- Lets look at a Husqvarna 394XP chainsaw that had a hole in the fuel line but was mis-diagnosed and got a carb rebuild. I'll show you the results of setting your metering lever at the wrong height. #smallenginerepair

Thanks for not being too harsh on the customer, we all like to fix our junk and we don't always succeed
I realize that customers that can't fix their equipment are the ones that put food on my table. Thanks for watching!
I respect the quality snd professionalism of the work you do. Excellent content and narration. Keep the vids rolling
Thanks Jeff
I like your style of doing repairs.
Thanks for watching!
Whenever a customer told me they rebuilt something, that was usually it. It's amazing the difference the height of the metering lever makes. That measuring gauge is pretty cool
Yes this was a good opportunity to show what a difference it can make.
@1:58 I like how carefully you put in the fuel with the safe fuel jug green button but then it sprays across the shop floor lol.
Gotta love those safety cans.
You're one of the best. You get right to it and you take fundamental steps towards the repairs. Great video
Thanks. I suppose i get right to it because I'm on the clock doing actual customer repairs...not just filming to make a you tube video.
Ran a ported Hi Top 25 years ago, makes me feel old! Merry Christmas to the Master Rag and his Family.
Merry Christmas!
I thought for sure you forgot to hook the diaphragm in the carburetor. Nice catch on the height adjustment. I learned something today.
I must admit that thought crossed my mind as well.
Good catch. Not very many know about the tip protection. He needs to learn a few more basic things for sure. Seat might have needed cleaned too. Everything we all went through. Great video, take care.
Thanks. Ya I just gave the seat a small blast of air but should have talked about that a bit. Thanks for watching!
Yes sir I said um have to check that level hope its good! Well done!
I wish I would have been able to show what low metering lever height acts like but that hard to do from a work bench. Thanks for watching!
Great vid Scott. I’d love to grab a 394 or 372 to rebuild but lately even scored ones fetch 500 bucks!
Ya the deals can be hard to find.
Bless Excellent video. You like your Snap-on tools. Thanks 🙏
The snapon tools have served me well.
Great work buddy.
Thanks for watching!
Welcome
Great fix, mate 👍🏼, very well spotted.
Thanks for watching!
Very informative.

The Needle Adjustment On The Lever With The Brass W Gauge 😀 Customer Repaired Equipment Diagnostics Should Be a Specialty It’s Like a Jigsaw Puzzle So Many Variables Too Consider You Almost Have to Put Yourself in a Novice Persons Shoes and Play Detective to Sleuth Out The Problem They Created and Then What The Original Issue Was At The Same Time 😳
Thats so true. What bothers me is that if you notice in the video I even pushed on that lever the first time through the carb. I just totally overlooked that it was wrong. The good news is that if I would have caught it the first time then this would have just been another boring carb rebuild video.
@@TheGreasyShopRag I’ve Done The Same Myself You Get In a Routine and Sometimes Glance By Something You Would Normally Catch Right Away Great Job on The Repair And Catches of The Customer Induced Issues Along The Way 😀
At work break watching your video again. Curious about your choice of pump diaghram. You used the thinner white one. Its always gave me better response. Any personal preferences?
I never use the rubber ones if given a choice. They don't hold up well to ethanol. The blue and black acetate ones are a durable choice for low volume pumping because they are stiff. The white ones are also very durable but are more flexible and probably push more fuel.
@@TheGreasyShopRag thank you, been trying different ones. That answer helps.
I noted that the OEM fuel line was of a coiled version (bong bong bong inside the gas tank to get every drop of fuel). In a pinch, can one install a straight fuel line with the proper diameter?
Yes just install it so the filter lays on the floor of the tank.
It didn’t get past me, just learning how to work on them
Thanks for watching!
Do you have a link to the bucket that you dumped the gas into? I would love to have one
Google "radiator fill funnel". I see they offer clear ones now.
Hi Scott, how do you know which carburetors require the metering lever flush with the carb and which require the stepped down gauge?
Google "zama carb gauge" or "walbro carb gauge". There are rare exceptions but for the most part these are accurate.
What happened to your electronic screwdriver you used to use very often?
I have over 200 repairs that have been recorded and are waiting to be edited. This must be an older repair. I am currently posting two videos a week so even if my employment ended today the channel would live on for a while!
Hi there . I have been watching your channel for sometime now from robot mowers toolboxes but mostly chainsaw stuff . I have a saw with an issue I can't seem to solve and any ideas would be appreciated. Husqvarna 560xp or 562xp same thing really. It will start on choke revv then die it will not idle. You can do this any number of times but it will only ever start on choke not high idle even if its the 10th time in doing this in a matter of minutes you can keep it going for a minute or so by revving but it eventually dies . I put a carb kit into it new diaphragm pump etc still the exact same no better or worse . I put a brand new plug in still the same . As far as I am led to believe I can't fit a new auto tune module or carb as they need to be paired to the ignition and piston through the software and I am not a dealer . I removed the muffler to have a look at the piston and it looks not to bad I certainly don't think it's a scoring issue . If it was an older saw I would be thinking impulse or fueling issue but from what I can see this gets impulse through the intake boot and the fuel lines look good . Any ideas or have you came across similar issues . As I said any info would be appreciated thanks
I wouldn't base a fuel lines condition on looks alone. Pressure testing the line would be the first thing I would do.
You're correct that a new replacement carb has to be programmed by a dealer. A used carb does not IF the coil is the same part number. That also means you can replace the ignition coil with an exact same part number coil without updating the carb.
Welcome
