- Lets take a look at a chainsaw that really smokes a lot. There are only a few reasons why this can happen and I'll show you how to fix one of the most common mistakes a saw owner can make. #smallenginerepair
Looks like you got out the vac/pressure tester to check the fuel line & carb, then put the new fuel filter on and said the hell with it! Lol
Oh you noticed that. I noticed it for the first time after making the video. Usually what happens is I get interrupted and forget where I left off. What appears as a transition in the video could have been 20 minutes away from the bench. There is a break in the video but I'm not sure if thats what happened. Oh well, stuff happens!
I’ve caught myself putting bar oil in the gas an dumped it out. I just picked up a 353 no primer bulb model i don’t like the E model much Thanks for the great vids!
Thanks for watching!
You good to watch and lean from regard Garry from Australia
Thanks for watching!
One man shop banter! Outstanding!
LOL
I'd love to see this guy stack dishes... 😂
My dishes or your dishes? 🙂
We got a smoker! Good stuff as always!
Thanks!
I have an 18 year old 353 e-tech and it is just a great tool for feeding my house stove & boiler. 18" bar does all I need for felling and sectioning my own woods. Have a Stihl MS250C that is the robin to my Husqvarna 353e-tech batman. ;-)
Keep up with your maintenance and it should last you another 18 years!
Great video Scott. I enjoyed watching the big a$$ toolbox video, but its nice to be back at your bench.
The channel started out with the tool box videos so I'll work a few in every so often. Thanks for tuning in!
Nice I’ve Seen This Several Times a Year Mostly Homeowner Units 😀😊😎 Lateeeer 👍🏼
I enjoy watching your videos. Do you think 87 octane non ethanol mixed with oil is ok to run in 2 cycle?
Wow
Hey, Scott! I’ve got a Stihl MS 193C in the shop. Customer complaint smoking, so first thing I did is search your channel for clues and this video was the first result. This saw has the fuel and oil tanks one above the other so getting fluids in the wrong tanks was already my first thought. Started right up, idled, throttled up and ran at high speed perfectly but did smoke a bit on starting. Customer states he ran two tanks of 50:1 premix and it smoked the entire time so my initial suspicion was scoring. Will pull plug and exhaust and have a good look. Didn’t think about gasket you mentioned between tanks, but I think this is a single piece tank. I’ll pull the IPL to confirm once I’ve put it to the wood for at least 10 minutes to confirm complaint.
Anything else?
A good place to start would be to run your own known good fuel/oil mix. If the smoke cleans up then you've found the problem. Check the air filter and also confirm the choke is fully open when running and that the carb isn't adjusted super rich. Look at the spark arrestor screen. If its not clean then you may have a clue as to his operating habits(low speed operation) or fuel/oil quality.
Great vids!
Thanks for watching!
You prob see several cases of that. I’ve seen you clean carbs with gas. I worry about it having a check valve so I don’t use anything too strong. What products do you use I’ve even tired wd40. Thanks and take care
I figure the parts in a carb are designed to be exposed to gas so it shouldn't be to harsh. Simple Green seems to make the carb bodies dull gray so I don't use that anymore.
@@TheGreasyShopRag I use the purple simple green as a soaking medium. Never had anything discolored. I will try it in my ultrasonic cleaner with heat.
@@steveriggenbach90 Ya let me know. I clean many of the parts that I list on ebay with a 5 gallon ultrasonic cleaner and am always looking for alternatives. Right now I like the parts washer fluid sold at harbor freight. Mostly because its cheap but it does a pretty good job on grease.
I can see if the tanks were right next to each other, but that far apart🤔
Who knows? Stuff happens I guess. Thanks for watching!
Orange poolan
Seeing how Husqvarna is the parent company of Poulan, I'd say "green husky" might be more accurate when comparing the two.

I could see that being an easy mistake. The idea of a flaming chainsaw is kinda frightening. There's an idea for you on Halloween. Stand on your porch on Halloween night wearing coveralls, a hockey mask and a flaming chainsaw while you hand out candy!
I like it!
you should have changed the petrol in it, you are a serious mechanic, pff kookler👍👎🤮
I don't get it. I clearly changed the petrol. Whats a kookler?
