    I’m thinking to buy the leather navigation, but i can see in your video that your navigation has a different design on the side pockets. Could you tell me why the leather navigation side pockets are different than the nylon one?
    Also I’m considering to buy the nomadic backpack for my travel to Japan. Which one do you think I should buy? The navigation leather or the nomadic?
    Thanks! Looking forward to hearing from you!!

    • @BioGear

      Navigation nylon has that anti-abrasive material on the sides, and they have near-useless anchor points on them. Navigation leather side anchor points are much more robust. I still hardly consider them much benefiting the bag unless you plan to hook attachments to them (not necessary, the bag has plenty of utility as-is). When I make my Japan trip soon, I'll be taking the Nomadic, as it's an incredibly capable bag with lots of room, pockets, and is relatively slim. I could sum it up like this: daily life = navigation, travel = nomadic

      I bought one of the bags that you purchased a year ago. How has the bag held up? Did you ever enjoy using it, and if you did - do you still want it? Also, is it a travel or everyday backpack, and how do you choose to use it? I am pretty excited about getting it - it is on the way as I bought it tonight - and I wanted to know about anyone else's experience. Thanks in advance if you have the time to respond.

      @@iu1191 I love it! I've been using the bag almost everyday for both travel and as my daily pack! It's held up really well even when fully packed with heavy electronics. There are a few scuff marks from its frequent use but other than that it looks practically brand new.

      @nothabksg Thanks so much for replying. I really love the Tumi pebbled leather. I have it in the Harrison Bates and love how that still looks amazing, so I have high hopes for the Navigation. I saw it and had to splurge to get it, but I think it will last a long time.
      I think I will be using it just as you describe because the size is perfect for throwing in some tech and going to a meeting or something like that. The Harrison will do what it is supposed to do and be the one I wear when I have something more formal to go to but still don't want to carry a briefcase.
      Can't wait for it to arrive now 😁
      Thanks again and belated congrats on getting the bag.
      Oh ... One other thing ... Do you see many people with this backpack on your travels? I am a Tumi spotter when I am in the airport or commuting, but I don't really see this one all over the place. It is kind of rare out there. Is that your experience, or do you see it a lot?
      For clarity, I don't really care if other people are using it - I would have it even if everyone else also had one. I just don't see it much out there, and I was wondering if that was just because of my location .... or maybe it's just me, ☺.

  • @DasPorkwerks
    @DasPorkwerks 2 года назад

    Interesting. I have one of the "classic" Knox backpacks and didn't realize they'd done away with the d-rings and loops on the shoulder straps. Mine has them and I'm glad to see they're back. I haven't handled a Navigator yet, but I've been looking at them for all the improvements you mentioned. The new compartment layout with the laptop/tablet space narrower, and the other compartment more open is welcome. I always found the split between the two in the Knox usable, but both felt a bit cramped when not expanded. Not sure if the side pockets are taller - they look a little taller - but that would be nice since I make good use of those. Looks like lots of little tweaks over the Knox without changing the character. Helpful review. Thanks!

    I think tumi has started to change their models to often, fine that they had a special color or pattern for one season, but now they change what used to be their classical models every season and they do not have the models for years. Their classic Alpha wash bags has been like the best you can have, they have had almost the same design through Alpha 1, Alpha 2 and the Alpha 3 series, now they just removed them with a smaller and less functional washing bag. I am so glad I got one for Christmas last year before it sold out.

    • @BioGear

      I agree, especially over the last 2 years, I have watched several new and interesting models of bags come and go missing completely ofter very little sale time. At least some bags have only small interations, but others just completely disappear

  • @iu1191
    @iu1191 2 года назад +4

    Great bag review - not enough Tumi actual reviews on youtube, so thanks for doing this. Love the bag. I have had the Kingsville Delux Briefpack (big brother to the Knox) from many years ago, and it is still going strong. I have never seen someone review how the bags are doing years in. Everyone says that Tmui bags last a long time, and I can atest that they do, but I have not found a youtuber that has done such a test or made such a comment. Maybe I need to do that, haha. Thanks for the review. I will keep looking ou for it - a lovely bag.
    In everyday use - do you actually notice a difference with your previous use of the Nathen or the Knox even? If so, I would be grateful to hear the main practical differences in use from your perspective. If you have the time, of course. Haha. Thanks.,

    • @BioGear
      @BioGear  2 года назад +1

      Kingsville deluxe was my first ever tumi bag. Most bags I buy stay in orestine condition due to how I treat and use my bags, but I've had a Larson and Nellis for nearly 3 years and they're still 9/10 condition. Also if you have a Knox, I think the Nathan and Navigator are good upgrades. But if you have a Nathan, I wouldn't bother :) the main difference is the Nathan and nav both hold more items, and have a superior front pocket. Knox is very slim and I find the front pocket unusable. Not a deal breaker but the new stuff is better.

    • @iu1191
      @iu1191 2 года назад +1

      @@BioGear Agreed on the differences. I keep thinking my Kningsville is too big then I use it again and I fall in love with it all over again. Tumi make great bags. The front pocket that came when the Nathan, Shepherd, etc came on the scene is much more useful and I am glad they have kept it. Might have to see the knox and get one of the new ones - gonna be a hard things to do though. Love the knox. Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

      I have a Tumi Alpha Expandable briefcase that I bought in 2013. 9 years later, still going strong and not a single problem. In fact, the ballistic nylon still looks fresh and new. Compare that with an eBags backpack that I bought in 2017 and after ~1.5 years, it was looking tired and ragged. Hence why I'm looking into this Tumi backpack, based on my prior experiences.

    • @iu1191
      @iu1191 2 года назад +1

      @rxl77 Totally the Tumi experience. I hear this all the time and I am experiencing the same thing. Buy Tumi once. I got them for my wife too. The best experience I have had with bags. My job meant I traveled to 50 countries in about 10 years. They held up great and I still have the one that started it all. I bought it in May 2013. Wow.
      Funny thing - I got a Samsonite leather backpack (an emergency purchase, and it seemed like a good deal - I thought I would try something different and see what happened) and three weeks later it had a tear in one of the shoulder straps. They wouldn't replace it. My Tumi backpack could be sold today as barely used after it came around the world with me. I bought a Tumi Harrison Bates leather backpack - I love it so much. It is now my briefcase replacement. I absolutely love it. Today - it looks better than the day I bought it!

  • @zachydrogeo
    @zachydrogeo 2 года назад +5

    Great review! I've been using the Knox backpack for years. I really like the functionality and size, but I'm looking to upgrade because I was never in love with the styling, and the only one I could afford at the time was from an outlet, thus they made it have an ugly color scheme (green and bright orange). I definitely think the Nathan and Navigation look better, and I'd like to upgrade to one or the other. Putting aside pricing and finding a used Nathan that's legit, my biggest concern with Tumi backpacks involves their size/ bulkiness. I think most Tumi bags are targeted at older (and larger) men. I'm a relatively slim, 5'10 guy and I think most of their backpacks look *ridiculous* on me. To put it directly, I don't want a backpack that is deeper or wider than I am.
    The question: Do you know how deep/ tall/ wide these two are compared to the Knox, and also to each other?
    Thanks, and please keep making videos!

    • @BioGear
      @BioGear  2 года назад +1

      The Nathan and Knox are nearly identical in all dimensions , however the front pocket of the Nathan makes it a slight bit more deep (off the back). The Navigation is slightly taller, and can now more comfortably fit a MacBook pro 16, which the other two can't/shouldnt (barely). My opinion is that if you're happy with the Knox size, you aren't going to be unhappy with Nathan or nav. The other option is, depending on what your carrying, to check out the smaller bags like the Dynamic, Clinton, and Nottaway. All of which are smaller, so you'll have to gauge your carry load. I think the nav and nathan fit in a perfect size class though :) hope that helps!!

    Enjoyed the review! I was in the Tumi store his past weekend and was asking about any new backpacks, and this is the first time I really wanted to see more, but they sold out immediately and didn't have any in the store. I found your review and it answered my questions. Strangely enough, the hidden pocket for my cell is a MASSIVE selling point. I'm always just throwing my cell in my backpack at security and wishing I had a better place for it. Which this has. I see your point about the accessories being a little bit of a gimmick, however, my current backpack has a compartment specifically designed for chargers, wires, accessories, etc., which I absolutely love. And apparently, the Tumi accessory that holds chargers and wires and "hangs" inside the backpack would replace the compartment that I currently have. So I would recommend trying that particular out. You may find you like it a lot. I intend too. Anyway, loved the review and your vibe. Well done.

    Thank you for the excellent review. It would be really helpful if you were to show the interior main compartment of the navigation expanded. Perhaps you could insert it into your review? Interested to see how it compares with the same compartment in the Search. Which is roomier? When the main compartment of the navigation is expanded how does it carry? With a heavy load that load would be further from your back than is the case with the Nellis. Which bag works better expanded? I think the organised first compartment of the Nellis is superior to the arrangement In the navigation. Functionally I don’t believe that the Navigation is an improvement over the Nellis. However It is I think better looking. Would be interested to hear your view. Trying to decide between search and navigation. Lastly are the side pockets of the navigation more awkward to use with a water bottle? They look better but are narrower than those in the Nellis..

      @BioGear  13 дней назад

      @@MrPrashanth0417 the navigation is a well rounded daily backpack that can expand for more space. The nomadic is a larger bag that expands for even more space. If you don’t carry much more than a laptop, tablet, and a few items a day, the navigation is more convenient. If you carry lots of items with you or travel often, the nomadic offers more space and will likely pay off. Even so, the nomadic is an excellent daily bag but just takes up more space than navigation.

    What's your take on the olive green version of the Navigation backpack? Are the materials the same compared to the black or navy version. Found a real one for $210

    • @BioGear
      @BioGear  Год назад

      Real is the most important factor, the fakes are trash. The green and red colorways use a parachute-like material and the bag has very little rigidity, so it caves in on itself like your average cheap bag. That's the reason I look for the better material variants, and the nylons like black and blue are fine. At $210 the green is tempting though, not gonna lie!

      If I could have only 1 tumi backpack and those were my options, I would probably go Search. I do prefer the smaller size of the Navigation, but I know that sometimes I need just a tad more room and I don't really like using the expansion zipper on the Nav, so the search would be a tad more useful, though it is larger and less streamlined (not much though, let's be real). They're both excellent, I may sell my Sheppard and replace it with a search.

It's no joke that I say it's been through a lot and with all that, it's held up remarkably well. Not a single point of failure and get this, the the nylon of the briefcase looks just as good as the new Search backpack I picked up today. Contrast that, with another brand (ebags) slim professional backpack that I bought a few years back to try to save wear and tear on my shoulder and spine - within a year the nylon was looking pretty beat up and ragged. Went right back to my Tumi briefcase for the durability. Finally gave in on upgrading to a Tumi backpack. Yes, expensive but worth it if it lasts a decade or two. Hey! I think I found your black leather navigation on ebay? I was wondering if there was a reason you were selling it? I'm going back to school soon and am torn between the search and the navigation. Also I watched on your video on materials, do you see any reason other than scratches to not get the leather? I'm assuming it is still water proof? Basically the navigation would be perfect for school, but I travel and think that maybe it would be too small to travel with? And that makes me want to get the search, but day to day will it be too big? What are your thoughts having owned both?

    • @BioGear
      @BioGear  10 месяцев назад +1

      So the Search has larger front and side pockets, and larger main compartment, but the Navigation can expand the main compartment as needed. I traveled to Alaska with my Navigation rather than the serach so I could keep it smaller or larger as needed and it did perfect. Unless you really want the larger bag, I tend to recommend the Navigation becasue how perfect of a daily bag it is. The leather is beautiful, and much more rigid than the Nylon, I just happened to love the quilted material more which is why I'm letting the leather go. I bet it'll be absolutely fine getting rained on, the leather and zippers are great. Hope that helps :)

    Nick what's your opinion on the Search vs the Navigator. Do you think its worth the extra cost?

      I tend to pack as small as possible so I bought the Nav, but you can't go wrong with the Search if you're OK with the extra dimensions, it's a similar layout to the Sheppard which is one of tumis best all-around designs.

    What is the estimated max liters?

    • @BioGear
      @BioGear  2 года назад

      Apologies, I'm not used to volume sizes and Tumi doesn't list them... It is similar in size to a 20L backpack i had, though.

      @@BioGear I’m like curious because your video was great with the esport large bag. I’ve had it for a few months now It’s way better than I thought coming from nomatic and peak design. I was looking at getting a new one. Seems like this one would be great for light daily carry.

      @@MVirnig3D That makes sense, compared to the Esports Large, the Navigator is quite a bit slimmer and smaller. I feel much less like a turtle with it over the Esport L, like i can wear this one everywhere and not stand out. This bag (like the Nathan) is my go-to for recommendations because its so well balanced between small size and capability. Great pocketing, too.

      @@BioGear I will have to check it out. Like I said I love my esport bag but it does feel big sometimes. I think I’ll end up checking this one out for a daily work bag. Btw love all your videos and keep up the good work. Also, Do you have any recommendations for a tech pouch?

      @@MVirnig3D I Appreciate it! Yes, I dont have one yet but super interested in the AER cable kit 2. I have Tumi's esports accessory kit but it feels overpriced for what it does

    @BioGear the water bottle side pockets look tiny. Do you find they actually hold a large bottle of water (say one you would get from an airport)? Or did you have to buy a smaller reusable bottle to fit in the pockets?

    • @BioGear
      @BioGear  Год назад +1

      Small bottles only, id say no larger than the 16 oz bottles. If you want it to zip up, go even smaller!
