      Me too...I have the Shepard, and liked it, but the color options were not ideal for me. This bag, however, is perfect! But now, I just have to decide if I want to spend 600 bucks on a bag that I do not utilize very often as I am now working from home. That said, I am a sucker for a cool-looking black , well-made, bag...

    I was deciding between the Search and Navigation and ended up keeping the Search.
    I’ve had this bag for about a month now and have used it on several trips now including one bag travel 3-4 day trips. Agree with all the points here - a bit large for an EDC but can store enough clothing for a long weekend. It’s quite a bit larger than the Nellis if anyone is wondering.
    The top part does droop a bit but I usually use the bag fully packed out so not really an issue I’ve run into.
    The Search is big enough for Peak Design medium and small cubes fully packed out, plus a small Dopp kit. The side pockets are what really convinced me to pick this over the Navigation - you can fit an 18 oz HydroFlask in one and a collapsible umbrella in the other and still zip them closed easily. Love that!

    Just wanted to say a big thanks again for the video. It answered the questions I had about Navigator vs Search. I bought the search and I am glad I did. I was worried it would be huge but it wasn't and I think the Navigation would have been too small for me. I use the bag for carrying my Laptop, iPads, Passport, Camera and a couple of lenses and other tech and things I wouldn't want to put in the hold including a Mac Mini ! It's also big enough to carry a small man bag. This way I can put my Seach backpack in the overhead and have a small bag with my essentials when on a long flight. I think that it will be a perfect bag for what I need. I used to use the conventional Alpha Bravo briefcases style bags but found although they were great bags they weren't as easy to carry when heavy. I got the Navy version of the search and the colour is great. Very happy with my purchase and thanks again for the video.

    • @BioGear
      @BioGear  2 года назад +1

      That's a hit of conflict because I absolutely love the Esports backpacks, but the esports large is a moderately large bag. It holds a lot of gear and has amazing features, but I have a soft spot for small bags. That being said, I'd probsbly still keep it over the Search if I could only have one. I prioritize carrying a laptop and miscellaneous goodies, and the esports bags are just really well designed

      I checked out one recently at the outlet mall, it's a lot better than it used to be. I still prefer the search because I like the layout better, but I'm not going to dismiss the compact brief pack, it has a good amount of pockets as well. If you can try one on, I advise you do so, I've always found the Alpha to have less comfortable straps than the Alpha Bravo line (they curve odd and rest on the shoulders funny).

    Great job, Nick, on another Tumi review. I was going to purchase the Navigation before I saw your video and you nicely point out the added features and benefits of the Search over the Navigation. I picked up the Search in leather after comparing it to the ballistic version. For +$200 more I think the leather is worth the extra price. Certainly the ballistic fabric would be more durable; however, I think the leather they are using will hold up well by taking care of the bag and periodically using the Tumi leather conditioners. Again, well done.....Tumi needs to hire you as a Brand Influencer!

    I literally lived in this video for a month and bought Search at last : instead of Alpha 3 Brief Pack.
    Appreciate to BIO!
    For those who consider between 2.
    100 Business meeting purpose : why not Brief pack.
    Why Search as my 1st (only perhaps) tumi bag.
    - Strap Design etc offers comfort while carrying. Especially with weight? Oh, definitely. Search is comfortable.
    - Brief pack Way too bulky for me : chic but too rectangle
    - Quick temporary pocket : cool option for sunglasses & my gopro
    Compromise
    The famous upfront zipper of search (which makes it look like Jansport? when it's empty) : For me, it does not exist. I put 2 sunglasses cases and no issue. It looks good. it's uncomfortable enough to access quickly anyway.
    Still, the front pocket does its job.
    meanwhile, the front pockets of the brief pack seem small & the smallest pocket in the very above looks really difficult to open due to the leather part.

      The overall layout of the bags are similar. The front pocket feels a bit wider, but I wouldn’t say it’s substantially different. It does have 2 zippers now instead of one. The biggest differences I saw were the new style of laptop compartment, and just the overall more tactical look.

    Hi - am debating between Search and Navigation for a travel backpack (in addition to a small carry on roller-bag). I am 5-5, female, average frame. I don't like the Wedge shape of the Navigation when expanded (it also seems to tip over towards the back when standing up when i have a laptop and tablet back there) but I am concerned about getting the Search beneath the seat in an aisle seat (specifically Southwest Airlines). Any idea if it can be shoved under there?

      The Search isn't a huge bag, just a tad larger than the navigation. It also fits under airline seats just fine. I just sold mine though, lol. I don't use my Navigation expanded, and I haven't seen it tip over yet, sad to hear yours is giving you trouble :/

      The alpha 3 brief pack and search have different design language, the brief pack is aimed more at business environments, and the search is focused more on everyday. I found the Search far more comfortable to wear, and a bit more to my taste. The brief pack is a deeper bag, sticking off your back further, and can hold an insane amount of stuff. The search can hold almost as much. My biggest strike against the Alpha 3 is the poor shoulder strap placement and shape, and the depth, it sticks off my back further than I want. That's my 2 cents :)

      Thanks this is great. This would definitely be for work. I have just been trying to figure out could I pack a suit in this and a work shirt or two, where they would normally fit nice and flat in my roller board. I like the looks of the brief pack more but also heard that one doesn’t have a lot of padding or false bottom for my laptop? So I may get stuck keeping my laptop case with either as well. I assume the search has the same bottom.

    • @BioGear

      Both backpacks have a fully padded laptop compartment, with some foam on bottom surface. A brief pack will hold more clothes, and the main compartment does open wider for easier packing. If you fold well you can fit several articles in without problem. I suggest visiting a tumi store if possible, or order one in, and as long as you don't monogram it or damage it, you can return it in 30 days. I need to do a review on the brief pack, I had 2 and sold them lol.

      Congratulations, its a great bag! You can place your macbook in the padded laptop pocket, and you can place the Ipad 13 in the “document” pocket also in that zippered area. There is a slightly padded ipad pocket next to the laptop pocket, but since the ipad 13 is too big for it, using the other document pocket wont hurt it because the bottom of the backpack is padded. From a designer standpoint, if tumi is going to charge 600 for a backpack, it needs to offer more than just hold things and flop around like a $16 jansport. Some of us buy expensive backpacks because they look nice, too. The tactical comment is in comparison to backpacks with Molle, which these series of Alpha Bravo have similar, the tumi+ loops and accessories. The Alpha 3 brief pack has a wider-opening main compartment than Search and a boxier design. The top handle placement is on the bag itself rather than between the straps. My biggest gripes on the Alpha are how fat it feels sticking off the back, and mostly the straps not being as comfortable as the Search, otherwise they’re both excellent at holding lots of goodies

    Hi there... Fantastic review...Love your stuff.. you're probably the only one out there doing these Tumi reviews in a legit format so please keep doing more... Also noticed that you had a quick snippet of the Tumi+ accessories.... Looking forward to your reviews on the whole suite of Tumi+ accessories too as some of them can seem kinda pricy for what they are...
    Just a quick question... I already have the latest Alpha Bravo Advanced Briefcase (also compatible with tumi+) that I take to the office daily... Am looking for a backpack for long distance travel particularly for bringing maybe a t-shirt + sweater/jacket + laptop + ipad + tech pouches + book + etc... Would you recommend the Search or the Navigation for that? Where I live they do not have these in store so I am not able to take a look for myself before i take the plunge! Would appreciate any kind of help! Maybe you could do one of those "what can fit into my backpack" kinda reviews that compares both? Just a suggestion!

    • @BioGear
      @BioGear  2 года назад +2

      Glad I can help! I have an Advanced brief also, love it. The Navigation can hold almost as much as the Search but gets full quicker. The Search holds a lot. They both have good organization. If it's a jacket, shirt, book and tech kits, the Search may be your bet. If that load isn't very frequent and you travel light more often than not, the Nav is thinner and gives you a smaller footprint.
      May need to make some videos with fitting gear in the bags, thanks! The tumi+ gear isn't amazing, I do like the organizer but the outer pockets are OK, I returned the pocket for the organizer

    Hi BioGear, great review. I'd like to ask if you've faced similar issues on the Navigation regarding the 'caving' in impact on the badge, and how you've worked around that (if u ever found one). Also wondering if you knew how sturdy those daisy chains are, as I was wondering if i should carabiner a 20z hydroflask on one of the daisy chains on mine.

    • @BioGear
      @BioGear  Год назад +1

      The navigation is less prone to caving, but ultimately the fabric options change everything. The grey 'dynamic stitch' option is solid, and I have both the navigation and search in it. Both incredibly well built. As far as the tumi+ accessories, they'll add some pull on the straps but honestly it's not a huge issue, ultimately the bags may sag some but won't be ruined or anything. Just drives my OCD crazy lol

    Honestly, I wish I could give you 5 stars.
    Excellent review and overview of the bag.
    I have the Kingsville Delux Briefpack from years ago, and it is still such a go-to backpack for me that I find myself going back to it repeatedly.
    I have kept telling myself that I would switch up to a shepherd or something, but I get so much value out of the bag I have that I never tend to - I have acquired several other backpacks but not the replacement like the Shepherd.
    I say all this lot that the Searchnis looks like the one that might make me switch. One of the things that I love about the Kingsville Delux is that you can hide a full-size water bottle, and it sits completely closed in the water bottle pocket. I love that and use it all the time. Is that the case for the Search? Does a water bottle go in the pocket and allow the pocket to zip up?
    This, so far, has been a deal-breaker for me and has prevented me from moving up. Your thoughts on this would be very useful. In all other ways, the Search is fab. I love the secret phone pocket that they carried over from the Shepherd - for going through security at airports - the wound be excellent. I will keep an eye out for this bag, but I appreciate your thoughts on the water bottle situation. Thanks for an outstanding video - there are so few people reviewing Tumi's current line bags on youtube - how else are collectors and enthusiasts going to find out not just what they have but how they look and feel? MUCH appreciated. Wishing you all the best!
