The Greasy Shop Rag
США
Добавлен 2 май 2012
My name is Scott and I work at a small engine repair shop as a mechanic. I specialize in 2 cycle and handheld outdoor power equipment. The videos you'll see here are actual customer repairs on that type of equipment. After the repair I'll do a voice-over to explain what is happening and help you to perform the same repair yourself. You'll also find helpful tips and shop practices that you may find useful in your own workshop. And of course as a mechanic I'll have to add some tool related videos as well.
Later.

Husqvarna 254XP Leaks Fuel. Fixed!
My blower cuts off and and I check the battery and there is still quite a bit of battery left so I try again. The blower will start back up and blow for a while. It’s been doing it randomly so I’m afraid it’s going to eventually just stop working. Do you think that’s the wiring harness?
It sounds like possibly a switch but really it could be any of the electrical components...even the battery despite it still having capacity.
Great job on narrating, getting cold up there. Thanks for the videos. Central Florida
Thanks for watching!
On a side note the greenish hose on your mityvac is that fuel line or something else? Looks really flexible compared to the stock one I have.
Ya I wore the stock one out. This is just Oregon brand fuel hose.
@ do you remember the size of it?
@@air2bmc I think the barb on the tool is 5/16 so I probably forced 1/4" hose on it.
@ Thanks!
Scott, that thing is filthy, lol….. you’re a better man than I am! I would have left it, 😂
Ya they always come in filthy.
The life of a concrete saw is only slightly more miserable than that of the operator. Laaaaater
Thats a good point. Never looked at it that way.
Ben there done that
I'm glad I don't have to work on these that often. They're a huge mess. You, the bench, your tools and the floor need a good cleaning before you move on to the next project.
You're right because the few times I didn't clean up afterwards the next project got messed up.
When i went down to my Husky dealer the other day there was one just like that sitting there in line for him to work on! I said looks like fun he said not really!!
He knows. Later.
Crazy that this video popped up for me. I just finished a job with a Stihl TS700 (very similar machines) that also needed a carb rebuild. Husky's are alien to me as a Stihl tech but it's interesting to see how two different manufacturers do things. Big fan of the Greasy Shop Rag here! Thank you for all you do. You and many others have taught me how to be a small engine mechanic , and I really appreciate it.
Thanks, I appreciate you tuning in!
Years ago I was on a crew as a carpenter and we did alot of alterations and remodeling in a major research university in Detroit. We had like ten of these saws, a laborer had the job of keeping them full of fuel, changing filters, cleaning them etc.. the same for mixers, demolition hammers etc. It was damn near a full time job. He brought them in for repairs when needed also. Can’t remember a time when one didn’t start 👍
If you keep up with maintenance they are very robust. Sadly, most are run until they won't.
The concrete saws lead a horrible life. Dust everywhere. Poor maintenance, abusive usage.
Agreed.
Where do you get your funnels from Scott???
Search for a radiator fill funnel.
Wwoooowww! That was way beyond Schmutz degree 🤣 Surprised that inner working tunnel is tight and doesn't leak any dust 🤷
Ya they work in a pretty rough environment. Its surprising they hold up as well as they do.
What tough life those saws lead,
Yes and its even worse when they don't take care of them.
Oooooh Your in My Favorite Territory The Concrete/Rail Saws 😀😇😀😊 Scott 👍🏼
I'll happily ship them to you for repair. I'm not a fan.
@ Anytime Scott I’ll Be Happy Too 😀
Who makes your inspection light and where do you buy your carb rebuild kits?
www.streamlight.com/products/detail/stylus-reach-18 The kits are stocked in the store by variuous distributors. I'm not sure who they use.
got the exact same one...was sitting for year in my inlaws shed. all fuel lines are toast. you think lowes, home depot or trackor supply has the fuel lines? or do you have an amazon link?
@fishin360 Sorry I have no link. We stock multiple sizes of line here and I don't know which one was used in the video.
Detailed, informative, humorous. Nice edutainment. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Mine didn't come with a muffler gasket...
Mine starts runs great eventually stalls after returning to idle this just started ....
Scott, excellent videos. The RPL gauge is great, wish I could mount one on all my two strokes. Also smultz is a very descriptive word, when dealing with chainsaws.
Thank you for this video, I heard knocking and felt what I thought was play in my blower and rushed out to buy a new one to keep things going. After I had some time I did some digging and your video popped up. Low and behold I had a very similar issue, the metal spacers in the impeller had come completely out of place causing a large amount of play. $40 later old faithful is back in business. Thank you thank you thank you
Good job with the repair!
Good, honest work, great job scott! Love the vids, laaaaaater!
Thanks for watching!
Can you recommend a good all around compression tester? Also, just ordered your carb stand. Thanks
@gb3450 Echo offers one that's 14mm and has a 10mm adapter. Part #91147. They're about a hundred bucks. Husqvarna offers individual 10 or 14mm gauges and each of those is also about a hundred bucks.
@ thanks again!!
It's funny, i just did the same thing for the first time about a week before watching you do it in this video. I use a piece of aluminum flashing, now I'm going to cut one in an "L" shape. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for watching!
The 435 is a great knock around homeowner saw!
Ya, It seems pretty popular around here.
Campeon 😊
Like to see you do a review on chain locker
I'll have to see if we have any left in the showroom.
Hi, can you do a video on changing the throttle cable and trigger on hc 45 hedge cutter there isn't one anywhere on you tube much appreciated over the pond in the UK really enjoy your vids keep it up very informative
@AlbertericHarrison If one finds it's way to my bench I'll be sure to capture that. Thanks for watching!
@TheGreasyShopRag thanks for the swift reply
Thanks...I have a 570 with this problem...Also , y'all , I have had to change out the fuel filter 5 times now...change the fuel filter before taking it to the repair shop , if it acts up...filter is inside the gas tank.
Thanks
I'm in need, Scott just said it's not supposed to be hard but flexible...🫣🤣 I'm really excited in the right way for schmutz and new other flying sentence what was great cos we all know he's doing these videos during work and those thick fingers are working hard for us to see this amazing mechanic at his work 💪🤟🇺🇲 don't know when he's about to Film where he relaxes or whatever but heil to man who helps Thousand men to fix machine's and is smooth in tone that one can fall asleep like meditation way. Thanks for this video again. I really love all of your comments it helps us understand or not❤️
I wonder does cheap engine has cheap part's compared to "major" brands or has all gone down in quality and they just are so picky devices that user has to use always new not even week old gas and etc. ? Good education video for dummies that run old gas like what comes out of my rear🤷
Even the major brands have cheaper models made cheaply to target that segment of the market. Their pro grade stuff isn't "cheap".
Looks barely used. Are carburetor issues the most common problems with two stroke equipment? Then what, clogged screen on exhaust? Next chain oiler not working? Maybe cracked fuel lines? Small fairly simple engines with relatively few parts but still can be difficult to diagnose the problem rather than throw parts at it. It's not always the first thing you expect it to be in the automotive side of the business but I've learned through your vids that it can be the same on your end of the business. You have a sort of checklist in your mind you go threw and diagnose the problem using that process and your experience. You know what you're doing, are fair and honest with the customer. They're luck to have you, Scott
Yes you should be employee of the month!😂. I think your method of narrating over the top down footage you are allowed to take is great.
Thanks!
I have the same set of trimmer hs45. Ever since day one it has always made me feel like it bogs on power I have full throttle but it always seems to like it’s bogging down. I only use stihl motomix in my equipment takes all the guess work out of my issues. Thanks for the video
Hey Scott, what do you think about the pre-mixed fuels? I know they’re expensive but for a guy who might not use their saw for 2 months at a time, is the premixed stuff better? Thx, Paul from Michigan
We promote the use of premixed fuels for just those types of situations. the extra cost of the fuel is way less than a repair bill.
I think you do a good job of filming while working. I have learnt a lot from your videos.
I'm glad to hear it. Thanks for watching!
Great video... all except that quiet headless guy!! He's a jerk to you!!!
LOL!
Hi! What vacuum tester do you recommend?
Mity Vac MV8500 is the one you see in my videos.
@ thanks a ton! Appreciate your work and advice!
What brand is the screwdriver you use on the carburetors?
Its no longer available. believe me, I've tried finding a spare.
@TheGreasyShopRag Dang. Thanks for the response.
Scott maybe send it to tinmans saws would be a good saw for him to fix just an idea
The customer took the saw for parts.
Good afternoon, Scott! It’s lunch time! You deserve it! Great video, again! 😊
I had quice and gatorade, now I'm back to work. Thanks for taking the time!
Hiya Scott, I hope you're keeping well. Can you please tell me the tube size you're using on your Mityvac pump. Thanks in advance, Steve
Its either 3/16" or 1/4". I'll try to remember to check that and get back to you.
I pretty much repair all my own 2-stroke stuff including chainsaws. I'm not in your league Scott. You do this for a living and can run circles around me. Neighbors often bring their stuff over when it runs like crap or they can't get it started. Funny, I don't care what they say is wrong with it the first thing I always check is the gas like you do. I can't convince anyone that gas is the #1 cause of malfunction. I watch your stuff not so much as to how to repair something but more in what your thought processes are and how you go thru the diagnostic steps on any given repair. Very useful, particularly in the format you use. Nice job once again, Scott!
Thanks, I appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
Great video of the day I will be buying some things from ur channel nice work
Thanks for supporting the channel!
Oh nooooooo........... not another carb rebuild! Just kidding, we always enjoy your vids! 👍
Scott, I have a 450 Rancher eII with what I think is a worn crankshaft where the Clutch drum and needle bearing rest. He had the chain sooo tight I believe it roller burnished the crank diameter by about 0.005" Is there a spec for the crank diameter on the clutch side, e.g. 0.5000" +0/-.001" ?? The drum wobbles around like mad! Thanks
Thank you Scott! We all appreciate you teaching us! Have a great day!
Thanks for taking the time to tune in!
I just so happen to own a 455 Rancher. Bought it from Lowe’s 15 or 20 years ago. I’ve used it hard but sparingly. Never had the carb off and dang thing just never has let me down. Not my favorite saw to run, but cuts well with good chisel chain that is “sharp”! If there was a Husky dealer with a service dept like yours nearby, I would treat it to a tune up. Laaaaaaaaater.
They seem to be a pretty robust saw. Thanks for watching!
Nice to see effective work in progress 🙂
