"I've got a coat hangar...it's super nice."
That my friends, is the way to live life. Appreciate the small things.
Well said.
Man... I get so complaining about the bliss and splendor I have, at times.
What's up with that?
I have a coat hanger.
Thank you.
Actually... I am happy I have a coat hanger. I just forgot.
Thank you.
😁
That's not appreciation. It's a speech impediment.
Gotta be my life motto now.
@@age_of_reason what do you know about appreciation, reason boy?
I enjoy watching these Van conversions a million times more than the “Van Lifers” with a brand new Sprinter with 40k worth of upgrades.
The most original VW van conversion I’ve ever seen. Great job !
Agreed man. I have a 90s school bus piece of shit that I turned into a skoolie. Really from scrap to something rustic and livable. It’s nice. These can lifers much of the time call them self nomads. They live in luxury. Annoying. And tiny home shows showing NOT TINY HOMES. tiny is 100 square feet and under. Not 500. There’s condos all over that are less than 500. Lol
Thomas Beach like the “tiny” houses on a triple axle😂
I hate those videos that are too over the top 😒
Swan Auto47 Hahahaha. Brotha you nailed it with that comment👌. Triple axle. Granite counter tops. Mini split air conditioner. Oh and built for 150,000 American dollars which takes away from minimalism. Part of minimalism is using old pallets and junk yards and repurposed materials which I’ve used absolute garbage to make beautiful things. This is not tiny living. Also having a company make it? Minimalism is also not 150,000 dollars or more for a tiny home lol. Paying someone when you can do it yourself to save. That’s minimalism. Also to end off this rant I’m adding you can lifers who have 80 grand sprinter vans new from and dealership then build with a company also for a total of 160,000 grand or more. That ain’t minimalism. Oh Il add that for example I could add a luxury shower payed for by s builder. I’m using repurposed stuff and making a decent one where I’m going to heat water and use s cheap pump to shower. Just a little side tank I fill time to time. Home made as well. Shower all repurposed materials from metal to plastic to wood that in seal with sealant glue gun and then 10! coats of heavy duty oil based based varnish. That’s minimalism. Damn it annoys me. So to people out there doing the work and making it the real way in respect of those who can only do it the cheap way for them and their families, big respect to you. If you read this and need help text me 647 972 1988. Im Tom and am experienced with conversions. Many better than me but I can help. And also get others I know to help. Just ask. Much love.
She called you back in 5 minutes, canceled the other buyer, and sold you the van at whatever you could pay. I love that so much! Living your best life, man!
I love it. Super rustic.🙂🙂
Right. Sounds like a Volkswagen person.
This is the universe providing abundance
And she also said she needed some good karma. I loved this simple build. Love his philosophy that he states at end around 14:40. Loving, caring man. Beautiful dog too.
Made me tear up!!! Humanity can be loving and giving!
This is what happened to shaggy and scooby and they kinda re-did the mystery machine so they could live in it
😂😂😂😂
LOL
Haha classic 🤣
I feel like I'm supposed to be impressed but this just looks like hardcore poverty! 😒 Ok, the cup holder is dope! 😆
How do you warm a girl up before breaking the news about living in a creepy truck?
"Sometimes the coolest way, is the jank way" more true words have never been spoken.
Dean Rosenberg I was looking for someone to have commented with this quote. Great words!
Dean Rosenberg Truly a very cool quote due to the truth behind it.
#BuddhasBus
Yeah...that goes along with "Brute strength & ignorance have solved more problems than..."
janky is good now
I love how he admitted to lasoing his dog, because realistically we'd all try it once
i was laughing hysterically
Yeah at first I was like... Wha??? Then I was real with myself and thought "yeah I'd try to lasso my dog too" lol
I'm so proud of you. You're 21 and doing what all if us retired people want to do. 😊
Isn't he just, it's beautiful and he has a great dog, Cedar for company, who wants more?
These are the kind of builds that speak to me...those high end sprinter vans are nice but they have zero character. This vanbin tells a story. Great video
agree they are nice but there is just so much character and personality to the older van or vehicle and builds like this
I couldn't agree more, the rustic look gives it so much meaning/purpose.
Yeah I would much rather have the sprinter van.
Yea but this kind of build would make boondocking very difficult. Total cop and tow magnet
Love a good build that has lots of character!
This guide is a good resource of videos, pictures and drawing. It does not have plans, so if that's what you're looking for don't bother with this book. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxLum--iPp9YKZ09j1BMdHaBMLkrGfIbcm What this book does have is a lot of great information on the building of sheds, design ideas, building options, etc. The author goes through the steps to build a foundation, framing, roof, even ideas on internal storage and external finishes. The text is easy to follow and understand. There are many sidebars that give tips and advice which most laymen probably wouldn't have considered. The photographs are great quality too. This is a great book and I'd recommend it highly for anyone needing or interested in building a shed.
Damn, the story of the person you got the van from who made sure you got it for what you had, got me right in the feels. The van I have was given to me by a 96 year old woman who of course had to get approval from her family. She gave it to me after learning that I lost everything in a fire a couple weeks prior. The van sat for nearly 30 years. She wanted me to have it, especially knowing that i had just bought an RV so that I would eventually be able to travel around with it and explore this country. Thanks to her and her family, I am the proud owner of a 1979 Dodge and am in the process of doing a full restoration while living in it. She has since passed away. God bless her soul.
That is a great attitude considering the turn of events. The image of the 96 year old lady gets “me right in the feels.” I love it when the ‘world’ works the way it was meant to.
I had a similar experience like Frye, when buying a motorcycle a couple decades ago. Virtually no money, quit my job to ‘go west’, spent too much on a 500cc bike, decided to resell sell it when I realized there was a slightly newer 650cc version of the same bike... So I ended up finding a mint 650 that had really low mileage but the bike had a little problem with it... the front brakes locked up and wouldn’t release (which he just had rebuilt to fix the problem). So over the phone I told him the issue (I tested it while it was at the mechanics shop) and my situation, he says look my wife wants it gone and I want help you out, give me 600 and it’s yours. I was thinking I’d offer him like 1500... And the brake issue just needed a pin to clean out the tiny air intake hole in the brake fluid reservoir (30 seconds).
Stayed out west for a year, learned cabinet making with local cabinet shop, sold the bike for 1900 and paid off my credit card then drove a woman’s car back across the country, gas paid, right to exactly where I started.
There were many things like this during that period. It was one situation after another where things worked out in a beautiful way... it just seemed normal... between finding food, lodging, work, travel, comfort, etc... always in an interesting way.
God bless.
@@BillWalters-kx8sw Wow!! Was it really your van? If so, that guy kept his promess: he really used it to fill up his dream!!! If not, tks anyway for your kindness. Peace.
Praise the Lord! We are suppose to help one another. This makes God very happy to see. You have been greatly blessed.
“I’ve got a paperclip, piece of string, and a potato chip...”
Yep. The gang’s all here.
Sponge bob would be proud
Eat the chip. Save the string & paper clip for future needs bc you know they’ll come in handy.
That great woman who sold sue to him so he could adventure typifies the van life community in real life. What a legend.
"I left Indiana two hours after I graduated high school"
legend
Straight up legend not only did he leave but drove all the way from Indiana to the freaking Tetons
That's what I did in 1995. Straight to SE AK, still here. Lived in a van too. Time goes by so fast......
I also hardly smoked weed very much......lol
I think you did an awesome job. And it is so true, just do it if you have a dream. Off grid in Oklahoma Mt. Momma..just because I did it! Dream on
"left 2 hours after graduating"
Boom! you are on my heroes list.
Martin Nielsen lol
I wholeheartedly agree with this! and your open heart honesty, eating the squirrel and lassoing your dog, and just janking it. you are an incredible person, thank you for sharing!
So inspiring
Damn I took off from Houston to ATL a week after and always thought that was quick lol
Went to Marine Bootcamp right after graduation then graduated from there too lol
I'm jealous. I wish I had the courage the live my life how I want, not be a slave to the system, to be a free sole. You have an amazing life style.
@INDIGO STARSEED TAROT sorry for your loss. I am searching for a Van having lost someone very special to me to Blood Cancer so agree with you as I made a promise to them. Scary as you say, but we you have to just do it. I don't believe in letting life pass me by with what if's. You either do or complain and stay stagnant. So agree with your encouragement and focus. Good Luck. Hope the Van stuff your end goes well.🙏🏿
Helps if you are 21.
Sounds a bit fishy to me
@@andyokus5735 no at 21 you have everyone telling you what you need to be doing. This is the opposite and it's working. I'm 30 and struggling with the social pressures of "needing" things. Hardest part too me seems like the loneliness. Moments are so much better shared
@@happydays9613 did you get a van after all?
He is so positive and appreciate every little thing he has in his van. You made my day thank you.
I saw you going in and out of the coffee shop a couple days ago in Central OR! Did a double take at your rig outside! Very cool to get a tour :)
Hey it's Elsa!! Yaaaay!!
Yeah! That’s rad! Probably spoken?
Elsa Rhae that’s so cool!
We chill
And of Elsa and Baron
Give you this compliment.....🥰
I'm proud of you. Thank you for setting a great example for all generations. The lady that sold you the van at a reasonable price for the good karma... Kudos to her.
This is like the adult version of a treehouse and I'm into it.
"I went to the woods to live deliberately, to live deep, to suck out the marrow of life. To put out all that was not life; and not, when I come to die, discover that I had not lived."- paraphrased (because it's from memory, and that's the way I remember it, so please, scholars, don't come after me☺), Henry David Thoreau, Walden
Frye is the embodiment of one of my favorite story passages of all time; congratulations to you my friend for learning this so early in life...and to Cedar too...he is the perfect companion. Also, to the sweet lady that sold you this van, I hope you get tons of good karma...that was so cool what you did!
Stay safe, enjoy all this land has to offer. I low key wish I was there.
could you elaborate more on the Frye story?
I love how happy he is. Just him and his dog, in the wild, on their own. It’s very peaceful.
I'm a stock investor. I live in a home I paid 1.2M for, that's gated. Just me and my GSD. I envy this guy and his lifestyle. I'd trade my life for his life. I randomly stumbled upon this video and I've been needing a drastic change. I firmly believe that this is it. Love the video, the van and your character and personality. Thank you for the realization that you inspired me to see.
Living the dash......deal I'll give u a van for ur house even trade😂?
You wouldn’t make it out there. You would need people to do everything for you. A complete drag is what you would be. Mainly staying in hotel rooms and spending a few hours on some trails that you take pictures of with your professional camera . Your comment was bull shit to begin with. No one believes what you do. Have a terrible day.

Have a great day buttercup. 😘 ♥
@@jarrettpelkey380 😂 love the sense of humor!
Loving The Dash.....Go take a look at scooter tramp scotty on youtube. Been living off his Harley for like 20 years. Closed his business, sold his house and hit the road. Never looked back. Works a little when he needs to, and does what ever he wants the rest of the time. FREEDOM.
The fact that the lady gave it to you for whatever you could - is just. My heart. Ouch. 😩
I love her.
This guy. Love how much he appreciates what he has. The necklace his grandpa made him, how cool.
"I really don't smoke weed...............very much. *chuckle*"
Sounds like he has life figured out.
Dead Eye lmfao exactly what I was thinking
living in a van down by the river
Yeah. He has life figured out at 21. I did too. Until I grew up and actually got kicked in the ass a few times. And I thank god for all those years of a job I hated that gave me a pension and the money I put away while living frugally that will supplement my pension. Because life will happen and you will get sick, have accidents, need money and what nobody tells you is you don’t have a happy healthy life until you’re 80 when you wake up sick but comfortably taken care of on the money you didn’t save. Nope aging starts in your late 30’s and early 40’s and goes downhill from there. And you still have another 40 plus years to live like that.
@@xopi2521 Damn, you are a buzzkill
@@xopi2521 so you survived, but did you live?
that's really awesome the seller let him have the van for what he could afford. I hope that lady gets a ton of good karma and blessings. nice build bro
If you have peace of mind and aren't stuggling with depression or messed up from things you feel bad about from the past then you can go a long way in life just on enthusiasm. When I was his age, 21 I was living with my Mum, lacked confidence, immature and struggling with issues. Good on him. Great guy and great van!
Take a shot of cowboy coffee every time he says “what-not”..
Thank you all so much! Jackson did an amazing job shooting this and was awesome to be around. I appreciate all the love and support from you guys!
❤️
love your van dude! so much personality. Do you only cook with the wood burner? must get a bit toasty cooking with it in summer
Joel Woolston hey man! I appreciate it! I actually have a decent cast iron single burner in the van now! Definitely a huge upgrade!
Adopt me please! I can cook and do laundry! 😂
Trey Frye, I was really impressed at how neat your van is kept. So many people who live in their vans have so much plain ol' junk that you can't see the real van for all the noise of the stuff. Good Job!!!! You didn't say how you keep yourself, what you do for a living or if you are living off a trust fund. What a great inspiration to all who see this video. Good Luck in your travels and your life.
“sometimes the coolest way is the jank way” lol. 😂
this has to be my favorite video I've seen of someone doing van life, he is so wholesome and his van has so much character! I especially love the woodstove :D
What a Carraca
@@larrymccoy5394 What's a Carraca? Do you mean character?
Or is there something called a carraca?
This is a great video! I LOVE how there isn't a host asking a thousand questions while filming themselves interrupting the subject!
That’s a kick ass van you were smart hitting the trail right out of school before you got corrupted and thrown into the rat race I salute you!
This is a wise young man! There's this saying (and I'm paraphrasing here) that goes something like: _"A good traveler cares not so much about the final destination, but rather enjoys every step of the journey itself"_
Good travels to you, Frye.
so in short ..
_it's about the journey_
Looks like you have a very cozy and comfortable little van man. I like that he did real well made me want to go rogue
I LOVE how this dude "LOVES" and genuinely appreciates everything he's done and with life in general. . . way cool!
The less you have,
The more you have.
This guy is alive while he's living..🌻
Most people these days just exist .
Franaflyby beautiful 💓
i just exist...
@Leansifer c but i thought the squiggs looked hot
And the best (non van saying) is.....“You live more for 5 minutes going fast on a bike than other people do in all of their life.

He's living my dream. The Traveling artist of today, a modern cowboy...
Can you imagine most people having office jobs, day jobs, working day and night to pay bills and live miserable lives. He literally found and shows us how to be happy!
What's in the fridge?" Elk, film, and some milk." I could hang with this guy.....
"... and that sort of thing." Ha, as if those are of a sort!
I find this so cosy compared to the glamorous conversions, more than does the job . Fab way of life you got there young man 😎
Right on.
Where is the place for the dog? It's so cramped. There is barely any place to move around
"Everything works out in the end." Sure wish I had known/believed that at 21, love your outlook!
I live how he is thankful and everything for him is SUPER.
Seeing builds like this makes me completely reconsider a stealth van. This thing is absolutely beautiful
The woodstove in the van is awesome. I admire what you’re doing, pure freedom. Much respect
I grew up in Appalachia. This build speaks to me. I LOVE your floor. I loved the barns we had on our property. So much character.
I’m in a short Skoolie and need to purge. I put way too much stuff in here. I miss the days of the build when it was simpler and less cluttered. You realize how little you need when you open yourself up to that possibility. Even with my medical issues, I don’t need a lot. Warm blankets and a good dog will fix a lot of problems.
So awesome, keep living the dream man, nobody is getting off this rock alive and you only go around once. Livin your best life, rock on.
"You have to put it all on the line, to catch a big fish" the stuck with me. Happy camping sir :)
I noticed the "want less"sticker, great philosophy! It's acttually hard to want less. We all want more, and it's never enough.!
I want way less.
Love this guys attitude! "Gotta put it all on the line to catch the big fish." Wish I did this right after high school! I suppose the next best time is tomorrow.
I swear I saw this guy in Glacier Mt. It was only briefly but there’s no mistaking that van.
The less you have, the more you have is so true. We got rid of everything, quit our jobs, renovated a 21 year old motorhome and hit the road. We resell on ebay while on the road to finance everything. Changed our lives!
One of the best videos and stories I've seen on van life. What seems like chaos is actually well thought out and truly without any stress or ulterior motive... love it!
Jeremy IKR, I luv it!
What other motive would one have to go live in a van?
You're amazing. I wish I was that brave at 18. Oh, the possibilities...
After five years of watching van videos yours is still my favorite! Watching you again by choice. Love the cabin feel so rustic and cozy looking. My flavor.

Not everyone built for this lifestyle! I have huge respect for bro 🙏💪🏼💪🏼
Such a humble soul .He always says " we " , obviously he adores his dog . Bests buddies in a mission .❤❤❤❤❤
I love this...so much more my end of style than the plasticy rigs I always see videos of. This man has priorities that I can appreciate.
Great conversion. Reminds me of a mountain man's cabin. Safe journey.
Very cool van, totally personalized. Love all those little touches that scream who you are: a sweet carefree spirit! More power to you! God bless! 👍🏼
Awesome van, this country boy has a contentment anfd wisdom beyond his years. love it!
Just loved this video and admire this young mans independent spirit and way of doing things. Why would anybody thumbs down this ?
Honestly, im thinking how could he survive in this world with his small van, old lifestyle, with his happy go lucky attitude, in this modern world? I know many would think like that... But, deep inside me, i want to live like him, nothing to worry about what is in or should i become like busy man on earth? I mean, I want to live like him, his free- spirited and independent is what I want to have for all my life while having a family, and raising kids.. Just always happy and nothing to worry about...

"Everything works out in the end." I wish this were true for all of us. Some people are lucky and some are just unlucky.
You make your own luck. How you keep yourself inside makes all the difference. Everything happens inside before anything happens outside, in regards to yourself. So if you're experiencing what you're calling "unluckiness", simply look at you're keeping yourself internally. The way out is in. If you can understand this, you too can be free.
Time to change your attitude!
“Gotta put it all out on the line and just catch a big fish.” Love that and how true it is.
I really liked his set up, it’s warm, comfortable, and has most of ones needs.
I especially liked his squirrel hide and his clay shells sitting on his table. Couldn’t help but wonder where his shotgun was though. And you’re right, none of my damn business! 😊
Really though, he has a sweet van; suits him perfectly. We need more people like him in our world, self-sufficient, self-aware, ready to take problems head on, not afraid to explore what’s outside the small world we’ve created around us. Doesn’t hurt he’s living the good life either. Elk in his freezer, yum! 😋
Wishing you all the best and stay smiling
I would love to run into this guy while traveling. Endless stories, tips, tricks, and positive vibrations
Thank you for reminded me why I started living in my van! This guy and his van are so genuine
I like how you have the fridge as a center console.

the more i see these van life videos, the more i want to build one and embark on my own journey. Sounds fantastic to just be able to retreat into the woods and enjoy the peace and quiet.
the rock climbing sticker mystery though. i like how he just left it there lol.
This is my favourite van conversion it looks incredible inside and out, with such a homely look and feel to the space!
Functional design, reclaimed materials, solar energy, sustainably positive living that we could all do with considering the pressures of society and life. Nature and humans best friend what a perfect life ❤️ from Australia

I'm living in my 87 Westfalia camper van. But mine is a pop top, so I'm really jealous of the high top 👍👍👍 he nailed it when he said one of the funnest things about this lifestyle is improvising! I love it!
Great set up.. I like the stovepipe. I can relate to your attitude and philosophy. Know the feeling,. "Indiana wants me. Lord I can't go back there". I also struck out on the road from Indiana and headed west when I was 17 yo, and fell into a bohemian lifestyle of art and poetry and haven't looked back since. Safe journey..

Most interesting recipe I ever saw but still haven’t tried yet was for Cornbread Muffins and Squirrel Gravy..... not sure but think I read it in the Backwoodsman Magazine that Charlie puts out.... it was a great story, the author said his whole life that is what his grandma had for breakfast each morning. She had a muzzle loader that she used and made her own black powder and only took shots where the ball would land in the tree and she would dig it out to recast the lead into a new ball later.... great story, great writing....
most delicious meat in the woods is squirrel
I wanted to hear all about how he made the top for the van and fitted it on!
The story about how he got his van made me so emotional! I need to really search my soul to figure out why haha.
Wow you can tell that van belongs in the woods! What a legend- land cruiser to vanagon that's brave. I've never seen a vanagon with that much character! Awesome build!
Now that’s what I call a rustic, cabin on wheels.Your an inspiration. Happy travels.

Such wisdom from such a young person - he knows himself and lives freely, not hung up by petty things in life that don't matter. everything in that van has a function or some kind of sentimental value. I'm in my early 30s and I'm so inspired by him!
