The comment at the beginning about putting off projects "for 400 years" conjured into my mind the image of an immortal going to their fabric stash, having finally found the right project for some fabric they've been saving, only for it to disintegrate in their hands because it's actually been 400 years since they bought it 😂
😁 I maintain my theory that "Bernadette" Banner is an Immortal and Her real name is Bertha Banner. Cesario is naturally immortal too because of course Guinea pigs are Period!
I have had a vision. (it happens, don't overthink it). The year is 2275, the place is the set of Antiques Roadshow on PBS, where an older woman has brought in an antique wool tweed dress to be appraised, and the two historian/appraisers are nearly giddy with anticipation as they carefully examine the fine hand stitching in an attempt to determine whether this relic is, in fact, an authentic Bernadette Banner masterpiece.
I just wanted to say your captions have always been excellent, but you've truly started outdoing yourself with little details like "music that sounds like starlight". A sincere thank you from a Deaf subscriber!
That's so awesome!!!! I love captions in a lot of respects, but Bernadette is beyond easy to understand for this hearing person, so I don't turn on the captions for her, since I watch her mostly while I'm supposed to be working, and shouldn't be watching, only listening.
I have trouble with auditory processing and so I always use the subs even when I can understand the speaker pretty well. You're absolutely right, she has some of the best subtitle game of anybody I watch!
Can we take a moment to appreciate that not only does Bernadette add subtitles to all of her videos, but she also describes the background music with terms such as "soft bouncy piano" and "music that sounds like starlight"

I love how you bring attention to "mending" and point out how quickly it can be done. Sadly I know ppl that will throw away a dress shirt due to a missing button.
I've got a few dresses and shirts that have lost a button that I kept for the sole purpose of fixing a new button onto only to never actually do it because I don't have buttons and I believe my mum threw all of hers out 😂😂
I have a duvet cover that fastens with buttons, ever so convienient. The buttons have all come off at some point, but sewed them all back on in about 5 minutes. The trick, of course, is to always save the buttons.
Right?! I can't throw anything away, and Bernadette motivated me to actually fix the clothes that are still otherwise wearable. This one friend keeps saying "We need to get you some new clothes, you shouldn't have to be putting those back together." And I'm like, "But I.... _want_ to?" Anyhow, there's now a basket marked "repairs" that I just sit down and work on every month or so. It's just like having new clothes, seriously! 👗🍍

Hi, I just wanted to mention that I love the way you interact with his Lordship Cesario (hope I didn't misspell that) so so much. You see so many people who have guinea pigs just picking them up all the time or trying to play with them or thinking it's fun to chase them around, which from the guinea pig's perspective must be absolutely terrifying. You on the other hand let him be on the floor, where he is most comfortable and he is clearly curious and happy to see you and not terrified like those other piggies I know. I so appreciate that. Also, as always, a beautiful video that made a good start to my day.
This was indeed a joyful and relaxing moment to catch up with you and unwind. I may have giggled at the "Have you seen my walking skirt with stupid socks?" I am happy to see that skirt with socks of any kind. How kind of Juul's friend to find the exact lace! So awesome. Huzzah, the petticoat is done and she is lovely.!!!
As soon as I saw that lace I started hopping up and down in my chair saying “It’s the lace! It’s the Macuba lace for the petticoat! I would know that lace anywhere! Squeee!” ...... I was maybe too excited to see it but can one ever really get “too excited” over lace? I think not

Thank you for always choosing your music carefully, and balancing the levels so nicely. I can always trust your videos to distract me from my aching head. Your dedication to learning and creating quality aesthetic in lighting, background music, clean and balanced voiceovers, and thoughtful subtitles is a joy. Thank you for caring for us with your careful attention to the craft. It is a kindness.
Hehe, I actually tackled my pending mending pile last weekend. Had I but known! Also the glorious end to the petticoat insertion lace saga was oh so satisfying and beautiful. Huzzah!
Oh hey Country Roses cup and saucer! (How do I know that?) Anyway, I’m now motivated to finish hemming the curtains that I...ahem...hacked the bottom off last week and then didn’t get around to actually finishing.
For future reference, i have recently found that if you are making curtains with header tape, then its easier to alter from the top, as you can hide raw edges behind the tape. Especially if they are lined curtains, as you dont have to do the beveled seams at the bottom corner. Its just an unpic header, chop off excess length, fold over and press, then reattach the header tape.

"a small escape from 2020" This was actually a huge escape, it was immensely calming and exceedingly motivational. Spent the duration sewing right along with you. Thank you for creating and sharing :) 💗✨
Yes - I'm here in 2022, feeling that I am still somehow in lockdown due to habits developed during 'ye olde plague', with Bernadette gently leading me by the hand to some of my tasks that I also had put off for the last 400 years... sadly laptop tasks, rather than sewing, but I now have a very nice cup of tea... :-)
This is the content the world needs at the moment 💗 For real though, Bernadette, you got me into hand sewing some years ago, and now it's my to-go-to method of managing my anxiety and to just calm down 💜🪡
Yes, I started sewing in February thanks to her, it has done me a lot of good, it is a really good balance to the heavy brainwork of my studies. So, thank you Bernadette!
I really got way too happy when I saw that you had a stroopwafel with your tea, AND that you warmed it up by putting it on top of the hot beverage!!! So nice to be able to enjoy your calming video since I’m currently in isolation because I’ve got corona and also had to celebrate my 18th birthday alone in my room because of it...
A Bernadette video is always a boost for my seratonin levels, but seeing her enjoy a stroopwafel the way it was intended (warmed by the steam of a hot beverage) truely warms my little Dutch heart ❤️🇳🇱
I was thinking of making a nice wool cloak with fake fur over the shoulders, sort of a game of thrones/viking thing. Then I tried looking up videos on how....and found videos of people making cloaks out of ikea rugs??? And thin safety pinned polyester fabric??? No finished seams? A nightmare! After watching your videos, I'm significantly inspired to make this cloak...but...not out of a rug and some polyester scraps... thank you for inspiring me to put so much effort into making something cool and quality.
Did I see a stroopwafel??? And so Dutch to put it on your tea. Do that all the time! The best way to eat stroopwafels! I am usually knitting while watching your video's. And I have a trail of WIPs in the house, so I am trying to finish those now, starting with a sweater for myself. And then some gifts to finish. Thanks for your lovely inspiration and motivation. Greetings from the Netherlands!
And there Bernadette goes...hopping up on her sewing table so her fans can have a perfect view of absolutely beautiful lace on an amazing petticoat! It really doesn’t get much better than that...and the whole world also now knows why we love her sooooo much!!!
2019 Bernadette: completes chemise a la reine inspired summer dress in autumn 2020 Bernadette: completes alteration for a different summer dress in autumn Both Bernadettes: "It's fine, I'll be able to wear it next summer"
The fact that the video already has subtitles warms my heart. It's the little things like that which make me love Bernadette and her channel even more.
Me: Yay new Bernadette video! Also me: avoids eye contact with pile of mending. Side note- can one request an entire guinea pig ASMR video? His Lordship can sing me the song of his people anytime lol
I adore the knowledge that, despite her ethereal, aesthetic online presence, Bernadette wears goofy modern socks, at least occasionally. I have a deep love of kooky socks myself, so this is an especially lovely turn of things!
I did NOT expect to be called out like that right at the start of a Bernadette Banner video lmao. All I have to do is make one little belt for one little girl's Halloween costume, and here I am, avoiding it like some hypothetical plague that couldn't possibly keep me locked up in my house for 8 months.... Right?
The cosy vibes! The piggy squeaks! The gasp when I saw that beautiful lace! This was a lovely moment of reprieve and there's something to be said for the power of suggestion, because within thirty seconds, I had paused and picked up a blanket in need of tinking and finally got that started..
Puffy sleeves and a waistcoat, unbeatable! I am trying not to start a new sewing project before the others are finished, but you are definititely not helping. And I completely relate to the not warm weather appropriate wardrobe. Tweed...
I just want to say thank you for your extra care with subtitles. I am one that always need them and the extra little things like "soft bouncy piano" vs "music" and "tea pouring" vs "clinking" add to the overall appeal to your lovely videos. I am one that also sews by hand...embroidery and cross-stitching...which initially brought me to your videos since so few slow down and highlight each step carefully as you do. So again thank you and please continue.
I’m now going to create a label/sign/plaque to place up on my wall to put above my mending that states “Doom Pile” because it amuses me. Also, I need to know what is your lip color? It’s beauteous. Also, this week I took classes to learn how to use my serger/coverstitch machine. The instructor never heard of the term “cabbage” for scraps and I was delighted to inform her of this wonderful word, it’s meaning and where it came from. Oh the passing on of history!
Extremely soothing, and honestly a relief to know that not everything is actually completely done when a video/photo goes up 😉 I love that pretty summer dress! Its always nice to look forward to when you can wear your 'new' items!
Bernadette, I didn't expect that, but this video made me literally to move my ass from the computer and start doing things around my flat. Thank you, thank you hundred times for this, and your socks aren't stupid. Also, big shoutout for person who found lace for you :). Lots of love
I know I will be lost in your comment section but your videos usually bring me so much comfort along with inspiration. But this video was especially comforting on a bad day and just what I needed. Also, in your first review of function of beauty you said you were not a style influencer but I must say, you have had a huge influence on my style as of late. Thank you for these wonderful videos!
I've noticed that this year, I have made so many things just for myself. I had all my costuming events cancelled, so why make anything extravagant? At first, I was sad about that, but now I know that it was probably the best for me.
I always get a smile on my face when I get the notification that you have a video out. This one was delightful, thank you! Did I actually sew along with it? No. But there is a puppy on my lap and that is my excuse.
I'm currently three days into sewing a woolen skirt by hand, and this was a great distraction for my frustration. Making pockets look pretty is hard. Thank you for all the inspiration!
Hi Bernadette, i live over in Australia and I am witnessing what is starting to happen over in America at the moment, and i just wanted to send you my best wishes and to say stay safe and hope all goes well for you and that the protests don't impact you too badly, Stay safe, Kitten Cat 💋
I have always wondered if cutting up cabbage and thread ends was a historically accurate stuffing technique, as I do the same. I don’t throw away any of my scraps or thread ends purely for the hope that they won’t end up in landfill, and because it can be very useful!
I love how much thought you put into the subtitles, Bernadette. It's a fun little insight into how you see things for me, a hearing person, but I can imagine that for someone who is hard of hearing, it gives a little more context than they would get with something that just says 'music'. So thank you for that.
Even a year later I still enjoy watching your pretty, even, delicate hand sewing. This did actually inspire me to go back to my recent nordic corner-to-corner crochet blanket to finish weaving in all the ridiculous ends so I can actually use it for this winter! Cheers :D
This is the only channel I keep the subtitles on bc it's just so damn lovely! And now I feel like I should tackle my bag of mending that has been waiting for me for ever...
Absolutely love that wrap dress and the piggy pillow and the toasty socks. I'm not allowing myself to start any sewing projects until I finish cleaning and purging the craft room. Maybe this video will inspire me to finish. Or maybe just inspire me to watch more videos...
I relate to this video 100%! This was a perfect 12 minutes of mending my sewing mind! That red blouse and jacket are stunning and what creature on earth can claim a hand sewn pillow! What more can I say but you created a cinematic moment of skin care, you're really talented!
Yes we do! I went back there in December and they had the majority of the trims that the New York one had(as seen from Bernadette's video's) They also have silk ribbons! It's located on Queen's Street West. So you get on University Line and take the subway till Osgoode, and then you just walk for about 15 minutes till you hit it and the rest of the fabric and beading shops!
Oh my word! You have a stroopwafel perched on your cup of tea... I'm so glad I'm not alone in procrastinating at Olympic level. I can mend and alter quickly and efficiently for other people, but when it comes to my own clothes, I'm a fiend for displacement activities. I'm so enjoying your videos; over 40 years ago, I studied History of Costume and wrote my thesis on the development of riding dress. Watching you put traditional and historical techniques in practice is a real blast from my past, and you present your material so beautifully and entertainingly.
Hey, so this is entirely beside the point, but just a quick heads up about the serum. When you apply it I would highly recommend dropping it into your hands before applying it to your face. If you touch the dropper to your face it can pick up bacteria which can continue to grow inside the product and cause you skin problems down the line 😊
I’m recovering from knee replacement surgery and your videos have been just what I needed to relax and recuperate and still be inspired. Thank you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What a cosy video 🥰 That lace is so beautiful! How wonderful someone was able to hunt it down so you got to finish the petticoat. And thanks for the inspiration to finish off unfinished projects. I bought more clasps the other day that’s just sitting on the table looking at me. Time to sew them on.
A wonderful momentary escape and also motivation to finally accomplish all of my own overly-procrastinated small sewing projects 🤣 I hope His Lordship ends up using his new pillows!
I needed this video, thank you! I'm currently doing the same - working on old abandoned projects or mending before I get to do a new one. I've spent the whole year doing it and I'm now down to 4 projects left! It was nice to sew mine along with you doing yours.
"Do you ever do that thing where you put of your small entirely not time-consuming sewing projects for approximately 400 years?" No, because firstly unlike you I am not immortal and secondly I can't actually sew (being small repairs), I just come here for the relaxing atmosphere of your videos. 💙
The comment at the beginning about putting off projects "for 400 years" conjured into my mind the image of an immortal going to their fabric stash, having finally found the right project for some fabric they've been saving, only for it to disintegrate in their hands because it's actually been 400 years since they bought it 😂

@@johannageisel5390 It can be easy to confuse the two. I think Ms. Banner rests on the dividing line between them. One day a fairy, the next a witch.

A stroopwafel!!! This Dutchie was screaming at the TV
I love caramel stroopwafe💖 Have you ever tried DeRuÿter? Sooo good!
The stroopwafel was the highlight of this video for me as well!
Let's nooit forget she also appropriately warned the stroopwafel by putting it on top of the tea cup!!
My heart melted like the caramel inside....
Same here, love the sewing anyway, but the stroopwafel made my day!
(How do I know that?)
Anyway, I’m now motivated to finish hemming the curtains that I...ahem...hacked the bottom off last week and then didn’t get around to actually finishing.
Don't feel bad, Jill, I have a set of curtains I hacked a month ago and probably will not get to for another month 😕
@@helenascribe210 Half-finished curtain alterations ftw!
@@carliegriffiths6290 Good tip! I have finally finished them and they look pretty good and I am terribly pleased with myself XD
@@JillBearup as you should be!! Its such a nice feeling when your items are just perfect for what you want. And as we all know, doing it yourself is pretty much the only way to get that! Ive got some big heavy drapes that apparently need shortening as they drag on the floor (i say thats good for heat retention personally!) Ybe sd jsadd a dust ruffle to the bottom? 😄
"a small escape from 2020"
This was actually a huge escape, it was immensely calming and exceedingly motivational. Spent the duration sewing right along with you. Thank you for creating and sharing :) 💗✨
Yes. I am also getting through 2020 by trying to return to. “Victorian Lady” life style.
A year and a half later it’s still a joy to watch and calm the nerves
Yes - I'm here in 2022, feeling that I am still somehow in lockdown due to habits developed during 'ye olde plague', with Bernadette gently leading me by the hand to some of my tasks that I also had put off for the last 400 years... sadly laptop tasks, rather than sewing, but I now have a very nice cup of tea... :-)
This is the content the world needs at the moment 💗 For real though, Bernadette, you got me into hand sewing some years ago, and now it's my to-go-to method of managing my anxiety and to just calm down 💜🪡
Same!
Yes, I started sewing in February thanks to her, it has done me a lot of good, it is a really good balance to the heavy brainwork of my studies. So, thank you Bernadette!
Alternate title: Bernadette being adorable for 12 minutes.
😆 I so agree!
Very accurate!
True
And His Lordship too!
I really got way too happy when I saw that you had a stroopwafel with your tea, AND that you warmed it up by putting it on top of the hot beverage!!! So nice to be able to enjoy your calming video since I’m currently in isolation because I’ve got corona and also had to celebrate my 18th birthday alone in my room because of it...
,Happy Birthday!! I am so sorry about the corona, and hope you are getting better.
Happy Birthday 🎉🎁🎊🎂🎈 I Hope you feel better soon and that you’re able to celebrate with your loved ones 🎉🎉🎉
Happy Birthday! Hope you feel better soon
Happy birthday! I hope you find some luck during these dreadful times and be healthy and happy ✨
Happy birthday to ya and get well soon.
A Bernadette video is always a boost for my seratonin levels, but seeing her enjoy a stroopwafel the way it was intended (warmed by the steam of a hot beverage) truely warms my little Dutch heart ❤️🇳🇱
Stroopwafel on tea cup. perfect.
funnily enough, I'm just sitting here in Rotterdam, heavy rain, and have the EXACT same thing for breakfast.
Love the pirate shirt and waistcoat together! This is my dream aesthetic!
I GASPED when I saw the insertion lace, oh my goodness Bernadette! I'm so glad that viewer found some more!
I was reading Sew Witchy: Tools, Techniques & Projects for Sewing Magick by Raechel Henderson...and this video got me to actually DO TINY PROJECT.
ooh! that's going on my To Read list for sure!
How dare you enable me with such things... *proceeds to buy this book*
(In all seriousness - thank you, this looks like a fun read)
I was thinking of making a nice wool cloak with fake fur over the shoulders, sort of a game of thrones/viking thing. Then I tried looking up videos on how....and found videos of people making cloaks out of ikea rugs??? And thin safety pinned polyester fabric??? No finished seams? A nightmare! After watching your videos, I'm significantly inspired to make this cloak...but...not out of a rug and some polyester scraps... thank you for inspiring me to put so much effort into making something cool and quality.
Greetings, Tosh! Did you make your cloak?
I love watching you hand-sew... I don’t know why... I just love watching the needle take neat and precise little bites into the cloth...
2019 Bernadette: completes chemise a la reine inspired summer dress in autumn
2020 Bernadette: completes alteration for a different summer dress in autumn
Both Bernadettes: "It's fine, I'll be able to wear it next summer"
The legend tells that she doesn't have enough summer days to wear all of her summer's creations
I especially liked the summer dress. You looked very fetching in it.
Ahh!!.....fetching it is!
She looked fabulous in that dress! I wish more women would express their femininity.
"Have you ever put off a project for approximately a century?"
*Solemnly looks at pile of beautiful fabric that I intended to turn into a blazer*
Did you end up making the blazer?! 😊
Seconded!
Also in favour of more floofy content anytime!
I ve been giving my pile of work that needs done an equine worthy side eye everytime I walk past.
I may or may not have squealed out a gleeful, “STROOPWAFEL!” at one point in this video...
Yes. 🤣
Hahaha me too!
Thank you for identifying the delicious looking snack!
As a Dutctwoman this made me very happy :]
Me too 🤣
I adore the knowledge that, despite her ethereal, aesthetic online presence, Bernadette wears goofy modern socks, at least occasionally. I have a deep love of kooky socks myself, so this is an especially lovely turn of things!
Hi, I am 16 and from Germany. I love ♥️ you, your videos and sewing. You are sooo pretty and your Style is amazing 💕
Right?
Watching this video is what actually motivated me to start the quilt I've been needing to start in for the passed weeks.
Bernadette could practically be an ASMR channel at this point.. such nice sewing noises and visuals 🧘♀️💤💙
I could see the lady Sherlock skirt a million times. The lady Sherlock ensemble is the favorite thing that I have ever seen on any of your videos.
Oh sorry I'm not sure--it's a free sample 😅😅
@@bernadettebanner Yippeee - your summer dress is ready in time for next summer! Perfect timing, I'd say.💖💖
Extremely soothing, and honestly a relief to know that not everything is actually completely done when a video/photo goes up 😉
I love that pretty summer dress! Its always nice to look forward to when you can wear your 'new' items!
I don't know why but I just almost cried from the relief that you found more of the lace to complete the petticoat!
that outfit in the intro is absolutely _immaculate._ What a way to truly manifest your passion, you are such an inspiration.
"Music that sounds like starlight", "music that sounds like snowfall" Aaaah I love your captions So much!
I literally gasped when you pulled the lace out of the package! OMG! So excited for the petticoat to be done for real this time!
1:30 your clasp may have sharp edges that are cutting the thread. Use a fingernail file to remove. 💜🌞🌵😷
Interesting! I would not have thought of THAT one. Good point.
Yup, metal and plastic burr or mould lines are evil on thread.
My problem at the moment isn't sewing but working on my dissertation. You've inspired me to pick it up again.
Loving that red blouse 😍
Good luck, dissertation writing is a marathon. You got this!
@@phoenixkh93 thank you so much ❤
I've noticed that this year, I have made so many things just for myself.
Your excuse is totally valid. Carry on with the puppy nap 🐶
I'm currently three days into sewing a woolen skirt by hand, and this was a great distraction for my frustration. Making pockets look pretty is hard. Thank you for all the inspiration!
Hi Bernadette, i live over in Australia and I am witnessing what is starting to happen over in America at the moment, and i just wanted to send you my best wishes and to say stay safe and hope all goes well for you and that the protests don't impact you too badly,
Stay safe, Kitten Cat 💋
That "Dear domestic creature, please play with this new thing" feeling is real.
I was hoping Toronto would have some of the lace. :) Glad you were able to get some.
"or was just something pretty to look at and maybe a small scape from 2020", Bernadette, loml, you are always an scape from the bad things in life
I relate to this video 100%! This was a perfect 12 minutes of mending my sewing mind! That red blouse and jacket are stunning and what creature on earth can claim a hand sewn pillow! What more can I say but you created a cinematic moment of skin care, you're really talented!
Can I just say how lovely it is that you narrate the music? Like when the screencap says "music that sounds like starlight" makes me so emotional.
10:18 "music that sounds like snowfall" I love
"7 weeks of procrastinating for 10 minutes of mending." Girl same.
Also, when you showed the lace, I thought, "Oh my word! She got it!"
The mokuba in Toronto
Me who lives close by: THERE IS A MOKUBA IN CANADA!?!?
Well now I have a need to go on an adventure!!
I think i will join in on the "WE HAVE THAT IN CANADA?????" train
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY.
Ya I was confuzzled too
@@taylarmarr475 thank you so so so so soooo much! I know me being me, I would get lost even with a map. These directions are great :)
omg his lordship with the cute small pillows !!! so cute!!!!
I've lost my "sewjo" lately...have too much ideas, and a astonishing tartan fabric waiting for me. This video is the perfect kick I needed. 💗
That summer dress is gorgeous! And suits you beautifully
I’m recovering from knee replacement surgery and your videos have been just what I needed to relax and recuperate and still be inspired. Thank you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You like to hand sew while I enjoy watching you hand sew. Win win. So relaxing and a great escape from my teaching.
WONDERFUL!!!💖🦌❄
Thank you! I've been doing my best!
Aw, this was so good...and relaxing....and motivational...and so many things! ❤️
"Do you ever do that thing where you put of your small entirely not time-consuming sewing projects for approximately 400 years?"
