    Torque, torque, torque. Better than speed. I like mine just as it is.

  • @TXRed1836
    @TXRed1836 3 года назад +67

    The coil isn't limiting you in the cut. It is not necessary to spend money in this area. It is not necessary to change the carb either. The problem is in the semi-fixed jetting. Replace the nozzle assembly with part # 86-578-1. $4 part will allow you to actually lean this saw out. Gut the muffler. Delete the gasket and you'll end up with around .024-25 squish. Widen the exhaust port, raise slightly, and polish it up. You'll have a much stronger running saw than is shown here for $4.00 and a couple hours time.

    New to the channel and love it. I recently purchased a 590 and after breaking it in felling some small trees and helping a friend out with some good sized firewood (he for some reason thought a small cheap ass electric Kobalt from Lowes was enough) I'm very happy with the saw. Seriously considering a new carb/coil and maybe a muffler mod just because.
    Keep pumping out the great videos.

    This is Great! My 590 is two years old, but I've only recently been using it heavily. Suddenly, it's seems to be running better, and starting easier. I guess it finally broke in. For $300 dollars I paid for a new saw on Ebay. I couldn't be happier. It has good vibration cushioning, and I'm literally ripping beams out of white pine to use as a bridge, and cutting sugar maple for firewood. And I used to use sthil 440 for work. So easy to work on, but I haven't had to do anything to it.

    • @bennyblanko3
      @bennyblanko3 3 года назад +2

      Yeah, they take a longer time to break in, but start leaning out nice once they do - and pick up a lot of chain speed, but still keep the torque. He keeps talking muffler mod, but as I recall mine was an open can, and didn't need much of opening up, and was super easy to do. No welding or splitting required. I'd say just running that saw for a year, it would pick up a lot. I can't wait to see it ported though!!! Bet it will run awesome!

    This will definitely make a interesting build. Was curious as to what the bore and stroke is so I looked the specs up. The bore I figured was on the small side at 45mm the stroke on the other hand is a bit longer then I expected it to be at 37.2mm this thing should sing in the wood after raising the exhaust roof, intake port, and transfers. If a guy can even get his port tool in at it lol. Definitely looking forward to the porting videos on this saw.

    I have had a few of these saws and will say they are so easy to work on. Also they have a bypass jet that will not let you lean them. You can order another non bypass jet and push it out , then push in another jet then lean it out. I used to have the part number for the carb part but you might find it out there.

    10% gain for bolt-on parts is pretty amazing actually. The muffler may be holding it back a bit in this configuration but will be holding it back a bunch once you open up the transfers and raise the exhaust port. That's my guess anyhow. I think you will have a very nice, lightweight farm & ranch saw when you are done.

    I ve had a ported 590. That thing was a beast. Don't know what my buddy exactly did, but the compression was very very high. But I would never buy a 590 again because if the saw get stuck and you pull a little to hard (yeah yea, I know you should not do this but it reality, you try to give it a gentle pull), the rubber airintake thing gets a rip. This is why the 620 have a limiter strap their. So if you do it - do it with it 620SX. Or just cut firewood from a staple where the saw cant get stuck. I'm sure I have a video from my ported 590 with a 620SX coil and the 620 carburetor on the 590. It make a different that you will feel.
    I ve to say that I live in Germany. So the 590 and 620 are not so fare away from pricing.

      @@kenskip1 We are actually looking at the tach readings, so the resistance is there and should give us a true measurement. Why? Because he's doing the same test with the same wood, i.e. resistance remains constant. I agree a harder piece of wood would be better but looking at his landscape, I'd say he's in the northern midwest, canada line, and that terrain only has a few decent hardwoods. No maple, just it's cousin, box elder. Green ash would be the hardest wood in that area except siberian/chinese invasive elm. (How do I know,well I was a Ranger for 27 years).
