  • I've never been a big fan of complicated productivity systems and convoluted calendar schedules. While it may work for some, it felt like extra work and noise to me. Instead, why not keep it simple?
    In this video, I'll reveal the 4 strategies I use to keep myself accountable, adaptable and flexible. It got me to Harvard, Yale, medical residency and beyond and I think it will work for you too.

    Guys please take his word and take action on implementing this advice. After 6 years of achieving subpar results, I took some time to let go of everything I knew and build a system based only on fundamentals truths.       I absolutely advocate this advice as well. Been trying to incorporate notion and all but these are all secondary tips built upon simple tips. Simplicity has always worked for me as a distinguished student and now an army servicemen. The key is to keep the system as adaptable and simple because they take the least effort to organise your life. The inverted pyramid priority system, focus without distractions, high intensity workouts have been the 20% that produced 80% of my achievements thus far

      Sometimes I find that I've been truth-hopping throughout my life and have conceded that nothing is certain, and ultimately the chaos is our adaption to life itself. It seems like the universe is a reaction engine to events that occur in your life and learning is essentially a trigger as a change agent. We delicately balance ourselves within the confines of observation and creation through a mechanism of energy itself; which in turn is the feedback loop of the universe. I think therefore, ones maintenance and dedication to health is the most fundamental and self evident truth that supersedes and pre-empts all other truths that gives rise to balance, harmony and unity.

    Awesome content. I suggest you not to decide what to do when you want to start your work. Decide it the night before, when you go to bed, and write it down . This way you don't even distract yourself to decide what to do. You just follow the list on which it's pretty clear what is the most important thing and what must be done after that.

      See, I can't do it the night before because it'll cause me to procrastinate on going to bed. Ends up happening every time and it's always better to ensure I get a good sleep.
      So I have plan/decide at an earlier time (4-5pm) or in the morning.

    As someone with unmedicated ADHD, I have tried probably 100 different productivity methods, or at least I've tried to understand that many. This is the FIRST METHOD that I have not only been able to understand, but that I feel able to actually implement in my life. You are so correct that other methods are just so overwhelming, I can't even get to the point of even TRYING them to see if they work or not. I watched this video probably 5 or 6 times or more while I took my own notes, until I felt like I understood it enough to explain to someone else. I am especially grateful for you explaining the Pareto Principle and the danger of "busy work" that feels productive but really isn't. That is one of my BIGGEST issues. Also I love taking breaks that turn into doom-scrolling.
    Now I am ready for my classes/work to begin on Monday. (: THANK YOU SO MUCH! My ultimate goal is CRNA school after I finish my RN and work in the ICU, and now I actually feel like I can really do it, and it's not just a crazy idea lol.

      Why did you choose to not medicate? I have ADHD too and the medication is a great support tool. It's not a magic pill that fixes everything, but it makes stuff a lot easier.

      I can tell you what has worked for me, after such many years: It will be hard and uncomfortable, this won't change, the start is the hardest thing, after starting, going on is easy, just don't get distracted after you've started work; Make it as simple as possible: Write down the most important task to do, only focus on this, forget everything else, when you are done, write down the next most important task, do the same until work is done, ADHD makes you procrastinate because of fear, this takes the fear away, the biggest opponent is the start each day, but it will get easier each day, because your brain will get used to do it

      ADHD start easy to build up success (even tiny)= Dopamin. Then you become able to continue wich ever way you want.

      No offense to the creator but I read countless of self help books and I noticed that it’s all the same they all just come up with different names for their methods to excuse selling a book and regurgitating the same thing year after year decade after decade. This guys is no different and I don’t blame him for trying a side hustle to make some money on his off time.

    you are right. all of the productivity systems online are so overwhelming. even if i understand them while watching the videos, implementing them feels impossible because i get so overwhelmed. This one is really simple. i think i can do it because it doesn't really tell me to build a complex system which seems like a tough task itself, rather it's like a guide with 2 or 3 simple steps where my focus is on the study itself and not on the "system". THANK YOU.

    Love the inverted pyramid my friend! I've been using that for quite some time and found it to be massive effect in allowing myself space to get the most important thing done first. I always use the question "If I was only allowed to focus on ONE thing today.... what would that be?" That becomes my first task! Something I would add... figure out ALL of your 3 - 2 -1's the night before... get organised so you can rest easy knowing that the next day is scheduled and ready to go.... no thinking about what to do first, second or third! Also put it in your diary... make appointments with yourself to complete everything in your pyramid ( just as you would making a doctors appointment! ) it's that important that we need to schedule it as "important work!" I've only just found you.... I love your work... You've earnt a new sub for sure. Thank you my friend!

    The way I work is very similar to you; the way I choose “important” tasks is to go with whatever is most limiting. If you learn systems theory, it is the elimination of limits that creates growth, and that is what I’m always intending to achieve: identify and eliminate the limits to growth.

      Ask yourself, “What is most limiting?” That is what you should be working on, whether that be getting up in the morning, preparing food, exercising, etc.

    I really like this. The neurosurgeon I scribe for also went to Harvard and you guys function exactly the same way. He prefers doing the hard stuff first before anything. He differentiates between the BS, it's so minimal and makes complete sense.

      Doing the task that you least want to do is something I learned at school and it's obvious when you look back on it.
      Once you've climbed the mountain by doing the toughest first, it's all downhill to easy street from then on.
      It's even better, because when the inevitable stutter comes halfway through the monster first trial, you realise that you've broken the back of it and it's only going to get easier, better and more fun every minute henceforth.

    I’ve just bought a bullet journal, I don’t regret it, I love stationary- but I am so glad I came across this video. I came into RUclips for inspiration for the best way to set up my bullet journal for me but your video popped up before I even typed in the search bar
    - serendipity. Ihad thought that all these videos on journaling deep seem a bit labour intensive & regimented potentially (well almost certainly) resulting in them not being used. I will still try and use the bullet journal to note things down but I will start off by using this pyramid method - thank you.

    I am a retired older person. Using your method I could successfully do 1 hour for most important, 1/2 hour for 2nd important and 15 minutes for least important. That would work for me... thank you for this great idea.❤

    This is it! Pure genius: You boiled down centuries of intellectual work experience down to these simple rules. I see one discussion point: why high-intensity pauses? What about getting fresh air, stepping outside of your home to get your joints and muscles slowly working? Why not recommending to go out, even for ten minutes, to take a walk without getting your heart pumping like wild?

    Especially the simple thing of taking a step back and reflecting over the best way of doing something instead of just getting caught in the doing without thinking. This kind of meta analysis of yourself is very helpful.
    One comment about the Pareto principle though. It is true that it says that most of your results comes from a small percentage of your efforts. But it is seldom easy to know what will lead to good results beforehand, it is more of a principle when you look back and analyze your efforts.
    But the main idea to analyze what you could have done better is still good, of course. To think about which 20% of your efforts was the most productive and why is still very valuable.

    Pretty similar to the inverted triangle, I have two primary work focus slots in the day, morning and afternoon, and the fact that I know I have the afternoon one to worry about tomorrow and lower priorities later really allows me to not stress about the big picture when focusing on the days main priority in the morning. It’s very freeing. For whomever may enjoy the same :)

    I find this video of high quality and informative content. Although I think differently about the last part. Focus without distractions is totally right BUT I feel like i get really focus after a Cold shower, and Binaural Beats. The beats were recommended based on the idea that brain needs a tempo/ frequency in which it operates. The binaural beats allows the brain to bring awareness, attention and energy.

    This is an awesome video! I was captivated the entire time and it's really refreshing to see more minimalistic productivity videos like this one on RUclips that are also well-explained in such detail.
    I just have one question: being someone who's very prone to overthinking and analysis paralysis, I'm not sure how well the second strategy would work for me, as I would likely (as I often do) spend two hours obsessing over which task provides maximal gains and doing a lot of useless mental calculus that tires me out before I can even start doing anything. I would really appreciate your thoughts on this!

      Thank you! Happy to hear you got value from the video! Analysis paralysis is real so I feel you on that. See if you can catch yourself in those moments and take a step back - remember that “overthinking” is still a task you’ve now chosen for those two hours. If you could pause life like a video game, there would be no opportunity cost but alas, time marches forward stubbornly. As you’ve realized, spending two hours just “thinking about what to do next” is definitely not the highest yield use of your time. So even if you chose an activity that was was truly suboptimal, real action is still better than doing “nothing” for two hours. Hope that helps!
