A friend of mine stayed in a hospital on Maui the end of last year. I noticed black mold growing on and around the air conditioning vents and ceiling above the vents. This was in two separate rooms. I told the nurse that there was black mold growing and she had the janitor come and clean the outside of the vent. My friend developed a chest rattle toward the end of his stay at the hospital which cleared up in 24 hours after being discharged.
I went to a job interview one time as a referral for someone who said the employer can't get anyone to stay and they all quit - they are irresponsible. The office was in a basement of an old warehouse & the first thing I noticed was odd, intense pungent smell and the carpet was curled. Sure enough I got a tickle in my throat that worsened and cut the interview short. I ran out of there and was fine after that. Explains why no one wanted to work there!
I got sick constantly, had a sore throat, coughing. Feeling sick every other week and lasted 2-3 weeks each time.. Lost my job and moved away to an apartment built in 2018 and all my problems disappeared. Lost a great job because of mold and it makes me furious and scared:(

I wish more medical doctors would become educated. We had a bad leak and while waiting for insurance to approve someone to come out. I got supper sick. My neighbor did a test that showed high levels of mold. Insurance didn't even bother, the people who came out just punched holes in the walls and exposed us for weeks before they finished the job. When I went to my doctor and told her about the mold and how horrible I felt. She laughed and said mold can't make you sick. Then she told me I should see a therapist, and that I was just traumatized by the renovation of the house. Insurance is ANOTHER story, the bare minimum and the cheapest least qualified is who they hire. It's BS.
I can relate. We had a sewage backup in our home in January and insurance denied our claim. Sewage backup is called category 3 water, black water. It's contaminated. Both bathrooms backed up, sewer water got underneath our laminate floors. We had a restoration company out the same day and they put in an industrial dehumidifier and air scrubber in our home and they ran constantly for over 2 months before being removed. We have been unable to do any remediation work because our insurance claim is in litigation, they decided they would rather fight it in court rather than just pay out the legitimate claim. A couple months ago i noticed some black substance on something that was sitting under our vanity that has no cabinet underneath the sink since it's for ADA accessibility. Our attorney ordered a mold test and sure enough we have 6 different strains of mold in the house and also airborne mold. My allergies have been much worse this year and now i suspect it's because of the mold. Just hoping the insurance will get this resolved soon so we can get the remediation done.
thank you for this presentation. I do water damage restoration in an arid climate. Mold is more of a problem than it might seem. What a person can look for, without a full-blown mold inspection, (air sampling, etc.) is signs of 'chronic moisture' - a small leak, a cold area where humidity will condense, or layers of substrates (especially vapor barriers, like vinyl wallpaper, multiple layers of flooring, wall tile). 'Sheetrock sandwich', i.e. sheetrock between, say, plaster and paneling, or a visqueen vapor barrier and wall tile or multiple layers of paint. Look for water marks around wall penetrations like windows, doors, and especially skylights. A musty smell is mold, but is different from the smell of water. If a space always smells wet, it probably won't be too long before it smells musty. In short, use your eyes and nose and if in doubt, or you want more assurance, call a pro.
I left a opened up yogurt carton on my table for 2 hours on a hot humid day of summer...after I looked in again, I was absolutely HORRIFIED to see a black mold crowing inside it!!! I mean, I checked it before I did set it to my counter and it was clear of mold. Then forget to go and throw it out to the bin. But this was the quickest air-sampling results ever! I knew that something is wrong badly in here, but I can not figure out were is the source.
I knew I had mold in the house due to musty smell and the brick interior had black gray and white mold the hvac has been contaminated because the filters never been changed in 4 yrs mold spores and dust mites the exterminator also said the house had excess moisture before I moved in and the problem got worse
I answer calls for apartment work orders and few take it seriously. Most insist on calling it "biological growth" and many just tell residents it's normal and stop complaining.
I lived in a house full of black mold, for years. When I asked my doctor if it was dangerous he said it was fine and not to worry about it. I finally took my kids and left. It took me a year to feel normal, again. My kids didn't know any different so I don't really know how long it took for them, or if they are still having complications from living in that house for years. :(

I would think the other problem with waiting for something to dry out after a hurricane is that hurricanes tend to happen in humid areas, which means it might not dry out at all.
That's why annual pressure washing the exterior of a coastal home is necessary as well as... A deep cleaning and inspection of the interior.❤ Need more coffee today😂
Btw. I never understood why people pay millions for a home yet won't pay to keep the homes free of mold. Only a specialist can access these problems. I no longer am able to work. God knows I wish I could be of more service to others. Unfortunately... I can no longer be around mold and germs. My immune system no longer allows me to do the things I used to do. I miss being able to help the elderly and those under going cancer treatments. I'm very knowledgeable when it comes to knowing what chemicals can be used in a clients home based on their health. The first time I learned about the health complications of mold was watching Forensic Files (season 7 episode 19, “Breaking the mold”). The husband had so many issues he started forgetting simple things such as the place he parked his car while at the store. He had physical and neurological complications; devastating issues for their family. In the 90’s the family had issues dealing with their home insurance. Their home became inhabitable. Many of us have been involved with mold and mycotoxins now for a number of years. I was exposed to mold in the workplace in 2008-2012. The roof of the old factory was leaking and mold was everywhere. I had extreme difficulty with my sinuses. I had to sleep in a semi-upright position in bed to get to sleep. Often I was unable to sleep. I discovered black mold in my apartment. Within 3 days of moving I was healthy again. When I told my doctor about my symptoms he immediately said, "black mold".
You were lucky that doctor knew what it was. I've been to several doctors and they're mold info illiterate! One doctor told me "surely mold couldn't be causing these issues" 😢😮 It's a sad situation
@@cynthiacynthia5952 I've had allergies/anxiety that started when I was 17. 3+ decades ago. Since then I've seen Omg a 100 different allergists, internists, psych's, on & on. This was in 3 different cities. Chicago, Dallas and now LA...Not 1 still to this day has EVER mentioned anything about possible mold issues in your home environment. As I think back to every place I lived in, they were all dusty and smelled of mildew/mold in places. I've been taking anxiety/depression medicine for over 30 years. I wonder if mold has been my problem my entire life. Which btw whatever it is, has changed everything about my life. I'm an engineer and learned decades ago these US doctors are horrible. I would be fired at every job if I was incompetent as they are. We live in our houses/offices 80%+. Why on Earth would they not question and research these indoor VOC's?
@@CooqehsProbably from the sinus issues. I know someone who had severe sinus for two winters. A leak from a water valve grew mold behind walls and under the square vinyl laminate. It explained everything. There are alot of good mold videos to remove it, humidity, condensation, to detox your health from it.
So for four years my friend and I stayed at the same hotel in Puerto Vallarta, MX for 10 day trips. Year 3 my friend came home with what her doctor diagnosed as pneumonia. Year 4 again pneumonia. I told her to get her doctor to check her for Legionnaires' disease. Reluctantly her Dr did and yep Legionnaires disease. Needless to say we stopped going to the hotel in PV. I remember seeing black mood around the air conditioner in our rooms. I contacted the hotel to let them know they had a problem and if it was addressed. No reply. Since then we have heard of other cases of the disease from people staying at the same hotel. This was a Westjet vacation hotel.
I was literally thinking the same thing when I read this. I stayed in a hotel close to the beach in Mexico and it smelled wet and musty and I always felt heavy and sick. I decided to try a brand new airbnb in the same location and slept like a baby.
The construction process today is "hurry up" because time is money. You can see many homes are rained on during the build and not allowed to dry before the walls are closed. I think this practice has also contributed to mold. I can't tell you how many construction sites in my area that I've seen do this during this past winter and now spring. A relative has also worked in these situations over many years.
I do believe. Mould is in many New homes. You never see a home being built with tarps, covering the progress, during bad weather. It's NOT good. It creates many problems. Like he "said." Oh, oh. I have read many times. Never cut the mold off of food. The roots are there and we don't see them.
Homes are designed to vent. Are they? There’s a big push for energy efficiency and sealing everything. How much does that affect indoor air? No one talks about that.
@@Emma-dl5ez Black mould is a completely different beast to mould on food. A bit of mould that forms on say butter can be cut off without causing issues unless you are extremely ill.
Thank You. Overtime, I've had several "run in's" I'm blown away at how people glaze over, or act like deer caught in a headlight when trying to suggest that mould may be the underlying cause. THANK YOU FOR THIS! I've seen people go through terrible problems because of mold, and it took years for some to ever even consider it a possible cause for their illnesses. Now i have friends living in Florida, and someone dear to me just bought a home there that is a real fixer-upper. I'm really concerned about the mold, as it doesn't take a flood to make a house in coastal FL moldy. I'll be sharing this with him, and praying he learns everything i just did. I never got to the bottom of how I went blind in one eye about 2 years after moving into a completely damp apartment that was a renovated garage with a leak in the roof that seeped into one wall that I was sleeping against. All of this was discovered about 4 years later. The first thing I got when I moved in was the shingles, then I hurt my neck very badly and all of this occurred in the winter. The place had no heat for about 4 years after a tenant before me left it go in to rack and ruin. I reconnected the heat once I moved in but I did not know how long it was left cold until I was in it more than a year. It was by accident one day I was out at the gas meter box and I noticed a warning sign printed to it and I could not believe it😢 and all this time I was fighting with the landlord and trying to find out what was wrong with the building and I was so ill asking to be moved but no one would listen to me. Because I was so ill with the shingles I could not deal with the black mould that I discovered bit by bit as I started to move the furniture around.... it was all over the shower most importantly and it was all over the sink and I do remember washing my face and splashing the water up on my eyes with thick black mould that I was too ill to clean. As much as possible I tried not to use the sink for the first week until I could get over the shingles and clean it .....I was literally that ill ....I was never as ill in my life. A random taxi driver in Ireland that drove me home from the hospital after I injured my neck took pity on me and came in and did the bathroom for me ....he regrouted all the black mould edges everywhere and at this stage I was on full disability after having arrived in the apartment healthy with a job lined up which I became unable to do after the neck nerve injury. I did pay the taxi driver a very nominal fee which was probably half what the job would have cost and I believe I gave him €120 but he did not even want to take it but I had it saved. The landlord half cleaned the bathroom with a set of cleaners he sent down who could not deal with black mould and they did their best but they said it needed to be professionally fixed at which stage the lady in the office who let the apartment to me announced that that's the way the apartment was let to me and I just have to accept it because at this stage I had become severely ill and I was constantly complaining to the landlord trying to be moved or the place to be cleaned. At 1 stage I would have come into contact with the mold and maybe splashed it into my eye by accident. I mentioned this to the doctors in the hospital after they thought that I had vasculitis but I lost sight in one eye and I did have an autoimmune illness they believed with an inflammatory marker in my blood ......that was all they could find wrong with me and I was only about 40 slim relatively healthy but always having lots of allergies....... the main damp wall was eventually fixed maybe 5 years after I moved in! It was stripped completely ....had to be dried out and rebuilt with eventually waterproof cladding put into the roof so it may be sorted now but I can tell you I will never ever move into an apartment that somebody has left ahead of me and disconnected the heating as I could not have known that she was an unbelievably weird character that went into a very good building ahead of me and decided to make herself homeless owing the landlord thousands in rent and did not put any heat on for 4 years!!😢😢 a lot of this I found out down the line and to this day I believe the landlord hid details. This is unheard of in Ireland to come across that sort of character but it was my very bad luck as I was the victim of a crime and I was very upset and I did not look at the apartment and said 'I'll take it.... anything will do'..... to get out of the place that I was living I moved across the country from trauma into an absolute cesspit of black mould. It was sort of my own fault but I could not have predicted and would never have known that it was that long without heating ! It was the very first week that I was reliant on this little heater with no heat connected at all that did the damage(it took a week to reconnect the gas) especially because of a span new bed that was pushed up against an intersection corner of two damp walls and looking back now I sleep on my back and my left eye was in that corner and that's the eye that is now blind. I now don't believe in pushing beds against walls. I am sorry this story is so long! Hopefully it will help somebody or the creators of this video would have an idea whether the mould caused my eye loss as I would love to know! I am more or less recovered now 5 years later.😢😢 actually recounting this story in this comment made me realise just what I've lived through

I recently looked at an older, cute double wide mobile home, but didn't get it. I was so sad, because I could see me living there. It smelled bad, the first day I looked at it. Gave a verbal offer, but they didn't accept it. They had painted everything white inside, but it still needed some updating. For the right price, I could make it work, but someone else got approved ahead of me. When I saw it the second time, I didn't smell what I had before. Now I think it was mold. Not all molds smell the same. It's good to know about the dust test. Thank you for this info.
I was exposed after a demolition, in which heavy black mold was in a small space. No, I was properly dressed and had an approved filtered mask the whole time. Disposed the debris in plastic and discarded it in the trash. As always there was moldy sawdust in area that I cleaned up with a shop vac. I went on and cut new wood, reconstructed framed walls, and covered them in paneling. Which I again used the shop vac to clean up after my work. A few days latter I had an odd sensation on my lower lip, that went onto my tung. My MD sent me to a communal disease MD and he theorized I had exposed myself to the mold. It came down to it that what I had left in the vac, which I didn't clean after that first clean up, put mold spores into the air where I was. Why it get into my lugs is a miracle. Two years on I'm still affected by it. Medication, Nystatin oral does stop it totally but if I miss a couple of doses I comes back.
you might try an acupuncture treatment called 'allergy clearing'. I had low back pain for years; chiropractic did little. The practitioner employed kinesology (" muscle testing") and determined that mold and uranium had taken up residence in the low back. The allergy clearing greatly reduced my pain; I rarely notice it now.
Diffuse essential oil melaleuca alternifolia...4-5 drops on 350ml of h20. You be in the room it is diffusing in, like at night in your bed room. It will transfer into your body in about 22 minutes and start to kill the mold. If you are not buying from the melaleuca company directly, then buy the brand NOW tea tree oil 30ml bottle. Ozon machine to kill spores, before vacuuming /repairing❗ Build houses propperly from day one, with vents in EVERY room, & that way airing of rooms will prevent moist air to build mold in homes... ❗Drainage around the whole ground of the house is a MUST❗Conect it to pool with stones few meters AWAY from the house, that is placed LOWER than the ground of the house ❗❗same goes for gutters..
Its not the mold that's toxic. It's the synthetic glues, paints, flame retardants, etc that are released as volatiles and microparticles when the materials are wet. The molds are actually mitigating the toxicity by breaking these substances down in most cases. In a natural forest setting these molds are everywhere. But they are not releasing toxins and allergens from the biological material they are breaking down, so cause no heath effects. Modern buildings are toxic especially when wet. Whether there is mold present or not.
You make some interesting points. Can you recommend some studies or discussions which cover what you are suggesting? I think their is no doubt that chemicals is a major problem and offgasing isn't constant at all temperatures and humidity levels. Are you saying that the mould is being mistaken for the problem because it appears with the problem, offgasing? Is it likely that because people with problems address the mould and at the same time take what they are breathing into consideration, hence buy air filter or frequently air/ventilate rooms, that they incorrectly convince themselves that the problem was the mould?
I worked in a hospital constructed in the 1980s on the east cost of florida for 38 yrs mold would grow under the wallpaper vinyl it did not breathe and visitors would lean against the wall and the sheetrock had rotted it has been a uncorrected issue several decades some wings had a mold odor when you entered the unit the normal response was this is florida

I was a cleaning specialist for three decades in America. I always inspect prior to bringing my bags into a hotel. Mold is very toxic. Those with compromised immune systems should be extra precautious😢
Me too it closed my throat I had so many infections that it turned into sepsis which is deadly and now the landlord suing me for breach of lease the nerve of him when he knew all along something was wrong with his house the full report from the exterminator told it all 🤦🏽♀️

This is a very informative interview. My husband and I are in the process of moving out of an apartment that has reoccurring mold in the bathroom. The management told us to just spray bleach on it. Seriously. After my husband has had two major issues with breathing and phlegm in his lungs, we’ve decided to move. I don’t even want to clean the bathroom before we move (but I will). Right now we use the 2nd bathroom exclusively.
This addresses the home. How about the person who is mold sick. It took my son 2 yrs to recover from a highly contaminated apartment. And he had a very hard time finding any doctor who believes in mold sickness. He had to travel to another state, but he did find one. But 2 yrs to recover…seriously.
I had the mold removed after Hurricane Ian in SW FLORIDA … UNFORTUNATELY, I didn’t realize all the testing that COULD be done! I swore my tiles weren’t lifted before the hurricane ( because I clean the floors on my hands & knees weekly). But the insurance co denied the hurricane caused it…the foundation on my home actually moved (I’m very very near the Gulf of Mexico). We lived in the driveway for 11+ months just until we could move back in. The air didn’t smell right inside OR out, the piles of furniture either on lawns, the waterways & canals aren’t the same either (I have a “nose” that can smell better than others. I think. I have respiratory problems now (no infection, just extra phlegm & cough). Cancer came back after a seven year disappearance too. No one knows why…but I do. Going back to MD Cancer TREATMENT CENTER. THEN MOVING TO THE MOUNTAINS. FINGERS CROSSED ( sorry about the caps).
When I’m insulating, I usually take off the paper of the paper backed insulation , anyone who’s done remodeling in older houses or not so old has noticed black mold growing on the paper , also, check your caulking every year, the Florida sun is brutal, and then there’s the termites, they need moisture, termites burrow in between caulking and paint . I’m partial to pressure treated woods
@@barbarasteen2710 👋🏻 hi, we use borac treated timber in nz fyi but I've see new timber that has gotten wet develop green mold and it will still take black mold in a wet environment.. the best preventative measure is to stop and prevent leaks, have a good one way permeable vapor barrier (building wrap) and ventilation ventilation ventilation 🖐😊
You do realize that you removed the vapor barrier right? Why not simply buy naked insulation then? And a big dehumidifier! Sounds like an older house without wrap so the moisture source could be from inside or outside, important to determine.

I'm a home health aide. One of my clients years ago was on Oxygen. I was a fill in when her regular aide was on vacation. I saw her some months later and she was no longer on Oxygen. I asked her why. She said her grandson noticed her carpet was squishy in one corner of the room in which she spent most of her time. The water heater had a slow leak. The leak had come under the wall into her sitting room. Once the repairs were made she no longer needed Oxygen. Mold was not discussed with me but I suspect mold was causing her breathing problems.
I'm glad I saw this video. I was living with leaks in ceiling due to damaged rooftop and with continued leaks infiltrating it caused the seepage into crevices of my walls . Unbeknownst to me the mold built up within the walls creating a foul mildew smell. I hired a mold specialist confirmed it was aspergillus penicilium and doctor said I shouldn't worry. I started getting ear infections, sinisitus then bronchitis then lung pneumonia. Then asthma. Being informed of this by ear, nose& throat specialist along side medical specialist who deals with toxicity suggested I return to the home and get it cleaned properly. Because it was a rental the landlord minimized the problem. Said the mold I claimed was not that bad nor was it from water infiltrating. During this conflict, the smell in the home got worse causing me to remove myself all together. I hired another mold specialist who said the mold tested at that point was Stachybotrys chartarum. I screeched. It's fortunate I now knew what was ailing me but now. I'm without a home and out of pocket for Medical treatments and landlord doesn't want to claim liability. I now have to stand up against this demon and research facts about mold and the body and what I can do to prove the relation between mold and my sickness. So if you find yourself with any symptoms and/or position like mine that l described seek immediate assistance. Then make a stand against corrupt landlords!!!!
I’m working on doing the same thing… I lived in my apartment for 10 years, been sick at times near death since 2019, my children have had some issues but not as much as me due to I was there all the time and have several autoimmune issues. The complex doesn’t want to do anything, so I’ve had to do everything myself and am seeking litigation against them to be forced to fix the buildings for all the other tenants & reimbursements. Doubt it will get very far with the corrupt systems but I’m gonna try. I have a lot of work Achaea’s of me and recovery. I’m watching videos like this to build my case.
Professional Mold fogging seems to work. I was deadly sick in 2022 and a month after my home was fogged I was so much better. No throwing any items away or remediation. Pure maintenance is the company name for those who are sick and want to try it. My landlord was so happy to hear of it winces it’s way cheaper than remediation and no having to pay for hotel stays. I was pretty bad so the smell affected me for a week or so since it’s made from vinegar and hydrogen peroxide but the mold in my body reacted violently to me breathing it in.
Just be aware that although peroxide destroys mold and other biological contaminants, it also has the very same effect on human tissue. Just so you know.
Thanks for posting this information I'm beside myself because I've had my roof done and has rained inside my house 9 times I am using a dehumidifier but I'm very worried about Mold in the walls. I hope I can find a fogging company in my area. P.S. do you know if it works inside walls ????? I don't have the funds to remove them and get them replaced.
I used Safrax and Biocide….both natural and the biocide smells like citrus . I triple remediated just to be extra safe. I spent about $500 total on those products. They’re both about $30 ea, so I purchased several. I bought extra just in case I needed it. I haven’t used but 1/2 of it.
I can barely go anywhere, barely be home. This is torture and it has been 46 years of almost no one understanding. Thankfully others will have a different experience than I did because this is being talked about now.
Please help me find help ...the same thing that happened to Gweneth Paltrow is happened to me, and I live in subsidized housing and have been diagnosied with Blastocystosis (water mold parasite): I cannot get the property management group to make the necessary repairs and the other tenants in the building are suffering from exposure, but don't know it. I have involved Property Standards who seem to have fallen in and are suceeding to cover up any evidence I report. This is worse than it seems
I early on suspected mould to be one factor why for instance the UK had many more severe Covid19 cases than Germany. Mould is rare in Germany as houses are built in a different way and partly the climate may also differs in over all humidity. I compared many countries for specific factors influencing otherwise inexplicable differences. One is for sure nutrition and metabolic health. And of course average age of the population, vitamin D, zinc and selen deficiency.
I live in a home built in 1960.. Weather board cladding, wooden window framing. Each room has a small window we always leave OPEN ie continous VENTILATION and AIR CHANGES. . Hence ZERO MOULD. They knew how to design houses in the 70's.
A proper building design would not require manipulation manually. Newer buildings are simply more controlled through HVAC systems. You can accomplish better air controls via a HRV. Which uses electricity and sometimes gas. Any Building new or old can have mold.

I moved from Florida to New Mexico a few yrs ago. I've seen plenty of mold in Florida, but didn't think it would grow here. However, I moved into an older apt that has (I think black.mold) around the swamp cooler where it leaked before I moved in). My landlord doesn't seem to want to do anything about it. In Portugal there is a definite mood issue in homes. They use vinegar! 🌸 Vinegar also penetrates deep into porous surfaces, killing around 82% of the mold. And, it is safer than bleach!🍃
I learned bleach can clean it, but it grows back because bleach cannot get into porous surfaces. Only vinegar can kill the little roots plus what you wrote. Hydrogen peroxide too. Vinegar is the way to go. Ty for your comment. If they can use it in Portugal, we can use it here. -John's wife
We were fortuate not to have mold in our ceiling and roof after Ian but our plumbing was messed up..almost $400 dollars in plumbing bills and our water still smells and tastes musty. The plumber said it was just the quality of the water and the whole of Charlotte county water system is this way. Thank you for the information
My husband went to Lowes or Homedepot and bought a good water filter and installed a mini bar faucet beside our kitchen sink faucet where the sprayer goes. Helped our water. When we lived down south, we installed an expensive three filter water filter. I think they have compact reverse osmosis systems now for under sink. The filters wers expensive. Glad we're using a reasonably priced filter with good rating now. -John's wife
Two members of my family tested high for mycotoxins so we started investigating our home. There was no odor or stains on walls, nothing big to be seen. We had already installed a new HVAC and heating system. So, we had a mold investigator came to our home and do a thorough exam of our home, did two air samples (one outside for comparison) and then did an ERMI dust test. It came back stating that our levels were Q4, the highest level tested by ERMI. We were shocked so then we decided to have all carpet removed from the home since the previous owners had an old dog that had many accidents in the home. We also wiped down all items in our home and put them in tubs as well as wiping down all furniture and then covering them up for the remediation. So, we did the remediation including removing the carpet by closing off the area, using negative pressure and bags to remove the old carpet, also, we had our air ducts cleaned. We then had new hardwoods installed in all bedrooms where the old carpet had been. We cleaned the house and then waited a few months to retest with the HERTSMI - 2. The results still were in the highest level for mold and we were advised that we should not be living here until it remediated. Our issue is that we don't know why the levels are still high unless it's in our walls somewhere and not showing as stains on our walls. We don't know what else to do besides tearing open all walls to search which sounds super crazy since the cost will be way more than we can afford after all we 've done so far. Why could we still have high levels after everything we've done and how do we find the source if it's not visible. We don't have the funds to move since we just moved into this home about 18 months ago. Any thoughts on how we could find the source for all this moldy dust?
We are in the exact same situation. We paid $20k for professional remediation last year but I still have high indoor levels causing health issues. I’m trying to see if fogging or misting with Benefect or EC3 will help. Mold is such a challenge and seems to be incredibly common…😢
Have you checked your flooring, carpet, tile, hardwoods. We have a moisture meter and our hardwoods are testing high for moisture (20%). We had an inspector but I don't believe he tested the flooring. So, there could be mold under the flooring. We have a slab so I thought we would be safe there but i guess not. We purchased 2 large UVC air purifiers and had to get our HVAC system replaced. There was mold inside the furnace and the ducts! The remediation company did not find this and they were of no help. We went straight to a heating and air company to take care of it. Also, we run a dehumidifier constantly. I think living in the SouthEast, we will have to be constantly monitoring our house for mold but we even had it in a drier climate. Hope some of this helps you!!

as a handicap senior, i had some rude,mean,lazy,lying PSWs caring for me. a few months ago they neglected to change my bedding for2 months. we it finally did get changed, it seemed that my water pillow had leaked, resulting in mold and mildew under my pillow right through the bedding. my health had gone downhill during that time. never improved. problems continued and i now have pneumonia. i slept on that crap for two months!

Im like 7 minutes into the video. With regard to gypsum board. If the board is breifly wetted and then dries slowly but long enough to grow mold, cutting two feet up the wall is probably sufficient. If the homeowner is forced to abandon the home or the house was vacant for any length of time, or there is a protracted water leak behind the wall then water will wick up the gypsum board. In that case you need to remove the gypsum board to the seams. Here the contractors like to put the gypsum board sideways, which means you need to find the seems between the adjacent peices and remove them. If the gypsum board is moist or crumbly, it needs to come out. There are other factors. A colleage of mine works for a non-prophet organization that helps people recover from natural disasters. One of the biggest issues in recovering storm damaged homes is preexisting damage due to "defered maintanence". and this actually gets to the heart of the matter. Im not a neurologist and so I don't look at the problem that way. I worked on autoinflamatory allergic diseases and mold is just the tip of the iceberg. Let me just say what is being observed on the clinical side. There has been a ramp up in our area of autoimmune-like diseases (namely autoimmune thyroid and urticarial disease ) associated with airway inflammation. The problem is growing quickly and the cause is uncertain. This uptick began about 5 years ago, so before covid, though covid certainly seems to be playing some role. However on the other side is we have, from the 1960s walls the were well ventilated and breathed to the outside of the house. Since the 70s the vapor barriers facing outside have become increasing better and the insulation increasingly higher. The air within the walls becomes increasingly stagnant. However, we also have new clading, typically tongue and groove and brick, we are see now more stucco and hardiplank. More over the problem is that most installers of these products are not installing them with a breather space between the cladding and the vaporbarrier. Moisture trapped between the vaporbarrier and the cladding will cause fasteners to rust and eventually water will get behind the vapor barrier and gett trapped behind the wall. I have see serious, as in structure compromising damage caused by both hardiplank and stucco. Haridiplank damage is particularly insideous because poor installations frequently break and cause rodent infiltration into the house. Once rats get into the structure of house you can basically estimate the damage done to the house as $5000/year . 1. Compact insulation, 2. Rat and mouse urinary proteins are allergens. 3. They can shread the vapor barrier, which can lead to water pipes freezing in cold weather, which can cause mold 4. The rats can die and potentially spread zoonotic ahents. 5. Deposition of feces If a house is flooded with significant animal feces in the wall its just as if it was flooded with sewer water. 6. Rats in the attics can chew through plastic pipes and AC condensate lines, which can causing ceilings to mold and cavitate. They can also remove the insulation on the HVAC coolant lines causing them to sweat, this can cause unseen mold problem in the ceiling. There are other problem. Fire ants and termites can, if the vapor barrier is damaged, build into the house. Fire ant mounds can promote the rotting of the base plate and cause structural issues. Termites of course destroy a houses framing, but the waste from termite is caustic and can burn the eyes and irritate the lungs. Many home owners either through gardening or neglect allow dirt to build up the side of the foundation allowing soil borne insects to access the walls of the house. In one house I recently investigated the fireants actually used the insulation to build 5 feet up into the wall. The homeowner was completely unaware, and the nest would not have been detected except will looking for damage from a leak I noticed the bottom of the gypsum board was weak and crumbling. Hear in the southeast wood roaches love to create homes in walls above windows and doors, not sure why, and the feces and remains of these animals can create irritating smells for years. So here is the advice I would give to clinician. Alot of affected individuals from sick house syndrom are simply breathing air that comes through the outside wall of the house. This often occurs because noone routinely inspects the AC ductwork in the attic of HVAC systems and they leak. Since residential homes generally dont have a makeup air system to create positive pressure in the house, when a leak occurs in the attic, the system will creat negative pressure in the house. That air will flow through the cladding, vapor barrier, insulation, any animal nests or mold in the walls, amd then through the trim, electrical outlets, lighting fixtures and other penetrations of the gypsum board. One additional problem with in-attic HVAC. Drip pans should be inspected often, an active overflow pan can consense moisture and drip onto the ceiling. the Low pressure coolant lines can condenstae moisture and should be insulated. But there is still one more area that a clinician should be aware of, given the general negative pressure of homes and many humid climates, the rapid change of temperature and humidity in the winter and spring can cause the accumulation of moisture around the windows. It is not uncommon to find in many homes that the windows cannot be locked. Further investigation reveals a "pad" of detritus that in enriched in mold and can cause asthmatic crisis when the wind blows from the direction that the window is facing. Simply cleaning the window seals can alleviate the problem and said individuals should have a maintenance program to insure this is done routinly, and, old faulty windows should be replaced. But also such sensitive persons need a _GOOD_ HVAC routine maintenance. Many houses of people i've run across as "sick house" are simply poorly maintained, I see far more of these with people suffering from airway inflammation versus flat out moldy gypsum board problems, despite the large numbers of floods we have had. The reason here is than in an upscale house that is flooded, its going to be inspected for all damage in the walls and cleaned. Whereas a house that is 70 or 80 years old that has not had the gypsum board of the exterior walls replaced is simply accumulating unssen problems.
Interesting topic & video. However you only talked about homes built in the last 50 > 70 years. What about structures built in the 1830’s ? Old stone foundations built with Lime based cement that deteriorate over time and weep water in heavy rains. Then property owner builds a basement apartment in it. Been here for over 8 years now. I have real concerns about the IAQ.
I feel that people need to be educated..a LOT more about mold. Most people believe that mold is just something that appears in damp areas and if it's bad enough, it needs to be removed. Most people do NOT think of mold as a Living, growing Organism.

Diet, or daily food to me is more about ph balance, viscera stimulation.. (ie the taste; sweet, sour, salty, bitter and spicy foods which should be consumed in balance over a 24 hr period), and also the temperature of the food (ie beef warm, mutton cool, fish cool, wild pork warm etc). I agree meat can give an advantage and also stimulates a driving mental state but 'nutrition' wise I believe it holds little value. I am old school and remove all the blood from meat as blood holds the majority of toxins.. where's many would argue this is where all the iron is which I believe is a falicy promoted by the industry.. spirrulena in comparison gives more bioavailable iron than beef liver.. mainly because it is plant derrived and modern beef isn't exactly a healthy animal itself.. food for thought.. I've had mold removed from two different homes. Both had it in the attic. Its a huge deal. The pros I hired did everything right to be sure it was removed. There were thick sheets of platic hanging to block the rest of the house off. They used fans all day to get it out. Several techs were working in the attic to remove it. I don't know what else they did in the attics. It cost around $3k than, which is over 20 years ago, to fix. I found out there was mold through home inspections before I bought the houses. It's a huge process to remove mold. Call the experts.

In the UK the 'greens' are talking about making homes airtight to save heat. As we live in a cold damp environment imagine what will happen to health in 10 years time here. You dont need to be a brain to find mold though. Test Bathrooms, kitchen/utility, bedrooms, living room, hallway and garage. You can find mould in all of these even if you are a fanatic in cleaning.
I have greatly airtight windows in my mobile home in VT and I have mold absolutely everywhere! After 7 years here, at 63 I'm actually getting sick from it 😮
I to live in the UK, and are homes had cladding insulation slabs put on the outside walls, but I swear it's caused water retention between the layers. My bed is near the window because I have breathing difficulties and when I wake up in the mornings the first thing I can smell is a dusty like musty smell, and this happens even after constant cleaning and replacing beds and bed clothes. I was thinking I had long covid, but I am now beginning to think it might be mold that's causing all my issues. The bad thing is, I don't even know if there is anything we can do about it in the UK.
@@fredzep01 In the UK humidity rarely rises above 60%. What this means is that IF OPEN TO OUTSIDE AIR the moisture level drops below that required to grow mould. Even in winter we used to leave windows slightly open - humans produce water mainly as we breathe; if you want to keep the windows shut during the day then at least flush our warm moist air every couple of hours by opening the windows on two sides of the house. It all warms back up quickly. In a cold climate, double storey houses need doors upstairs and downstairs; failure to stick to this design means warm air from downstairs will always go up - being replaced with cooler air from upstairs. This results in the bottom one or two feet of downstairs being a 'cold sump'; 5 to 15 degrees colder than the average inside temperature inside the house. One last point, the houses in the UK were designed decades ago to 'breath', both through air-bricks linking the inside to the outside air, but also through the brickwork itself - the moisture of our brearhing slowly seeping out of the house. Anything that removes these two mechanism for reducing moisture levels WILL cause mould. Really lastly! We now have more moisture creating appliances - gas cookers, clothes driers and washing machines and dishwashers. Any of these that do not vent to the outside overload the design features in older houses. Addition of extractor fans or external venting tubes are required to modernise the moisture removal requirements to prevent mould. Have fun! P.S. No studies have yet been done as to how to replace the 'through the back wall ventilation' once external heat insulation cladding has been applied over all the external walls or once spray foam has been added inside the roof tiles. Ideally all the hot air that reaches the top of houses should be expelled via heat exchangers which also bring warmed fresh air from outside!
I've had multiple exposures to mold and lived in a completely infested house in the country for almost 3 years during covid. I thought I just had long covid, but no, I had mycotoxicity. I have had many horrible symptoms in all body systems. I fear I may never fully get better. I seem to have permanent MCAS.

I early on suspected mould to be one factor why for instance the UK had much more severe Covid19 cases than Germany. Mould is rare in Germany as houses are built in a different way and partly the climate may also differ in over all humidity.

All you have to do is move to a dry climate semi desert will sort out all your issues I suffered terribly with similar symptoms and moved to a dryer area also invest in a brick house with cavity walls is a healthier solution - I found it strange to live in wooden houses or dry wall houses this is a great breading place for molds.

I lived in a 100 year old mold house!!! Until I could move 3 years ago to one with scorpions and Diamondback Rattlesnakes!!! The house was built from cement block, brick veneer and stucco in 1968, and is on 3 acres, with a 5500sqft. house with sub-basement. But,,, No Mold!!! It was killing me!!! Then I tried UV lights!!! I put 12, 8 foot bulbs in my attic. I left them on all the time. It helped with the cieling but, there was still mold under the house. So, from now on it will be a big thing to check for, before moving in. As for the snakes and scorpions they stay away from my dogs and the house. I live next to a 49,000 acre National Wildlife Refuge and no fly zone, so the wildlife comes with the acrage.
You may have coverage on a 3 year old home. However when the hvac in FL was installed wrong it needed another outlet. The floors were hollow and the hvac leaked and my whole living area was covered with water. The ins. Co. Was told by the judge to claim bankruptcy and the builders well the big law firm I pay has not sought to fix. I my husband and dog are always sick. What do we do?????
It sounds like the builders are to fault? They should have liability insurance? Write to the insurance commisioner about your homeowners insurance if covered but insurance not covering it. (check your policy) There's a deductible on most. Read through the comments, there's alot of good ideas. someone mentioned an ozone machine. Vinegar kills mold or 6 percent hydrogen peroxide or borax. Ytube has videos on just about anything. Verify. Research. Comments even suggest detox ideas. Other videos to research how to detox from mold naturally. It's different for pets so research that too. 🙏
After suspecting I had mold in my house I started doing research on the topic just to find that there were no industry standards for remediation leaving the door open for pretty much anyone to do anything. This is such a problem why there are no standards for this industry. I am so suspicious of All the various claims out there that I have not taken action believing that I was being taken advantage of.
I'm an allergy sufferer, mostly hayfever. I seem to get really sick from time to time, I get a cough with sticky phlegm that can last for months on end. My house in on a concrete slab with no drainage so ground water tends to make the carpets damp. This also happened to me when i used to live in a small shack with a leaky roof. A few years back i rented a garage from a friend for storage, this garage was dug into the ground under his house, some parts of the walls were furry with what could have been a type of mould. There were times of the year that i had to go in there just for 10 or 20 mins when i would start coughing within a few minutes, the cough was a tickly dry cough, very irritating but once i left the building the cough would cease. I have an ozone generator but i don't use it because the smell from using it lingers for many weeks and it tends to melt certain plastic or rubber items, i don't really want all my things to become brittle or broken from the ozone. for now i try to keep a little ventilation (i would open everything up but it's also the hayfever season!) i also use dehumidifiers if it gets too humid.

Mould in the bathroom/shower room, best to open the window for a few hours, even in the winter. I usuallly shut the door, open the window and leave the bathroom like that overnight or all day if I've showered at night. Don't have to worry about mould and our bathroom/shower room is on the cold side of the house, but that's my method to make sure i don't get mould in our bathroom (Sorry USA'an but to us down under, the bathroom is where our shower and bath is. I'm wondering if you could get a whole house ionizer (ozone generator) and remove any pets, and let it run for a day or even 2 days - 3 days. Then let it air out with all the windows open for a day. Would that kill everything on the porous objects? We are talking books, pictures, clothes, carpet etc.
We did! I run my ozonator in the basement for half hour. I had mildew and musty smell disappeared. I also do smudging. I burn oregano leaves and white sage. Mildew/molds hates it.
Good idea, fan. My mother leaves screen windows open, get a cross breeze going to air her place out on a nice low humidity day. We run a humidifier in the basement and notice how full it gets when we do laundry. Mold doesn't like dry or sunlight, it can't thrive. Vinegar or hydrogen peroxide kills mold. Wear an N95 mask, eye protection, don't spray it directly it could spread. Immediately bag and throw out papertowels and take out to trash.

@@mudslinger888 I got mold exposure in AZ in 3 different apartments, was dying in my bed, all could be prevented, negligence and failure to stop the water leak lead to mold grow, that took me and my son seeing sick in one month after the leak.

I've already been told by one of two apartment managers that if I file legal paperwork to effect repair of plumbing leaks from the apartment upstairs that I will receive immediate 20 day eviction notice. The bathroom upstairs has been leaking for two years. I physically had the manager in here more than half dozen times and he watched the water pouring from the ceiling, running down the walls in both my bathroom and my bedroom which shares a common wall. It's been leaking so badly for so long that my bedroom ceiling in the lowest spot has completely disintegrated and hangs down in tatters. He had his maintenance crew in numerous times and everybody and their brother took pictures. At 65, I think they're playing the long game. I'll be dead and no one will be the wiser.

another reason for the most part, interior basement drainage systems are scams, they do not stop water penetration through basement walls or obviously above basement walls (exterior tuckpointing, caulking , waterproofing needs)
Amen. Good mention. We remortared cement blocks from the outside and stopped the leak of water that ran in basement as you mentioned. The gutter needed cleaned out as it wasn't draining correctly, the slope of dirt was going toward ths house than away from house. What we couldn't repoint on outside, we repointed on the inside. Fascinating, Question ! I Had a coffee maker, the one you fill with water, I used it for about 4, years. I never cleaned it, the water reservoir, it wasn’t removable . Can you get sick from that?? As a grad student I saw my prof had chronic nasal congestion so I shared research on mold in nasal tissue. He added an antifungal mouthwash to his Neti pot and the runny nose was cured after years of suffering
One video I watched said they tested for mold outside and inside to compare. It's natural and can always float in from air and outside. Key is moisture, humidity, condensation, ect.
I'm allergic to some molds in nature, which means that I get itchy eyes and throat at certain times of the year - after the pollen season. I have some hay fever too, but I found it strange that often the most severe symptoms would appear after summer. Typically these natural molds inhabit forests, so if you have no forests nearby, then this is not the cause of whatever allergy symptoms you may have. Usually a good cover of snow and drier cold air keep symptoms away.
Not sure why we here in the north fear something so much that we know so little about. If you've ever traveled throughout the world, in the tropics, mold is everywhere, inside and out. In SE Asia, which i'm most familiar with, hundreds of millions of people live in moldy homes and never think twice about it. Even in upscale hotels you can find mold issues if you look. In a humid environment it can't be avoided. Yet people thrive. In more developed countries we tend to become paranoid and see demons everywhere. Our health problems are more likely due to our lifestyle & the garbage we eat than molds. I will add however that the ubiquitous dirty air conditioners are a problem. No matter where you go, no one ever seems to clean them and they provide an environment for many classes of bacteria & fungi.
In the north?😂 ..that's where some of the most blighted buildings are...be grateful you live in a place where you can preach your peace from inexperience...all it takes is one nasty exposure....just one....
Also, we have weak immune systems due to our poor diet. This leaves us without the ability to deal with natural substances that we should not have issues with.

The expert didn’t really address the best cleaner/liquid to use to kill mold, except 8% peroxide to clean grout. Or did I miss it? Anyone can recommend the best natural chemical? Alkaline or acidic? Etc?
What about using a UVC sanitising light, I read it renders the mould’s dna inactive, I use one in my house plus I spray isopropyl mixed with 700ml alcohol basically rubbing alcohol 99% mixed with 100 drops of wormwood essential oil and it keeps the black mold at bay as bleach gets on my chest as I have asthma and respiratory problems

A friend of mine stayed in a hospital on Maui the end of last year. I noticed black mold growing on and around the air conditioning vents and ceiling above the vents. This was in two separate rooms. I told the nurse that there was black mold growing and she had the janitor come and clean the outside of the vent. My friend developed a chest rattle toward the end of his stay at the hospital which cleared up in 24 hours after being discharged.

I went to a job interview one time as a referral for someone who said the employer can't get anyone to stay and they all quit - they are irresponsible. The office was in a basement of an old warehouse & the first thing I noticed was odd, intense pungent smell and the carpet was curled.
Sure enough I got a tickle in my throat that worsened and cut the interview short. I ran out of there and was fine after that. Explains why no one wanted to work there!

I wish more medical doctors would become educated. We had a bad leak and while waiting for insurance to approve someone to come out. I got supper sick. My neighbor did a test that showed high levels of mold. Insurance didn't even bother, the people who came out just punched holes in the walls and exposed us for weeks before they finished the job. When I went to my doctor and told her about the mold and how horrible I felt. She laughed and said mold can't make you sick. Then she told me I should see a therapist, and that I was just traumatized by the renovation of the house. Insurance is ANOTHER story, the bare minimum and the cheapest least qualified is who they hire. It's BS.
I can relate. We had a sewage backup in our home in January and insurance denied our claim. Sewage backup is called category 3 water, black water. It's contaminated. Both bathrooms backed up, sewer water got underneath our laminate floors. We had a restoration company out the same day and they put in an industrial dehumidifier and air scrubber in our home and they ran constantly for over 2 months before being removed. We have been unable to do any remediation work because our insurance claim is in litigation, they decided they would rather fight it in court rather than just pay out the legitimate claim. A couple months ago i noticed some black substance on something that was sitting under our vanity that has no cabinet underneath the sink since it's for ADA accessibility. Our attorney ordered a mold test and sure enough we have 6 different strains of mold in the house and also airborne mold. My allergies have been much worse this year and now i suspect it's because of the mold. Just hoping the insurance will get this resolved soon so we can get the remediation done.

thank you for this presentation. I do water damage restoration in an arid climate. Mold is more of a problem than it might seem. What a person can look for, without a full-blown mold inspection, (air sampling, etc.) is signs of 'chronic moisture' - a small leak, a cold area where humidity will condense, or layers of substrates (especially vapor barriers, like vinyl wallpaper, multiple layers of flooring, wall tile). 'Sheetrock sandwich', i.e. sheetrock between, say, plaster and paneling, or a visqueen vapor barrier and wall tile or multiple layers of paint. Look for water marks around wall penetrations like windows, doors, and especially skylights. A musty smell is mold, but is different from the smell of water. If a space always smells wet, it probably won't be too long before it smells musty. In short, use your eyes and nose and if in doubt, or you want more assurance, call a pro.

I left a opened up yogurt carton on my table for 2 hours on a hot humid day of summer...after I looked in again, I was absolutely HORRIFIED to see a black mold crowing inside it!!! I mean, I checked it before I did set it to my counter and it was clear of mold. Then forget to go and throw it out to the bin.
But this was the quickest air-sampling results ever!

I knew I had mold in the house due to musty smell and the brick interior had black gray and white mold the hvac has been contaminated because the filters never been changed in 4 yrs mold spores and dust mites the exterminator also said the house had excess moisture before I moved in and the problem got worse
I answer calls for apartment work orders and few take it seriously. Most insist on calling it "biological growth" and many just tell residents it's normal and stop complaining.
I lived in a house full of black mold, for years. When I asked my doctor if it was dangerous he said it was fine and not to worry about it. I finally took my kids and left. It took me a year to feel normal, again. My kids didn't know any different so I don't really know how long it took for them, or if they are still having complications from living in that house for years. :(
Doctors are not trained in epigenetic, toxicology or even health. They are train in diseases! But not how to cure anybody from anything.
Have you come across the rizols Gaba and Gama and one more , all good for mold but potent so follow instructions.

I would think the other problem with waiting for something to dry out after a hurricane is that hurricanes tend to happen in humid areas, which means it might not dry out at all.
That's why annual pressure washing the exterior of a coastal home is necessary as well as... A deep cleaning and inspection of the interior.❤ Need more coffee today😂
Btw. I never understood why people pay millions for a home yet won't pay to keep the homes free of mold. Only a specialist can access these problems. I no longer am able to work. God knows I wish I could be of more service to others. Unfortunately... I can no longer be around mold and germs. My immune system no longer allows me to do the things I used to do. I miss being able to help the elderly and those under going cancer treatments. I'm very knowledgeable when it comes to knowing what chemicals can be used in a clients home based on their health. The first time I learned about the health complications of mold was watching Forensic Files (season 7 episode 19, “Breaking the mold”).
The husband had so many issues he started forgetting simple things such as the place he parked his car while at the store. He had physical and neurological complications; devastating issues for their family.
In the 90’s the family had issues dealing with their home insurance. Their home became inhabitable. It’s sad to know not much has changed with insurance companies.

Since then I've seen Omg a 100 different allergists, internists, psych's, on & on. This was in 3 different cities. Chicago, Dallas and now LA...Not 1 still to this day has EVER mentioned anything about possible mold issues in your home environment. As I think back to every place I lived in, they were all dusty and smelled of mildew/mold in places. I've been taking anxiety/depression medicine for over 30 years. I wonder if mold has been my problem my entire life. Which btw whatever it is, has changed everything about my life. I'm an engineer and learned decades ago these US doctors are horrible. I would be fired at every job if I was incompetent as they are. We live in our houses/offices 80%+. Why on Earth would they not question and research these indoor VOC's?
@@CooqehsProbably from the sinus issues. I know someone who had severe sinus for two winters. A leak from a water valve grew mold behind walls and under the square vinyl laminate. It explained everything. There are alot of good mold videos to remove it, humidity, condensation, to detox your health from it.
So for four years my friend and I stayed at the same hotel in Puerto Vallarta, MX for 10 day trips. Year 3 my friend came home with what her doctor diagnosed as pneumonia. Year 4 again pneumonia. I told her to get her doctor to check her for Legionnaires' disease. Reluctantly her Dr did and yep Legionnaires disease. Needless to say we stopped going to the hotel in PV. I remember seeing black mood around the air conditioner in our rooms. I contacted the hotel to let them know they had a problem and if it was addressed. No reply. Since then we have heard of other cases of the disease from people staying at the same hotel. This was a Westjet vacation hotel.

I was literally thinking the same thing when I read this. I stayed in a hotel close to the beach in Mexico and it smelled wet and musty and I always felt heavy and sick. I decided to try a brand new airbnb in the same location and slept like a baby.
The construction process today is "hurry up" because time is money. You can see many homes are rained on during the build and not allowed to dry before the walls are closed. I think this practice has also contributed to mold. I can't tell you how many construction sites in my area that I've seen do this during this past winter and now spring. A relative has also worked in these situations over many years.

Black mould is a completely different beast to mould on food. A bit of mould that forms on say butter can be cut off without causing issues unless you are extremely ill.

I never got to the bottom of how I went blind in one eye about 2 years after moving into a completely damp apartment that was a renovated garage with a leak in the roof that seeped into one wall that I was sleeping against. All of this was discovered about 4 years later. The first thing I got when I moved in was the shingles, then I hurt my neck very badly and all of this occurred in the winter. The place had no heat for about 4 years after a tenant before me left it go in to rack and ruin. I reconnected the heat once I moved in but I did not know how long it was left cold until I was in it more than a year. It was by accident one day I was out at the gas meter box and I noticed a warning sign printed to it and I could not believe it😢 and all this time I was fighting with the landlord and trying to find out what was wrong with the building and I was so ill asking to be moved but no one would listen to me. Because I was so ill with the shingles I could not deal with the black mould that I discovered bit by bit as I started to move the furniture around.... it was all over the shower most importantly and it was all over the sink and I do remember washing my face and splashing the water up on my eyes with thick black mould that I was too ill to clean. As much as possible I tried not to use the sink for the first week until I could get over the shingles and clean it .....I was literally that ill ....I was never as ill in my life. A random taxi driver in Ireland that drove me home from the hospital after I injured my neck took pity on me and came in and did the bathroom for me ....he regrouted all the black mould edges everywhere and at this stage I was on full disability after having arrived in the apartment healthy with a job lined up which I became unable to do after the neck nerve injury. I did pay the taxi driver a very nominal fee which was probably half what the job would have cost and I believe I gave him €120 but he did not even want to take it but I had it saved. The landlord half cleaned the bathroom with a set of cleaners he sent down who could not deal with black mould and they did their best but they said it needed to be professionally fixed at which stage the lady in the office who let the apartment to me announced that that's the way the apartment was let to me and I just have to accept it because at this stage I had become severely ill and I was constantly complaining to the landlord trying to be moved or the place to be cleaned. At 1 stage I would have come into contact with the mold and maybe splashed it into my eye by accident. I mentioned this to the doctors in the hospital after they thought that I had vasculitis but I lost sight in one eye and I did have an autoimmune illness they believed with an inflammatory marker in my blood ......that was all they could find wrong with me and I was only about 40 slim relatively healthy but always having lots of allergies....... the main damp wall was eventually fixed maybe 5 years after I moved in! It was stripped completely ....had to be dried out and rebuilt with eventually waterproof cladding put into the roof so it may be sorted now but I can tell you I will never ever move into an apartment that somebody has left ahead of me and disconnected the heating as I could not have known that she was an unbelievably weird character that went into a very good building ahead of me and decided to make herself homeless owing the landlord thousands in rent and did not put any heat on for 4 years!!😢😢 a lot of this I found out down the line and to this day I believe the landlord hid details. This is unheard of in Ireland to come across that sort of character but it was my very bad luck as I was the victim of a crime and I was very upset and I did not look at the apartment and said 'I'll take it.... anything will do'..... to get out of the place that I was living I moved across the country from trauma into an absolute cesspit of black mould. It was sort of my own fault but I could not have predicted and would never have known that it was that long without heating ! It was the very first week that I was reliant on this little heater with no heat connected at all that did the damage(it took a week to reconnect the gas) especially because of a span new bed that was pushed up against an intersection corner of two damp walls and looking back now I sleep on my back and my left eye was in that corner and that's the eye that is now blind. I now don't believe in pushing beds against walls. I am sorry this story is so long! Hopefully it will help somebody or the creators of this video would have an idea whether the mould caused my eye loss as I would love to know! I am more or less recovered now 5 years later.😢😢 actually recounting this story in this comment made me realise just what I've lived through

I recently looked at an older, cute double wide mobile home, but didn't get it. I was so sad, because I could see me living there. It smelled bad, the first day I looked at it. Gave a verbal offer, but they didn't accept it. They had painted everything white inside, but it still needed some updating. For the right price, I could make it work, but someone else got approved ahead of me. When I saw it the second time, I didn't smell what I had before. Now I think it was mold. Not all molds smell the same. It's good to know about the dust test. Thank you for this info.

I was exposed after a demolition, in which heavy black mold was in a small space. No, I was properly dressed and had an approved filtered mask the whole time. Disposed the debris in plastic and discarded it in the trash. As always there was moldy sawdust in area that I cleaned up with a shop vac. I went on and cut new wood, reconstructed framed walls, and covered them in paneling. Which I again used the shop vac to clean up after my work. A few days latter I had an odd sensation on my lower lip, that went onto my tung. My MD sent me to a communal disease MD and he theorized I had exposed myself to the mold. It came down to it that what I had left in the vac, which I didn't clean after that first clean up, put mold spores into the air where I was. Why it get into my lugs is a miracle. Two years on I'm still affected by it. Medication, Nystatin oral does stop it totally but if I miss a couple of doses I comes back.
you might try an acupuncture treatment called 'allergy clearing'. I had low back pain for years; chiropractic did little. The practitioner employed kinesology (" muscle testing") and determined that mold and uranium had taken up residence in the low back. The allergy clearing greatly reduced my pain; I rarely notice it now.
Diffuse essential oil melaleuca alternifolia...4-5 drops on 350ml of h20. You be in the room it is diffusing in, like at night in your bed room. It will transfer into your body in about 22 minutes and start to kill the mold.
If you are not buying from the melaleuca company directly, then buy the brand NOW tea tree oil 30ml bottle. Praying for you.

Its not the mold that's toxic. It's the synthetic glues, paints, flame retardants, etc that are released as volatiles and microparticles when the materials are wet. The molds are actually mitigating the toxicity by breaking these substances down in most cases.
In a natural forest setting these molds are everywhere. But they are not releasing toxins and allergens from the biological material they are breaking down, so cause no heath effects.
Modern buildings are toxic especially when wet. Whether there is mold present or not.

I think their is no doubt that chemicals is a major problem and offgasing isn't constant at all temperatures and humidity levels. Are you saying that the mould is being mistaken for the problem because it appears with the problem, offgasing?
Is it likely that because people with problems address the mould and at the same time take what they are breathing into consideration, hence buy air filter or frequently air/ventilate rooms, that they incorrectly convince themselves that the problem was the mould?
I worked in a hospital constructed in the 1980s on the east cost of florida for 38 yrs mold would grow under the wallpaper vinyl it did not breathe and visitors would lean against the wall and the sheetrock had rotted it has been a uncorrected issue several decades some wings had a mold odor when you entered the unit the normal response was this is florida

I was a cleaning specialist for three decades in America. I always inspect prior to bringing my bags into a hotel. Mold is very toxic. Those with compromised immune systems should be extra precautious😢

This is a very informative interview. My husband and I are in the process of moving out of an apartment that has reoccurring mold in the bathroom. The management told us to just spray bleach on it. Seriously. After my husband has had two major issues with breathing and phlegm in his lungs, we’ve decided to move. I don’t even want to clean the bathroom before we move (but I will). Right now we use the 2nd bathroom exclusively.
This addresses the home. How about the person who is mold sick. It took my son 2 yrs to recover from a highly contaminated apartment. And he had a very hard time finding any doctor who believes in mold sickness. He had to travel to another state, but he did find one. But 2 yrs to recover…seriously.

I had the mold removed after Hurricane Ian in SW FLORIDA … UNFORTUNATELY, I didn’t realize all the testing that COULD be done! I swore my tiles weren’t lifted before the hurricane ( because I clean the floors on my hands & knees weekly). But the insurance co denied the hurricane caused it…the foundation on my home actually moved (I’m very very near the Gulf of Mexico). We lived in the driveway for 11+ months just until we could move back in. The air didn’t smell right inside OR out, the piles of furniture either on lawns, the waterways & canals aren’t the same either (I have a “nose” that can smell better than others. I think. I have respiratory problems now (no infection, just extra phlegm & cough). Cancer came back after a seven year disappearance too. No one knows why…but I do. Going back to MD Cancer TREATMENT CENTER. THEN MOVING TO THE MOUNTAINS. FINGERS CROSSED ( sorry about the caps).
When I’m insulating, I usually take off the paper of the paper backed insulation , anyone who’s done remodeling in older houses or not so old has noticed black mold growing on the paper , also, check your caulking every year, the Florida sun is brutal, and then there’s the termites, they need moisture, termites burrow in between caulking and paint . I’m partial to pressure treated woods

You do realize that you removed the vapor barrier right? Why not simply buy naked insulation then? And a big dehumidifier! Sounds like an older house without wrap so the moisture source could be from inside or outside, important to determine.

I'm a home health aide. One of my clients years ago was on Oxygen. I was a fill in when her regular aide was on vacation. I saw her some months later and she was no longer on Oxygen. I asked her why. She said her grandson noticed her carpet was squishy in one corner of the room in which she spent most of her time. The water heater had a slow leak. The leak had come under the wall into her sitting room. Once the repairs were made she no longer needed Oxygen. Mold was not discussed with me but I suspect mold was causing her breathing problems.

I was living with leaks in ceiling due to damaged rooftop and with continued leaks infiltrating it caused the seepage into crevices of my walls . Unbeknownst to me the mold built up within the walls creating a foul mildew smell. I hired a mold specialist confirmed it was aspergillus penicilium and doctor said I shouldn't worry.
I started getting ear infections, sinisitus then bronchitis then lung pneumonia. Then asthma.
Being informed of this by ear, nose& throat specialist along side medical specialist who deals with toxicity suggested I return to the home and get it cleaned properly.
Because it was a rental the landlord minimized the problem.
Said the mold I claimed was not that bad nor was it from water infiltrating.
During this conflict, the smell in the home got worse causing me to remove myself all together.
I hired another mold specialist who said the mold tested at that point was Stachybotrys chartarum.
I screeched. It's fortunate I now knew what was ailing me but now. I'm without a home and out of pocket for Medical treatments and landlord doesn't want to claim liability. I now have to stand up against this demon and research facts about mold and the body and what I can do to prove the relation between mold and my sickness.
So if you find yourself with any symptoms and/or position like mine that l described seek immediate assistance. Then make a stand against corrupt landlords!!!!

I lived in my apartment for 10 years, been sick at times near death since 2019, my children have had some issues but not as much as me due to I was there all the time and have several autoimmune issues. The complex doesn’t want to do anything, so I’ve had to do everything myself and am seeking litigation against them to be forced to fix the buildings for all the other tenants & reimbursements. Doubt it will get very far with the corrupt systems but I’m gonna try. I have a lot of work Achaea’s of me and recovery. I’m watching videos like this to build my case.
Professional Mold fogging seems to work. I was deadly sick in 2022 and a month after my home was fogged I was so much better. No throwing any items away or remediation. Pure maintenance is the company name for those who are sick and want to try it. My landlord was so happy to hear of it winces it’s way cheaper than remediation and no having to pay for hotel stays. I was pretty bad so the smell affected me for a week or so since it’s made from vinegar and hydrogen peroxide but the mold in my body reacted violently to me breathing it in.
Just be aware that although peroxide destroys mold and other biological contaminants, it also has the very same effect on human tissue. Just so you know.

I used Safrax and Biocide….both natural and the biocide smells like citrus . I triple remediated just to be extra safe. I spent about $500 total on those products. They’re both about $30 ea, so I purchased several. I bought extra just in case I needed it. I haven’t used but 1/2 of it.

I early on suspected mould to be one factor why for instance the UK had many more severe Covid19 cases than Germany.
Mould is rare in Germany as houses are built in a different way and partly the climate may also differs in over all humidity.
I compared many countries for specific factors influencing otherwise inexplicable differences.
One is for sure nutrition and metabolic health. And of course average age of the population, vitamin D, zinc and selen deficiency.
I live in a home built in 1960.. Weather board cladding, wooden window framing. Each room has a small window we always leave OPEN ie continous VENTILATION and AIR CHANGES. . Hence ZERO MOULD. They knew how to design houses in the 70's.
A proper building design would not require manipulation manually. Newer buildings are simply more controlled through HVAC systems. You can accomplish better air controls via a HRV. Which uses electricity and sometimes gas. Any Building new or old can have mold.
People are careless with water on structures. I work with all kinds of environmental exposures from toxins. One of my working dogs does mold detection. Ask Dr. Cade in Naples just how talented he is. I restore the structures, people, and canines.

I moved from Florida to New Mexico a few yrs ago. I've seen plenty of mold in Florida, but didn't think it would grow here. However, I moved into an older apt that has (I think black.mold) around the swamp cooler where it leaked before I moved in). My landlord doesn't seem to want to do anything about it.

Vinegar also penetrates deep into porous surfaces, killing around 82% of the mold. And, it is safer than bleach!🍃

Basement suits in Vancouver were painted over black mold. It was a grow house. Chronic sinusitis surgery every year.
We were fortuate not to have mold in our ceiling and roof after Ian but our plumbing was messed up..almost $400 dollars in plumbing bills and our water still smells and tastes musty. The plumber said it was just the quality of the water and the whole of Charlotte county water system is this way.

When we lived down south, we installed an expensive three filter water filter. I think they have compact reverse osmosis systems now for under sink. The filters wers expensive. Glad we're using a reasonably priced filter with good rating now. -John's wife
Two members of my family tested high for mycotoxins so we started investigating our home. There was no odor or stains on walls, nothing big to be seen. We had already installed a new HVAC and heating system. So, we had a mold investigator came to our home and do a thorough exam of our home, did two air samples (one outside for comparison) and then did an ERMI dust test. It came back stating that our levels were Q4, the highest level tested by ERMI. We were shocked so then we decided to have all carpet removed from the home since the previous owners had an old dog that had many accidents in the home. We also wiped down all items in our home and put them in tubs as well as wiping down all furniture and then covering them up for the remediation. So, we did the remediation including removing the carpet by closing off the area, using negative pressure and bags to remove the old carpet, also, we had our air ducts cleaned. We then had new hardwoods installed in all bedrooms where the old carpet had been. We cleaned the house and then waited a few months to retest with the HERTSMI - 2. The results still were in the highest level for mold and we were advised that we should not be living here until it remediated. Our issue is that we don't know why the levels are still high unless it's in our walls somewhere and not showing as stains on our walls. We don't know what else to do besides tearing open all walls to search which sounds super crazy since the cost will be way more than we can afford after all we 've done so far. Why could we still have high levels after everything we've done and how do we find the source if it's not visible. We don't have the funds to move since we just moved into this home about 18 months ago. Any thoughts on how we could find the source for all this moldy dust?
We are in the exact same situation. We paid $20k for professional remediation last year but I still have high indoor levels causing health issues. I’m trying to see if fogging or misting with Benefect or EC3 will help. Mold is such a challenge and seems to be incredibly common…😢
Have you checked your flooring, carpet, tile, hardwoods. We have a moisture meter and our hardwoods are testing high for moisture (20%). We had an inspector but I don't believe he tested the flooring. So, there could be mold under the flooring. We have a slab so I thought we would be safe there but i guess not. Just a thought.

We purchased 2 large UVC air purifiers and had to get our HVAC system replaced. There was mold inside the furnace and the ducts! The remediation company did not find this and they were of no help. We went straight to a heating and air company to take care of it. Also, we run a dehumidifier constantly. I think living in the SouthEast, we will have to be constantly monitoring our house for mold but we even had it in a drier climate. Hope some of this helps you!!

as a handicap senior, i had some rude,mean,lazy,lying PSWs caring for me. a few months ago they neglected to change my bedding for2 months. we it finally did get changed, it seemed that my water pillow had leaked, resulting in mold and mildew under my pillow right through the bedding. my health had gone downhill during that time. never improved. problems continued and i now have pneumonia. i slept on that crap for two months!

With regard to gypsum board. If the board is breifly wetted and then dries slowly but long enough to grow mold, cutting two feet up the wall is probably sufficient. If the homeowner is forced to abandon the home or the house was vacant for any length of time, or there is a protracted water leak behind the wall then water will wick up the gypsum board. In that case you need to remove the gypsum board to the seams. Here the contractors like to put the gypsum board sideways, which means you need to find the seems between the adjacent peices and remove them. If the gypsum board is moist or crumbly, it needs to come out.
There are other factors. A colleage of mine works for a non-prophet organization that helps people recover from natural disasters. One of the biggest issues in recovering storm damaged homes is preexisting damage due to "defered maintanence". and this actually gets to the heart of the matter. Im not a neurologist and so I don't look at the problem that way. I worked on autoinflamatory allergic diseases and mold is just the tip of the iceberg.
Let me just say what is being observed on the clinical side. There has been a ramp up in our area of autoimmune-like diseases (namely autoimmune thyroid and urticarial disease ) associated with airway inflammation. The problem is growing quickly and the cause is uncertain. This uptick began about 5 years ago, so before covid, though covid certainly seems to be playing some role.
However on the other side is we have, from the 1960s walls the were well ventilated and breathed to the outside of the house. Since the 70s the vapor barriers facing outside have become increasing better and the insulation increasingly higher. The air within the walls becomes increasingly stagnant. However, we also have new clading, typically tongue and groove and brick, we are see now more stucco and hardiplank. More over the problem is that most installers of these products are not installing them with a breather space between the cladding and the vaporbarrier. Moisture trapped between the vaporbarrier and the cladding will cause fasteners to rust and eventually water will get behind the vapor barrier and gett trapped behind the wall. I have see serious, as in structure compromising damage caused by both hardiplank and stucco. Haridiplank damage is particularly insideous because poor installations frequently break and cause rodent infiltration into the house. Once rats get into the structure of house you can basically estimate the damage done to the house as $5000/year .
1. Compact insulation,
2. Rat and mouse urinary proteins are allergens.
3. They can shread the vapor barrier, which can lead to water pipes freezing in cold weather, which can cause mold
4. The rats can die and potentially spread zoonotic ahents.
5. Deposition of feces
If a house is flooded with significant animal feces in the wall its just as if it was flooded with sewer water.
6. Rats in the attics can chew through plastic pipes and AC condensate lines, which can causing ceilings to mold and cavitate. They can also remove the insulation on the HVAC coolant lines causing them to sweat, this can cause unseen mold problem in the ceiling.
There are other problem. Fire ants and termites can, if the vapor barrier is damaged, build into the house. Fire ant mounds can promote the rotting of the base plate and cause structural issues. Termites of course destroy a houses framing, but the waste from termite is caustic and can burn the eyes and irritate the lungs. Many home owners either through gardening or neglect allow dirt to build up the side of the foundation allowing soil borne insects to access the walls of the house. In one house I recently investigated the fireants actually used the insulation to build 5 feet up into the wall. The homeowner was completely unaware, and the nest would not have been detected except will looking for damage from a leak I noticed the bottom of the gypsum board was weak and crumbling.
Hear in the southeast wood roaches love to create homes in walls above windows and doors, not sure why, and the feces and remains of these animals can create irritating smells for years.
So here is the advice I would give to clinician. Alot of affected individuals from sick house syndrom are simply breathing air that comes through the outside wall of the house. This often occurs because noone routinely inspects the AC ductwork in the attic of HVAC systems and they leak. Since residential homes generally dont have a makeup air system to create positive pressure in the house, when a leak occurs in the attic, the system will creat negative pressure in the house. That air will flow through the cladding, vapor barrier, insulation, any animal nests or mold in the walls, amd then through the trim, electrical outlets, lighting fixtures and other penetrations of the gypsum board. One additional problem with in-attic HVAC. Drip pans should be inspected often, an active overflow pan can consense moisture and drip onto the ceiling. the Low pressure coolant lines can condenstae moisture and should be insulated.
But there is still one more area that a clinician should be aware of, given the general negative pressure of homes and many humid climates, the rapid change of temperature and humidity in the winter and spring can cause the accumulation of moisture around the windows. It is not uncommon to find in many homes that the windows cannot be locked. Further investigation reveals a "pad" of detritus that in enriched in mold and can cause asthmatic crisis when the wind blows from the direction that the window is facing. Simply cleaning the window seals can alleviate the problem and said individuals should have a maintenance program to insure this is done routinly, and, old faulty windows should be replaced. But also such sensitive persons need a _GOOD_ HVAC routine maintenance.
Many houses of people i've run across as "sick house" are simply poorly maintained, I see far more of these with people suffering from airway inflammation versus flat out moldy gypsum board problems, despite the large numbers of floods we have had. The reason here is than in an upscale house that is flooded, its going to be inspected for all damage in the walls and cleaned. Whereas a house that is 70 or 80 years old that has not had the gypsum board of the exterior walls replaced is simply accumulating unssen problems.

Old stone foundations built with Lime based cement that deteriorate over time and weep water in heavy rains. Then property owner builds a basement apartment in it. Been here for over 8 years now. @@mudslinger888 Cheers mate, I actually agree although I tend to distinguish between diet and nutrition and class meat as 'diet'.. as opposed to 'nutrition'.. Diet, or daily food to me is more about ph balance, viscera stimulation.. (ie the taste; sweet, sour, salty, bitter and spicy foods which should be consumed in balance over a 24 hr period), and also the temperature of the food (ie beef warm, mutton cool, fish cool, wild pork warm etc).
I agree meat can give an advantage and also stimulates a driving mental state but 'nutrition' wise I believe it holds little value. I am old school and remove all the blood from meat as blood holds the majority of toxins.. where's many would argue this is where all the iron is which I believe is a falicy promoted by the industry.. spirrulena in comparison gives more bioavailable iron than beef liver.. mainly because it is plant derrived and modern beef isn't exactly a healthy animal itself.. food for thought.. I've had mold removed from two different homes. Both had it in the attic. Its a huge deal. The pros I hired did everything right to be sure it was removed. There were thick sheets of platic hanging to block the rest of the house off. They used fans all day to get it out. Several techs were working in the attic to remove it. I don't know what else they did in the attics. It cost around $3k than, which is over 20 years ago, to fix. I found out there was mold through home inspections before I bought the houses. It's a huge process to remove mold. Call the experts.

In the UK the 'greens' are talking about making homes airtight to save heat. As we live in a cold damp environment imagine what will happen to health in 10 years time here. You dont need to be a brain to find mold though. Test Bathrooms, kitchen/utility, bedrooms, living room, hallway and garage. You can find mould in all of these even if you are a fanatic in cleaning.

I to live in the UK, and are homes had cladding insulation slabs put on the outside walls,
but I swear it's caused water retention between the layers. My bed is near the window because I have breathing difficulties and when I wake up in the mornings the first thing I can smell is a dusty like musty smell, and this happens even after constant cleaning and replacing beds and bed clothes.
I was thinking I had long covid, but I am now beginning to think it might be mold that's causing all my issues. The bad thing is, I don't even know if there is anything we can do about it in the UK.

In the UK humidity rarely rises above 60%. What this means is that IF OPEN TO OUTSIDE AIR the moisture level drops below that required to grow mould.
Even in winter we used to leave windows slightly open - humans produce water mainly as we breathe; if you want to keep the windows shut during the day then at least flush our warm moist air every couple of hours by opening the windows on two sides of the house. It all warms back up quickly.
In a cold climate, double storey houses need doors upstairs and downstairs; failure to stick to this design means warm air from downstairs will always go up - being replaced with cooler air from upstairs. This results in the bottom one or two feet of downstairs being a 'cold sump'; 5 to 15 degrees colder than the average inside temperature inside the house.
One last point, the houses in the UK were designed decades ago to 'breath', both through air-bricks linking the inside to the outside air, but also through the brickwork itself - the moisture of our brearhing slowly seeping out of the house. Anything that removes these two mechanism for reducing moisture levels WILL cause mould.
Really lastly! We now have more moisture creating appliances - gas cookers, clothes driers and washing machines and dishwashers. Any of these that do not vent to the outside overload the design features in older houses. Addition of extractor fans or external venting tubes are required to modernise the moisture removal requirements to prevent mould.

P.S. No studies have yet been done as to how to replace the 'through the back wall ventilation' once external heat insulation cladding has been applied over all the external walls or once spray foam has been added inside the roof tiles.
Ideally all the hot air that reaches the top of houses should be expelled via heat exchangers which also bring warmed fresh air from outside!
And Window A/C units are famous for Mold on the blower wheel. I have seen these window units actually spitting out black little gobs.

I've had multiple exposures to mold and lived in a completely infested house in the country for almost 3 years during covid. I thought I just had long covid, but no, I had mycotoxicity.

Dr William Rea (Dallas) was an expert who wrote , helped educate and heal in the 90's. There has to be better laws/regulations. I've been to hell and back with mold issues. Lord help us all.
All you have to do is move to a dry climate semi desert will sort out all your issues I suffered terribly with similar symptoms and moved to a dryer area also invest in a brick house with cavity walls is a healthier solution - I found it strange to live in wooden houses or dry wall houses this is a great breading place for molds.

I lived in a 100 year old mold house!!! Until I could move 3 years ago to one with scorpions and Diamondback Rattlesnakes!!! The house was built from cement block, brick veneer and stucco in 1968, and is on 3 acres, with a 5500sqft. house with sub-basement. But,,, No Mold!!! It was killing me!!! Then I tried UV lights!!! I put 12, 8 foot bulbs in my attic. I left them on all the time. It helped with the cieling but, there was still mold under the house. So, from now on it will be a big thing to check for, before moving in. As for the snakes and scorpions they stay away from my dogs and the house. I live next to a 49,000 acre National Wildlife Refuge and no fly zone, so the wildlife comes with the acrage.
A few years ago we had mold in our house It was impossible to find an affordable doctor to take me seriously & do any form of affordable testing.

You may have coverage on a 3 year old home. However when the hvac in FL was installed wrong it needed another outlet. The floors were hollow and the hvac leaked and my whole living area was covered with water. The ins. Co. Was told by the judge to claim bankruptcy and the builders well the big law firm I pay has not sought to fix. I my husband and dog are always sick. What do we do?????
It sounds like the builders are to fault? They should have liability insurance?
Write to the insurance commisioner about your homeowners insurance if covered but insurance not covering it. (check your policy) There's a deductible on most.

After suspecting I had mold in my house I started doing research on the topic just to find that there were no industry standards for remediation leaving the door open for pretty much anyone to do anything. This is such a problem why there are no standards for this industry. I am so suspicious of All the various claims out there that I have not taken action believing that I was being taken advantage of.
I'm an allergy sufferer, mostly hayfever. I seem to get really sick from time to time, I get a cough with sticky phlegm that can last for months on end. My house in on a concrete slab with no drainage so ground water tends to make the carpets damp. This also happened to me when i used to live in a small shack with a leaky roof.
A few years back i rented a garage from a friend for storage, this garage was dug into the ground under his house, some parts of the walls were furry with what could have been a type of mould. There were times of the year that i had to go in there just for 10 or 20 mins when i would start coughing within a few minutes, the cough was a tickly dry cough, very irritating but once i left the building the cough would cease.
I have an ozone generator but i don't use it because the smell from using it lingers for many weeks and it tends to melt certain plastic or rubber items, i don't really want all my things to become brittle or broken from the ozone.
for now i try to keep a little ventilation (i would open everything up but it's also the hayfever season!) i also use dehumidifiers if it gets too humid.

Mould in the bathroom/shower room, best to open the window for a few hours, even in the winter. I usuallly shut the door, open the window and leave the bathroom like that overnight or all day if I've showered at night. Don't have to worry about mould and our bathroom/shower room is on the cold side of the house, but that's my method to make sure i don't get mould in our bathroom (Sorry USA'an but to us down under, the bathroom is where our shower and bath is. I'm wondering if you could get a whole house ionizer (ozone generator) and remove any pets, and let it run for a day or even 2 days - 3 days. Then let it air out with all the windows open for a day. Would that kill everything on the porous objects? We are talking books, pictures, clothes, carpet etc.
We did! I run my ozonator in the basement for half hour. I had mildew and musty smell disappeared. I also do smudging. I burn oregano leaves and white sage. Mildew/molds hates it.

Good idea, fan. My mother leaves screen windows open, get a cross breeze going to air her place out on a nice low humidity day. We run a humidifier in the basement and notice how full it gets when we do laundry. Mold doesn't like dry or sunlight, it can't thrive. Vinegar or hydrogen peroxide kills mold. Wear an N95 mask, eye protection, don't spray it directly it could spread. Immediately bag and throw out papertowels and take out to trash.

@@mudslinger888 I got mold exposure in AZ in 3 different apartments, was dying in my bed, all could be prevented, negligence and failure to stop the water leak lead to mold grow, that took me and my son seeing sick in one month after the leak.
...it should be illegal to sell or rent a building that has not been checked for mold and had it remediated if present...storms, economic related housing issues, old pipes that leak, when these places get pawned off on the next person, whoever gets it either flips it, rents it, or lives there and can have disastrous effects on the health of any and all occupants and the problem is RAMPANT throughout the United States....

I've already been told by one of two apartment managers that if I file legal paperwork to effect repair of plumbing leaks from the apartment upstairs that I will receive immediate 20 day eviction notice. The bathroom upstairs has been leaking for two years. I physically had the manager in here more than half dozen times and he watched the water pouring from the ceiling, running down the walls in both my bathroom and my bedroom which shares a common wall. It's been leaking so badly for so long that my bedroom ceiling in the lowest spot has completely disintegrated and hangs down in tatters. He had his maintenance crew in numerous times and everybody and their brother took pictures. At 65, I think they're playing the long game. I'll be dead and no one will be the wiser.

We had to move 5 months ago from a mold infested house. It made me very sick. I'm still dealing with it. Fortunately I have a good practitioners that know how to rid the body of it naturally.

another reason for the most part, interior basement drainage systems are scams, they do not stop water penetration through basement walls or obviously above basement walls (exterior tuckpointing, caulking , waterproofing needs)
Amen. Good mention. We remortared cement blocks from the outside and stopped the leak of water that ran in basement as you mentioned. The gutter needed cleaned out as it wasn't draining correctly, the slope of dirt was going toward ths house than away from house. What we couldn't repoint on outside, we repointed on the inside. Usually, they say to run strong vinegar through to clean it on a regular basis (I do once a week). It helps remove mineral deposit, too.

One video I watched said they tested for mold outside and inside to compare. It's natural and can always float in from air and outside. Key is moisture, humidity, condensation, ect.
I'm allergic to some molds in nature, which means that I get itchy eyes and throat at certain times of the year - after the pollen season. I have some hay fever too, but I found it strange that often the most severe symptoms would appear after summer. Typically these natural molds inhabit forests, so if you have no forests nearby, then this is not the cause of whatever allergy symptoms you may have. Usually a good cover of snow and drier cold air keep symptoms away.
Not sure why we here in the north fear something so much that we know so little about. If you've ever traveled throughout the world, in the tropics, mold is everywhere, inside and out. In SE Asia, which i'm most familiar with, hundreds of millions of people live in moldy homes and never think twice about it. Even in upscale hotels you can find mold issues if you look. In a humid environment it can't be avoided. Yet people thrive. In more developed countries we tend to become paranoid and see demons everywhere. Our health problems are more likely due to our lifestyle & the garbage we eat than molds. I will add however that the ubiquitous dirty air conditioners are a problem. No matter where you go, no one ever seems to clean them and they provide an environment for many classes of bacteria & fungi.

The expert didn’t really address the best cleaner/liquid to use to kill mold, except 8% peroxide to clean grout. Or did I miss it? Anyone can recommend the best natural chemical? Alkaline or acidic? Etc?
What about using a UVC sanitising light, I read it renders the mould’s dna inactive, I use one in my house plus I spray isopropyl mixed with 700ml alcohol basically rubbing alcohol 99% mixed with 100 drops of wormwood essential oil and it keeps the black mold at bay as bleach gets on my chest as I have asthma and respiratory problems
