel cream chocolates. Her passion and knowledge is in itself absorbing, and it's that passion that keeps me clicking as soon as I see the videos posted.
Great interview. I stumbled upon Bernadette when she had 80K followers. I wasn't sewing at the time, but found her videos and personality charming. I now own a machine and still check in occasionally. She makes me smile.

YES!!!

Great interview, Jon. You didn't interrupt and allowed her to speak until she finished her thoughts, got her on track when she forgot what her point was, and provided great active listening to further the conversation. So rare to find in an interview!
Thank you, Jess for the kind words. I appreciate it! - Jon Santiago
Ms Banner is the reason Im watching this in a homemade victorian style nightgown made out of a bedsheet!
Agreed! I would much prefer well-crafted content less often than a rush job to meet an arbitrary deadline.
Yes! Watching videos that people don't want to make sucks. You can always tell something is off. Plus thats the kind of thing that leads to burnout & eventually quitting.
Also there are literally billions of videos on youtube with 1000s of popular creators making amazing videos. People trippin.
It’s also just more relatable when they take a week or 3 off. I prefer less videos so I can keep up 😆
@@tK-be6ns you can't stay relevant that way.
She's a DELIGHT. Her channel is so educational.
Watching Bernadette geek out over the subjects she clearly loves in her videos makes me return to her videos again and again. I appreciate her voice.
It's not necessarily that she's articulate (she is) but that there is so much thought and consideration behind what she says.
A couple of times small creators I support have tried to send physical perks in the mail and I have to message them insisting seriously please don't spend the postage I don't want it
Bernadette's were the first videos I saw with a full reference list... my inner nerd was ecstatic.
Bernadette saved my sanity during the lockdowns. She is so calming and still passionate about her topics. I love her channel.
I bet she doesnt have a single tatoo, either!
That's an awesome project! Are you doing smaller stuff in between? I made my self the "American duchess" cape before attempting an actual jacket.
@@HeyMJ. it's a shoe advert, I love it
Bernadette saying “Who the F even are we?” is a whole mood.
Must be frustrating to have the type of content that doesn't allow for a healthy dose of f-bombs 😂
I was pleasantly surprised to hear her swear both times. Historical women were not averse to swearing, and neither is she, and sometimes, there's no better way to express something than with a well-placed curse word lol

Listening to Bernadette talk about sources and citations made my morning. She’s such a wonderful human and scholar.
I could not agree any more .... Bernadette is like a Balm for the Soul and Heart !!
Never miss Bernadette, Abby Cox, Nicole Rudolph, or Rachel Maksy. Thank you!
and not to forget Cathy Hay
And Morgan Donner! All of them are so amazing🥰
Absolutely!
She’s very perceptive about the pitfalls of both unleavened praise and vicious negativity. The former overfeeds ego, and the latter is destructive with no value.
Great comment.
Do you watch not your mommas history?
She's so brilliant and Bernadette just made 2 videos with her
She is a HUGE inspiration to me and many people I know.
*saying something vaguely self-depricating&
Bernadette: nO! LOVE YOURSELF! YOU ARE SMART!
Wow, there are a lot of creators who need to hear Bernadette's views on reading comments on her content. I think she's probably got the healthiest approach out there.
I never thought I'd watch an hour-long RUclips video, but Bernadette was the draw for me. I'll share this because it has a lot of useful information.
Thanks, Kas for sharing!
After watching several of her videos, I wondered what she did for work and her background and this video is long overdue for me
Now you see why so many of us follow Bernadette Banner.
Respectfully, you can copy out your thanks and praise & either
A) hand write it out & mail it to her, if she has a po box (sic) over in England
Or
B) attach it to her next video, where she may see it
@@catherinejustcatherine1778 great idea.

I love her! She has that “thing” that draws people into her passion for her craft. Respect for that talent.
Maybe I’m different than most RUclips watchers, but I rarely, rarely, click on something because of a title or image. In Bernadette’s case, it was the content of hand sewing at first and afterward, her personality and passion for the subject that made me a subscriber. I’m an artist and appreciate artistry in many forms.
same, i click for content not flashy title screens
For me the thumbnail is everything. It’s a sneak peak into what your video will reflect, it shows a bit of personality, and the quality of the video itself. In similar ways, it’s also how I choose reading books, I always judge a book by the cover
@@zvezdoblyat I did that once - picked a book by the cover, However that worked out incredibly well and I found a new author that I love. But the cover doesn't dictate if I choose a book or not.

I'm so glad I checked my subscription feed. As I scrolled this one came up. Must be because I'm subscribed to Bernadette. I've always wanted to hear a conversation with her and to hear her background history which she alludes to in her videos but never fully feels you in on. Good pointers on sending that fearless email: when I was an undegraduate in Portugal I emailed a few lecturers back in the UK to do my research project with them, one of them said yes, and doing a project with him changed my life. Just send it!

One of my favourite points of hers is the one about the constant consumption of feedback we're being prompted if not forced to ingest.
Amazing knowledge base (try her video about Broadway costuming businesses when COVID had just closed them), beautiful videos with super fun scripts (who else uses "anon" in a sentence these days?)
Impeccable.

@Greg (Stork) Wilson - Well put.
I watch Bernadette as I’m crocheting and knitting. Her channel is the perfect compliment to any handicraft session.
The world would be a much nicer place if there were more Bernadette Banners on social media
Thank you for the conversation with Bernadette! I appreciate her passion and point of view. The standout tips she shared about content creation was "you have three roles as a creator" talent, film maker and marketer. And lastly, she is earnest in her desire to teach you something wonderful!

I am one of Bernadette's patrons - happily! I'm proud to support such an intelligent and ethical person.
