There are a lot of life lessons you can only learn as you age. It's true! I know that because I've been there. Looking back, there are a lot of things I wish I knew and mistakes I made in my 20s. Not the first time I've heard of Tiege Hanley and have for a while now. However, I did order the lvl 3 to try out as I by no means am afraid of doing skincare and do currently use one that's much more expensive but it works for my skin in keeping it dry, smelling great, and not oily as many others do. But I'm willing to actually try the TH product system out and see how that goes once and for all.

I am in my early sixties and if there was anything I really wish I knew forty years ago - is that life is overwhelmingly a game with your mind and it never relents. It boils down to keeping all the false myths about who you imagine you are in context as simply that. They are stories you do battle with. It is easy to settle for less than you are capable of if your internal narrative goes, I am not lucky, or great things don't happen to me, I am not good in math, or attractive, or worthy, etc, etc. I know so many people who charted the course of their life based on the false belief of all the things they could not do. We all have them to one extent or another. Life is a game with the trickster of your mind.

I think you’re one of the best advisors on style a young person can find. You teach classic, traditional style, without ever looking outdated. Too many classic style advisors out there will make a young person look like a grandfather. It’s an art (or calculated science maybe, haha) to learn to dress conservatively, yet modern. Inner peace is the single most important thing I wish I learned in my 20s.. ..Brings confidence and clarity and is a great foundation for a fulfilled and productive life ....
How did you learn inner peace?
I am 52 years old and successful in my profession working in a complex corporate environment. I manage a large and diverse team across different cities, and I tend to mentor young professionals who just reach out to me for career advice. Here is some advice that I typically give either professionally or would give on a personal level if asked:
1. Hustle takes no skill. Regardless of your education, your family background, or how you look - your hustle, your commitment to getting ahead, learning, being the best you can be will help determine how successful you want to be. Hustle doesn't take skill. It is a mindset.
2. Balance. Try and give yourself balance as you get older. Recognize that it's not all about work. it's also not all about play if you want to get ahead. Hobbies are good. Reaching your goals both professionally and personally are good. Balance.
3. Clothing/wardrobe - Build a foundation. Brian has some excellent videos on building a foundational wardrobe where pieces can mix and match. Some advice for younger men starting out - over time, say goodbye to Zara and H + M...buy quality. There are excellent consignment stores that sell lightly-worn designer clothes for the price of clothing you may buy at a 'fast fashion' store if budget is an issue. Some of my best suits - Dolce and Gabbana, Armani Collezioni, Etro, etc. were from consignment stores once I threw out the polyester cheap suits. All I did after was have the suits laundered and tailored. Speaking of which:
find a good tailor who can do small alterations to your clothing to turn a designer suit into a bespoke-looking suit.
Few other tips: nothing cheapens nice clothing with a plastic digital watch or bad looking eyeglass frames. Accessories like a decent steel watch and eyeglass frames that suit your face shape and your outfit are important.
4. Grooming - Nothing dillutes a nice-looking outfit with poor grooming and hygiene. Wash your face twice a day with a quality face cleanser (not a bar of soap). Moisturize and wear something with an SPF during the day, and a moisturizer (no spf) at night to nourish your skin. Shower daily, and use a non-fragranced body cleanser (I like Aveeno) that moisturizes your skin, use a quality deodorant (I like Mitchum - non scented) and keep your nails trim and get a haircut every 4-5 weeks. Finally - wear a quality fragrance. If you only want to wear one fragrance that you can wear all-year round (cold/warm weather) I would suggest you wear something like Chanel Bleu de Chanel or Creed Aventus (more expensive niche fragrance). If you are on a budget, something like Versace Pour Homme is inexpensive and will keep you smelling nice all day/year long. 3 sprays in the morning. Maybe freshen up later in the day with another 3 sprays. Don't over do it.
5. Nutrition and exercise - Watch the simple and empty carbs. When you go to a grocery store shop on the outside, where produce (fruits and vegetables) are on the left, meat/fish, etc. are on the right, and everything in the middle (stuff in boxes with processed foods) has to be purchased with a bit more care. As you age, your metabolism will slow down. You have to adjust what you eat. Working out and thinking it will solve everything doesn't work. Speaking of which:
Exercise - cardio before heavy weights. Get a piece or cardio equipment at your place or go to the gym (COVID permitting) and work out every day if you can for 20-30 minutes, raising your heart rate and pushing yourself.
Just a few thoughts from me...many of which Brian has spoken about.

1. Friends: No matter how busy you are in life, it's always important to put aside time for friendships. In my experience, some of the people I have clicked with the most are different than me - their views on life, on what makes them happy are different than mine...and I sincerely find that refreshing. It's always easy to want to hang out with people who are just like you....don't be afraid to build friendships with different hobbies or different life experiences. It will help broaden your perspective on life. Another thing I have learned about friendships is simply to be a good listener and to be supportive when you are needed. Friendships are a two-way street and sharing some laughs and some tears can go hand in hand.
2. Lovers: for lovers, in my own experience as a male who has been in a committed relationship for many years, it's first and foremost - being comfortable in who you are as an individual, and while life isn't always perfect, it's important to be comfortable with who you are and where you want to go in life to find someone who is compatible with you. Everyone is different, and finding the right person to be in a relationship with isn't always easy. Just like friendships, relationships that I feel work well are ones that have balance to them and passion. Balance means listening as well as speaking. In my experience, it means being supportive and caring. I have also found that everyone needs their 'space' - togetherness is great, but alone time is healthy too.

You didn’t mention anything about sunscreen. I think in your 20’s slapping on sufficient sunscreen, daily, is probably the single most effective method to preserving youthful skin.

Yes! Trying to get my 20 y.o son to slap on sunscreen has been a failure so far, despite living in a hot place where we can get burnt in winter on a sunny day. But one thing I've learned is that young adults have to do it their way, and repeat all the mistakes us oldies made LOL. Just human nature, I do remember I was the same at his age, was so sure it would be different for me.......(it wasn't of course 😉)
I’m 21 and it’s been about six months sense I realized I should be buying clothes for outfits not as one time pieces. And thank god for it 😂

I've been watching all of your videos since October 2019; since I was 17, and you've helped me graduate from the casual style of certain RUclips influencers to true classic menswear's which reasonates with me more than anything else. I wanted to share that I really enjoyed hearing a bit about your own life and background. I never imagined you as a musician, nor as having done a term of service right out of high school. In just sixty seconds, my entire sense of you shifted, obviously in a good way. I may not be in your target demographic (too old), but I do enjoy spending 10 or 15 minutes with your videos over coffee in the morning. Please continue to share who you are - style is good, but style backed by substance is special.

I definitely relate to the idea of not knowing how to properly build a wardrobe when you're young. I'd always just buy individual pieces, without really thinking about how they would fit with the clothing I already owned. And to be honest, this is something I occasionally still struggle with. But planning ahead, and thinking about how to create outfits that are actually cohesive, rather than assuming they'll fit, has helped.

When I lived in Melbourne and worked for Thomas pink (which got me into menswear/fashion) I think my favorite thing to do was to sit with my girl on a bench at lunch and just do nothing. That thirty minute pause every day was the best thirty minutes of my day. On another note, at 28 I use more advanced skincare now so I look 22 but tiege is great as a simple way to get into skincare that's fast and easy for most guys, def recommend it. Also, I watch because of the format, your style, and just you as a person. You convinced me to get a denim jacket actually but mine is a burgundy color so a bit younger style still haha!
As soon as I heard "skin care routine" I was like: we are ten seconds away from a Tiege Hanley plug. (Because I watch a lot of Mr. Wonderful) XD Can't wait to get mine!

Being quite a bit older than you I can concur with your advice. The taking risks(calculated ones) is particularly important because many people in your life will try to dissuade you from following your dreams, even well intention-ed people! Some people actually don't want you to succeed because they need company! Remember that most people are too busy waiting for a guarantee in life before acting on something that potentially will pay off big time, nothing ventured nothing gained!
I'm 24, and I've been watching videos from this channel for the last few months.
I think the reason so many younger guys follow you, is because we're at a transitional time, such as finishing university, and at the early stages of our careers.
We want to upgrade our wardrobes (which I've been doing recently), and sharpen our appearance up, to make the best impressions on those we meet in our budding professional lives.
I've already taken a lot of tips from this channel, and others like Real Men Real Style, and applied them to work outfits (mostly business casual).

Hey I'm finding your channel refreshing. I feel like it can be easy to accidentally look older when it comes to classic menswear if the cut isn't right. One tip on the crows feet is to use a roller after moisturiser. It can increase collagen and elastin. Also taking a high antioxidant diet (high vegetable and berries diet) and supplementing with antioxidants such as green tea, resveritol, vitamin c.
I wish I saved more money when I was in my 20s during the 90s and 00s.

You are correct Brian. Here I am in my late 20s.
I'm 22 and honestly i think the reason behind the age of your audience has a lot to do with our generations love and enjoyment of the past, it seems to be becoming more popular in guys my age because there was kind of a gap in this kind of style in our parents generation and its a new and fresh look in our eyes, and because of this gap we have never really learned these style concepts and you break things down and articulate things that a lot of people that are trying to do this don't do as well

One style advice that I wish I thought about deeper is that "one looks best in white t-shirt and jeans." Not to be taken literally, but it does cover the fundamentals of style: invest in classic pieces, don't over-complicate things, recognize good quality, and most of all focus on what's underneath (i.e. yourself). You don't have to have the super model body, but at the very least understand your body and work with it.
By the way, younger Brian seriously gives off the serious jazz musician vibes 😁. - Han

Even if you know that things might not combine well with each other i think it is hard to find a store where you have enough good pieces that you like so you can combine them in one go as you want.

I did my bedding yesterday and I kid you not, put brown bed sheets with orange duvet covers haha (I don't care what it looks like and not enough people come over)
I always have something to wear because I don't care what I look like - as long as it's clean and isn't as bad as my bedding then I'm fine with it

I’ve been using some of the Aesop products you recommended in a couple videos a few years ago and love them, however there is no doubt they are on the pricey side. Would you say Tiege Hanley is comparable in terms of quality if we’re looking for something less costly?
Most definitely. I love Aesop as well but you get an entire month's supply of TH for less than one Aesop product.

Taking care of my skin - Probably my biggest sin.
Learning to Relax - yeah, this one also hit home. Mainly because of my athletic background, I seem to only know "active".
Become Focused, but see the bigger picture - my constant quest of "self-improvement" and "finding my purpose"
Take calculated risks - nothing to say on this.

I'm in my 30s and I'm also (not surprisingly) in the middle of the journey of changing the way I look... I think that everyone has their own time to know what they want/need and the time to incorporate it and do something about it. You channel has a unique way to give people a tremendous variaety of clues to achieve that... and that's a very notable thing. These kind of videos are my favourites. Keep the great work... we'll be seating here waiting for it.

Question, when a suit has functioning buttonholes but the sleeve is too long what can be done to keep the functioning buttonholes if I need to shorten the sleeve?
Not much, unfortunately. You can only shorten so much without it looking bad.
Depends on how much you need to shorten the sleeves but a skilled tailor should be able shorten them from the shoulders
Andreas is correct. I've had sleeves shortened from the shoulders on a jacket and you would never know.
