  • The Lightour R5.8 winter sleep mat offers a good value way to get into comfortable winter camping. I have tested it in the snowy mountains on some winter camps to see if it is any good.

      @TheWalkingKev and did the know that the famous Bushman and Blue youtuber uses it and he does ice cold winter sleep outs, he slept on that mat in blizzards etc. It's amazing how comfy it is, more so than thicker mats I've tried.

    I bought the longer one a year ago and found it was short by a similar amount as yours. I contacted Camperlists and they were very defensive. They said it had to be inflated using the bag, not a flextail tiny pump! If inflated until rock hard, which Camperlists said it had to be in order to allow the insulation to work as designed, it did just about reach the published length. Not very comfortable like that though 🙄 Very interesting that they've changed their listing now. Nonetheless, It is still a very good mat at a very reasonable price.

    • @TheWalkingKev
      @TheWalkingKev  3 месяца назад +2

      If you actually try to inflate using the bag until it is rock hard... The bag detaches every single time and pulls the plug, deflating it instantly! I used the mat again last night and did this 3 or 4 times trying to get it solid but not that extra push that pops the plug out! Still, I was warm and comfy in the end...

    • @tim1289r
      @tim1289r 3 месяца назад +1

      @@TheWalkingKev that was exactly what I was finding. I compromise now, I use the tiny pump and haven't felt it has compromised the effect of the insulation.

      @@tim1289r glad it's not just me then! I used the bag only last night. Was fine in the end, I just need to not try that extra bit of inflation!

    I brought one of these while my thermarest neoair xtherm was in for repair the back end of last year, still haven’t used it yet!
    Bought it as a spare winter pad, just in case I spring a leak again on the thermarest again.
    I hear this is a good pad in it’s own right though, which you also have confirmed here.. 👍🏻

      I've been really impressed. I was cold on a couple of camps last winter and this year every camp I was lovely and warm without needing additional thermal layers. Could just relax and enjoy it. Was pleased with paying less than £70 for it as well.

    As someone that tosses and turns in my sleep, how silent is the mat? Is it like a crisps bag? It seems so listening to the video.

      I've not found it loud in use. That's a good question though. I've not noticed that with it. I'm someone who moves around a lot and it hasn't been an issue with me.

    Guessing it's the air pockets between the raised bumps keeping you warm as the air can warm up as opposed to flat mats right up against the whole sleeping bag holding any cold coming up from the ground right next to all of it.
    Does that make sense, I know what I mean but can't express it properly!!😂

    • @TheWalkingKev
      @TheWalkingKev  3 месяца назад +1

      It's got some kind of system inside it to keep lots of little airpockets and reflect heat back up. All I really know is that it's warm and has made my winter camps a pleasure this year!

    How is £70 a budget mat?

    • @TheWalkingKev
      @TheWalkingKev  3 месяца назад +4

      Because it's a winter mat with a high R rating. Budget is all about context, for a winter rated mat it is at the budget end.
