Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the amzwatch, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
Regret my thick wool cardigan from Ralph Lauren for over $300 while living in Texas lol 😂 And, the Pal Zileri Long sleeve polo with the nasty cooked pasta noodle collar for $200. The thin, formless/shapeless collar without buttons, and not tapered at the ends (meaning the threads will become frayed very easily) is a no for me.
Those sunglasses look fantastic on you if you're going for a cool sporty look. Smaller frames will look better if you're going for the refined gentleman's look. It's all about the looks you're going for when comes to sunglasses frames. We'll, to a limit that is.
To get the most out of a great camera like the fuji x100 series, the basic requirements are to know what you are doing, i.e traditional photography competency.
I share your pain on the small/narrow face - baseball caps always in junior sizes 😬 can you say where you got your glasses from? They suit you very well and I’m trying to find my first ever pair after my sight declined in lockdown 😔
Interesting to hear about your experience with the fujifilm x100S. As you started talking about a camera you regretted buying, but before you mentioned which one, I was thinking "should have bough the x100". I suppose it's the "photographers travel camera", never thought about whether it could be too much for most people to really use. Another camera I might have recommended is the "other street camera", the Ricoh GRXiii. But if those camera's dont work for you what you probably want is an iPhone 14 or Pixel 7 Pro.
@@hespokestyle Unexpected alternative to X100S lol It's like buying a Toyota GR86, not liking it, then Buying a Ferrari F8 I currently use a Fujifilm X-T4 cine rig for video, but hoping to get a Leica for photo once my budget allows for it
Your video was both informative and engaging. I appreciate how you tackled it such a unique way. I've explored a parallel theme on Illicium London. Keep it up!
Not a racer but have been dying to ride the bike again once this snow is gone. Have this black 1951 Raleigh Sport from my grandfather that I've been putting some time into. Goes well with a tweed sports jacket, lol.
I hear you on the plaid matching pants! I have a Simone Rocha red tartan set and I too cannot bring myself to wear it together. I look like some weird Scottish mascot. I will cut it up and insert some black and make a skirt, Westwood inspired.
Those sunglasses look great on you. One thing that I know, your taste/preferences change over time so hopefully you revisit these "worst" buys at another point in your life. You might be surprised at how you feel about them.
Agreed, those sunglasses look pretty nice on him. Especially when he puts back on the regular glasses. It's like whoa, he really just uncooled himself. To each his own.

Hm okay, I don‘t know how many fragrances you own, maybe too much to show in one video. Nevertheless I think it would be interesting if you show us your favourite fragrances (in no particular order) and tell uns why you have them / like them and what your connection to the scents are cuz often we connect fragrances to people, places or situations and so on. But thats just an idea :)
I would be curious about your fragrance collection too because even though it’s a personal choice I respect your opinion. I thought you were going to say Creed Adventus was the fragrance you over paid for lol.
Hey Brian loving your content from here in London UK. Any chance of a video on what alterations are possible on suits? As in can you have legs tapered, shoulders adjusted etc?
Great video! My biggest style regret is a pair of Stacy Adams oxfords, two months in they started squeaking when I would walk. Shorty after I purchased a few pair of Meermin oxfords and they have been great. Again, thank you for the video ✌🏽
Yes the X100 series are not essy to use although a dream to photographers 😂 We all bought tons of most of the time expensive stuff not made for us. Anyway thanks for a cool video
You should have bought a decant of the cologne. I would never blind buy any cologne over $200 without going onto one of the decant websites and getting a 5ml decant for around $15-$20 first. About the bike tires. My buddy raced cycles for a long time. You don’t have to buy rims and tires either. At least around the Boston area you can rent higher end rim and tire combos for a little as a weekend. Gives you a chance to try them out and it saves you a ton of money.
Man, I felt that in my soul about the narrow face and sunglasses hahah. I've bought 3 pairs of aviators, had to give them all away as they were too wide. You'd think I'd learn after 1 but I wanted them to work sooo badly 😂
x100s had terrible autofocus, kept focusing on the wrong things.. It's only good at manual focus. But don't be dissuaded. the new x100v fixed everything.
I'm surprised you went for zipps. The rims are fantastic but the hubs do leave a lot to be desired. I thin DT Swiss have the best overall package of wheel componentry
Thumbs up on having many people named "Rob" in your life. I approve. I was a skinny kid and in my 30s when I was on the way up in my career, I went to brooks brothers and bought 3 sack suits. My God, what was I thinking? They really are sacks and no amount of tailoring could make them look like anything else on a thin frame.
This was one of the coolest videos I've ever seen! I ended up here because I was looking into some mens fashion content but I am also very much into cycling. Long story short, I couldn't believe when all of a sudden this guy is talking about Zipp wheels! Whaaaat?! Also, I jumped the video a little bit so I was thinking that all those negative comments were about the 404s which could not possibly be true.. ofc then I went back and realised you were talking about some other wheel set. Awesome vid!
Great video idea, we've all done mistakes buying things that we don't use or have just turned out to disappointing, you might as well address it, learn from it and be smarter next time.
I bought a Blackmeans leather jacket, because I’m a huge leather jacket fanatic and also I love their take on classic punk style. However I never really considered how Japanese leather tends to fit. The armholes are way too high and tight for me! Alas I had to sell it at a loss. Learned my lesson though
@@hespokestyle it was a moto jacket. They definitely do as a rule, but Blackmeans in particular has a much higher armhole and more snug fit than the same chest size in say Schott or Addicts. I wouldn’t want to dissuade anyone from Blackmeans but might say not the brand if you have broad shoulders or bigger arms
Thanks for sharing your mistakes. My worst one was probably a Speedy Reduced. I knew the servicing costs were high, but bought the cheapest one I could find anyway. I was probably the coolest 18yo around. But once the chrono hand stopped running smoothly, the pushers stopped being clicky... I was quoted what I paid for the watch to have it serviced.
I hated BR540 (extrait) at first, but I kept wearing the same jacket a few days in a row and couldn’t figure out what that beautiful scent was. It ended up being br540 and that’s when I fell in love with it.
@@hespokestyle I have bought a pair of Made in Italy derby shoes from Boss which I never wore. I mean not even once. Black, sleek, gorgeous and luxurious but too much for me. I'm not yet into this style and probably won't be for another decade. I guess I couldn't resist. Size 46 if anyone interested hit me up.
Before I knew what I was doing, I bought a tweed jacket that fit me ok ... except the shoulders. That jacket felt really nice, and had a really cool color, but I had to part with it.
Fuji X100 line is really finicky, with a huge learning curve and a very unfriendly interface. It is a camera for a very specific type of photographer. But man, it does flies and dances when you’re that kind of photographer. I only use Fuji since my first x100. Hope you give it a second chance one day, the x100s is still a very good camera.
@@hespokestyle I also have a X100S the pictures are great once you get the settings tuned in but the menu isn't the best (but also farm from the worst I've used). I think my worst camera purchase was my Polaroid SLR680 SE. Soft milky photos that cost $2 per shot on a camera that cost $250. At least the price has been rising so I can sell it if I get tired of the space it takes in my collection.
Single malt& Bourbon. If I do not like after a few revisits the malt goes to family and the Bourbon gets mixed . Hard to tell what works for you on reviews alone for a number of things.
I dropped 20,000 pounds in cash on a Harley Davidson. 6 months later I love it to bits, but I regularly question whether I should've bought it. Then I go for a ride and I remember why I blew so much cash.
Redwing chukkas - they were sort of ok at first, but they became progressively more uncomfortable until it reached the point that they were totally unwearable. They've been sitting in the back of the cupboard for the last three years now.
Hi Brian! Another good video. 2 comments-1: I made the mistake on a camera too. A Nikon B700. I do not regret it because of the cost but the wasting of time doing research and it takes crappy pics. 2: Since the lockdown...it seems like places are limited to get dressed up (not working contributes to that). I.e., no concerts to attend in LV. I decided once/month to go the steakhouse and wear a suit and tie. I was hoping that you (and/or Gentleman's Gazette) would do a piece on dressing/suit wearing during pandemic. THANKS!!
Amazing down to earth video, nice recap of your road race experience, I lived thru it as you were story-telling. Thanks for showing how silly-looking you looked w those shades on
I really want to see those pants now lol. For me, I have some - but not too many (yet!) regrets. When I got my first nice paycheck after leaving the army, I spent around $500 on a Fossil watch. A year later I discovered it's retail price is $175 so I was kinda ripped off there. Not a huge blow given how much I made a month, but you just feel really dumb after this happens. After that every purchase was preceded by a thorough research work.
Fragrances are a total crapshoot if you don’t smell them first. That’s why I always put the money down to buy decants before even considering a full bottle.
I remember a salesman in Brooks Brothers on Regent St trying desperately to flog me a pair of aviators, even though we could both see they looked ridiculous. Went for the slightly more discreet caravans, still have them 8 or 9 years later.
I’ll add, if you make a purchase mistake to not be stubborn and keep it when there’s likely high residual value by selling it on. Reinvest into what you do want
Lol omg! I have been swindled into a purchase like this before too! I found a pair of ORVIS patchwork trousers in a bright or vibrant mix of madras plaid on sale and I jumped the shark... I have also rocked them without confidence and a bit of insecurity.... I also went a step further and purchased another patchwork trouser but, this time in a collage of indigo blue. I think I might have worn them a total of half a dozen times. Lol My waste of money purchase in cologne was in high school and it was CALVIN KLEIN OBSESSION. I love the scent on others but on me it just smelled rancid.
@@hespokestyle great choice of content and admission of ill steps. Fashion is fluid and because of our own personal experience we are likely to fail a time or 2. Again thank you for creating a successful and safe place to vent our own imperfections.
I saw shirts that looked amazing when they were lying around in a store but as soon as you put them on you realize if they fit you or not. Sometimes the colour or pattern does just not fit.
I agree on the wheels but the rest feels like almost clickbait hubris. Also it’s mental perception, the Carrera looks decent on you, maybe a longer hairstyle would suit those shapes better? I have also learned that with fancier pants, throw a neutral tee on it and downplay with loafers. I’ll also wear the print in cooler places (or months) so I could throw a black or neutral jacket on it. Also I wish all these style arbiters would talk about skincare. None of the men you talked about has amazing skin or hair. It’s not girly anymore to achieve a youthful mien but just not be overly obsessive.
May not be in the realm of luxury, however: 1. Joe Malone Peony&Blush Suede- got it for myself, my husband got interested, so I relinquished, only to get it back - he didn’t like the smell. 2. Birkenstocks - you gotta get the exact size, otherwise they just gonna hurt, make weird “farting” sound and be a nuisance (I donated mine, and never getting them again). 3. Designer purse - unless being a timeless classic (like Dior Lady or Chanel Flap, and even then) they tend to be out of trend pretty fast…
Will these problems occur if these bags are used daily? I just purchased a metis clutch in monogrammed canvas from the Kusama collection. I love the colorful polka dots and hope they don’t melt on me, haha. But I don't think it will be in my regular rotation. I also have a NoeNoe in the DA but only use it a few times a year in the spring and summer so I don't put much wear and tear on it. I hope I don't see wear and tear for a while. Plus, I'm saving up niceshopx . Have any of your colleagues experienced the same problem with this size? I don't mind the shape being a little more relaxed, but I also don't want it to turn into a puddle. Thanks for the video!
BR 540 is way to sweet and gave me terrible headaches the only two times I wore it. I didnt like it the first time but I gave it another chance. I can't stand it to be honest. Oud for Greatness too. 90% the same smell.

@ 3:20 - I guffawed! Literally. I did not see THAT coming. Fun and informative vid . . . again. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello there. Good stuff. Which eye glasses are you wearing?
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the amzwatch, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
Regret my thick wool cardigan from Ralph Lauren for over $300 while living in Texas lol 😂 And, the Pal Zileri Long sleeve polo with the nasty cooked pasta noodle collar for $200. The thin, formless/shapeless collar without buttons, and not tapered at the ends (meaning the threads will become frayed very easily) is a no for me.
Just found your channel. Have you don’t a video on men’s luggage? I’m looking into a weekend travel bag.
Those sunglasses look fantastic on you if you're going for a cool sporty look. Smaller frames will look better if you're going for the refined gentleman's look. It's all about the looks you're going for when comes to sunglasses frames. We'll, to a limit that is.
I wish I could pull off a pair of sunglasses the way he pulls those off...But I guess it comes down to how they make you feel wearing them...
To get the most out of a great camera like the fuji x100 series, the basic requirements are to know what you are doing, i.e traditional photography competency.
It's hilarious. Like buying a nice guitar then complaining about how you don't know how to play guitar.
You are so right!
I actually bought a Leica Q and find it much better and easier to use than the Fuji.
@@hespokestyle Oh nice upgrade! Yes Fujifilm, the poor mans Leica.
@@hespokestyle Unexpected alternative to X100S lol
It's like buying a Toyota GR86, not liking it, then Buying a Ferrari F8
I currently use a Fujifilm X-T4 cine rig for video, but hoping to get a Leica for photo once my budget allows for it
Your video was both informative and engaging.
Nice!
I hear you on the plaid matching pants! I have a Simone Rocha red tartan set and I too cannot bring myself to wear it together. I look like some weird Scottish mascot. I will cut it up and insert some black and make a skirt, Westwood inspired.
Thank you for your time and interview, I was on the fence about that baccarat. Not buying it.
Really like your videos! What did exactly mean "transparency" in that fragrance? Did you ever figure that one out?
Yeah, actually. It's hard to describe. Kind of light, like it just floats and wafts around. It's cool, just not for me.
Awesome to hear you talk about cycling and wheels. I love cycling. Love me some Zipp and Enve wheels.
Right on!
Maybe I've missed it but what camera are you using now for point and shoot or what is your next option? Thanks for the video Brian, great stuff!
Ah, I didn't actually say in the video... I use a Leica Q.
The Billy Reid peacoat was my most regrettable purchase. The lack of inner lining really made it uncomfortable to wear.
Like, hard to get on and off?
@@hespokestyle Just super scratch and itchy on the skin. I prefer lining in my coats and they didn't state that on the website. I like how it looks; but I'll be sending it back soon.
Hey Brian, I would love to see your whole fragrance collection due to the current hype of this topic. Best regards Maurice
Really? I feel like that would be a long and boring video. How you you like to see it presented?
He Spoke Style maybe you can show some outfits that match the fragrance.
Def. not another outfit video, the guy is exhausted, just talk about occasions and where and how u would wear the perfume.
Those sunglasses look dope on you. There's nothing wrong at all with that fit.
Hey Brian loving your content from here in London UK. Any chance of a video on what alterations are possible on suits? As in can you have legs tapered, shoulders adjusted etc?
Good idea!
Great video! My biggest style regret is a pair of Stacy Adams oxfords, two months in they started squeaking when I would walk. Shorty after I purchased a few pair of Meermin oxfords and they have been great. Again, thank you for the video ✌🏽
Thanks for sharing!
My face is (sadly) quite narrow too. And your glasses is impeccably well fitting. What brand and model?
Same. They're the Herbrand by Cubitts.
@@hespokestyle brilliant. I might just steal that stylistic element then!
Man, I felt that in my soul about the narrow face and sunglasses hahah. I've bought 3 pairs of aviators, had to give them all away as they were too wide. You'd think I'd learn after 1 but I wanted them to work sooo badly 😂
Maui Jim baby beach are small, and the Randolph Engineering Aviator in 52mm size work for me and I have a small head
Same problem here. Randolph 52mm are what I rock now
x100s had terrible autofocus, kept focusing on the wrong things.. It's only good at manual focus. But don't be dissuaded. the new x100v fixed everything.
I'm surprised you went for zipps. The rims are fantastic but the hubs do leave a lot to be desired. I thin DT Swiss have the best overall package of wheel componentry
I don't know... those Porsche Design sunglasses looked pretty good on you. A little oversized but that's part of the style.
Great vid, and the PD sunglasses look great (though I get how one's perception becomes reality and that's that)
Thumbs up on having many people named "Rob" in your life. I approve. I was a skinny kid and in my 30s when I was on the way up in my career, I went to brooks brothers and bought 3 sack suits. My God, what was I thinking? They really are sacks and no amount of tailoring could make them look like anything else on a thin frame.
Can't say the sack suit was false advertising!
Thanks!
Was it a motorcycle jacket? Those tend to have higher arm holes and a really sung fit--by design.
5:21 Gotta love seeing a photo of a camera taking a photo of a camera.
Thanks for sharing!
And yikes!
I hated BR540 (extrait) at first, but I kept wearing the same jacket a few days in a row and couldn’t figure out what that beautiful scent was. It ended up being br540 and that’s when I fell in love with it.
Interesting. Saying to give it another try?
It's the (extrait) version that is more on the masculine side
@@hespokestyle yes sir. Just once spay is all you need. Back of the neck.
I’ve made plenty and I’m sure I’ll make more, mistakes are part of the journey. Thanks for sharing.
Care to share any?
@@hespokestyle I have bought a pair of Made in Italy derby shoes from Boss which I never wore. I mean not even once. Black, sleek, gorgeous and luxurious but too much for me. I'm not yet into this style and probably won't be for another decade. I guess I couldn't resist. Size 46 if anyone interested hit me up.
hey brian, I really enjoy your extra content_
Really worth it
Thanks!!
BR540 is a pass for me. Too sweet off my skin for me. Glad your wife enjoys it!
Cheers.
Great video. May I ask you the model of the eyeglasses you wearing on this video? Looks fantastic on you.
Excellent video. My mistakes are usually with watches!
Any in particular?
Maurie Barnes. I agree i do the same, i keep telling myself i can pull off 40+ mm watches on my 6.5" wrist...
@@hespokestyle Blancpain. Lovely piece but worn too small and was very hard to sell to get something else.
The Fujifilm X100 is more of a photographer's camera that takes a long time to get used to -- it's not a point and shoot by any means
Before I knew what I was doing, I bought a tweed jacket that fit me ok ... except the shoulders. That jacket felt really nice, and had a really cool color, but I had to part with it.
Yeah, really hard surgery if the shoulders aren't right.
Thanks for chiming in, Luis. I've been really happy with the Leica Q. I was surprised just how easy it was to navigate. Much more intuitive for me.
Then I go for a ride and I remember why I blew so much cash.
yeah, the x100 cameras do need a bit of photography experience to actually use them
Redwing chukkas - they were sort of ok at first, but they became progressively more uncomfortable until it reached the point that they were totally unwearable. They've been sitting in the back of the cupboard for the last three years now.
I have to say the sun glasses gave you an instant upgrade- why did you say they are not for you? Bro they changed your whole vibe
Those shades look awesome on you. With the right outfit, straight up baller!
Too kind.
THANKS!!
Well, just see some of my recent videos!
@@hespokestyle I'll keep watching. THANKS for the reply!!
The Porsche design sunglasses would work if you were an extra in ‘boogie nights’ ...😆
LOL
I still love that graphic navy and white blazer! I wish I fit it. It's just one size too small for me or else I'd scoop it up from you.
As a fellow cycling lover too, sus carbon parts from never heard of brands are one thing I will never buy.
Lesson learned
Amazing down to earth video, nice recap of your road race experience, I lived thru it as you were story-telling. Thanks for showing how silly-looking you looked w those shades on
Of course!
Never could av imagine you in such photos😀😃,shows that with effort and learning ones style game can drastically change for the better
Absolutely
Another great video. I like that you have a sense of humour about your mistakes. Keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
Oooof! Yeah, always pays to research purchases like that though even then you can make a mistake.
Great video! I'd love to see a some spring inspo soon, that's the one season I can't figure out. Thank you!
Certainly. When it’s not 30 degrees!
Fragrances are a total crapshoot if you don’t smell them first. That’s why I always put the money down to buy decants before even considering a full bottle.
Hi Brian
Great Video !! I guess I’m not The Only Person that Regrets making some Purchases .
Love Your Channel
Definitely not!
I remember a salesman in Brooks Brothers on Regent St trying desperately to flog me a pair of aviators, even though we could both see they looked ridiculous. Went for the slightly more discreet caravans, still have them 8 or 9 years later.
Thanks for the offer for the plaid trousers . . . but if you don't like them, then I certainly won't!
I find that pants really have to be just the right pattern to look good
Hahaha.
I’ll add, if you make a purchase mistake to not be stubborn and keep it when there’s likely high residual value by selling it on. Reinvest into what you do want
Nice!
I've seen many youtubers put contents out on this sector. But you know what you're doing. Good going 👍🏻
I appreciate that!
Where did you get your glasses?
Recently broke mine lol and needing a new pair.
Cubitts.
Thanks for sharing, laughed like a mad man after seeing the sunglasses. Lol
Glad you enjoyed
Looking forward to this topic especially with Brian.
Hope you enjoyed it!
The shades actually look pretty fire.
Those sunglasses look great for driving.
Lol
My waste of money purchase in cologne was in high school and it was CALVIN KLEIN OBSESSION. I love the scent on others but on me it just smelled rancid.
Thanks for chiming in, EJ!
@@hespokestyle great choice of content and admission of ill steps. Fashion is fluid and because of our own personal experience we are likely to fail a time or 2.
Again thank you for creating a successful and safe place to vent our own imperfections.
As a former huge bicycle fan, I'd love to hear more of your experiences!
I wouldn’t want to sound like Al Bundy... but I do look back fondly on many moments of my racing career.
Yes please!
That cycling story sounds terrifying. Did you test the wheels before racing on them?
Yeah Brian’s too talented, cyclist-and Musician...
@@martintanz9098 Yeah, but a race situation is very different than anything you could try and simulate.
May not be in the realm of luxury, however:
Yeah agree with the sweetness.
I’m glad even a style icon like you even has buying regrets!! Lol
Of course I do!
