Every old rental house I've lived in in my midwestern town has made me seriously ill, gasping for breath every night, aching limbs, chronic congestion. Having spent the better part of 10 years sick, I am weak and tired. Intermittently homeless, scared of leases, tired of sleeping with the windows open, too broke for nicer places (that could still make me sick). It's a dark cycle. This is a hidden evil lurking on city streets. Never thought I'd grow up to be at war with housing and indoor air quality

My 13 yr old had borrelia, which left her wide open for PANS (while living in toxic mold). She has every mental health illness you can think of (including constant suicidal ideation), her nervous system is shot and now has many autistic traits, has POTS (dizzy spells and extreme fatigue, severe sensory issues. It’s nothing to play with. Every home inspection should include a mold inspection/air test. This has been devastating.

I found an attorney but they told me it’s very expensive to fight such a case. I’d have to put down thousands just to get started. Mind blowing. The rental company is trying to not fix the house. I have all the pictures and as soon as someone else moves in I’m going to visit them and inform them of what they are living in.
If you have intensive medical records indicating it’s affected your health and a mold air test that helps. If you’re really sick and have proof a personal injury attorney might be able to help.

@@Adentalgrlno personal injury has taken my case. I've called at least 15😮 I have all the documentation I need for a winable case. I'm not paying anymore rent, let them evict me, and I'll present my case on their dime! Who has money to pay for lawyer, moving expenses, still pay rent, and your personal property loss due to mold contamination? You can't take the stuff to an uncontaminated environment, you're just taking the toxicity with you! Doctors are uninformed also. I fired mine and wrote the medical board on her insufficient knowledge and help regarding my health. It's sad...babies (siblings) have died because of this😢
My health has been altered drastically in the 18 months living in this unit.

That’s awful! I hate to hear that. Look up the mold laws in your state. You might be able to file a form to withhold rent. You can in FL.
They ripped out 2 walls while we were in the house and we moved out a week later. We all were all sick. I had to initiate it all. They were just fine with us staying in that house. They were going to rip out the kitchen…while we were living there! Luckily we found a cheaper place but this has been insane and expensive!
The money in these cases comes when you pay to fix it yourself then sue them. That’s how attorneys want to deal with it. The house I was in was going to cost 200k to fix. If I had that much laying around I wouldn’t be renting. 🙄 someone who owns one of these remediation businesses told me step by step how I’d have to handle it -they’ve been a part of multiple cases. The rental companies know they are basically untouchable and that if you’re renting you likely don’t have the means to go after them in any meaningful way. It’s disgusting.
Mold is such a nightmare! No one takes it seriously which is just crazy to me. I hope you can get into a safe/healthy home asap!!

I was living in a place that had mold and it almost cost me my life. It depleted my health so much. I felt like I had fibromyalgia and i severely lost weight. My immune system was compromised to the point I had a bacterial infection that gave me pneumonia. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital. They drained puss out my lungs first by slicing through my back in between my ribs. Then stuck a drain tube in my back through my ribs, hurt like hell, no anesthesia. Then a 4 hour surgery to suck the puss from around my lungs and peel the dried up puss that formed around my lungs.
I told the doctors about the mold condition and the illness i dealt with for two months prior to the pneumonia but it seemed like they just brushed it off.
I had no idea the place I was in was so bad. It wasn't until my son inspected the place I was staying and couldn't understand how i lasted so long in there.
Maybe some of us, our body reacts differently than others to rid ourselves of mold. Idk, but I did notice I was given some antibiotic fungal medicine by mouth during the last few days in the hospital.
Stay safe and GOD bless everyone.

I got it from my front loading washing machine door gasket.
I believe they stopped using the same material, too many humans got sick from mold building up.
Then, brand new washing machine started leaking water from the hook up.
A towel was used to mop up the "clear clean water" then was left under it. Pulled it out and covered with black spongy mold.
You have to be VERY CAREFUL cleaning mold because it breaks open and becomes invisible to the eye as a Mycotoxin.
      Never use Bleach!
      It releases mycotoxins too.
      There are professionals out there.
Just search Mold Inspection if you don't have a doctor.
There's more & more help now, hard to find, I wouldn't have known what to do if my Lyme Disease physicians weren't there.

We believe our college age son exhibited mold toxicity after his college town/ dorm experienced a catastrophic flood the year prior. He came home at the end of Fall semester with a chronic bronchial/asthmatic cough that did not go away until he was living at home for 2 weeks. The cough was so chronic it also caused him constant back pain.

Very important topic. It gave me skin rashes, respiratory issues and anxiety attacks. The medical community is useless when it comes to mold. Best help comes from alternative health or do your on research. I used combination of essential oils (or you can buy "essential oil thieves") to help "control" mold that was circulating thru my air vents and for around certain areas. Or spray hydrogen peroxide at least 6% (normal drug or supermarket store bought is 3%) directly on the mold, but be very careful not to inhale or get the 6% h.p. on your skin. Also, I bought several air cleaners with reusable filter that you periodically vacuum to clean, instead of having to buy expensive new filters all the time. It can be a nightmare to fix when circulation from your air vents, if you have carpet and it spread all over your furniture/clothing/ pet food and their water bowl (try to keep away from direct air flow). People. Run the ozone for a few hours. Wait then come open the windows. Some mold remediation companies seal a house and send everyone to a hotel for 2-3 days. They ozonate 24/7s then come back.
So if you’re in a home all living creatures need to be away, then ozone to your hearts desire. If you’re in an apartment use a much much smaller machine and no longer than 15-30 mins. Could be. You need to get yourself away from your house for a while. And only eat foods that you know don't have mold in them. Chicken and Brocolli steamed was my daily meal. I only drank water that was filtered. Once you go back to feeling normal. You'll know whats making you sick the moment you come into contact with it. Mold likes to hang out where there is moisture. Look for anything made of wood. Clean up dust with a microfiber towel. I used a painters carbon filter dust mask while cleaning up, was def worth it. If you got carpet, tear it out, try to get your place as easy to clean and dust free as possible. Hope your journey to wellness is fruitful.
